Description of Work: Removed residual roots in yard from previously cut down tree, graded back yard, filled with top soil and laid new sod. John was quick to come by to look at the job and sent his quote within a few days. He was able to do the work within 7-10 days and his price was comparable to another bid I received. John let me know in advance when parts of this work would be completed and everything went as planned. John did a great job and we are confident our yard will look great once the sod takes hold.

Description of Work: Very nice guy, and knows what he's doing. Just be sure you talk THOROUGHLY with him about what you do and don't want. He cut way too much off of our plum tree, and by the time I noticed, it was too late. All the lower branches are gone, taking at least a third of the leaf mass off, along with our shade and privacy in the front of the house. Description of Work: I wanted to eliminate all (except ornamental) grass on my corner, city lot... NO MORE MOWING!. I consulted Angie's List and found John Nekola. First, John arranged for a city employee to come to the proposed site to instruct us regarding things we could and couldn't do in order to be in compliance with city regulations. Then the killing of the grass began, followed by the removal of the remaining thick thatch. He moved a small existing tree to a new location, and removed a heavy iron "corner-protector". Grading of the area was done, and a small retaining wall built. I went with John to select boulders and stones, metal border strips, and pretty white stone for the garden path. Then John and his excellent assistant built a the path (for easy access to all parts of the new garden), constructed a metal border along the path as well as between sidewalks and the neighbor's yard. He built two "carriage walks" to facilitate people emerging from parked cars. John then suggested, procured, and planted a number of interesting woody plants, set the rocks and boulders, and began placing a large number of perennials. Together we selected various small, flowering trees to go in the areas bordering the two streets. Everything was heavily mulched. John is meticulous in his work. He spent a great deal of time consulting with me on all aspects of the job, especially in the selection of particular plants to be included. He has, I believe, an excellent eye for design and a strong working knowledge of hundreds of flowers, shrubs, and trees. The job-site was always left in immaculate condition. When several plants did not survive, John replaced them. The garden is an on-going project. John and I are both keenly interested in utilizing native-Missouri flowers and trees. I almost never visit the garden without passers-by stopping to ask questions and to comment on the transformation of my corner of St. Louis. (John frequently had his "brain picked" while working; many people stopped him to find out just how & what he was up to. He was always gracious but kept on working.) In short, working with John has been nothing but a positive experience! I can heartily recommend him to anyone, even if it would be for traditional yard-scaping. I do believe, however, that John enjoyed creating a very non-traditional, unique space that matched my wishes. And I never have to mow again!!
