We do not have a general contractor and didn't want to negotiate with several vendors. Our priority was reliable, quality work after a previous very bad experience with a private contractor. We were told by a family member that Home Depot's vendors are carefully screened. Home Depot came through. We signed a contract at the end of March. All of the jobs were completed in early May. There were delays here and there due to our schedule and the weather. Gary Schumer, via the Hanley store, was very professional in working through all the details of the jobs. Subsequent contact came from the Home Depot employee who lined up the vendors. Plenty of notice was given before the vendors called to set the installation appointment. We were very flexible on time. The installations were done at four different times. The vendors arrived as promised, they were professional and personable, the work was good. Follow-up by Home Depot was good. There were a couple of small fixes with the gutters that were fixed promptly. There were a couple of errors with the orders. We paid extra for a full screen on the window and it came with a half screen. The replacement screen was sent and we contacted Home Depot to have the vendor come back for this fix. We contracted for a paneled door (exterior) as they didn't have a smooth surface door which was our preference. Subsequently we were told that the vendor did have a mostly smooth door but it was a paneled door that was delivered. We went with the paneled door as style was not a huge issue. We'd use Home Depot's services again. A couple of the vendors mentioned that all of their work now comes through Home Depot and that is difficult to get on Home Depot's list.
Description of Work: Home Depot served as our contractor for four services, a replacement window, a replacement door, new gutters and attic insulation.

Job started out poorly. 2 workers from Superior showed up to remove floor and had a small area completed in 9 hours. Second day 4 workers showed up but soon left to go buy more tools (saw blades and a grinder) at Home Depot. At one point all four people had left the job at the same time to buy tools. Progress on second day went better, but tear out went into third day. Using circular saw and hand grinder to cut and remove existing ceramic floor was a very dusty messy job. We were prepared for this and we had hung plastic up to cover cabinets, island and openings into the other areas of the house. Unfortunatly the Superior workers did not do anything to help keep the plastic in place while working. We had to stop them twice to rehang the plastic and recieved "attitude" from the workers. We felt they did not respect our property. On the fourth day the tear out was completed and the ceramic floor board was installed. A Superior worker damaged the man door between kitchen and garage by repeadedly pushing it open with the ceramic boards he was carrying. When we questioned them about ceramic board placement and what steps were next we recieved more "attutude" from the Superior workers. Day five through day seven installation continued. The two original Superior workers were doing the installation of the new tile and it went fine. The floor looks good. We did 16" tiles with 1/8" grout spacing. They broke a lot of tiles. We only have two remaining from the job. We contacted Home Depot about the door damage and a Superior representitive came out to make a report. We discussed the damage with the representitive and mentioned the workers attitude of being less than professional. Replacement of the door was not smooth. Communication between Home Depot and Superior was not great. We had to call each party after a couple of days to find out what was happening. We were always told they will call us when the door is ready or when they are ready to install. Nodoby called us. We always had to call them after 4 or 5 days. We dealt directly with Home Depot and they did seem to be able to apply to put pressure on Superior to get the repairs completed. We feel Home Depot did fine with their portion of the job. Store assistance in quoting and purchasing the material. The company doing the installation, Superior, had most of the issues. Between not being prepared for a full tear out, worker attitude, damage to out house, job going over plan installation by 2 days, and not getting phone calls returned, it just left a bad feel to the whole job. Home Depot was not perfect in returning calls and keeping in good communication, but they were much better than Superior. The floor is in and we like it. It just should have been easier.
Description of Work: Removal of existing ceramic floor and installation of new ceramic floor in kitchen, utility room and half bath. The flooring, adhesive and grout were purchased at Home Depot. We did utilize their measurement services for $35.00 to obtain a good specific quote. Floor area to be removed/installed was 540 sq. ft. Quoted time for job was 5 days. Home Depot subcontracts all flooring installations to another company named Superior. We had to pay all money up front before any work was informed. Tried to negotiate this - not possible. We did do the floor boards (remove and install), appliance (Fridge, sink, toilet) removal and install by ourselves. This saved $750.00

The price they quoted us was competitive. It was a different material, but was $70 a square foot. Our interaction with them was fine, but we ended up going with someone else. We found someone that matched their price and we thought that their customer service would be better.

Previously, David Foster really went above and beyond to make everything right and to earn back our trust after a problem with a subcontractor. When we decided to purchase countertops through them he put us in touch with Eija, who helped us with them. She is extremely responsible and knowledgeable, and she actually personally brought us a sink, in a rainstorm, when there was an error. I was absolutely amazed at their responsiveness, and couldn’t be happier with the steps they took to satisfy us completely.

