Rhonda was very responsive and professional. She expeditiously gave me a very detailed and thoughtful estimate with additional items such as planting of bushes and power cleaning the patio When I requested some changes to the bid to make it more affordable, she came out a second time so as to make the requested changes. Unfortunately I accepted another bid in the meantime; nonetheless , she was understanding and patient. I wish circumstances had been different as I certainly would have enjoyed working with her. She was very pleasant, very hard working and extremely knowledgable. I recommend her very highly!!
Description of Work: Lawn maintenance, garden work such trimming, weeding, and mulching. I had had no on-going maintenance during the summer and everything was overgrown and in need of attention.

They just provided the drawing, they were extremely high. I had to get them to redo it. They designed sun plants in shaded areas. I had them come out and do it again then we had to do some other corrections and I ended up making a list of every correction I wanted, they didn't listen. Would I use them again? No. They did do what they said they were going to do, they provided me a design. Did it fit the yard? Not without having it redone and redone. They were here on time. The notebook that she provided for the plants, the design that she provided, it was very well done. I think that she farmed that out but that's not my business.
Description of Work: We used Glorious Gardens. They provided a landscape design for the front and back yard.

The clients knew the price of the master design when they signed our contract; if they thought it was too high, they shouldn't have accepted it and then scored our price a D. They received many hours of thoughtful work for that money. Every design has changes during the process of review; that is how the clients get a finished project perfectly suited to their taste. Our long-time designer and myself, the business owner, create the design packet of the design, plant information sheets, and installation plan together so that the clients can review our selections and give us their informed feedback. The goal was an Arts & Crafts planting style to complement their home; when it was done--TWO YEARS before her review--they told me in person before I left that they liked it but would probably install it themselves because of the price. The design was pared way back multiple times from a full, traditional Arts and Crafts design to very minimal plantings and a changed design pattern in order to meet the client's limited budget. Again, a good design is the result of dialogue between the clients and the Glorious Gardens team working on it. I inform clients of that when I meet them. Perhaps this client forgot that while writing a review more than two years after the design project was done. We always give each project 100% effort and communication throughout the process so this review of an old project is a real shame. I hope the readers of this will understand and call me with any questions.

I needed my yard regraded. I contacted Glorious Gardens b/c they had very high ratings on Angies List. When i contacted Glorious Gardens, the owner (whose name i forget right now) came to my home and viewed my yard. she said she was able to do the work b/ would probably not be available to the end of the June b/c she was going to be working on a big project. She was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. she said she would give me a bid within a week. about two weeks later i emailed her to inquire about my bid. she she apolgized and said she would send me a bid soon. weeks passed and i received an email from the owner apologizing for not getting me a bid and she asked if i stll wanted her to provide a bid, to which i said yes. to date (and a week or so later) i still have NOT received a bid.

I truly regret the delay in getting the member her bid. I repeatedly tried my best to finish her bid in a timely manner but my dear friend had just been murdered in May and admittedly it was hard for me to achieve my normal level of productivity for a while. Excuses never sound good, I know. Just the very sad truth. All other aspects of my business have stayed wonderful but I alone as the owner was the bottleneck on getting bids out this spring and summer and it did hurt our opportunities with potential clients. I'm still grieving and will be for some time; however, I did eventually get caught up on my workload and know that our business is running at full productivity in every way now. I just regret that the member and I met at that terrible time in my life and that I couldn't meet her expectations--or mine.

