Description of Work: I had no plumbing problems. I was mainly interested in the inspection to determine how my plumbing was looking. I was told I needed some work that totaled about 825.00 and was told their company was not the most expensive and not the lowest, but possibly in the middle. I was pleased with the inspection. But I was not ready to spend that kind of money yet. The plummer was very knowledgeable and thorough with the inspection. Very pleasant attitude although I was not ready to commit.

Description of Work: Wow is all I can say. We needed a new shower faucet put in. The guy showed up 1 1/2 hours later than scheduled. Then he was here for 5 mins And said we needed a shut off valve that we clearly didn't need. Then he proceeded to tell us that the new shower valve we purchased would not work and he had one in his truck for $600!! We wrote him a check for coming out and sent him in his way. Called another plumber and he fixed everything for $300 total

Description of Work: We used them for the Angie's List Big Deal for a full house plumbing inspection. I don't remember the exact date- it's a guess- it was in the last year. They gave us some feedback & fixed an outside pipe/faucet that had broken and installed a freeze-proof one. The first visit was ok, but they didn't fix the persistent problem we had had with the downstairs toilet. They fixed a minor thing and said all was fine. This came with a 1 yr "warranty" of sorts- and so we called them up when we had the problems with the toilet again/still and they came back and said it was something completely different and it would cost us more $$ again. They said the whole house water pressure was too high, which had not been mentioned before. In the end, I fixed it myself, because I wasn't going to continue paying and hearing different reasons.

Description of Work: Replace a climatrol 1950's furnace with a 95% efficient unit. A lot more work than estimated to remove and replace. I was worried about more expenses. Hoffman stuck but their estimate. Technicians were great. Worked hard. Office staff was very helpful. I will continue to call them for service on our 1890 built house.

Description of Work: Purchased Angie's List Deal of the Day for $29 for plumbing service and inspections. When I set up time/date of service, I told person on the other end of the phone that I was particularly concerned about a faucet in the kitchen. Service person arrived early [OK], showed her my faucet, she turned it on and off and and said that I probably just needed a new faucet--which was not a logical solution with simply turning water off and on. My concern was the whistling that occurred, on occasion, when I turned on the faucet--this happening after installation of an external filter system. She did not bring her Proposal Pad so she wrote her proposal of future service on the labor performed pad. I can not give you details of what she proposed because she did not leave the proposal with me. Her proposal was to replace my faucet with top of the line faucet--faucet and labor to be in the neighborhood of $400+. After about 30 mins she left taking the proposal with her. The date on this review is not accurate--do not remember the date and since I was left with no written material, have nothing to reference.

Description of Work: I called because I believed that my kitchen plumbing was leaking and would need possible copper piping repair. The serviceman located the leak with the faucet rather than the pluming itself. He quoted me a price of $350 for a faucet replacement, which I thought was too high. I ended up buying a faucet at Home Depot for $80 and replaced it myself. The serviceman then did a house inspection, which found no problems.

Description of Work: Price seems good, purchased the 29$ for service call and 59$ applied for service. I had someone call me and tell me there was someone on the way on a date i didn't make. I made another appt, technician came out on time. I told him what specifically the nature of my problem was and how to remedy it. He immediately opened the door to my kitchen sink without checking further he wanted to see my basement. No need....all i had was a stopped up kitchen sink which required someone to go on the roof and snake the stack pipe. I told him that and he said he never heard of that before. What.....?????? He then told me he would have to run a line under the sink out to the main line in the street?????? I said thats crazy.... Cant you just go to the roof and run the line? I told him that i had it done that way in the past., 2 times in 22 years, and it resolved the problem. He wouldn't listen to me, he had a dumfounded look on his face. I asked him How. Much would it cost to do it his way and he advised me $284.00. I said that is nuts, i don't want your service, sounds like a scam to me . Needless to say i didn't use the service. I called another very reputable company who recently replaced lateral lines in the neighborhood. Someone came out immediately and charged me 80.00, with a coupon. Without it would have been 100.00. They did the work, cleared the stack pipe on the roof (as i originally told the RIver's Plumbing Tech) came inside and told me it was just hair blockage. Obviously i was correct. I contacted rivers plumbing and requested a refund. No return call was received. I contacted via email and still no response. They will not refund my 29$ which i think is ridiculous. I take it as if due to the fact i am a woman, I can be taken advantage of. I suggest that we do our homework before hiring any company unless we dont care how much it will cost.

