McGuire Moving & Storage

They were great. They arrived on time. There were three guys in the truck and they were great. The estimator that came out was professional and he gave me an estimate and set up a time, and they were there on time. I had a couple of other quotes and they came in less than the other two companies. I would recommend them.

At the beginning, everything was great. Josh McGuire was very professional, courteous and prompt. His estimate for my pack and move was within the range I wanted and his responsiveness to questions and scheduling were great. On move day, things started well and the crew of three initially were very friendly and professional. When it came time to finish loading the truck, there were quite a few things in the kitchen that were left untouched and a couple of rooms that hadn't even been looked at. I started to walk through with the crew to point out additional items that were to be moved as well. They grabbed a couple of items to take downstairs and I assumed they were grabbing more boxes to finish their job. Instead, they simply left. No "see you at the house" or "hey does everything look good to go now." Not only did they not finish packing, they left with the freight elevator access key (which I had to give my landlord a $250 deposit to use that day) as well as the passcard key for the apartment, blocking me from using my car! I called the driver and they came back to return the keys (I was locked out until they came back - about 1/2 hour) and they did deduct that time from my bill. Two of the movers were still courteous but one seemed very upset about having to come back...he spent most of the rest of the move stomping around like a petulant child and speaking very curtly and abruptly. Would have been quite comical if it wasn't so sad. At the end they had problems doing math and were trying to overcharge (perhaps innocently) about $75...I had to correct the driver a couple of times over his math. They broke a light fixture in my hallway during the unload at the house and Josh McGuire was almost instantaneous in his offer to replace/reimburse. Overall the move happened basically the way I wanted, save the hassle of dealing with the packing part not being complete, waiting for the truck to come back so I could use my car and return the freight elevator key, being locked out, and not having the packing and loading complete. The one mover's attitude after that was atrocious, but the other 2 guys were great. The price came in at the low end of the estimate, but given all the things I had to deal with that day I can't say I would recommend or use again.

The move went great. They showed up on time, were friendly, and professional. The 4 man crew...Jacob, Alan, Chuck and Zack worked fast and efficient. I was impressed with how they were came in and got right to work, but most of all I was impressed with thier attitudes. They had to wait on the frieght elevator at times at the original location and the elevator at the destination wasn't working at all. But this did not deter them one bit. I will be recommending Macguire to anyone I know that needs a moving company.

This is not something we ever expected to say about a moving company, but they were excellent. We moved my dad from his highrise apartment in St. Louis to a retirement community in Kansas City. We contacted Josh McGuire at the local phone number (if you use the 800 number, they send you through Arpin national, rather than directly to McGuire Moving); he came over and gave an estimate, offering options for various services; he is very low key and reassuring -- no fast talk or attempts to up-sell. Josh prepared a reasonable estimate -- and the final bill came in even lower! We packed ourselves. The three men who arrived the morning of the move were professional, polite, and very careful with everything. They loaded a full apartment in a little over three hours and two of them drove directly to Kansas City; they unloaded in Kansas City the next morning in about the same time, moving quickly but gently and placing everything where we asked. They made sure we were satisfied before leaving. Everyone at McGuire addressed any concerns with patience and went beyond our expectations to meet our requests. Again, the final bill came in under the estimate -- no hidden charges. McGuire made what could have been a very stressful move painless -- almost (dare we say) pleasant.

They did a good job moving my things. The disturbing thing was that one of the guys had an offensive symbol tattooed on his arm. I didn't notice it until the end of the day. I talked to the owner and he apologized and said he would talk to the worker and the worker would hopefully be getting another tattoo in the future. I wouldn't use them again because of the tattoo.

