Tony and his crew did a great job on both the plaster work and masonry. It is obvious they take great pride in their work. They also took great care to clean up everything before they left my house. I could not be happier with my experience and will definitely use them again!!
Description of Work: Repaired plaster walls in two rooms (heavily textured plaster work in one of the rooms), and some masonry work outside to stop a leak that was causing some of the plaster to peel away from the wall.

I was referred to Irish Construction Co. by my daughter who saw the name on a truck. We called them for an estimate and they came promptly the next day and set the appointment for a few days later. They were prompt, professional, efficient, cleaned up everything and completed the job with much satisfaction. They did a great job and completed it in one day and we were very pleased. When the job was completed, my husband accidentally wrote the check for about $1000 more. When he realized what he had done, he had called and the money was returned promptly the same day. He was an honest and efficient tradesman and we would highly recommend Irish Construction Co. to anyone.
Description of Work: We had a mold problem on the ceiling. He cut out a square in the ceiling and discovered that the problem was the insulation had been blown all the way to the ceiling and there was no air flow. Due to a problem with the roof we had a leak (which had been previously repaired) however the insulation got wet and was unable to dry completely because of the lack of air flow thus causing mold. He sucked out all the loose insulation, pulled out the wet batting, sprayed a bleach mixture to kill all the mold spores, replaced it with new batting and repaired the holes he had cut. Also, he plastered the ceiling to look like new and we repainted it in a week. Finally, they did some spot tuckpointing on the outside of the house in different areas and we were quite pleased with the job also.

Called on Monday. Was able to send an e-mail with pictures of the chimney. Got a quote over the phone that day and set up a time to repair two days later (day before Thanksgiving). On Wednesday, Tony arrived with a two-man crew on time despite heavy fog. Work started immediately. Originally only one chimney to be repaired. Crew inspected chimney on second floor roof and suggested recapping for an additional $250. Agreed to add that to the job. Work was completed in around 2 hours. As I'm not a mason, it was difficult to grade the work done, but it was obvious that a new cap was added and crack repairs had been made. Additionally, they did NOT appear to damage the existing decorative clay pots on the first chimney (a plus). Signed off on work that day and paid. Two days later discovered that Christmas wreath on first chimney was no longer working. Upon inspection discovered that it was covered with mortar and other oily substance - damaged beyond repair. Let Tony know what happened and asked that he cover half of the replacement cost ($35) for the wreath. Tony was at my house two days later with $50. Happy with the work and the response to an issue. Hope to have many trouble free years with both chimneys now.
Description of Work: Fixed a failed cap on both chimneys. On one chimney added a new cap over one with some minor cracks. On another had to do more extensive repair to the brick two feet below the cap which had cracked. Did not replace brick; ground out and repaired.

Irish Construction plastered parts of 3 rooms that were remodeled with drywall. I was told that we should just use paint with sand in it to get the same look as our plaster ceiling/walls. My wife and I weren't happy with that recommendation, so we looked on the Internet and found Irish Construction and received a bid from Tony. They arrived promptly and started covering our newly re-done hardwood floors with plastic and drop cloths, which we were grateful for. They did the work and we couldn't have been more satisfied. John was able to masterfully create the same type of look that we already have for our walls/ceiling. After the work was done, they cleaned up after themselves and were very thorough. I would definitely recommend Irish Construction for your plaster needs and will have them back when we do the downstairs area.
Description of Work: We had a 2nd floor remodel which removed/added walls that were done with drywall. The rest of our walls/ceilings are plaster. Needless to say we wanted to have the same look throughout the house, so we contacted Irish Construction and they agreed to perform plaster repair and to cover the drywall with plaster to make it look like our current look for the walls/ceiling.

Irish Construction was prompt giving me an estimate (came same day I called), and gave me a price quote at that time. Other firms took several days to just furnish a quote. The day they did the work, they were on time, very careful to protect the surroundings, and were extremely professional and quick doing the job. It turned out better than I expected, in about half the time I expected it to take. The job was first rate. Tony and John, who did the work, were a pleasure to have in my home. Highly recommend Irish Construction.