Description of Work: Called about drainage failure from washer, sink, toilet. Came out promptly, but decided without actually looking at anything that our septic system was at fault and charged for the visit. The sewer service found no problem with the septic system function but stayed to augur the problem drains, discovering probable glass fragments which when dislodged allowed free flow. Too bad Rivers Plumbing could not be bothered to do something for their fee

I am very sorry that our work was not to your sastifaction. Typically when a septic tank is full we will not waste the customers time and money cabling a drain line as when the tank is full it is only a very short term fix. I have added what is on the invoice to the customer so you can see we were trying to be fair as possible. Pulled lid to septic tank, tank is full. Informed customer, she has company scheduled to pump pit. Advised her that if problems persist after pumping to call back for service. I am very sorry once again that we were not able to take care of that for you.

Description of Work: Original call was a big deal for plumbing. The toilet was not flushing properly. The individual arrived on time and started correcting the problem. I stated that this was an ongoing problem for a long time. He told me the flushing mechanism was old and not in good working order. He suggested replacing the mechanism. I agreed and thus spent more than the "big deal" amount. I am very pleased with the results and believe it was money well spent. I will hire them in the future if I have a problem. Joan Kennedy

Description of Work: During our first appointment, we received very good service from the plumber. He was professional and straight forward. He arrived on time, and he completed the job in a few hours. With the Angie's List discount, the job totaled to approximately $200. He worked on the spout on the bath tub, which wouldn't fasten on after my husband had removed it to replace it. He couldn't get it back on, and the tub continued to leak. This included the the home walk-through inspection, which he gave estimates for each potential job in the future. He said that there would be an additional discount if any of these estimated jobs were completed in conjunction to the requested one. He also said it could be combined and completed at a discounted rate in the future. However, during our second appointment, we used their service for a clogged drain in the kitchen sink. This wasn't the same plumber as the first appointment. Anyway, he basically just unclogged it in about an hour or less. During this time, he kept negotiating the price. First, it would be an additional $200 to do this necessary "extra" job. Then, he said, what about $150? Then, it was what about $100? My husband still said no because it was already going to cost us $250 just to unclog the sink, which did not take long at all. So, finally, he said, what about $50? My husband agreed to that amount. This kind of negotiating made me wonder how much they were gouging us on the jobs. Strangely, it cost us more to fix the second job, which took a lot less time and effort than the first one. Then, to make matters worse, Rivers Plumbing kept calling and leaving messages, following up on the other jobs that they gave estimates on, to secure future appointments. They call frequently, and it's very annoying and not appreciated at all. Unfortunately, the second appointment, the bargaining of inflated prices of jobs, and harassing sales calls have turned us off completely. We will not be using their services in the future. We do not recommend them. Apparently, they like to gouge their customers. It's awfully suspicious when the plumber can negotiate from $200 to $50!? So, basically, if we would have said yes to the $200 charge, we could have gotten it for $50 if we had said no, which fortunately we did, but still, this made us think that this company is dishonest.

Description of Work: I bought the service to have my main line cleaned out due to the number of trees around my home. The serviceman arrived on time but was unable to remove the cap covering the pipe. He spent several minutes trying but was afraid he would break the cap. He did perform the check on the rest if my drains and plumbing. I ended up having to pay another company to clean the main line and that serviceman had no problem with the cap. I was very disappointed with the service.

Description of Work: I bought the service plan as an Angies list big deal. They did the "whole home inspection" but the guy was unable to stop powder room toilet from running, which was my motivation for signing up for the service plan. I ordered parts from the manufacturer and had rivers send someone a second time. Same guy came and put in the parts manufacturer had sent. Toilet still would not stop running after a flush. Had them come out one more time (this week) and requested different plumber. They sent a different guy who concluded we need a new handle and flapper. He said if I could provide the parts, he could install them for $210. (Price included our "discount" for having a service plan.) I think I'll just find a different plumber. So, good news is I only paid $69 for three plumber visits, bad news is toilet still runs after flush. I'm not a plumber, but are toilets really that hard to fix? I think three visits is enough, will see if another company has any ideas. (Gave them good grades on punctuality and responsiveness because they always showed up on time and not long after I called. Just didn't actually fix anything. )

Description of Work: The plumber that came was great. He was personable and answered many questions for me. He was so disarming that I chose to have him "take care" of several problems since the visit was only charged $29. He tore out part of one 1st floor bathroom in order to correct the leaks in the older faucet fixtures--a matter of changing two gaskets. He looked at, and tightened the water entry point, which was leaking ever so slightly after I turned the water off at that point. He recommended I wait on doing anything at that spot due to extreme expense, and he tightened the fixture. He then replaced the device on an outside fixture that was leaking. The outside fixture appears to be fixed, but the other two items are leaking more than ever. The bathroom fixtures started to leak 48 hours later, after I had already replaced the dry wall and tile. Now it will all have to be done over. Maddening.

Description of Work: I bought the deal for about $89. They looked around the house and then addrressed my concern about a faucet not giving and water pressure. Description of Work: I contacted Rivers Plumbing for an estimate for a plumbing problem. The person I talked to was friendly and professional.
