McGuire Moving & Storage

McGuire Moving was outstanding. We surveyed all of the top Angie's List moving companies in St. Louis to choose the right one to move very valuable antiques to two locations in different parts of the country. Our major interest was delivering these without a scratch. Well, they certainly did that very, very well. They took incredible care in packing the contents of the house. They have a couple of guys who are large enough to lift almost anything (including some very large and heavy pieces from the house.) Everything arrived on time and in perfect condition. The crew was outstanding and clearly the best part of the move. They took great care to not hurt anything in any of the houses. They were professional and worked hard and long. They even had suggestions on the layout of the furniture delivered into our home that was frankly much better than the ideas we had (our home today uses their suggested layout.) it was a complex move with multiple destinations, so scheduling got a little tricky with them. We were combining one of the shipments with someone else's load destined for a nearby city. We had some last minute adjustments on timings right up to the day before the move, but in the end, everything was packed and delivered on the original schedule. McGuire was not the cheapest bid we got ... in fact, it was the most expensive. We chose them because we needed extraordinary care taken for a complex move. They fully lived up to that expectation, and we are very glad we used them at the price we paid. It was worth it to us. I would certainly use McGuire again and recommend them to all of my friends and family in the St. Louis area.

I called several moving companies to get bids for our move. We have a second home that we sold and needed some furniture and a piano moved about 70 miles to our main home. I spoke to Joanne (name?) first. She was very pleasant and helpful, more so than any other company I contacted. They are listed as movers for pianos as well as for household moves. I really did not want to engage two companies for this move. After talking to Josh, I felt comfortable that they could successfully move my piano. I sent Josh pictures of the home and a list of items by e-mail. He sent me back a bid and some tentative dates. His bid was easier to understand than some of the other companies I contacted...not a lot of extra charges for this and that, etc. I must admit on the day of the move, I was a little nervous as I had made all arrangements over the phone or by e-mail. However, the movers arrived on-time. The men, Chris, Jake, and Tracey (I hope I remember their names correctly) were outstanding. They worked both quickly and carefully. They were pleasant. There was a problem with the equipment for the piano; (I believe the roller was too small. Evidently my piano is not a spinet, but more of an upright.) However, they were still able to move the piano without any problems. As far as I can tell everything arrived in excellent condition. I haven't checked the TV yet, or had the piano tuned. I would definitely use them again.

They are very reputable and pleasant to deal with. They are easy to schedule with. They stand by what they say. They send very good experienced movers to us. They were best moving company we have ever used. We have used their service three other times. They coordinated everything for us. They really try to give you the most economical options to choose from.

Everything went like clockwork - these guys are pros. They were prompt, respectful and very careful. We have some very old antiques that were moved and they were handled better then I could have done myself. Their estimate was dead on and I firmly believe it was worth every penny. They even wound up calling in a third truck just to ensure that the loads were packed right and not overstuffed. I would use them again in a heartbeat and would also note that some very good friends of ours moved last week using McGuire and had a similar experience; everything went great and they too were very pleased.

They were unbelievably good. They were very efficient. The crew couldn't have been more attentive to my needs. I have used movers in the past and they are the top of the moving companies.

The move went very well and all of the items arrived safely and to the right address. Before the items were put on the truck we double checked the number of items to make sure that our records agreed. They notified us when the items were close to arrival to make sure that someone was there at the other end. If I had another move to make from St. Louis, I would use them again. Make sure that you ask for Josh.

We had a very bad experience. We called them and spoke with Josh. He came out to the house and surveyed everything for the move. We told him when we were going to move and we set up the appointment. We talked with Josh again the day before the move to make sure everything was ready. The day of the move, I was waiting for them to show up. It was getting a little late so I called the company and spoke to Catherine and told me that we were not on their schedule. I then spoke with Dan, the owner, and he told me that they will get a crew out by late morning. Afterwards, I contacted Josh, who I set the appointment with, and he told me "that it probably got lost in cyber space". I was very disappointed with the management and the scheduling. I would not recommend them, however, the guys that actually did the move did a wonderful job. They had already done a move that day, but they apologized for the mix up and worked really hard getting my things out of my home.