GG has been puncutal, professional and a delight to work with. In my case, I wanted design help and preferred to do the actual buying and planting myself. Rhonda, the owner, came to my house twice for the project. The first visit was an assessment of the whole property and overview of what help I was specifically looking for. The second visit she stood in my front yard, stared at the house, and proceeded to sketch a design plan on the spot, using a combination of plants that I had previously identified and those she recommended for the site. When she left, I had a hand-sketch of the area and placement of plants, and a list of recommendations -- just what I wanted. Now I can move forward with my time, effort and money, knowing I will have a fabulous garden, at my own pace and with room for my own ideas and personality. Her pricing is clear and estimates for future work are detailed. I aim to have Rhonda back this year to devise a master plan for another area of my garden that I can begin working on. I also found Rhonda to be a knowledgeable resource for questions such as: rain barrel installation; constructing a climbing structure for a vine; and soil amendments. I would recommend Glorious Gardens to anyone serious about creating a lovely landscape.
Description of Work: I needed a complete renovation of my foundation plantings; everything had become overgrown. I did not want to go with the traditional row of yews and white pine, which I had just taken out. I wanted a low-maintenance, well-thought out, four-season landscape design -- primarily with native and/or MoBot Plants of Merit plants -- and Glorious Gardens was the answer. I found GG by discovering their website and the pictures of Rhonda's gardens sold me then and there. A gardener's gardener! Iprimarily wanted a design and advice, thinking I would do all the labor myself. GG was totally fine with that, there was no pressure to have them buy the plants and install them, although they are willing to do that too if you want.

Glorious Gardens has been taking care of my gardens for the last 6 years, and as always, they did a beautiful job. The owner came out to look at and discuss what I wanted them to do, and later sent a contract for the work, which I signed and accepted. She later called to let me know when they would begin the work, which was done in stages. They are always on time for their appointments, and get right to work, plus they are friendly. The new mulch, both in the planter boxes and in the tiewall bed, looks beautiful, and really shows off those areas and their plants/flowers. Their expertise makes the gardens look like new every year. As always, I was very pleased and happy with the results. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Glorious Gardens did the annual cleanup of front and side flower gardens and large planter boxes. This included removal/disposal of all leftover fall leaves and other "waste" which had accumulated over the winter. Plants were pruned, as needed, and pre-emergent was applied. Also, one dead fern plant was removed, and another type of plant was planted, in a nearby area, and another existing plant was re-planted several feet away, which balanced out the garden better. A new rose bush was planted in one of the planter boxes, and they added several bags of new pine bark nugget mulch to the three planter boxes. At another time, they returned to do additional work in a long 60 ft. tiewall bed in the back yard. This included pruning/shaping of 7 large juniper bushes, removal of a heavy overgrowth of weeds throughout the bed, which required the application of post-emergent product, and a week later, actual manual digging up and removal of the dying weeds, plus the application of pre-emergent to keep the weeds down. They also fixed a portion of the board fence, which had come loose, at the back of the yard. Then they applied shredded mulch to the entire length of the tiewall bed, and around the juniper bushes.

In early May, when our weather finally settled into Spring, I contacted Rhonda at Glorious Gardens to schedule the annual spring cleanup in the gardens they'd installed several years ago. I also requested that they add new bark mulch, as the original was several years old, plus I requested some new plants to fill in spaces where I'd lost some plants over the years. She said that she would call and come by this week to see what needed doing. She came by a few days later and she offered suggestions as to plants, said she would email pictures of some plants for me to choose among, and email the proposed contract for the work. I received it the following week, and called to confirm my plant choices and she asked me to print the contract she'd emailed, sign and mail it to her with the down payment on the contract. She also said that weather permitting, they would be here to do the work the following week. They did come to install the garden that next week, although it turned out to be a day later than scheduled, as they encountered unexpected circumstances. But they did an excellent job, and the garden looks beautiful with all the new plants, new mulch, etc. I am very satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: Regular spring flower garden cleanup/maintenance, including pruning dead wood, weeding, removing debris, appying pre-emergent to beds, fertilizing all plants, installing new mulch and testing soaker hose system. In addition, this year I requested they add several new plants to the gardens to fill in some bare areas.

They did a good job, but became increasingly difficult to contact Rhonda. She has a cell phone where I would leave messages, and she would contact me weeks later. I became exasperated when I asked her to do a Fall garden clean-up, including weeding and pruning, and reminded her in mid-October. She said it could be done in November, and finally left a message saying they would be here on November 29th. That's not Fall, that's Winter, and it would be difficult to weed and prune at that time. Perhaps they're too busy, perhaps their staff is too small, but they are distressingly unresponsive.
Description of Work: Over the past two years, they have done weeding, planting and pruning. They seem to have gone downhill recently.

