Perpetua Iron, LLC

Metal Fabrication & Restoration, Wrought Iron, Fencing,

About us

Perpetua Iron represents 59 years of experience in metalcraft. We design, build and install decorative wrought iron and architectural components to custom specifications. We also repair and restore existing ironwork. Perpetua Iron has two veteran designers/fabricators on staff and may subcontract work out to one of a few trusted fabricators as our workload demands. We work with customers to develop the design, fabricate the work with an eye to detail, then carefully and sensitively install the work on site. Two of our owners are dedicated home renovators, so we are familiar with the demands that old railing and old homes present. Because of this background, we work well with do-it-yourselfers, rehabbers, renovators and home improvement professionals. We provide free design consultations and are prompt with bids. We know your time is valuable and will never take you or your business for granted. We specialize in custom-built ornamental ironwork, but are also skilled in installing prefabricated components, repairing rusted or damaged railing and gates, and matching existing metal design elements. Perpetua Iron is not a misspelling - we named the company after Perpetua, a woman who was martyred in the 3rd century for refusing to denounce her beliefs. We thought it was about time that this iron maiden had an iron business named after her.

It went beautifully. The work was first rate; they were pleasant to deal with (but also utterly professional). They've been at this a long time and they're good at it, and also nice people. Price was fair (I did call a few other places).
Description of Work: Repair and reset two rusted iron rails along the front outdoor stairs to the house.

Description of Work: From the very start Janet and John impressed. Professional, knowledgeable, quick to understand, honest...and they followed through on every bit of that! I dealt mainly with Janet, and I must tell you that the results were amazing! Our rust-eaten, wobbly, crusty porch railing with such beautiful scrolls was saved...entirely. I can't even SEE the repairs! Janet explained the entire process to me, and it all worked. They even loaned me a mailbox (mine is accessible via the porch and dangerous without the railing) while the railing was down. This was done in conjunction with work done on the concrete part of the porch that took a little longer than planned. No problem! Perpetua was sensitive and responsive to the timetable and our needs. The results are beautiful and were worth every penny...especially knowing that other companies wanted more for a plain replacement. I would and will go back to Perpetua when I need superlative iron work...and you should hire them too!!

Someone drove into our mailbox and totally destroyed our iron ornamental mailbox post. The mailbox itself was still intact. We originally purchased the post and mailbox from Lelu Metalcraft. They went out of business last year. We learned Forshaws bought out the Lelu inventory. Forshaws could not repair or fabricate a new post for us -- they could only offer us a new iron mailbox and post. Luckily, I was fortunate to find Perpetua Iron on Angie's list. The owners are former LeLu employees. Once we made contact with Perpetua Iron, John and Janet sent us a bid within a few hours for fabricating a new post and for installation as we requested. They were gracious, professional and responsive. We are now awaiting approval from the people who destroyed our mailbox.
Description of Work: Provided quote to repair severely damaged iron ornamental post.

R They were great to work with !!!!
Description of Work: Removed our wrought iron railing, sandblasted and re painted it in the shop and re installed it. They cut it off, removed the stubs, put new ends on and set it back in concrete. They did a great job and were fair and honest.

The experience with Perpetua was pleasant and satisfying. I can easily recommend them.
Description of Work: My back porch wrought iron railing had rusted through at the posts. I have MS, so I need sturdy railings. I contacted two companies. I chose Perpetua after speaking with them and getting their bid. The gentleman who did the job was punctual, knowledgable, and quick. I watched him as he worked and he explained what he was doing. The job looks great and I now feel secure on the steps.