Because of the quick sale of our home, we had to not only move but store almost everything. We chose McGuire from Angie's List for its ratings but also for its storage facility. McGuire's estimator came out to our house and emailed an estimate that turned out in the end to fall almost squarely in the middle of the range proposed. We received a reminder call the day before. The first day four men packed our belongings quickly enough that they could prep some of the furniture for the next day's move. At first there was some confusion about taking down and packing a valuable chandelier, but it was quickly resolved when they sent a specially qualified person to take down the chandelier and build and pack the crate for it. Also, one of the packers found some valuable jewelry we had overlooked and brought it to me. What honesty! The second day, six men moved everything out in about 5 1/2 hours. Four of the men had been there for the packing part, so they were acquainted with everything -- an impressive touch of professionalism, I thought. I was walked through every step and figure on the paperwork, including a detailed inventory since it was all going to storage. Never have I had a better moving day, and we've done this with professional movers about eight times.

My home was being remodeled and I needed to pack and move my furniture and contents of entire house into storage for a period of 6 months and then have everything moved back to the completed house. They did everything for me. They sent a crew to pack everything, inventory it and put it on a truck and store it at their warehouse. Six months later we scheduled a move back into my house from their warehouse and all was pretty much intact. Their were a few minor things that were damaged but they took care of it promptly and we agreed on compensation and it was discounted from my bill.

Josh McGuire came to my home in Wildwood to give me a bid on packing everything and moving me from my 3000 sq ft home to a smaller home in Brentwood. I was impressed with his easy going manner, professionalism and promptness. They packed the house on one day, moved me out the next and moved me in 2 days later. I have absolutely no complaints. They did a great job every step of the way. I had them come back a few months later to move some furniture when I decided to switch rooms. I will hire them again if I ever need a moving service!

The morning of the move, I received a phone call from someone from McGuire telling me that the truck was on its way. The four employees arrived on time and went to work right away. One packed boxes (the charge was $138 for the boxes and packing material) while the others started loading the furniture. When the one who was packing boxes was done, they sent him back and for the rest of the day, we only had to pay for the three movers . After the van arrived at the new location, they went to work. They were done by 4 PM. The only reason I gave a B in professionalism was one of the workers did not keep up to the pace of the other workers. Otherwise, all the employees were very polite, easy to work with, hard working, and willing to help in any way they could. I gave a B in price since I have never used a moving company before and had nothing to compare it to. One recommendation is that if you have more than one floor, bring someone with you so there is a person on each level so you can answer their questions.

Was a wonderful experience. They called me to let me know they were on the way and would meet me at the scheduled time. The whole move went off without a hitch. The movers were great guys who went right to work and didn't slow down until they were done. I would definitely use this company again.

The move went well and I would recommend McGuires to anyone in the Saint Louis area who is looking for a high quality moving company. We had 3 movers, and they showed up right on time. They did a quick assessment of our condo and got right to work. They were very careful with all of the boxes and furniture. They were polite and very professional. Our new home is older and had a tricky 90 degree turn at the top of the stairs into the master bedroom. They were able to get all of our furniture up there without any damage to the staircase or furniture. A piece of our sectional sofa appeared too large for any of the doors, but the guys worked together to find a solution to get it in the house. It was a long day, but they were great to work with! My intial contact with McGuire was via phone. An appointment was set up quickly. Josh McGuire, who handled the estimates and details was knowledgable and personable. He covered every aspect of what they would do and was flexible re: completion date. After the contract was signed, the workers arrived on time and worked efficiently with a great deal of humor thrown in! They were very conscientious. They were careful with the new floors and in fact, assisted me in putting felt pads on all the chairs. I was comfortable with how they moved the furniture both out of and back into the house. I would use McGuire Moving and Storage again with no qualms.

