J & J Masonry Restoration & Chimney Repair

Fantastic work, fast, professional, and they left the site cleaner than how they found it.. Very flexible - There were some unanticipated challenges on my end with power and water and they worked through it without a single complaint. I think the price was reasonable given the quality of work. I cannot say enough good things.

J&J did a wonderful job!!! J&J had two guys at our house. The house is 100 years old and they were able to restore/replace the brick around our arched window. It was quite a challenge. They spot tuckpointed on that same wall to keep the water from damaging any other areas of the brick. Inside: They also tuckpointed our two walls on either side of fireplace in our living room. Replacing a couple bricks and also acid washed it. Those walls look awesome! We are really happy with J&J's work and their promptness to do the work. They have integrity that you don't normally find when you hire someone! Thanks so much!!!!

Work was completed on time. We do appreciate that the contractor provided fast service. We don't understand how this should cost $1800 (including $300 Angie's List coupon). The work was completed in about four hours by four men, including erection of scaffolding. That works out to over $100/hour each. We were told the materials were about $40.

I received a call just a few days later stating that they would be able to do the work sooner, after all. Over the course of 1.5 days, they performed the work, did a good job of matching mortar coloration, and, to my eye, did the job expected. While they were working, they were able to point out a couple of other maintenance needs for the association (given that they were up on ladders and could see things not easily visible to the eye from ground level). They did an excellent job of clean-up, and did not damage or otherwise negatively impact any items located outdoors near the wall in question. I'm very pleased with the experience, and would not hesitate to engage J & J Masonry Restoration again.

The house is an all-brick ranch built in the 50s. Except for some chimney work, we have not had any general tuckpointing done in the last 35 years and there are no signs of work having been done by the previous owner. We were pleasantly surprised to find that things were in pretty good shape. We went around the house with the owner identifying work to be done and compiled a list. When he and a partner returned to do the work, they patched all of the items on the list (and a few more that were missed the first time around) quickly and efficiently. A week later, he returned for a final cleanup (after the patches had set). Everything was covered for the agreed price and the work was very competently done. After final cleanup, the repairs blended in with the original cement for an excellent appearance. Everyone we dealt with was pleasant and personable; they came when they said they would. I felt they were honest and straightforward with us; explaining what they could (and could not) guarantee. The whole process was as pleasant and (dare I say) enjoyable as anyone could expect for such work. I don't expect to need further work (after all, they did a good job!), but if I do, I'd go with them again in a heartbeat.

He caulked my mailbox free of charged and refunded my money because he couldn't do the project for the original $89.00, which is the cost of the Big Deal. I decided not to do it because I was just going to put some shutters over it anyway. He's a very honest person and I don't think that anyone could have done the job for the Big Deal price of $89.00.

We purchased the special which offered masonry services and were promptly contacted by the company. We set up a time for them to look at the project - tuck pointing of our 50+ year old brick home. We had some spots that were in need of significant work and because of the size of the project the total cost exceeded the price of the special. They were able to schedule their work within a few days and we are pleased with the results. They matched our pinkish mortar and repaired a nasty settlement crack on one side of the house. I would use them again.

Estimator and workmen were all punctual and polite. They did a very good job and seemed to enjoy their work. Men also added some "left over" chimney topping cement to the top of the wall to protect it from reoccurring damage. The asked if I would like this before doing it. Excellent and neat work and clean up.

He came by to look at the post and noticed I had another problem...water was leaking behind the gutter and onto the post. He told me I needed to fix that before he could do his job. Long story short...I needed a new roof, which I had put on. Shortly after that, they came by and we selected a color for the mortar and they came on schedule, removed the old mortar and did an excellent job of tuck pointing the post. Removing the old mortar is a VERY dusty job. He cleaned up all the dust and debris before he left. They did an excellent job, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again if needed.

They were here yesterday, today and they will be back tomorrow. All is well and they are really nice to work with. They are very pleasant. They say what they will be doing and when they will be back. We were having them put up some house numbers I had bought. They accidentally broke one, so they are going down to find the same and they will do that tomorrow. So I am perfectly happy.