WE REGRET THAT THE CLIENT WAS NOT SATISFIED AND BELIEVE THERE WAS A MISCOMMUNICATION AS THE CLIENT HAD REQUESTED AN END-OF-THE-SEASON CLEANUP. AT THE FREE IN-PERSON VISIT TO DIAGNOSE THE CLIENT'S DROOPING DOGWOOD LEAVES, I SUGGESTED WE RETURN AFTER SEVERAL HARD FREEZES SO AS TO CUT BACK EVERYTHING AT THAT TIME, INCLUDING WILTED HOSTA FOLIAGE IN THIS MOSTLY IVY-COVERED LANDSCAPE. THE CLIENT HAD SAID THERE WAS NO HURRY AND I SAID I WOULD CALL WHEN NATURE DICTATED THE TIME WAS RIGHT. I HONESTLY CAN'T AGREE THAT I DIDN'T CALL BACK THE CLIENT IN A TIMELY FASHION. OUR LAST COMMUNICATION WAS THIS IN-PERSON VISIT WHEN I SAID I'D CALL WHEN NATURE DICTATED WE SHOULD SCHEDULE THE VISIT.

What a marvelous company to work with. Rhonda is a wonderful person. She kept in touch throughout all the delays due to the contractor's ineptitude. She made sure that each planting was healthy and placed where the designer had intended. Each time she came by we spent time discussing the gardens that I have planted in the front and side of the yard. Rhonda is quite knowledgeable about her work and understood that I am an avid, seasoned gardener. I wish I had another yard to landscape so I could work with her again.
Description of Work: We have a very small Shaw Neighborhood back yard which includes a garage. The designer met with me and we spent some time walking around and talking about what type of space we wanted and the types of plants that would thrive in the yard. We scheduled a fall 2006 planting but that was delayed due to the shortcomings of the contractor hired to perform hardscape work. The work got underway soon after Mother's Day. The work took about a week and it looks absolutely fabulous.

Because of the poor response from them during the bidding process, I did not sign a contract with them.
Description of Work: I hired this organization last year to do some cleanup for me toward the end of the season. The work was done well and on time. I called them again this year in the hopes of hiring them for a contract throughout the summer. It took two weeks before I got their proposal. When there was a misunderstanding after the first meeting to lay out the work... and I asked for clarification, Rhonda was unresponsive, saying that I needed to speak with Margie, who would call me that night. When I didn't hear from her for 5 days, I made a second call to Rhonda. Margie finally called on the evening of the 5th or 6th day. The follow up contract rectified the misunderstandings, but changed the billing - from getting a monthly bill, to insisting that I pay the moment the work was done - which means I'd have had to stay home and wait for them to do their work each month. Needless to say, I didn't sign the contract.

THIS INTERACTION WAS A SERIES OF SMALL INCIDENTS THAT CAN CERTAINLY BE AVOIDED NEXT TIME. WHEN THE CLIENT CALLED WITH SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BID BEFORE IT WAS SUBMITTED, RHONDA COULD NOT RESPOND BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T MEET WITH THE CLIENT, ONLY MARGIE DID. THAT WAS WHY RHONDA ASKED MARGIE TO CALL THE CLIENT BACK AND ALSO TOLD THE CLIENT SHE COULD CALL MARGIE AS WELL. WHEN MARGIE CALLED THE CLIENT, SHE TRANSPOSED THE TELEPHONE NUMBER AND LEFT MESSAGES AT SOMEONE ELSE'S AUTOMATED VOICEMAIL FOR DAYS BEFORE FINDING OUT SHE HAD THE WRONG NUMBER. MARGIE TOLD THE CLIENT THIS HAD HAPPENED AS SOON AS SHE FINALLY SPOKE WITH HER. THE NEW BID WAS CREATED ON A DIFFERENT TEMPLATE THAT HAD BOILERPLATE LANGUAGE THAT "BALANCE IS DUE ON SAME DAY WORK IS COMPLETE." WE HAD NO IDEA THAT THE CLIENT INTERPRETED THAT AS THINKING SHE HAD TO STAY HOME. WE INVOICE CLIENTS AFTER WORK IS COMPLETED EVEN THOUGH THE BILL IS TECHNICALLY DUE AS SOON AS THE JOB IS COMPLETED. ONE CALL TO GLORIOUS GARDENS AND WE WOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY TO CLARIFY THAT. GLORIOUS GARDENS HAS IMPLEMENTED NEW PROCEDURES OF CALLING CLIENTS MORE FREQUENTLY WITH UPDATES AND ALWAYS FOLLOWING UP A SUBMITTED BID WITH A PHONE CALL TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. WE ARE SADDENED THAT THIS CLIENT WAS SO FRUSTRATED WITH US BY THE TURN OF EVENTS THAT WERE NOT DELIBERATE, JUST HUMAN ERRORS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY CORRECTED WITH MORE COMMUNICATION.