It went great. We had most of the boxes packed up and some of them moved already. We moved from a 5 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house. 4 movers came on Monday to load the house we were selling and same 4 mover came on Tuesday to unload at the new house. They did a great job, professional and fast. We hope to never move again - but will recommend them to others!

The moving people were very friendly and accommodating from what we could see.

Terry came out to our house and did a thorough walk through providing advice and recommendations for saving money, along with an estimate for the job. On the day of our move, all four guys worked hard, were careful with our stuff, friendly and did a fantastic job in spite of it being one of the snowiest days of the year. Finished in less time than was estimated so we didn't have to spend as much as we thought. Very happy with service.

The company worked with us -- helped us -- used people you were happy to have in your home. They moved quickly and didn't seem to mind wheb we changed our minds about what went where. The estimete was spot on. My furniture had some antiques and there was a little damage that there was no argument in fixing.

Alls well that ends well, but it didn't start so well. I had contracted for 3 men and a truck and when the crew arrived, right on time, and saw what the job entailed, knowing they were going to an elevator buidling they immediately advised that the move would work better with 4 men, but they didn't think a 4th was available. In addition it would be more expensive. However I called the office and within 1 hour, the 4th man was on the job and everything went very well after that. Alan, Tracy and Don were cheerful and pleasant; they also were careful and obviously very experienced. At the destination they followed the colored stickers I had put on the boxes, putting them in the correct places. And with the crew of 4 the job took exactly the estimated time. Without the 4th person it would have taken longer. I would definitely recommend McGuire for their responsiveness and professionalism.

After calling for an estimate, Terry Auck came to our home the following day, he fully explained their procedures and policies and gave us lots of great advice on preparing for our move, this was especially helpful as it was the first time either my wife or I had used a moving service. Terry spent less than an hour at our old house and emailed me an estimate the following day. The estimate was actually provided as a range dependent on the actual number of hours the movers worked and whether we purchased any additional materials. We did, in fact, purchase TV boxes for two large flat panel televisions, without which they would not guarantee their safety. The estimate laid out all of their policies in writing and was also very helpful. On moving day the team arrived and walked through the house with us, laid out their plan of attack and asked our opinions and whether we had any concerns, etc not previously covered. They then got to work and were amazingly efficient. They moved our entire house, storage area and garage in under 8 hours. That included locating everything where we requested and even moving some appliances left unexpectedly at the new location. The guys were not only professional and hard-working but fun to be around for the day as well. The estimate had been for 7-8 hours of work and they completed it in the low end of that range.

Men showed up on time... helped my daughter with several unanticipated problems... didn't break anything... very good experience.

I called McGuire and they were supposed to contact someone. It has been 4 days and no one has called me back.

I worked with Josh from McGuire and I might add I worked him like a rented mule. The amount listed above is the total charge I paid to have my apartment packed and wrapped and stored and then loaded on the truck that finally took it to LA. In the end my parents rented a truck and drove the load to LA. It was a difficult time in the high heat of summer. Josh kept lowering the price as the days passed. In the end it was the spirit of the people, like Josh at McGuire who made the difference. I didn't get what I originally wanted but they never loss their focus. If you should find yourself in a similar situation my parents will be returning to LA in January!

Josh was my first point of contact. He came out and did a very thorough estimate. Our plans for moving changed a lot between the estimate and actual moving date. Josh was very flexible. The first day of the move involved packing. We wanted to pack as much as possible, but given our time restraints, we needed some help. A team of 4 men came out to assist us in packing. The crew was not much help. They were more interested in what they could take from our donate/trash pile than actually packing our stuff. On this day, I was a little concerned with how the rest of the move would go. And, upon unpacking, I don't think the boxes were very efficiently packed. For example, one large box contained a glass bottle (adequately wrapped) and a small space heating fan and tons of extra packing paper. The next day a crew of 4 men (three different from the previous day) came to load the truck. This crew was professional and hard working. There was some issue with packing our items into 1 truck. Josh estimated that we'd have a few extra items that would need to go into a second truck and be delivered at a later date, but we ended up filling a whole second truck. Both trucks were driven the next day up to Detroit. The fourth day of the move consisted of a crew of 3 men and a woman to unload the trucks into storage. They were all very professional and very efficient. The only snafu here was the time coordination. I called the office the day before and asked what time I should meet the trucks at the storage facility. I was told "first thing in the morning". When I asked for clarification on a rough time frame, I was told I would be called back. I never received a call back. Luckily, I was 2 minutes away from the storage facility when the driver called to say they were there.Overall, I would say the move went very well and I was pleased with their service. I would hire them again and recommend to friends and family.