Great Service and skill. Totally satisfied, and highly recommended to anyone wanting any masonary, concrete, or stucco service.
Description of Work: I was trying to get my concrete/stuuco trim on a corner of my house for over 2 years. I had 6 different contractors look at the project, and then I would never hear from them again. I did get 1 estimate, but after I sent the proposal back, I did not hear anything for over a month, so I called Irish Construction. Tony and John were out the next day, and gave me an estimate that was about 1/2 price compared to the other proposal. We scheduled the work for 1 week later, and they were there prompltly at the time designated. They were very professional, and devoted to making the trim work match the other parts of my house. They cleaned up the mess, and actually returned the next day, to guarantee everything dried properly and I was satisfied. Not only did they do a great job, Tony and John were very nice people who made me feel like they would not be happy unless I was totally satisfied with the project. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

The workmen came punctually as agreed. All the jobs were completed within one day except for some extra cleaning done on the front walk (without disturbing me) the next morning. All work seems very neatly done with attention to detail. I'm particularly pleased with the work on the front walk, which matches the existing mortar well and is very neat. I had had no idea that the lion paws could be restored the way they are, so that is a particular pleasure.
Description of Work: Replaced wall board under roof that had been harmed by water damage. Cleaned out and replastered lath plaster in places where there were deep cracks in several places around the 1930s era house. Cleaned out broken mortar from front stone walk and replaced with fresh mortar to match the old mortar. Sculpted new paws (to replace missing/broke ones damaged due to age) for a concrete lion "guarding" our front door.

Tony returned my initial call immediately, and came out promptly to check out the situation. Tony was very straight forward from the very beginning. I like the fact that he tells it like it is, and did not waste my time. He told me that mudjacking was not a viable option for my porch, but he could patch it and make it look good. I asked about the driveway, and he said that I should wait and make sure I liked the work before I ordered extra work. I liked that as well! He knows his stuff and is happy to prove it. I felt confident from the very beginning that Tony and his crew would do an excellent job. They arrived on time, and worked hard all day. At the end of the day, I liked the work, and paid the bill. The next day, after it dried, I was not happy! Tony called me to see what I thought of the work. I told him my concerns and he assured me that the concrete would cure and the color would settle out and blend. Then, we had tons of rain. Tony kept in email contact with me, assuring me that it would all be ok. Finally, Andy showed up and applied a wash to even it all out, which made all the difference. The next day, they showed up and sealed it. Is it perfect? No. Is it much, much better than when we started? YES! And we saved tons of $$$ in not having to pour new slabs. All in all, I am happy and satisfied with the work that Tony and his crew did for me. I feel that I must say that the very best part of the experience was dealing with Tony Monaghan, an honorable man, a good man, who is a true professional and excellent businessman. He gave me his word that it would all work out, and it did. He knows his craft and he keeps his word. Also, he loves Johnny Cash and was wonderful to my little boy! Can't go wrong there! The men of Irish Construction are true professionals and kind, polite gentlemen. It was a pleasure to have them at my house. I felt like I had made new friends, and felt sad to see them go! Thank you, Tony! Ireland's loss is our gain!
Description of Work: Our concrete front porch was severely cracked and the driveway had some lesser issues. We did not want to replace them, so we sought out a contractor who could repair them. We called Irish Construction due to the many favorable reports on Angie's List. The cracks on the porch and driveway were filled and patched, and a thin layer of concrete was put over the top to make it all even out.

The entire experience with Irish Construction was the best experience that I have ever had with a contractor. Mr. Monahan gave me a bid in one day and as soon as Allstate approved the bid his company was out to perform the work. The crew was very hard-working and polite. They absolutely knew what they were doing. I would hire them again without reservations. I would refer them to anyone!
Description of Work: Tony Monahan and Irish Construction came to my house to fix water damage in my kitchen, my tuck-pointing and rebuilt my outside concrete porch which was crumbling. Mr. Monahan is very punctual, knowledgeable and professional. His crew was very hard-working! They finished the kitchen in one day and completed the outside work in one day. They were very polite, hard-working and professional. I would recommend this company to anyone!

On accepting the bid Tony and his crew arrived to start work within a couple of days. They arrived around 8am and worked until 6pm to get the job done. The group were hard working and ensured they placed tarp around their work site to protect the ground. Where cement or dust did land they made sure that is was cleaned up at the end of the day. Tony called me towards the end of the job to have me check on their work. We walked around the property and the few areas that were not to my satisfaction were quickly remedied. The tuck pointing was color matched perfectly & I was particularly pleased with the repairs to the steps which now look brand new. On leaving the job site Tony told me to call in a few days if I noticed any issues with his work. When I hadn't called his office productively reached out to ensure I was 100% satisfied. All in all working with Irish Construction was a very pleasant experience. Highly Recommended.
Description of Work: I reviewed several bids for tuckpointing work on all 4 walls & repairs to concrete steps on the front and back of my property. I was swayed to use Irish Construction based on the positive Angie's List reviews in addition to a recommendation from one of the Central West Ends prominent realtor's.

