We negotiated a price set up a time for them to start the work. When it came time for them to start the work, Tony called me and told me that he didn't realize that the property was two stories and he couldn't honor the price we negotiated. Keep in mind, the price we had negotiated wasn't the lowest quote I received, but I was willing to work with Tony because I enjoyed speaking with him. Needless to say, when he told me he couldn't honor the agreed upon price, I decided not to do business with them. I understand mistakes happen, but a negotiated agreement is a commitment that a business shouldn't break. That being said, Tony seems like a very friendly guy, but I was very disappointed in the outcome of our negotiation. I ended up using another tuckpointing firm that did a great job at the price I had previously negotiated with Tony so it all worked out in the end.

I had given Mr. [member name removed] a price over the phone while he was in California, it was a rough bid, he did not give me proper sizes of his home. I never took any money from or we had a written contract with Mr. [member name removed] . To humor me, telling me that I am a nice guy is ridicules, I don't go out and put everything on the line for my personality. I get the job done, and I do it right. If Mr. [member name removed] is so happy with the guys who had done the work in the end, I am happy for him. To comment on Angies List is ridicules, if you look at any of our bad reviews, it is all on work that was never even started, no contract, and no money taken.

I had a very good experience with Irish Construction. Tony and his team are knowledgeable and highly skilled. They did a great job on the masonary and the interior plaster work. They kept the job site clean and did a thorough walk through with me so I could see all the work that was done. We had a few other areas that were not discussed during the estimate that Tony quoted and completed that day.
Description of Work: We first called about some interior plaster work and basement water proofing. Tony explained our basement issue was actually an exterior tuck pointing issue. And after walking the site with him it was quite apparent. Tony did a great assesment of the issues and saved us from repairing the wrong thing. The plaster work was in the kitchen ceiling.

Overall, and in detail, I don't know how the job could have gone any smoother or the final result, any better. Tony and two assistants did an excellent job, efficiently, professionally and with great care and expertise. All at a very reasonable cost. A corner of my home had settled a bit due to recent drought. Slight, existing cracks became significantly worse. The problem was confined to the front wall finished in stucco. I discovered Irish Construction on Angie's List, called and asked for a visit and estimate. They have numerous very positive reviews. I was told when Tony would be out, and he arrived promptly just a couple days later. He looked things over and described what was needed and how he would do it. He gave me a bid then and there. His price was very fair as I'd had a couple other quotes before his. A couple of days later, I called his office and accepted the proposal. He came out with 2 assistants on the following Monday. They patched all the cracks in the front exterior wall as planned. About 30 linear feet. There were other obvious flaws/minor damage in the brick steps and a sidewalk slab at the entrance to the house. We did not discuss this area at the time of his initial visit. He offered to do that also while they were there. Again, at a very fair cost. They tuckpointed the brick steps, leveled a large sidewalk slab and filled the gap between the stairs and walkway. Tony was there throughout the entire job. (very rare in my experience) Doing much of the work himself and directing his skilled helpers for a smooth, efficient job. It went faster than I expected and the results exceeded my expectations. They were careful working around the landscaping and did a good job with clean-up. I will definitely use them again and recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Patched about 30 linear feet of moderate cracking in exterior of stucco wall. Some tuckpointing of brick steps at entry to home. Also leveled a large sidewalk slab and repaired large crack between it and brick steps.

The contractor treated me with contempt and unprofessionalism. First he asked if I had another estimate. When I said that he was the first so far, he started laughing at me and telling me I was in trouble. I responded that I was in the process of getting other estimates but he was merely the first to arrive. He provided a verbal quote and pressured me to agree to it, so I told him I would get back to him after meeting with other contractors. Then he said I should be worried the next quote would be even worse, and he might increase his quote by then. Overall, it looks like the contractor has many positive customer reviews on Angie's List, but also a significant group of people who have had experiences during the bidding process of being treated with pressure and disrespect.