It took longer than I'd expected, though it was mostly due to unforeseen circumstances. Work began in Aug 2006, but heavy rock was discovered under the soil in the tie wall bed (which had to be removed), as was PVC drainpipe from a downspout on my house, which wasn't diverted out of the bed. The landscapers ran PVC piping the length of the bed to the back of the yard, draining into a gravel area, so water won't build up in the bed. They also installed regular garden drain tile. The new tie wall was completed and soil added, all of which took 4 weeks. Due to the heat, the nursery wouldn't dig up the bushes until fall, so in November, 2006 they returned and installed the bushes. They did a fantastic job, the bushes are beautiful, and it really improves the look of the back yard. This is my second landscape project with Glorious Gardens, and I'm very well satisfied. They've done very good work for me, and I trust them. I also have them do spring and fall maintenance on my flower gardens.
Description of Work: Removed a badly deteriorated 90 ft long existing railroad tie wall in backyard, including 31 old cedar trees, sod, heavy rock, and old drain tile inside the wall bed. Rebuilt wall with brand new treated landscape ties, installed two improved drainage systems, later planted 16 beautiful new juniper bushes, installed soaker hoses around each, and mulched/fertilized the entire bed. They also did some repair/replacement work on gaps in my existing fences, replaced a drainage pipe in another part of my yard, and replaced one broken tie on a different tie wall.

The work was completed, but for the money spent, it seemed that the gardens could have been more completely filled in. Rhonda was unorganized and sometimes difficult to reach. THIS LANDSCAPING PROJECT WAS INSTALLED IN MAY OF 2005. THERE WERE SOME UNFORESEEN ISSUES WITH THE SUBCONTRACTOR CHOSEN FOR THIS PROJECT WHICH MADE OUR RESPONSIVENESS TO OUR CUSTOMER LESS THAN IDEAL. WE NO LONGER SUBCONTRACT CARPENTRY AS A RESULT OF THIS PROJECT. MIDWAY THROUGH THIS PROJECT, ONCE WE ALL REALIZED THAT THE SUBCONTRACTOR WAS LESS THAN IDEAL, WE OFFERED TO FIND THE CLIENT A DIFFERENT SUBCONTRACTOR BUT SHE DECIDED TO HAVE THEM FINISH IT AFTER ALL. Rachel Schaper was courteous and knowledgeable. We were, however, plagued with poor communications (not a category on the Angie's list rating). First, she only put sod on half the yard; a miscommunication that could have been addressed with a question or two (it looked bizarre). After that was straightened out, we feel we did not get adequate instructions on the care of the new sod. The landscaping has turned out fine. The sod has mostly failed.