We interviewed and received bids from a dozen tuck-pointers and plasterers. The bids by tuck-pointers ranged from $1,600 to $18,500. We were told many different theories on what we needed to do to prevent some plaster problems on the top floor. Tony from Irish was very knowledgeable and helpful. The bids for the tuck-pointing and plastering jobs from Irish were not the lowest, but were both reasonable. We ultimately decided to hire Irish for both jobs. After we agreed to hire Irish, his team appeared for the jobs the next day. When they removed the plaster in a couple areas, they said there was a problem coming from the roof. Then they went up on the roof with me and identified the likely causes of the problems. Irish gave me a bid to do that work too. Fortunately for us, however, the roof was still under warranty and our roofing company (Republic) came out and did the work at no cost. But I am grateful to Tony and his team for spotting the issues and identifying what needed to be done. His team of tuck-pointers and plasterers were timely and professional, and did a good job of cleaning up when they were done. We were very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Tony and his crew did plastering in several areas in the top units of our 6-unit condo building. They also did spot tuck-pointing around the entire building.

Tony came with his crew and lifted the slab even with the rest of the walkway. Tony is very personable and his crew is easy to work with and cooperative. They did a few small "extras" at no additional cost to make the overall appearance better. Tony said he is guaranteeing his work for life, though in writing it says three years. I believe Tony will stand behind his work. He did come down on his price a bit which was what clinched the deal plus he could schedule it quickly. His crew matched the areas that needed patching to the rest of the walkway so it doesn't look patched. They cleaned up the area well when finished. They even made a corner where I wrote the initials of my grandchildren. :)
Description of Work: I had a slab of concrete that was sinking on one side. of our walkway.

Description of Work: I have an old concrete front porch with stone foundation....perhaps 60 to 70 years old in Bel-Nor. I got an estimate almost immediately and work began promptly. I also had my old tuckpointing on the brick house restored.Tony Monaghan and his crew were fabulous, punctual, knowledgeable, courteous and did a great job restoring the old porch to its previous glory. I have only good things to say and would advise anyone who wants a quality job and great service to contact Irish Construction LLC. This was a totally positive experience. Thank you, Irish Construction Co. Susan Oswald
My porch steps were a mess and they tore the steps apart down to the ground and rebuilt them, and added new bricks on the first two levels as they had literally started disintegrating. The original foundation was cracked and crumbling and the guys came in and chipped all the old concrete off the rocks and applied a BUNCH of concrete around the house. My sidewalk was in as bad of shape as my foundation, and Tony's deal was too good to pass up so now my sidewalk looks great.
Description of Work: Tony actually came over to rebuild my front porch steps (all brick) and repair my concrete around my rock foundation on my house. His crew of 4 arrived early and worked all day. I was so impressed with their work that I had them come back for a second day and redo the concrete on my sidewalk and front yard steps in front of my house and along the side of my house. If I found any discrepancies I talked directly and it was fixed.
Irish Construction was very easy to work with and also reasonable cost-wise. I would use them again and would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Irish Construction was originally brought in to provide plaster repair services. Plaster-work repairs were made throughout the three story house. Upon investigating some of the causes of the plaster damage, the source was found to be tuck-pointing issues. Irish Construction also performs these services, and additional work was contracted for. Two chimneys also needed either tuck-pointing repairs or rebuilding. This is work that had been identified about 10 years ago, and was never undertaken. The chimneys were in pretty bad shape, one both bowing at the bottom (potentially splitting) while also leaning forward. The other chimney was badly leaning to the side. I decided to have both chinmeys rebuilt, including adding a liner to one which had never been lined. Spot tuck-pointing was also performed around the whole house and a detached two-car garage. A basement wall that leaked storm water runoff at times was sealed. Some spot concrete sidewalk and step repairs were also made.

Overall I was pleased with the service Irish Construction provided. Tony and his crew responded rapidly to our initial query and provided a verbal and written quote that beat their main competitor by a considerable amount. They contacted me when they found out they had an availability, resulting in the job getting underway several days ahead of schedule. Their crew also worked quite rapidly and the job was done in less time than expected. Previously the old mortar was crumbling and there were remnants of old plaster falling off the walls. Now the walls look simply wonderful -- clean and solid with impeccably applied mortar and overall outstanding workmanship. I couldn't be happier about the quality of the work itself and what I was charged for it. The only downside to the job was a decision to clean up the dust using dirt blowers rather than a shop vac, which created a dirt cloud that seeped through the floorboards and into my home. Tony and his team were rapidly responsive to this, however, and did an appropriate cleanup of the basement.
Description of Work: Irish Construction performed cleaning and tuckpointing of the interior foundation walls of our 114-year-old home in the Central West End. They also subcontracted with a carpenter who came to provide window adjustments to improve basement ventilation.