We never even did the job; she wanted a cheap patch job, which would be the wrong road to go down, which I didn’t want to be responsible for having a part in her being unhappy down the road. She didn’t want to hear the truth. To make up scenarios is wild and crazy. I was honest and gave my opinion. I was not threatening, for to be scared I personally would vandalize her home is INSANE and a huge insult. It’s extremely disrespectful to Irish Construction to read this review. That is very odd that she would even think that, shows you her state of mind. Obviously for $225 she patched her problem areas, and I hope that she will be happy with her job in 5 years from now.

Irish Plaster was very punctual on starting their work. Unfortunately when they did their work, they took a number of shortcuts that generated unsatisfactory results. First and foremost was the short cut of not waiting for the browncoat (first coat) to dry and also to seal the water damaged locations before applying a porous textured plaster to the surface. This resulted in dark stains where they did the undercoating and where they did not seal the water damage. Additionally, they took a shortcut of taping around light switch plates and other structures rather than removing these items before plastering the wall. I was unhappy with this approach and removed the light switch plates in order to discuss the short cut approach. They proceeded to patch around these features, along with thin areas of the wall, with plaster of a different color and texture. I am left with a wall with dark stains in some areas and light yellower patches of different texture in other areas. The hodgepodge result is unacceptable. The owner of Irish Plaster has tried to blame me for the lighter discolored plaster around the light switches and thin spots on the walls, and wants me to pay additional for correcting his mistakes by paying for the labor to tint/paint the walls in hopes that the color will cover up the color and textural mistakes of his crew without guarantee that the tint/paint will resolve the issues. He bullied me into paying the second half of his fees prior to the plaster drying (shame on me) stating that the colors would normalize, and refuses to discuss how to move forward in a constructive manner - cussing and threatening me over the phone. I asked that he come by and look at the work after it has had time to dry, so that we could move forward with a solution that reflected well on his profession. I informed him that I would need to post my experience on Angie's List and BBB if he refused to work with me. He then started to threaten to slander me on the web. I would like to move towards a solution where I am happy with the job, and Irish Plaster could be proud of their work. I am not optimistic of this outcome, but remain open to working towards this endpoint.
Description of Work: Cracks in the ceiling plaster were repaired and base coat plaster was applied in some locations, and textured/tinted plater was applied to one room, a stairwell/hallway including walls and ceiling.

Response from Irish Construction
This work was done extremely professionally as with any other job Irish Construction is hired to do. I did as [member name removed] Suggested, and the job turned out perfectly, when he removed the light covers and plaster didn't match with existing he blames me. He calls me, I told him I would fix it if he paid some labor to resolve job. It was 99% his fault. He calls me on a Sunday when I’m busy with my kids demanding me to come to his home, and then he insults me when he said he would rather talk to a woman than talk to me. And when I told him there would be no women to talk to on a Sunday, or now any other day, because I didn't like his tone, he was outraged. To me it was an obscene request to come on a Sunday as it is. My company is not in the business of ripping people off. I do 100% great work, and I am very disappointed in him for going down this road. If there is ever an error on a job it is corrected right away, we have a great reputation on Angies list and the BBB. We would like to resolve this problem with [member name removed], but threatening me to ruin my reputation is inappropriate, I can only control myself. I am responding as mature as possible to this situation. We worked in STL for a long time, and our reputation out stands us, to blame me for something that he created himself is pathetic.

Tony and his crew did an outstanding job getting my broken down house in order. With two large holes to patch in the living room and hall, the Irish team made quick work and returned my house to order. The front steps have been damaged and dangerouse since I moved to this home. Tony had these in top order in one day.

Tony, the owner, and a prject manager came out within 24 hours of my call to provide an estimate. We agreed upon the price, and the commenced work two days later. Surprisingly, Irish Construction completed the job the same day! We were very impressed by Tony and his team at Irish Construction. We will definitely use them again if needed!

