Description of Work: The work was a complete bath remodel. All existing fixtures were replaced, walls were replaced down to the studs, plumbing repaired, new lighting installed, and new floor and wall tile. The quality of workmanship was excellent. We took advantage of their offer to help us with selection of fixtures, tile, etc. and that made a great difference. There were none of the mismatches that we have come to expect when we do the selections ourselves. The only negative was the long time from my first contact with Las Aguilas until the work commenced. But considering the finished product, it was well worth the wait.

Description of Work: Had a Big Deal for 2 painters for a day. They basically did a good job stripping wallpaper and painting walls, but the next company I had did a lot better. The young men were courteous and considerate but there was a slight language barrier, however they seemed to understand English better than they spoke it. Twice when an employee came to the door they just basically stood there waiting for me to say something, apparently because of the language barrier. It was awkward and I was not going to let them in until they said something to indicate why they were there. They wore nothing to identify who they worked for. I would probably not have them back because I found a company whose work I liked better. I do repeat that they were nice young men and I paid extra to be able to finish the job we started.

Thank you for the review. I am sorry you had a language barrier. My guys are always polite so not sure why they bothered you but I glad that they did a good job in painting for you. I am not sure why the price bothered you and I have seen this before. It is not our pricing, Angie's List comes up with this price and it is considerably cheaper than a normal paint job. But that is more an Angie's List decision. Thank you for having us in your home.

Overall the experience went well. We found we needed a new electric box, and then a new stack but it was within our budget, and Mary and Jose were very informative. It took a very short time to tear down the bathrooms, all the time is spent in building them up to a beautiful finish. Mary helped us pick out tile and bathroom rods, lights, etc. There are some extras not covered in the Big Deal. My advice, discuss as best you can before starting. I could not be happier with the bathrooms. They bring us happiness every day. Mary discussed the color of paint before hand. Jose (the owner of Las Aguilas), Fidel and the crew were cheerful, professional and very nice. Every afternoon before leaving, Jose or Fidel would explain were they were in the process, what was next, and how many more days we were looking at. My husband and I were very flexible, and this was a very good thing.

Everything turned out great. I was very pleased with their services. They stayed on top of everything, worked full days, and showed up on time. Fidel, who did the tile work, was so wonderful to work with. If problems came up, he was calm and fixed them immediately. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

I have nothing but praise for this company. We had a small half bath that was in bad shape, and next to it, a walk-in closet with a window that faced the street. Las Aguilas offered us a better price than the other two companies that I got bids from and did excellent work. They redid plumbing and wiring, installed a closet and a shower with tile walls and a tile floor, and turned the walk-in closet into a laundry room. They did it in good time and kept us informed every step of the way. The glass shower door did not arrive until two weeks after the rest of the work was done and they had been paid in full. Still they came out that weekend and installed it for us, no problems, no hassle.

This deal overwhelmed us and I am afraid we received so many calls from this as well as another Big Deal recommended to run that we could not keep up and I may have thought i got hold of this member not realizing that I had not. We have neveer run a Big Deal again because it is typical for many members to buy it and then want or need the work completed in a short time. I apologize.

After seeing the "Big Deal" on Angie's list for this contractor, I called LAS AGUILAS CONTRACTING on 7/15 and left a VM to see about getting an estimate for our bathroom, which is bigger than 5x8 (which was specified by the Big Deal). I didn't receive a response for two days, so I completed their online estimate request form on 7/17. I still have not received a call or any response to my requests for an estimate.

Jose used quality materials and explained why each was chosen (kind of floor under layment, wallboard, special concrete wallboard behind the shower walls). He cleaned up the area everyday and was careful to protect the rest of the house from dust and floor traffic. When my less-than-perfect planning necessitated changes, he was flexible and gave us options to solve the problems. The only thing we didn't have him do was the installation of the glass shower doors since the manufacturer includes that in their price. The one issue we had was how the stain looked on the new door. When I told Jose I wasn't pleased with the door, he agreed to replace it the next morning and restain it. Since I had stained all the doors in the house, I chose to do it myself rather than take his offer to redo it. Jose and his crew's first language is Spanish but communicating in English was fine. My daughter speaks Spanish and enjoyed conversing with them. We would definitely use him again for a major construction project. Note to future buyers: Be sure you check any products (paint, stain, woodwork) that you have on hand and intend to use well ahead of time. I found my products were too old and not usable right before Jose was ready for them.
Description of Work: Jose and crew demolished our bathroom to the studs and installed everything new except the wallboard on one wall from which they removed wallpaper and prepared the surface to like-new condition prior to painting. We took part of a closet to enlarge the bath and put in a wider door which will accommodate a wheelchair if needed in the future. (I have severe arthritis). He rebuilt the closet space that was left and replaced the closet's double mirrored doors with the one that was to the bathroom. He moved the plumbing in the shower. There was a reasonable charge for these additions above the Angie's list price. We used Onyx in the walk-in shower added, a built-in seat, wall caddy, handicapped bars and hand-held showerhead on a slide-bar with another hook close to the seat. He installed an Onyx counter/sink top, ceramic tile on the floor with a 2 in. glass square at the corners, a 6 in. deep decorative pebble and glass border behind the sink and toilet, 3 cabinets plus a medicine cabinet with attached light bar, a Broan surface mounted forced air heater in the ceiling, and a new toilet. The advertised price was $4999 minus $1200 for fixtures. Our additions (closet, moving plumbing, ceiling heater) cost $2830 so the labor and supplies furnished by the company cost us $6530. We had had a bid 3 years ago for $7000 for labor and no credit for fixtures. We think Angie's List price was a good deal. Of course, our total cost was higher but we chose to purchase high-end products that cost more than the $1200 credit.