Tony has done several jobs for us over the past few months. We are doing an entire kitchen remodel and he has done all the masonry plus some extra tuck pointing around the house. He has been on time and often early. He gives us competitive bids and does the job well. We have used him to brick up windows, move doors, open up doors, plaster walls and do some outside water prevention. All was done with great service and fast turn around. We live in a three story 100+ year old home and he is our go to mason. Highly recommend!

The reason we suspected the work was not being executed as promised was when the worker on the wall would not come down from his ladder at my wife's request because the wind was increasing and it was beginning to rain and she was concerned for his safety. The worker had been told by Mr. M. that for him to earn his half of the $2500 (that the owner's will pay on the completion of the wall) the west wall needed to be completed that day. My wife was confused and told the worker we had recently paid $3000 to Mr. M for completion of the west wall. The employee immediately learned he was being cheated of his pay and left our property. That evening Irish Construction was fired from the job. The next day the business owner showed up on our property was very angry and threatening. Ultimately another company completed the remaining 1/3 of the west wall of the house but when the wall is viewed from street level a two-tone color effect is evident, because the good quality 1/3rd has a different appearance than the poor quality of the other 2/3rds. In March 2006 the company initiated arbitration against us (case #222097) with the Better Business Bureau. Both parties involved, Irish Construction and us, signed an agreement to abide by the legally binding decision from the arbitration case. For our defense of this case we supplied a chronology of events, evidence of payment and an evaluation of the work, done by a professional carpenter/business owner; the owner of Irish Cons. did not submit any documents. A decision for the case was made October 2006. Here are the reasons for the decision made-this is from the records for case #222097. It is clear from reviewing the documents submitted by the consumer that the business failed to comply with the verbal contract agreed upon between the parties. The work performed by the business was sub-standard as noted by the business' own employee as well as through an inspection by a third party contractor. The poor business ethics displayed by the business in attempting to mislead the consumer with excuses for their shoddy work ultimately resulted in their termination by the consumer. This warrants a decision requiring full reimbursement to the consumer. Additionally, for the protection of the consumer, a lien waiver should be provided by the business to the consumer with the reimbursement check. (Irish Cons. seems to have disregarded the arbitration agreement they signed because nothing from the decision has arrived). I don't recommend them!
Description of Work: In April 2001, we hired Irish Construction (Tony Monahan) to totally tuck point the four exterior walls of our historic brick house at a price of $3000 per wall. Previous owners had allowed ivy to grow over it for many, many decades causing the mortar to become soft, sandy and unable to reliably shed water. He promised to grind out ALL of the mortar to the consistent depth of at least 1/4 inch and then replace ALL mortar on our home for a uniform appearance. He required $3000 from us to start the work on the west wall. By the time his worker had completed 2/3 of the first wall, we suspected that the work was not being executed as promised. So we climbed the ladders to visibly inspect the tuck pointing and discovered that the new mortar was merely a skim coat of fresh mortar over the existing soft and crumbling mortar. I phoned him that evening to discuss the problem and he refused to re-do the work or refund us our money. I had no other recourse but to fire him during that phone call and tell him not to return to our property. We hired a qualified mason to finish the top 1/3 of the wall and finish the entire house. We filed a complaint against Irish Construction with the Better Business Bureau.

When my secretary informed me of this review I felt I had to respond myself! I would like to write a novel on these home owners, husband and wife both hysterically insane, no word of the truth has been written there, my quality of work as shown itself in St. Louis over and over again. Any negative review on Angie’s List for my business, Irish Construction, is from people who didn’t give me a chance to show my skills; no work even completed. I am a man of business; I do good work, and always make my customers satisfied. This story is ELEVEN years old!! This is fictional slander. I am a good horse, I’ve been in the race, and I keep winning. The member’s owe me $9,000.00 for breaking there contract! I hope that this review of my company does not sway any new customer, please continue reading down the line of all of the wonderful reviews! As for the Better Business Bureau, my company is A+ rated!!!!!