Irish Construction was professional, courteous, thorough, fast, and did an excellent job. They unloaded all of their equipment onto tarps, kept the work area clean, treated me with every courtesy, and left behind no trace of their being here other than the excellent repairs they made. I couldn't be happier. The mason and his assistant knew their business and went straight to work. The owner, Anthony, was personable, honest, and a pleasure to work with. I will be calling them again the next time I need masonry work performed, they were great.
Description of Work: Irish Construction provided an estimate of the work to be performed, which included tuckpointing the brick chimney on my home, repairing the chimney cap, and patching/repairing several areas of the exposed exterior stone foundation. I accepted the estimate and Irish Construction performed the work the next day.

{Member name removed} asked me for a rough quote over the phone, I gave him a few different scenarios and options, I told him I was really busy, and to get more quotes and we would talk in a few weeks. It is unfair to make a judgment about Irish Construction when we have not physically done any work.

This is an old building (1915) and we are seeking Historic Tax Credits so the job is more complicated than a normal renovation. The existing plaster walls and ceilings were in good shape considering their age but there were cracks, soft spots and holes. Fixing all the problems and coordinating the trades was not obvious. I really appreciated Irish Construction returning to the job site to fix places we overlooked or could not be fixed by the drywall contractor.
Description of Work: Patching electrical outlets, can lights in five rooms and general repair. Fill six inch hole in basement masonry wall. The guys who did the work were awesome. I don't think this job was easy. At completion, Tony wasn't happy, I wasn't happy. I think that a clearer schedule of work would have helped. Tony worked hard to make it right. He sent his guys back to finish some large cracks at the tops of walls that the drywall contractors could not fix. He worked on the price and from his many phone calls I see that it was important to him that the job was done correctly and that I have a good experience. I think a lot of contractors would have just walked away but Tony is an exceptional guy. Thank you Tony!

Since the house had been vacant for several years, there was a great deal of water damage, first to a bulging kitchen wall and second the decorative ceiling molding in two corners of the living room where the plaster had almost melted with the amount of water that had saturated it. After a friend's recommendation and reading about Irish Construction on Angie's List, I called and set up an appointment with Tony to come and inspect the damaged plaster. After a consultation, he said that he could repair the damaged areas and set up an appointment for early the next day to get started. They showed up on time and began working on the kitchen wall first. After removing all the bad plaster down to the brick, Chris worked on filling in the damaged areas and then completely surfaced the wall, so that it was pristine and beautiful upon completion. Next it was on the to living room where we had the decorative plaster damage and personally, I didn't think it was possible to repair as it was originally designed with three tiers of plaster on the wall matched by three tiers of plaster on the ceiling, much like stair steps. After watching the slow and patient process that was use to repair this area, I was very impressed with this companies' plastering skills. Not only does it perfectly match the undamaged plaster, but there is no indication that it was ever repaired. In my estimation, it shows the talent and skill that was required to complete a difficult project. Tony came by to inspect and be sure that we were completely satisfied with the work and I couldn't thank him enough for the astonishing transformation in both areas.

We noticed several spots around the exterior brick that were in need of tuck-pointing on our ranch style house. Tony gave an estimate and explained that water was able to seep into these areas and cause damage to the interior walls. After looking inside, I realized that he was absolutely correct as we had matching damage areas on the inside as well. I agreed to his price and he came the next day to begin the project which took most of the day. It was a lengthy process and some of the brick walls had mortar that looked like sand. They even filled some areas that had not been mentioned during the review the previous day. Upon completion of the work, Tony came out and inspected the house, finding a couple of new areas that need work. After a final inspection and clean up, he asked if we were satisfied and we couldn't have been happier. Thanks for a wonderful job!

After having Irish Construction work on some exterior tuck-pointing we had them back to work on our chimney which was in sad shape. It needed tuck-pointing and repair to the chimney cap. After getting several estimates from chimney sweep companies and being shocked at the charge for the work, I was pleasantly surprised at Tony's estimate for the job. They arrived on time and began working on the tuck-pointing and fashioned a slanted chimney surrounded. They even designed a mesh surround for the cap itself to keep animals out of the chimney. All in all, the work went well and was completed on time and efficiently. They did a great job and I would recommend them highly.

