Description of Work: I needed the kitchen drain snaked. I called Hoffman Brothers on a Thursday and was told the first available appointment was mid morning the next day, Friday. Very professional customer service phone agent. I asked what the cost would be to snake the drain. I was told $95.00 plus any repairs that would be made. Friday came and got a text saying the crew was on another job that's taking longer than anticipated but they would keep us updated. A little while later we got another update stating they are still coming but still delayed. Not a problem. A couple of hours pass so I called the office to speak to a human being to make sure they were still coming. The gentleman looked it up and told me they were still coming, in fact he wouldn't be surprised if they were calling us right now to say they are on the way. About an hour later we were notified that they were NOT coming and the next available appointment was at 7:00 am Monday, we took the appointment for Monday. The tech showed up on time Monday and said he could snake the drain from under the kitchen sink and it would cost nearly triple what I was told on the phone. He also stated that to do the job right he would have to snake it from the rooftop stack instead of from under the kitchen sink. He added that he would need to reschedule because it was too windy and it required 2 technicians for that job, with the price of about $400.00. I informed him that that was about 4 times the price I was told. He admitted that it's misleading or confusing the way they quote things on the phone. He then said he would honor the $95.00 fee if he snakes it from under the sink. We agreed and he went to his vehicle to gather his tools. After a few minutes he returned with an electronic tablet and said he listened to my recorded call with customer service and he stated that I was told $95 plus repairs. I agreed with that statement. He then told me that snaking was the repairs. I disagreed because I called to specifically request that the drain be snaked and obviously if a pipe was broken or a repair was needed that would be extra. He then played the recorded call between customer service and myself on his tablet but insisted that the snaking was the repair. Needles to say, I walked him to the door. It seemed pretty obvious that he didn't want to do the job and a bait and switch was happening. He left, I called Roto Rooter and they were at the house snaking the drain before 8:30 am.

We asked for another estimate for something else and they were ridiculously high. They came out and took care of it within a day which we needed them to, I think it was just more the technician.

 + -1 moreThey installed an air-conditioner for us 9 years ago and the compressor froze up 2 weeks ago. They were able to come out, but it took several weeks and we were without air-conditioning, so we were disappointed that they could not come out right away because of the heat. They then came a bit earlier and came on Wednesday and checked the thing out. They told us that the compressor was frozen and there were some other things that were going to go wrong and we would have to get a new air-conditioner. We could have repaired the air-conditioner, but it would cost quite a bit. They put in a very expensive new air-conditioner and we were satisfied with their work. We spent over $7,295 on that work. I was pretty impressed with the salesman that came out and checked the old air-conditioner.
Description of Work: I used Hoffman Brothers Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. on Saturday and they installed a new air-conditioner.

 + -1 moreThe guy that came was not very impressive. My house is multi level and the way he fixed it made it difficult to figure out how it was. He was frustrated and upset. He kept calling somebody else for a second opinion as he could not figure it out. I had to call the people doing the roof to help him out. The quality of work by the time it was finished was good. However, overall it was not that great. The price was little high for the work done. The guy came quickly and was responsive. I was not happy with the expression of the guy that came. If I were in his place, I would have taken the job as challenging than being frustrated. The guy was here before I came, and my wife was very unhappy with the way he behaved. I have no problem with the company. It was just with the person that came.
Description of Work: I used Hoffman Brothers Heating & Air Conditioning Inc a month ago. They replaced a part of the furnace.

 + -1 moreThe fan on my furnace was not coming on when the furnace fired up. Called Hoffmann and they met me at home after work. Tech. ran through the usual tests and diagnosed the problem. He had the chance to sucker me in to a whole new furnace, but was honest and didn't do that. He just fixed the problem (fan capacitor) in a timely manner and was very helpful!

The technicians spent MUCH more time than was expected on the checkup and maintenance of our systems. This was a pleasant surprise and gave us the peace of mind that the systems were in good working order.

 + -1 moreThey were excellent. They are very friendly and professional. They did a very good job. They showed up the very same day I called which I think is a very good point for them. The price includes parts, service and the furnace inspection. I would hire them again in a New York minute!
Description of Work: They repaired a furnace. For the service fee, just to show up they did a complete inspection of our furnace. They explained everything to me in layman’s terms. The furnace does fine now.

 + -1 moreThe technician ultimately recommended the installation of a new furnace at an approx. cost of $3500. While analyzing the problem, the tech. and I noticed a split and leaky latex hose underneath the main service cover of the furnace. The tech. made no effort to replace that drain hose, but went on to diagnose the problem as a cracked heat exchanger that was causing a pressure sensor to shutdown the furnace. The tech. did not remove and examine the heat exchanger, but based this diagnosis on previous experience. The tech. cleaned my flu, and spent the rest of his time on site preparing the quote for the new furnace and a flu liner for the water heater exhaust. Before committing to the new furnace, I personally replaced the leaking hose mentioned above myself, for a total cost of $1.00 in materials, plus about two hours of my time. My furnace has worked normally since. I also got a quote from another vendor for an equivalent new furnace for about half the price.
