J & J Masonry Restoration & Chimney Repair

The service went very well. Their quote was far less than of all the other companies I looked at and the work was not comprised at all. Two to three technicians came out and completed the job in about 2 hours. They had to remove a portion of the steps, patch a few holes and seal them. I was not there while the service was done but she was pleased with what they did. I had no problem scheduling the service.

J&J provided their services on the agreed dates as promised for the contracted fee. No surprises. I would use again.

He bricked up the opening that was created when a motel style A/C/Heating unit was removed. They did a very good job of making the brick look like it was always there.

Absolutely the best owner team, these men were professional and just as important masonry artists. Couldn't ask for a better experience. They showed up when scheduled and worked long hours to complete on time. The flatwork on sidewalk blended beautifully with existing intact work, and the 3 story chimney was restored to its original grandeur and shape. If you need masonry work, get on their work schedule. Price was competitive and they did everything they said they would.

It went fine. There was a little bit of a communication misunderstanding; I was under the understanding they were supposed to call before they came to verify that they were staying with that date because they said the weather may affect the appointment but they did not call before they came.

The owner called promptly after I sent an email and came out the same day to look at the work I needed done. It was a relatively small job and he explained he would probably fit it in between some of his larger jobs. I was absolutely fine with that since there was no urgency to getting the repairs done and I appreciated his communication about timing. The price seemed reasonable so I went ahead and hired J&J. After the initial work was done, the owner called. I explained I didn't think one of the archways had been done well. I could still see the area of brickwork that had been kicked out and was falling out of place slowly. My concern was the repair was not complete and would have to be re-done in a couple of years. He told me his guy had said I needed a carpenter to put some support underneath the archways or my problem would return. The owner came and inspected the work, agreed with my assessment and one of the archways was re-done. I will be hiring a carpenter to do as he suggested and put additional support in place Overall I found him to be prompt, professional and friendly.

Everything went fine. I wasn't there with him but he worked independently and he did a great job.

Hired J&J to grind and replace the mortar on the facade of my brick home in South Saint Louis city. Out of several bids, they were the cheapest by far. Their crew was efficient and did a great job. My only complaint is that they did not properly clean out the mortar that fell into my porch gutters (below where they were working), and the gutters had problems with the weight of the mortar and the heavy snow this winter (2013-2014). It's too late for my case, but if you hire them, make sure they clean up properly.

They were too busy to come out before the weather turned. He did come by on October to look at the job, and he said he would contact us. We didn't hear from him, so we called him at the beginning of April and set an appointment up. He was at our home for the time allotted.

Jim was very prompt in responding to our email and came in as promised to do an estimate. So far has been honest and forthright . Will post update if we accept the bid and proceed.

Arrived when scheduled. Very knowledgeable about the work to be performed. Determined the scope of tuck pointing necessary and explained everything clearly. Returned later as planned to finish the job when outside temperature would allow. Very professional work and results.

Was not overly pleased with them. Had to pay quite a bit of additional cost on top of the big deal.

Provider came to my home to give me an estimate the same day I called. They were able to meet me at a convenient time at my home. After the estimate was given, provider was able to schedule the work within two days of the estimate. I asked for an insurance liability policy. He e-mailed it to me. We talked again about time expectations and he was able to accommodate. The masonry work was completed, but the wall-wash was to done the next day. He came promptly the next day and completed the wall wash. I am happy this provider was able to schedule me in immediately, before the Spring rains began. I am very happy and will use this provider again.

I purchased a fireplace from a company in O'Fallon, Missouri, and the installation was less than perfect. The fireplace itself has some knicks and holes in the cement. The grout job is awful. The grout actually "bled" into the cement and left it looking like it was wet. I saw J&J Masonry on Angie's List and their reviews were very, very good. So, I called Jim to see if he could help me. Jim was extremely polite on the phone and said he would come by to take a look. Two days later he was at my door. He looked at my fireplace and said he could try to fix the holes and dings but it might look worse. The cement is colored and, unfortunately, the two worst holes and blemishes are on "edges" on the front of the fireplace, almost in the center. Jim explained a lot about concrete/cement and how to work with it. He gave us a couple of options that might possibly fix the holes. Regarding the grout, he told us how to clean the fireplace and what products to use. The company who installed the fireplace had not even cleaned it!! Jim was very polite, very courteous, and very knowledgeable. I wanted to pay him for his time but he would not have it. He said he had not done anything. Oh, Jim, you are so wrong. The information you gave us was invaluable. We did what Jim told us to do and the fireplace looks much better!! I have some mortar work that needs to be done on the outside of my home when the weather improves. I will definitely call Jim to do that work. Wonderful experience and great guy to work with. We had the foundation wall pulled straight and the bricks needed a new ledge and to be put back. I had several bids on this project and J&J was the lowest by far. I felt they did an excellent job. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

I boutht a coupon on Angie's LIst for $99 last year and that reduced J&Js $1600 estimate to $1300 total cost (with the coupon), which seemed like a fair price. As we had some trouble deciding on the brick, we let the coupon expire but they still honored it for us. I ended up calling too late int he season to get it done before Winter, but when we got some unseasonably good weather in December, they came out and completed the work in two The work qualtiy was Two more trips were required to acid wash and then seal, but they were anxious to get that done as soon as weather permitted. I think the quality of work was better than what I had expected and it looks really nice. I guess I won't know for 10 years if it lasts better than the builders original work, but I'm fairly confident it was done right and we'll be happy. Sure looks good. Definitely would recommend J&J.

Jim called prior to coming and showed up when expected. He was courteous and expedient in getting the job done. It looks perfect.

The guys were great in every area of the game. They called me back within half a day of my first message and were at the house the next day. They gave me an estimate based on a coupon I'd bought and met that estimate exactly. They were back at the house within 5 days to perform the work. They were there right on time and were done right when they told me they'd be done.

Without question I would highly recommend J&J for any masonry job. From the estimation to the last brick Jim Moore and his crew were complete professionals. He communicated promptly at every step of the job, from the ordering of the bricks, the delivery time to when he could get the job started, he explained exactly what was being done and when. The project need to be started quickly due to an upcoming inspection Jim did what he said and on time. Jim's crew Jim (also) and Tim were organized and very hard workers. This was a team effort they knew what needed to be done and all worked it get it done. J&J price was very competitive and I liked the straight forward communication and felt confident that he would get the job done the way I wanted. I can say now that's it's all done it's his service that sets him apart. I contacted a number of masons from Angie's list for quotes and unfortunately was disappointed. In fact a very highly rated company from the city I would never let on my property ever again, this was a complete shock. Even with all the high comments on Angie's list be careful, don't let a high rating fool you. Remember your the customer and you've got to be comfortable working with them and get multiple bids you'll be surprised the difference in pricing between contractors. Even with a large list of contractors offered make them earn you business and don't be afraid to question pricing if there's a large difference between bidders, the low bidder may have missed something that you'll end up paying for later.

-Jim and his assistant arrived on time and completed all work within the time discussed. All work was completed and cleanup performed in a professional manner. We are very pleased - I recommend Jim!

So, I used the offer to have them seal around the base of the chimney.

They also gave me an excellent price for the job.

J&J took down my chimney about half way then capped it. I asked to keep the bricks and expected them to just pile them up on my patio. But, they stacked the bricks neatly under my deck. The site was left very clean. Some very minor damage was done to the dormer near the chimney. Jim came out, explained how he would fix it, then came back and fixed it. No denials, no arguments--just fixed it. Can't even tell it was damaged. Professional and easy to work with. I would recommend them and will probably use them again for other masonry repair I need.