I had a fantastic experience with Irish Construction. Tony came out to give me an estimate the day after I called and provided the estimate on the spot. Irish was the only company out of five that provided me a bid on the spot. Further, the bid ended up being around the same price as most others, but with more work included, so I went with Irish. They performed the work only a few days later, and finished a large project (removing facia around house, breaking up old concrete, re-pouring new concrete pad, refinishing steps and porch, and stucco around porch and house) within one day. The work looks so great, I decided to get a little more stucco work done around my retaining wall. I am very glad I went with Tony and would recommend him without hesitation.

They plastered the interior upstairs room and fix the cracks. Then finished the total room with venetian plaster with added color. I was pleased with the job. They cleaned up after they were done. When I contacted Irish Construction on 1/24/12 Tony came out the same day to give estimate. The cost was in in line with other bids I received. A week later the job was started and completed, as stated in proposal. I had a few concerns about a week after completion of job. Tony came out to house and answered the concerns that same day. Tony was there at the start of the job and various time thoughout the day, when the workers were done he came back and we inspect the work at that time. I will contact them again when I need some other brick work

We requested a quote and Tony immediately responded and came by to look at the repair. We accepted the quote, and on the agreed upon day he arrived on time - actually a few minutes early - to get the house key and to get his crew started on the repair. He and his crew put down drop cloths and cleaned up after themselves, and moved furniture we hadn't thought to move. When they came by for a follow-up a couple of days later, again Tony was very respectful of our time. His crew was going to be a few minutes later than they expected, but he arrived on time to let me know they would be late, and they were no more than 15 minutes late. Again, they put down cloths, completed the job quickly, and cleaned up. We were very pleased with the quality of the repair. Tony himself was anxious to make sure we were pleased.

Description of Work: Irish Construction remodelled my kitchen, family room and tuck-pointed my upper portion of my house. The tuck-pointing was great, the kitchen plastering was great but things went down-hill from there. Mr. Monaghan started asking for payment up front for the next portion of the work that I needed to be done. I paid him $7000.00 for the next phase of work to be done. He then came to my house and said that I needed to give him $10,000.00 and we would call things "even". When I pointed out to him that he had already been paid $7000.00 for the next phase of construction and he had not even started that he started to threaten me for the additional $10,000. He said that he was going to place a lien against my house because he said he had not been paid any monies. I have proof of all payments to his company. I then cut all ties with him and his company. Now the floor in my family room is starting to come up, after less than a month and my kitchen floor is also starting to come up. I would NOT recommend Irish Construction to anyone under any circumstances.

This whole situation is a disaster. I am appalled to read this review. I’ve done all the work for the customer, talked to her insurance company, bought all the materials in advance. She paid a quarter of the money at the start then she said she was waiting for more money from insurance which I never received. When I asked for the rest of the money to pay for materials and workers, she refused and buried her head in the sand. I know she had been paid from insurance. When I left workers on the job, she offered to smoke marijuana with them and provide illegal prescription pills. When I found this out I could not believe it. I do not tolerate drug use on any job for anybody, I drug test my workers. I just wanted to exit away from her and this project as fast as possible. She never gave me the final payment, which I have proof of. Her whole demeanor of hiring me was to get money off of the insurance company, whom I have also contacted. She is very dishonest; please see review from October 25, 2012. And to come back now and say such a thing is very immature. 99% of the people I work for are all beyond satisfied with my work, what I have seen going on at the customer's house with the drug use is disgusting and proves that her opinion is vindictive and sad. I have a good reputation with Angie’s list and the BBB. My attorney is now involved in assisting the situation to be reimbursed the balance. Coming from a different country I do believe in working hard, towards the American Dream, which does not involve ripping people off. It’s not what I’m about.

Owner bid for job over the phone. When he arrived, it required more work than anticipated. I would have understood if there was a change in price, but was told by office that he would honor original bid. When I talked to owner he said he needed considerably more money, I left a message that I would be posting a review on Angie's listed. The owner left me a message that he would retaliate against me if I posted a review to Angie's list. I am still saving the message for the authorities. Overall a horrible and scary experience for me.