SHE COMMUNICATED WITH US THROUGHOUT ALL STAGES OF THIS SPRING 2006 PROJECT. AT OUR DESIGN PRESENTATION WE GAVE HER A DETAILED DESIGN AND ITEMIZED PLANTS AND MATERIALS LIST BASED ON HER DESIRES AND BUDGET LIMITS. THE CLIENT THEN REQUESTED WE USE SOD INSTEAD OF SEED; THE CONTRACT WAS REVISED AND ACCEPTED. AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF THE REVISED PROJECT SHE WONDERED WHY WE DIDN’T SOD THE BALANCE OF THE FRONT LAWN. WE REFERRED HER TO THE REVISED DESIGN PLAN WHICH ONLY CHANGED SEED TO SOD, NOT THE COVERAGE AREA. WE WROTE ANOTHER CONTRACT, IT WAS ACCEPTED BY THE CLIENT, AND WE APPLIED SOD TO THE BALANCE OF THE FRONT YARD. UPON OUR FINAL WALK THROUGH WITH THE CLIENT, AND AT SEVERAL MORE ON-SITE VISITS, WE REVIEWED HOW FREQUENTLY AND OF WHAT DURATION TO WATER, HOW TO ADJUST WATERING WHEN THE WEATHER CHANGED, AND TO BUY A DIFFERENT SPRINKLER HEAD FOR MORE FLOW AND BETTER COVERAGE. AFTER THESE VISITS, THEIR SUN EXPOSURE CHANGED OVERNIGHT FROM FULL SHADE TO PART SHADE WHEN A NEIGHBOR’S 40’ HOLLY WAS REMOVED! WE’RE HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THEIR LAWN DID TURN GREENER AND MORE LUSH THIS FALL, AFTER THE WEATHER COOLED. THE REST OF THE PLANTS ALSO MADE IT THROUGH THE SUMMER’S INTENSE HEAT AND BEGAN GROWING AGAIN. THE GARDEN WILL CONTINUE TO GROW AND FILL IN DURING 2007; WE CAN’T WAIT!

"The proof is in the pudding!" My front yard is transformed and will only get better as the plants mature and spread. She listened to my needs, discussed possibilities, offered information and advice to help with decisions. Depend on her expertise and "artist's eye" for recommendations. Long delay between first consultation and final agreement (I understand the busy "see-saw" and had said I was in no hurry for completion). Quicker estimate of cost, if possible, even if unable to do work until later.

I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS WOMEN-OWNED COMPANY FROM OUR FIRST MEETING, WHEN THE PRESIDENT AND THE DESIGNER BOTH CAME TO LOOK AT THE PROJECT. THEY ASSESSED MY NEEDS AND WISHES, UNDERSTOOD THE CONCERNS I HAD (SUCH AS THE WATER LEAKAGE PROBLEM)AND DISCUSSED POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS. TWO WEEKS LATER THEY MADE A PRESENTATION WITH A DETAILED DESIGN PLAN, AND I SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH THEM TO PROVIDE THE WORK. THE WORKERS WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL, AND CLEANED UP THE AREA AT THE END OF EACH DAY. I AM HAPPY WITH THE WORK AND PLAN TO HAVE GLORIOUS GARDENS MAINTAIN THE GARDEN FOR ME. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM.
Description of Work: THEY DESIGNED AND RE-LANDSCAPED THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND RE-PLANTED TWO VERY LARGE PLANTER BOXES ON EITHER SIDE OF THE HOUSE. THEY REMOVED NUMEROUS OLD LARGE OVERGROWN SHRUBS AND A RAILROAD TIE PLANTER BOX WHICH HAD DETERIORATED. THE CONTRACT INCLUDED SOME WATERPROOFING MEASURES TO STOP A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH WATER LEAKAGE INTO MY BASEMENT. THOUGH AT FIRST IT STILL LEAKED, THEY RETURNED IN A TIMELY MANNER, AND FIXED THE PROBLEM SATISFACTORILY AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR LABOR. I NOW HAVE A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN WITH VARIOUS FLORAL BUSHES, REED GRASSES, DECORATIVE ROCKS, ALL OF WHICH NOW ENHANCES (RATHER THAN HIDES, AS THE OLD SHRUBS DID) THE REDWOOD AND STONE ON THE HOUSE.