The estimator was punctual and pleasant. He scheduled my moving day, a Saturday, without difficulty. I moved from a three-bedroom house to a five-bedroom house, and McGuire appropriately sent two trucks and four men (which seemed a little excessive to me at first, but it was absolutely the right call). The move itself went basically without a hitch (well, other than the rain...). The movers were polite and professional and I would use them again in a heartbeat. Great service!

I only moved 1 mile, and I am not overall unhappy with them, but I could be happier since the move was so short and brief and they had three guys. When we did get to the house, they damaged a file cabinet that I had, and it could not be opened, and then they brought me like another old file cabinet. They did not replace it with a new file cabinet, but they just got me something from their warehouse that was about the same size and it did have any handles, and then they brought the handles back. The trouble was that there were three guys and at one point, I was involved with one guy trying to force my filing cabinet open, and the other two were in other level of the house bringing something and they were not saying anything to me or whatever, and then later on, I found out that they did knock one of my doors off the hinge. They did not say anything to me about it, and I don’t know if they noticed it. When they put my washing machine in place, it was facing the wrong direction. They did not ask me which direction I wanted it in, and then it was completely on level, and I had to sort of make it level because I thought that is what a moving company does. They did what they could do, but they were frustrated and I could tell they wanted to leave, and then a neighbor had to level it for me. My biggest squabble with them and I did talk to the owner of the place was that I didn't appreciate the10% discount they gave on the coupon. I confirmed with them earlier that the 10% off on the coupon was for the entire move, and it turned out that it was 10% off on labor. I wouldn't use them again just based on that, and I would rather try someone else. I guess the price was worth for a local move because when I move locally, it is all based on time.

They did a lot of preparation. It's a four generation company, so they really paid attention to detail. He made suggestions of what to pack myself to save money, so I didn't have to pay them to do it. He made arrangements to get the truck in here and nothing was damaged.

They were so nice. The men who did the packing and moving were excellent. They were friendly and careful. I was really delighted with their work.

They packed everything extremely carefully. They were very nice and easy to work with. They asked questions if they were not sure. Everything arrived safely and on time. Nothing was broken in the process, and we were happy with their service.

They damaged the wall in the place we were moving from and the place we were moving too. We are still finding pieces that were scratched. They just did a repair on our bed, I was satisfied with that. We could not wait for the wall repair because we were having a walk through. So we did it ourselves. The crew did not wrap things and they went too fast.

I had initially hired another company using the internet and just calling around. I had recently joined Angie's List and just happened to look up the reviews on the moving company I had hired. They had a received a very poor grade and review, along with the others I had gotten quotes from. I immediately started over from scratch and only called the movers that had good grades and reviews on Angie's List. I selected McGuires. They were the only one that came to my home to do a visual inspection to determine an accurate estimate. In the poor reviews I had read on the other movers, the estimates were always wrong. They would low ball it to get the business and you ended up paying much more. All other companies included 2 men for the move - McGuires said they would use 4. This meant the job would have taken twice as long with the other movers and I would have paid double the estimate. The McGuire estimate for the per hour amount was slightly higher than the others, however, the time amount was realistic. In actuality, they finished an hour sooner than the estimate. The movers arrived on time, stayed on task, and were very friendly and professional. I would recommend McGuires to anyone I know that is moving. They even agreed to make an extra stop at my ex-husband's home to pick up a room of furniture and appliances as a part of the move and the time estimate still came in less. When I called to cancel the first movers, they claimed that the poor grade and review was for a different location. I couldn't risk that - and I'm glad I didn't. I was very pleased with McGuire's Moving!