They showed up late in the afternoon instead of in the morning like they said. No phone call was made to let us know they were behind. When they did perform the job the drywall work was rushed and of very poor quality. There were voids and ridges throughout the repaired area. I called the owner who apparently is a realtor and is too busy to talk to her non-real estate customers since she kept cutting me off by telling me that she does not have time to listen to my concerns. After several phone calls she finally agreed to come back out and fix the work. The quality was slightly improved the second time around, but still appeared to be done by a novice. Instead of trying for a third time I just fixed it myself.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the water supply lines for the washing machine in our laundry room. The plumbing repair was covered under the home warranty. Part of the repair was to fix the drywall that was opened up to gain access to the pipes. This is the work they did for us.

Having just learned of this report, spoke with my husband who went out made the repair for the home warranty company that paid us to do the job. Jose went out to make the repair to the customer's first floor laundry wall. He met with the member's wife and along with patching the holes made by the plumber he asked her if he could attach the plastic slop sink to the floor as it was wobbly . She said that would be fine. Jose made the initial patch and put a first coat of mud on the wall and left letting her know he would be back. Jose has worked on drywall for about 12 years. He does extensive drywall projects and is not a novice. I remembered speaking to the member about the floor and the screws in the linoleum. I told him that I would talk to Jose about it and get back to him. I did this after talking to Jose. I explained to the member that his wife had okayed screwing it down so that it would not rock and loosen the drainpipe. He may have told me that the mudding did not look complete at that time. I confess that don't remember. I would have let him know right then that Jose would be back to complete a second coat. When installing a new piece of drywall, taping and mudding would need more than one coat to be ready for paint. The home warranty company only allows for us to do a quick patch, NOT a paint ready job. By this, I mean that they don't want to pay for more than one trip for a patch usually. Jose does not like leaving a job with the drywall so far from being smooth so he will drive out and put a second coat on. He DID tell his wife the second time he came out that they may have to do a little sanding. As with the screws in the floor, it would seem that Mrs. and the member had not talked prior to his phoning me. I am unsure why he thinks that I put him off as he spoke with me that evening and I called him back the same night. We try very very hard to give our clients the best possible service as I think you can see if you read our other reviews. I am very sorry that he felt the work was not up to par; however, I did not hear anything from either him or the home warranty company in the entire year since we completed the work. We will not leave it to the home warranty company to explain clearly what they expect from their contractors in the future though. I truly am sorry he did not call and allow me the opportunity to make ammends.

Since we have but one bath/shower, the goal was to keep the tub down time to a minimum. Total days without bathing access was about 7 days. Excellent, considering the amount of major plumbing work that was done and that they removed our original tiled-in tub and re-installed it without damage, then re-tiled everything. Las Aguilas worked with my husband to achieve the classic, old world craftsmanship look in exposed plumbing, custom bending chrome fixture pipes and helping him find the right places to acquire vintage rebuild kits for our 1936 toilets. They consulted us and offered suggestions when minor design alterations needed to be made. We took charge of purchasing major supplies, paint and fixtures, with lists from Las Aguilas. Anything we couldn't haul ourselves, we left at Will Call for Las Aguilas to retrieve. The job went fairly smoothly with only a few minor hitches, as expected on any project this large. When the job was more or less complete, we lived with it for a week noting a few tiny issues that were overlooked, needed adjustment or touch-up. Las Aguilas then came back and promptly took care of all of them.
Description of Work: Las Aguilas took our 1936 vintage bathroom down to the stud walls and joists. They repaired/ replaced old cast iron sewer lines and ran new copper pipes to the fixtures. In doing all this they saved the original tub and toilet, enabling us to keep a true vintage look. They tiled our walls in a running bond subway tile, and the floor in a mosaic type tile. Some walls required plaster, while they updated the ceiling with drywall to minimize future cracking issues. All original woodwork was removed, stripped and refinished. New trim pieces were created for door trim bottoms to accommodate the small change in floor height. They also updated us with a ventilation fan, additional lighting fixtures, a hand towel holder and a glass shelf.

When we first decided to buy our house, we were concerned about peeling lead paint in one of the bedrooms. We discussed the idea of patching up the paint, and discovered that the plaster was actually in need of repair. So we decided to replace the walls entirely. Jose and his crew were able to do the job beautifully, professionally, safely, within our tight time frame, and for an extremely reasonable price. They were a pleasure to work with, and they always cleaned up after their work, which, of course, was very important given the circumstances. When one of our windows needed emergency repair, they were there the next business day to help us out. Again, a wonderful job at a reasonable price. We wouldn't hesitate to call them again for any job we needed to get done, and we rave about them to our friends and family.
Description of Work: Las Aguilas Contracting removed the old (100 year old) plaster in the walls and ceilings and replaced it with drywall in two upstairs bedrooms of our home. He taped and primed everything ready for us to paint.
