I can not in good conscience recommend this company and would highly state: BUYER BEWARE ! ! ! I began looking for a company that could provide a rebuilt cylinder head for my 2001 Ford F150 truck, as a result of my local mechanic not having luck finding any local shops in Texas having one available. I found Rams Cylinder Head as a result of a GOOGLE search. I contacted Ivan at Rams and he made it sound like this would be doable however he was not sure that he actually had a cylinder head available and that this could take a few days extra to locate. I made arrangements for Ivan to contact my mechanic and discuss the details of finding the correct cylinder head based on a stamped marking on the old head. After some time and repeated calls between myself, Rams, and my mechanic, we finally found the correct number and the rebuilt head was ordered. IT took two weeks for IVAN and my mechanic to finally call each other (after repeated calls from me to both) to get them to discuss what I needed. When the rebuilt head arrived, my mechanic placed it on the engine according to specs and found that the rocker arms would not stay on when the engine was started....and that the engine ran extremely badly. After repeated calls between RAMS and my mechanic, RAMS sent out rocker arm assembly for a 2005 Ford F150 (which were NOT the correct parts). I am still not sure where the miscommunication came from since RAMS knew exactly what head they sent us in the first place. This back and forth activity ended up taking 3 weeks and I finally got frustrated and told my mechanic to remove the bad head and return it and all the parts and to send it back to RAMS (after getting the RMA from RAMS). I ended up buying a new head directly from the local FORD dealer and asking my mechanic to install it. This caused me to have to pay an additional $1200 to my mechanic; the cost to install the rebuilt head from RAMS and then to remove it and send it back to RAMS. I had to pay $1200 to have the original head removed and the new one from FORD installed.) RAMS Cylinder Head received the bad head and after repeated calls, Ivan finally told me that they found that the head was fine and the reason for the rocker arm assembly falling out was because the valves were bent. "Bent Valves are usually caused as a result of installing the head incorrectly on the engine block". I contacted my mechanic and advised them of what RAMS findings were and their response was that there was NO installation problem on their end - they follow the FORD shop manual exactly as shown, including the installation of the NEW head from FORD, which had they had NO issues with. SO, RAMS says it was installed incorrectly. My Mechanic says it was sent to them that way.... a pointing of fingers with neither side admitting guilt. RAMS stated that they will not REFUND any of the costs to install and remove the head that they provided and that If I wanted a refund on the head that they provided, I would have to pay them a $100.00 restocking fee. I asked IVAN to further discuss with the owner and ask that they reconsider a partial payment for the work to remove and return the bad head and to provide a full refund on the bad head provided. Ivan said he would do so and would get back to me soon. As of this writing, more than a month has gone by with NO refund provided and NO notification of any further action on their so called GUARANTEE. Subsequent to waiting more than a month for a response, I sent an email to Ivan at RAMS and received a reply stating that he did indeed contact the owner and they determined that they would NOT guarantee or provide any refund. Even the proposed offer to return to stock with a restocking fee was declined. Ivan stated that the head was shipped out and received by the mechanic over a month ago and that the RAMS office should have contacted me to notify me that this was being done. I responded that this was a pretty poor business practice and that his failure to notify me directly (because I had repeated communications with him) was unacceptable. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB in St. Louis. I can not in good conscience recommend this company and would highly state: BUYER BEWARE ! ! ! Lesson learned on my part is NEVER get between the Mechanic and wherever they get their parts from. It allows each side to point a finger at the other.