Anthony came out and asked what I thought was wrong with the steps. He seemed to think they were fine. They are obviously moving and cracked. He seemed to be uninterested in doing the work and indicated that the yard would be a big mess for a very long time. When asked about a price to replace them, he said between $7,000-$10,000. I asked him to give me a written estimate, but he said he would email me one. He proceeded to leave without knowing my email. I asked how he was going to send it to me and said to email his office. Have never heard anything (which is ok, since I received a bid from a company I've used before and like - they suggest only replacing 3 of the steps for only $1500).
Description of Work: Called out to look at replacing concrete steps that have been pulling apart.

I never had a chance to prove myself or do the job. Every time I have had opportunity to do work the homeowner is pleased. I went to your job; I gave you an estimate and told the truth about the situation. I did not drive an hour out, half hour talking, and an hour back to see the city of St. Charles, I came out to help you. There was no money exchanged or contracted signed. If you look at my reviews on Angies List and BBB I am one of the best companies in STL.

Tony said he would meet me the following day with one of his workers. He showed up on time, assessed the job, gave me a quote, and, after I accepted the quote, finished the entire job the same day. They filled all of the cracks and matched the surrounding concrete or, in the case of the patio, the surrounding aggregate. I didn't have the skills to do this work myself so I was delighted to find someone who would take on this task.I couldn't have been happier and will definitely call them first the next time I need concrete work done.
Description of Work: Repaired cracks in the garage floor, garage foundation, and patio.
Irish Construction's owner showed up when scheduled to give me an estimate. He reviewed the details before he left, then sent me an email confirming our agreement. He and his crew showed up the next day and worked at what I considered a very fast pace. All work promised for that day was completed at the end of the day. They returned the next morning and finished up the remaining work (some of which I added during the first day as I realized how good Irish's work was), then leaving everything in pristine condition.
Description of Work: My old brick patio was set on sand and was a source of water leaking into the basement. The owner came up with a solid two part plan to remedy the problem, and executed it with exceptional craft, the very next day! Irish Construction also re-did two brick walkways (that required cutting out all the old mortar) that now look new. They additionally re-surfaced an old cracked and chipped concrete step at my back door that now looks perfect and brand new. The owner displayed superior knowledge and experience in his quiver of skills and managed his friendly crew well. I am thrilled with the fresh, new results.

The service was prompt, the work was of excellent quality and performed by experienced, knowledgeable people, the price was reasonable, and the job executed for that agreed-upon price went beyond that specified in the estimate to achieve a better end result. This is a fully competent operator with an honest desire to please the customer.
Description of Work: For a 1924-vintage brick home with plaster interior walls and outdoor stone detailing, Tony and Irish Construction repaired plaster damaged walls and ceilings on the 3rd floor and in the garage, leveled and tuckpointed a brick and stone front porch, and tuckpointed stone walls bordering the concrete driveway.

