+ 2 moreWe found SmartHouse almost by accident while looking for solutions to what turned out to be botched previous AC installation by a much bigger and more established company who we had trusted to do a decent job. Instead we ended up with a system that wouldn't cool the house. Smarthouse first correctly diagnosed the problem, then fixed it, and advised us on how best to heat and cool our 100+ old house. We now have a service contract with them for regular maintenance and they recently installed a mini-split for us. Their techs are great. Just the sort of people we would feel comfortable leaving alone in the house to finish a job if necessary.

Easy to schedule appointment for bid, energy auditor arrived on time and was very professional/courteous, bid amount was reasonable, work was done within one week of accepting bid, and the crew did a good job of ensuring the insulation was at the correct depth throughout the entire attic. At my request, they took several pictures to verify their work and I was completely satisfied. Would definitely recommend this company.

+ 0 moreObviously we have taken this information back to the company that originally installed our insulation, with mixed results so far. Throughout this process, though, SmartHouse has been extremely professional. They have now done three different inspections, and we ended up having them complete the insulation work because the other company did a perfunctory job when they came back to "fix" their own problem. Tim, in particular, has been very pleasant to work with and has taken the time to answer many of my questions by phone and e-mail. Each time they inspected our attics they took multiple photos to document the state of things both before and after their work was done. We selected SmartHouse based on their positive reviews, and after working with them I can understand why they are reviewed so highly. I would not hesitate to hire them again for any future work we might need.
Description of Work: We noticed that one of the three bedrooms on the second floor of our house was significantly colder in winter and hotter in summer than the other two rooms, so we asked SmartHouse to evaluate the situation. One of their inspectors looked at the insulation in the attic space above the bedrooms and also at the attic space above our garage, which abuts the one bedroom's closet. He determined that there were several problems: First, the sealing of the closet space from the garage attic was completely inadequate (he could see the closet's carpet from the garage attic!). Second, the HVAC duct to the one bedroom had been crushed almost completely, so the room wasn't getting adequate air flow. Third, the blown-in insulation throughout the attic was barely half the level we paid for when our house was built only three years ago. Based on this finding, we had SmartHouse inspect the other two attics in our house, and an interesting pattern emerged: in all three attics the blown-in insulation was about half of what it should have been, EXCEPT right around the hatches (where inspectors would obviously look), where the levels were appropriate.

+ 1 moreWe hired Smarthome to insulate our attic. They were not the lowest bid, but their expertise, particularly about the various insulation options, convinced us to go with them. And I am so very glad that we did. Not only did they do everything we expected in terms of insulating our attic, they noticed that the duct work in our air conditioning system had not been properly sealed. We had been wrestling with the unit's inability to cool our house for years, and our regular HVAC provider told us that this was the best the system could do. In fairness, we have an old house and a complex air conditioning set up. Smarthouse both diagnosed the problem and undertook the necessary fixes for a very reasonable price. As a result our house is markedly cooler and our electrical bill has come down a bit. This is a great company. They know what they're doing and they genuinely seem to care.

+ 0 moreThey installed a new programmable thermostat when the furnace was installed. It was difficult for me to program so when they came out for a routine inspection I asked that it be replaced. The serviceman was very patient in showing me how to program the new thermostat and gave me a discount for being a repeat (plan) customer.
Description of Work: First they installed a new furnace, air purifier and humidifier the day after Christmas a few years ago. I signed on to their maintenance program and they come out twice a year to check the furnace and air conditioner. They call me to set up an appointment and are there on time, efficient and professional.

Once he had installed the replacement the system ran perfectly. We were so glad we were able to be serviced the same day that I called in the problem. Hello summer.

Bob did the most thorough cleaning of the outside unit ever. He shared his recommendation on how expensive of a furnace filter is really needed and gave me other tips on HVAC operations. I will definitely use SmartHouse again and request Bob. I plan to enroll in one of their maintenance agreements for easier, continuous care of my HVAC system.

I kept waiting for the areas that had been done to start showing some signs of warmth but that never happened, if anything they kept getting colder and colder which was worse than they were before the work was done. With the below freezing temperatures we have been having it is really unbearable to enter those areas. After complaining about the job done it took Tim awhile to get out to check on the matter . I am too disappointed and mistrusting of the new proposal he has presented to me. All I want is a refund for a job that was poorly done.
Description of Work: I needed some insulation blown under the siding for the entryway and into the walls in the walk-in closet. I was told underneath the entry would also need to be insulated.