Easy to work with ...good company

I was extremely impressed--just a couple hours after having bought the Angie's LIst deal, I received an email from James, asking when might be a convenient time for him to come and view the potential work. I was elated--I didn't have to make a phone call to schedule anyone, and I could get the ball rolling right away. He came out within a few days and we met to look at the work that needed to be done. Not only did he estimate the work for me, but he hung around for another 30 min to wait for my husband to get home to walk him through what they would be doing also. He also made himself available in the evening/dinner hour which was better for our schedule that week rather than insisting upon a 9-5 visit. Even better, he estimated that he would be able to complete the work within the 3 hours purchased. He told us that his team would be out in a week to complete the work. When they weren't there that week (we didn't need to be home since this was exterior work), I emailed him again, and he immediately responded with a date that the work would be completed by. It worked out extremely well, and we would definitely hire them again. I was most impressed by his responsiveness--the customer service was top notch.

J & J was fantastic. I purchased a coupon from Angie's List and they were worth every bit of it. After making contact with them it took them 3 days to come out and give me an estimate. After that it took only 1 week for them to come by and do the work. They were right on time and completed all of the work in the window they gave me. They had to come back later in the day to finish something (after letting something set) and they were right on time for that as well. All the guys I dealt with were very professional and pleasant. I would absolutely recommend them for any tuck pointing/masonry work you may have.

All I have to do is use light detergent on the work and you'd basically never be able to tell there were cracks there. Well done. He also kept me from wasting money on another repair. Honest man

He cleaned up all of the crumbling mortar and replaced 2 bricks on our front wrap about porch. Did a great job. Cleaned the area up. No complaints - would recommend to anyone who needs masonry work.

They have always done a great job! Both Jim and Jim are very professional and nice to deal with. Their work is performed with high quality and on-time. Price was very fair. I will definitely be using them for my future masonry needs.

We found J&J Masonry through an Angies List coupon. After purchasing the coupon James Moore called to schedule a time to look over the job. James explained how he would do the work and what materials he would use. He was very courteous and answered all our questions. James went over the payment that would be due if the job went over the coupon time limit. James and his helper arrived on the morning of April 12. The guys started work right away and worked very efficiently. After the job was finished up to that point they cleaned up the work site very well. James explained to us that the grout would dry out and lighten up and he would be back on Monday to acid wash the grout which would lighten it up more. James came back on Wednesday because of the rain. He finished the job and recaulked the window. James did a very good job for us, and I would definitely use J&J Masonry again.

From start to finish, the crew handled themselves in an extremely professional manner throughout their approximately 3 hour work schedule. I took advantage of one of Angie's List "Big Deals" to hire this company, and to say the least they each proved themselves to be 150% more professional and courteous than I ever expected. If you want quality, from a professional crew, accomplished in a timely manner, at a reasonable price, then this is the company to call. If I ever need masonry work done again, there would be only "2" things that could stop me from calling this company back; (1) the company no longer exists and (2) the return of "The Lord Jesus," in which case I wouldn't care about any masonry repairs, because they use "gold" in heaven. .

Jim was on time, professional and did the work as specified. He even gave me some great tips on how to maintain some items on my own. Will definitely use them again.

The very day I purchased the coupon I was contacted by J&J. We discussed the job and how we would proceed. J&J followed through with the plan in a very timely fashion. The repair was explained to me thoroughly and their follow-thru was efficient and well done! The repairman was professional, polite, and proficient.

Decided to use these guys when I saw an Angie's Big Deal coupon. They were very respsnsive to my initial phone calls to try to get an estimate before I bought the coupon. They came out within a couple days, gave me the estimate, and then did the work within 3-4 days of agreeing to go forward. Good guys - focused on their work.

The work has NOT yet been performed because of me, not because of him. However, I am extraordinarily impressed. I purchased a "Best Deal" from his company, and to my surprise, within a day or so, he (conveniently for me) called to set up the appointment. He arrived very promptly. I showed him what I wanted done, and after a thorough inspection, including him taking pictures of the chimney so I could see (which to my surprise was in serious disrepair), he took me to various points of the house and pointed out issues I never was concerned about, which turns out to be more of a concern than the aesthetic issues I initially wanted fixed. Again, the work is not done yet, but I'm thoroughly impressed with his professionalism, promtpness and thoroughness of the inspection.