concrete repair

The 80-year-old, 120-foot-long, three-foot-high, concrete retaining wall between my property and my down-hill neighbor was cracked, leaning, and in danger of collapse. After a preliminary research phase, I determined that it was leaning too far to safely be repaired again, and therefore needed to be removed and replaced. The collapsing fence on top of the wall needed to be replaced as well. To prevent future water damage to the new retaining wall, the back yard needed to be regraded. I also decided to demolish the badly water-damaged sunroom at my back door rather than repair it -- especially since it turned out to have been added to the house some 30 years ago without a permit and was not built to code. I would replace it with a small deck after the yard was regraded. This is a large, expensive job but I could only budget about $30,000 for the whole thing. So I contacted five different highly-rated contractors for bids, including Irish Construction. Anthony was very accommodating when I had to reschedule because of my husband's unexpected hospitalization; as were all the other contractors. Anthony and Tony arrived promptly at the rescheduled appointment time on May 3. One of the first things Tony asked was what other bids I had on the project. I told him that I had gathered some preliminary ballpark estimates in my research phase that had ranged from 5k up to 30k for replacing the wall and regrading the yard. But I could budget no more than $15,000 for this portion of the job, I said, because of the other work that needed to be done. I explained that I was interested in doing the work in as cost-effective a manner as possible while still being workmanlike, not shoddy. I told him that I had not yet received any formal bids. Tony then asked if I was ready to do the work right away. We had already arranged financing, so I told him that, yes, as soon as we signed a contract he could start the next day. I was very eager to get the work done as soon as possible. I also told him, though, that I had other contractors bidding on the job. We would have to hear from all of them, and my husband would have to recover his health enough to review the bids with me, before signing a contract. After he and Anthony had looked over the property, Tony suggested that instead of replacing the entire wall he would replace only part of it. Instead of removing the crumbling, unused stairs at the end of the wall, he would refinish them with a new coat of concrete. This sounded like it would save money, but I was concerned that it would only be a stopgap. I asked Tony if that was a solid, workmanlike solution that would last another eighty years. He waved away my concerns by saying that in eighty years we'd all be in heaven anyway so what would it matter? I asked about regrading the yard and replacing the fence. Tony replied "that's for the landscaper", not a job for him. This concerned me, because I'd hoped that the grading would be done by whoever replaced the wall at the new grade. Tony said that instead of demolishing the sunroom he could remove the damaged siding, repair the damaged wood in the wall, and then plaster over the whole thing. While I was intrigued by the idea of a plastered addition on my neoTudor home, I told him that I would rather demolish it. Besides the buckling siding, water-damaged exterior walls, bad electrical wiring, insufficient insulation, rattling windows, moldy drywall, and leaky roof, it was inconveniently located and therefore never used for anything but storage anyway. Tony insisted that having a room was better than not having it, and he could fix it for 10% less than anybody else. It seemed that Tony was not listening to me. But he had a good reputation as a craftsman, and might be right about all this, so I reserved judgment. Tony sent me a bid that very evening. The $14,000 bid was for replacingonly a portion of the wall and resurfacing the sidewalk and stairs, not removing them as I'd wanted. The bid did not include grading or fencing. Considering the reduced scope of the work bid on, this was by far the highest bid we received. Also, I worried that Tony might be difficult to work with, since he was not as responsive as I'd like to my concerns and wishes. Again, though, I reserved judgment until hearing from everyone. Over the following week, four other contractors came out to bid on all or part of the job. Anthony called me every single day asking if I was ready to start work with them. I pressed the other contractors to give me bids quickly, to accommodate Irish Construction's need to have a quick decision. My husband and I thought it over, and within a few more days we decided to split the work between two other contractors. We entered into the process of negotiating contract specifics with those contractors. Until we actually signed the contracts I did not want to close off my options with the other three companies. But I wanted to give them the courtesy of letting them know what the situation was. Two of them told me that they appreciated that I had considered them, and they hoped they could get my business in the future. Irish Construction was another story. First Anthony tried to bargain with me, saying that if I would send him the bids from the contractors I was considering, he would do the same work for 10% less. I explained to Anthony that I was uncomfortable doing that to two workmen that had given me acceptable good-faith bids, when I'd already told them I would accept those bids. I also preferred to use the same contractor for the regrading as for the wall, and with Irish Construction I'd have to hire a separate landscaper. I said that I still thought well of their craftsmanship and would certainly consider them for future work (the brickwork on my front porch). Tony called me later that same day and attempted to haggle some more. He said his bid had been based on what I had told him about my budget, not on what his costs would be. He said he could actually charge much less for more work. He said that he could bring in a landscaper as his subcontractor to regrade the yard and replace the fence, that he could replace the entire wall, and that he would replace the sunroom with a deck if that was what I wanted. He also insisted that he could do all this for 10% less than the two contractors I was already dealing with. I tried to explain again, as politely as I could, that I do not enjoy haggling. I expect straightforward bids on work, and I would treat bidders in a straightforward manner. My word is important to me. I would not undercut offers I had already verbally accepted, unless those bids fell through for other reasons before the contracts were signed. Tony became loud, rude, and abusive on the phone. He said I had lied to him at the time he came out to bid, saying I could start work right away when here it was almost two weeks later and I still hadn't signed a contract. He insisted that the only reason why I would have told him that I had not signed contracts yet was to bargain with him. He said that I had brought him in to bid first so I could show his bid to others and get them to undercut him. I had done no such thing, and told him so. I told him that I felt insulted. Tony yelled a more plain insult, then slammed the phone to hang up on me. I was literally shaking after the call, it was so disturbing.
Description of Work: Irish Construction was one of five contractors I contacted for bids on extensive work to be done on my property, including replacing a 120 ft long concrete retaining wall that was collapsing. Tony and Anthony came out to bid on the job. Tony ignored what I said about what I wanted to have done, and bid on what he suggested should be done instead. I decided to hire a different company that was more responsive to my needs, and less expensive as well. When I told Irish Construction we'd accepted a different bid, Tony was surprisingly unprofessional and rude. He yelled insults, and hung up on me. I know the company has good craftsmen, and the engineer, Anthony, seems very professional and courteous. But I would be afraid to work with Tony.