I am one of three trustees, that engaged Perpetua Iron to handle these activites. They were very responsive to our conerns and requirements, and greatly assisted in developing the final design of the street horses. Everything went as promised. We'll continue to use them for any of our neighborhood work that requires thier skill sets.
Description of Work: Fabricate custom designed traffic steel pipe horses to assist in slowing down the vehicluar traffic in our private subdivision. Horse were constructed from large metal pipes, welded together to stand independly throughout the neighborhood. The y were painted a bright yellow with a reflective surface that would show up well at night. The horses also had a variety of messages asking drivers to slow down and be mindfull of pedestrians. They also made a recent repair to a large gate that is used to close off the access to the subdivision from a secondary entrance. It required skillfull welding and spray painting to blend with the existing wrought iron gates.

Overall my experience with Perpetua Iron was great! I contacted Perpetua Iron about stair railings that I had that were rusted at the point they mount to the concrete and were no longer stable. One of the owners, Janet, came out to look at the railings while I was gathering bids and arrived promptly and reviewed what options were available for the issue. Once we agreed on what was to be done, they provided an estimate promptly over email as requested. Their bid was competitive and they sounded quite capable to perform the work so I contracted them and placed a deposit. They were flexible and worked with me on scheduling as I was coordinating their work along with necessary repairs to the concrete needed to be performed by another contractor. They arrived promptly to retrieve the railings and then once the concrete work was set, were flexible with our schedule to return to replace the railings. The arrived promptly to re-install and worked efficiently. The work area was cleaned up perfectly. I was quite satisfied by the work and would recommend them to anyone needing wrought iron work.

On 10-28-11 I spoke to John Lieble requesting an estimate to paint the wrought iron fence in the front and back of the house. He arrived within a day on time to assess the fence. He said the best way to restore the fence was for him to remove the fence, take it to Liberty Sandblasting to remove all paint and rust, repaint it then reattach it to our house. I have no doubt that Liberty Sandblasting would have done a beautiful job because they have done similar work for us before. Perpetua Iron's written estimate, which we received quickly, to remove the fencing, transport it to Liberty Sandblasting, and reattach it at our house was $960. John also wanted to paint the fence an antique green for an additional $450., which would have been stunning. Liberty Sandblasting's cost estimate would have been in addtion to the estimate by Perpetua Iron. I rejected the estimate because it was more than I wanted to spend. I asked them what it would cost to paint the fencing in place. Janet Sanders also of Perpetua Iron then visited and told me that a paint job done in place undoubtedly wouldn't last as long as the more expensive option but that she knew how to do an effective job. I accepted her written estimate of $800. on 11-8-11. We agreed that weather probably wouldn't permit a start date until spring. Spring this year was very wet so the earliest dry day was in May. She started sanding and painting 5-17-12, came on time each day, worked all day, painted 5-18-12, and finished 5-21-12. She was extremely pleasant to work with, was prepared with special tools and materials for this job. The fencing looks very nice, far better than when I painted it. It was a relief to pay someone else to paint it as I have painted it several times myself and know how difficult it is to do without any expertise or special tools.
Description of Work: The black wrought iron fencing around our front porch and around a stoop and stairwell in the back of the house was peeling badly. Janet Sanders cleaned and removed loose rust, paint, and dirt, applied a coat of Penetrol, then applied satin black enamel paint. Work began on 5-17-12 and finished on 5-21-12, three full days of work.

One of the owners, Janet was able to come over the same day I called for an estimate. She brought her design books to look through, we discussed my options, I made my selection, and she took the measurements for the handrail. Within two days she emailed me photo samples of what my handrail would look like, along with a bid for the job. The cost was in line with the other estimates I had received for a custom fabricated iron handrail. But the other companies did not offer the huge artistic selection that Perpetua provided and the unique custom touches. I got to select the finish color and choose from an assortment of beautiful hand forged endings for the rail that made my simple handrail a truly unique piece. Janet is an expert craftswoman who was wonderful to work with. My handrail was finished a week early, and Janet had even added a extra bar underneath, since I was wanting a thicker grip. Perpetua provided great customer service and offered wonderful creative options within the same price range as the standard products.
Description of Work: A custom made iron handrail was fabricated and installed along an outside staircase.