I never had a chance to prove myself or do the job and there were never any threats. Every time I have had opportunity to do work the homeowner is pleased. I went to your job; I gave you an estimate and told the truth about the situation. There was no money exchanged or contracted signed. We never committed to do anything; I never took a deposit of you. If you look at my reviews on Angies List and BBB I am one of the better companies in STL. Opinions mean nothing if you can’t back them up. I wish you happy holidays and hope you find someone who can tell you the truth. It’s a good horse that goes around the track once, and I seem to have gone around a few times.

Irish Construction quoted a very fair price, and got to work the next day, finishing before sundown. The work was so good that I had them tuckpoint them opposite wall as well, and am keeping them in mind for the exterior of the house as well. Tony, John, and their crew were very knowledgeable, friendly, and got the job done quickly and cleanly. I was very impressed.
Description of Work: Job was to repair and secure the interior side of an exterior wall in the attic of a 120-year-old brick home. The wall was in poor disrepair from years of neglect, with crumbling bricks and mortar. Irish Construction repaired the wall, tuckpointed therest of it, and plastered it for added strength. The opposite wall was also tuckpointed, but not plastered.

I cannot say enough about the service provided by Tony and Irish Construction. We were desperate to find a fix for the rotted boards over the our windows before the rain came and ruined some indoor plastering we had just done. Tony understood the urgency of the situation and came out to give us an estimate just 2 hours after my initial call. By the end of business on the following day, Irish Construction replaced all of the rotting boards with outdoor plaster over all of our windows--all 34 of them! They matched the plaster to compliment the blonde brick and it looks fantastic! They were prompt, professional and we were very pleased with the quality and the price.
Description of Work: Replaced rotted boards over 34 windows with outdoor plaster. Also caulked the windows and did some plaster repair on the front porch.

Tony came to give me an estimate. He arrived on time and was personable and professional. We agreed on a price and time for the work to be done. He was able to start work the next day. Tony and three others arrived on time. They are hard workers. They worked most of the day and completed what I had asked them to do for my front porch. I was very pleased. They came back the next day to do the rest of the work. This time Tony and four others worked all day. I don't think some of them even took a break. They did a great job finishing everything. They were all friendly and polite. I would definitely recommend Irish. If you need concrete work done, they will take good care of you.
Description of Work: I contacted Irish because my front porch and sidewalk in front of it were sinking and tipping forward. They raised and leveled both and resurface the steps, porch and sidewalk. I was very pleased with the work and asked Tony to also resurface my driveway, which had a crack and many chips in the surface. To make everything match, he also resurfaced the breezeway and sidewalk. He put in a French drain for the front sidewalk so water will no longer collect on the sidewalk.

Irish Construction did a nice job. Mr. Monaghan came out personally to do the estimate and gave me one on the spot. He was the only company that was willing to do that. They also called and followed up with us. I explained that they were actually the highest estimate, but I liked them and wanted to see if they would be willing to negotiate. They said yes, and agreed to meet my lowest bid. They were also able to get to work quickly (within the week), which is what sealed the deal. On the day of the work, they actually showed up to the job earlier than I expected. I was told they would arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 and they showed up about 8:00. Wasn't a problem, and was actually a pleasant surprise considering a lot of companies will give you a 4 hour window of time when they say they will show up. I appreciate businesses that don't make you wait. When they arrived, we walked around the house to review the work that was going to be done. After identifying some other problem areas that we didn't intend to immediately fix, Mr. Monaghan offered us a deal to fix some of the remaining issues, at a price that we couldn't refuse to pass up. They worked very hard while they were at our house and did a great job. They cleaned up the work area and were always polite. We have other concrete work around the house that needs to be addressed next year and I will be happy to work with them again.
Description of Work: The company performed spot tuckpointing in several areas, some concrete foundation repair on the corners of the house where it was cracking, and repaired damaged and loose concrete joints in two separate set of flagstone steps.