The Home Depot sales staff was OK; however when Home Depot sent someone out to measure the door, they did not measure it right. So, when the installer came out to install the door, there was a gap at the bottom. The installer had to make some adjustments to the step so he had to make another trip out to finish the installation. He was very nice and did a good job fixing a mistake that wasn't his fault. We were happy with the end result.

Bought carpeting for stairway and bedroom. The sales staff at the home depot store were not very helpful. However, Home Depot's customer service and the installers that were contracted out to do the job were great. Although the installers were late in arriving, they worked quickly and did a good job.

Their design was nice for $100. Everyone was very friendly there. I did not hire them. I wanted new kitchens in a duplex. They "sub" parts of the kitchen remodel jobs. Electric and plumbing bids were separate. The cost of cabinets, install, and other work was never clear. It could be their "point" system for calculating labor could use revamping.
Description of Work: Kitchen design. The kitchen designer printed several plans/bids however I found it difficult to get a "bottom line" figure. The original consult and measuring was done quickly.

Satisfied with electrical and plumbing sub work. McCullough Services was the sub contractor for the cabinet work. The existing plaster walls were damaged due to the tear out. To fix the walls, McCullough placed drywall on top of the damaged areas resulting in multi-depth walls in four different places. When asked about this I was told that this is the way it is done in ''old houses.'' They wanted to put trim on these spots. I was told that one of ''their best workers'' did my work. Walls were also left rough and unfinished. I began the remodel process in July 2005 and am still trying to get my walls fixed. It's been 9 months. I've had other construction companies and remodelers look at the work and they have never seen such poor work.

NO ONE RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS AFTER MANAGER AND ASSISTANT MANAGER SAID THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE HOME DEPOT SUPERVISOR PUT ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY ON THE INSTALLER AND THE INSTALLER ON HOME DEPOT. BE AWARE THAT WHEN YOU USE HOME DEPOT THEY CONTRACT OUT FOR INSTALLATION OF THEIR PRODUCTS. WHEN SOMETHING WENT WRONG THEY EACH PASSED THE BUCK. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WE RECEIVED BADLY MARKED UP AND SCUFFED UP DOORS WHICH THE INSTALLER DID NOT WANT TO INSTALL DUE TO THEIR CONDITION.
Description of Work: I ORDERED TWO INTERIOR DOORS FROM HOME DEPOT. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THE INSTALLER WHO IS A DIFFERENT COMPANY FROM HOME DEPOT SUGGESTED WE LOOK AT THE DOORS BEFORE HE INSTALLED THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE SCUFFED AND MARKED. WE ALSO ORDERED A RIGHT SIDE DOOR KNOB ON ONE DOOR AND LEFT SIDE FOR THE OTHER DOOR. THE DOORS WERE BOTH RIGHT SIDE OPENING. I WAS WILLING TO JUST REORDER THE DOORS AND CALLED HOME DEPOT AS SUGGESTED BY THE INSTALLER. AFTER FOUR PHONE CALLS OVER SEVERAL DAYS TO VARIOUS MANAGERS AND BEING ASSURED WE'D HEAR FROM SOMEONE THE SAME DAY I WENT IN TO SPEAK TO THE SUPERVISOR OF MILLWORK. SHE PUT ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY ON THE INSTALLER SAYING THE DOORS WERE FINE WHEN SHE SAW THEM AND THE INSTALLER INSISTED THE MARKS ON THE DOORS WERE THERE WHEN HE PICKED THEM UP AT HOME DEPOT. WHEN USING HOME DEPOT THEY CONTRACT OUT FOR THEIR INSTALLATIONS. I ENDED UP CANCELING THE ORDER HAVING NO FAITH IN EITHER COMPANY.

PAUL HELPED US OUT. HE WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT REFINISHING HARDWOOD FLOORS. HE POINTED US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND GAVE TIPS AND ADVICE ON HOW TO DO IT, AS WELL AS MADE SURE WE HAD ALL THE SUPPLIES WE NEEDED. WE ONLY PAID A LITTLE OVER $100 FOR THE EQUIPMENT RENTAL PLUS ALL OF OUR SUPPLIES (STAIN, POLYURATHANE, BRUSHES, TACK CLOTH, CHEESE CLOTH, ETC), COMPARED TO THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IT WOULD HAVE COST TO HIRE SOMEONE TO DO THE JOB FOR US. ALTHOUGH REFINISHING FLOORS IS HARD WORK, THE MONEY YOU SAVE IS WORTH IT! I WOULD RECOMMEND HOME DEPOT IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THE WORK YOURSELF! YOU MIGHT WANT TO CALL AHEAD OF TIME TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE EQUIPMENT YOU NEED SO THEY CAN RESERVE IT FOR YOU.