The packers (Eric and Brian) came on-time the day before the move, packed up some fragile items, and prepared the larger furniture for moving the next day. There was concern about our freight elevator, and there was a possibility that some of the heavier items would have to be moved down the stairs. While no one would relish the idea of hauling someone's couch down nine flights of stairs, they were perfectly pleasant about the possibility. The next day (moving day), Eric, Brian, and Dan showed up early and ready to work with whatever conditions met them. Luckily, the elevator cooperated and the move went smoothly. There were no complaints about the three flights of stairs in the new house, and they made sure to get everything just where we wanted it so we wouldn't have to move anything up or down at a later date. They were pleasant to work with and very professional, and I felt that they were taking care with our belongings the entire time. They made sure I was happy with how things were going and how they were handling the move, and I appreciated that. There was one very minor mishap with an extremely heavy piece of furniture, but they repaired it within a few days, and it is as good as new - or maybe better. McGuire and the crew they sent made our move very easy, and we would use them again in a heartbeat.

The McGuire guys (3) were wonderful to work with. The total move took 2 1/2 hours. The guys worked at a steady pace protecting my furniture, loading and unloading my furniture.

Estimator came when promised, gave us a quote, and the company held to the price. Movers arrived on time, behaved well, did a great job of getting us packed and on the road in about two hours. They forgot a piece of their equipment and to move something back in place, but when I called, they came to take care of both items promptly. We did our own packing; they did rapidly and effectively disassemble the one item I knew they would want broken down. Like many movers, they would not take our fake wood computer hutch, but I can't argue with their experience that they don't hold up when loaded in a full truck. Great company overall.

Could not have gone better. Their guys knew exactly what to do, in what order and they got it done in one day (a 10 hour day) when other companies were bidding it out over 2 - 4 days.

Great. We couldn't have been more pleased. Four movers from the company showed up right on time with two trucks. They were pleasant, competent, efficient, and very attentive to our needs. Items were packed with great care.

They are very professional. I think that they are all A's for their service. I would use them again in the future if I needed too.

They were extreamly fast for what they had to accomplish. I had used this company some ten years ago and had great service then. I found out that nothing has change, they are still a very good company for moving around the St Louis area.

They were excellent. They were very careful and very efficient. They did what they said they were going to do.

They did a great job and we were quite pleased with their responsiveness and willingness to accommodate our aggressive schedule. Our job is not complete with them. We will also use their service to move our items into our new home in the fall.

Excellent. The four guys worked their tails off and performed extremely well. I've moved many times (mostly across the country at company expense) and this was one of the best crews I've had.

They were very kind, clean, and very careful with your stuff and so good at what they do. Such a nice man.

The moving out went extremely well. We had a wonderful crew. They were prompt and thorough. The items were stored at their facility for six weeks. Upon delivery of the items they scratched a tabletop, but took it back to have repaired by a repairman they have on staff. Not a problem, except they lost the bolts that were used to attach the tabletop to the base. So, they had to take the base to the hardware store to find bolts that would fit. Not what I expected. Also, they paid very little attention to boxes I had marked "FRAGILE" and proceeded to put heavy boxes on fragile boxes. Again, not what I expected. The clincher was a box marked fragile that had obviously been dropped and then a heavy box was put on top of it. Needless to say half of the contents of this box was destroyed and irreplaceable. I was disappointed with the delivery crew. I would recommend them again, but would recommend watching them closely with your possessions.

Overall, the move went great! Kevin came ahead of time and gave me an estimate (the piano movement was significantly cheaper than companies that only move pianos). The 4-man, 2-truck crew arrived exactly on-time, as promised. They were very helpful and careful (especially with the piano) and worked extremely hard. The piano was my biggest worry but they took great care and it got to where it was suppose to be without any problems or scratches! I had one antique table that was broken in the truck. This was the only problem with the move. It was a very bad break to the table top (something fell on it). The crew told me what happened when they discovered it and said that their shop was very good and would fix it, I'd never know anything happened. I was very skeptical, but they took the table with them and when I got it back I couldn't tell where the break had occurred. In fact, the table looks better than it did BEFORE I moved! It was a bit of an inconvenience, but not significant. I have not discovered another thing that was damaged in this move, which I feel is excellent. This is a great company to work with, I highly recommend.
