I specifically told Mike that I wanted a company that would do all three jobs, as I didn't want to have multiple contractors. He assured me that he did all that work, and gave me rough estimates for each (chimney sweep, lock top damper, and chimney liner). He told me to schedule the sweep and his brother would review the other work while here to give me a firm estimate and schedule. His brother came and did the sweep and told me Mike would get back to me on the other work I wanted done. Never heard from him. Emailed him and contacted him via Angie's list, and still didn't hear from him. Found his cell number and sent him a text. He called me back pretty quickly, apologized for not following through, and said he would come by that day to look at the chimney (asked for my address again, which I texted to him). If he came by, I didn't see him. Didn't hear from him again. I assume the sweep job his bother did was ok, but who knows.

He seemed very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I received bad news as my chimney and the cap on top of it had not been installed properly. He gave me a quote on repairing it and advice on what I could do in the meantime.

Gateway showed up on time, assessed the situation and determined they had to come back as they did not have a tall enough ladder with them. They did not charge us for this visit, came back a few days later as promised, and got the job done. I really liked their can-do attitude and appreciate their willingness to go the extra mile for a small job that many other companies obviously considered not worth their while. Will definitely hire them again if we need other work done!

I contacted John Craft, whom we have used successfully for years for our current chimney, to do an evaluation at our new residence that we were have having inspected 3 days later. He juggled his schedule to do the evaluation when all of the other inspectors would be there. He was prompt, and though as always, and we very much appreciated both his flexibility and wealth of knowledge that he shared with us regarding the new fireplace/chimney. He did not require an unneeded sweep prior to the evaluation as it did not need one, probably due to non use by the owner. Again, we've used Gateway Chimney Sweeps for several years now at our current address. John operates with a great amount of integrity and we've never had to question the quality of his work.

In the 10 years I've lived in my home, I've never used the fireplace. We finally took the time/money to have the chimney swept. If I had realized how affordable and convenient it was going to be, I would have done it a long time ago. John was very knowledgable and helpful. We had a little glitch initially because he had to cancel last minute due to an emergency and my husband had worked from home that day to wait for John, so that was irritating, but things happen. We rescheduled and John did a great job. We will use him again next year.

The best chimney experience I've ever had and one of the best service experiences of any kind. I had no trouble getting an appointment and was pleased that I was given only a 1-hour appointment window because it seems that most businesses these days make you block out four or more hours. John was supposed to arrive between 10:30 and 11:30. He arrived at 11:15 and apologized for being "late" saying that he really tries to get to a job at the beginning of the appointment window. He inspected my chimney from the inside and out and asked me multiple questions about my fireplace use. He then said that my chimney didn't even need to be cleaned and that he wasn't going to charge me for a service I didn't need. He only charged $50 for the inspection. I figured he'd make up for it by telling me I needed some expensive repair. Surprise! He said I didn't need any repairs and even pointed out a possible moisture issue with my siding (not fireplace related) and showed me what to look for to determine if there was a problem. He gave me lots of good information on fireplace use, care and safety and left a folder of useful information and an inspection report. He even brought his shop vac in and vacuumed some old ashes out of the fireplace. It's great to know that there are still service providers out there who actually want to provide service and not just collect your money.

We chose them because they were highly rated on Angie's List. We were not disappointed. They were on time and made an appointment within 5 days of our call. They were very careful not create any additional mess and cleaned the chimney like we asked, even leaving behind a very helpful packet of information. We will use them again next year. Their price was very reasonable.

Gateway Chimney was very professional and prompt in their response to our request. When John showed up he was not able to complete the work that day as the chimney was so blocked with leaves that he needed additional help. While he was not able to do the work for their normal standard charge of $130, he did work with us on on the price and still kept if reasonable. They did fine work and provide a wealth of information on how to care for our chimney and prevent issues in the future. I would not hesitate to hire them again in the future for chimney work.

My experience was excellent overall. John was very punctual, courteous, and professional. He was very mindful to keep my house clean while he worked, and as he was examining everything, he was explaining exactly what he was looking at and why each thing mattered. I joined him up on the roof to look at my chimney cap and examine for myself what his concerns were. The price was exactly what was quoted when I called for the sweep. I couldn't have asked for a better service experience.

I called John and got a call back the same day. He arrived promptly at the scheduled time and was very professional and tidy. He is very knowledgeable and took the time to inform me on chimney care and safety. I will definitely be calling him again.

John came out to give an estimate for the work and provided several options for proceeding. When he began the job he arrived on time and even shoveled the snow in my driveway for my pregnant wife. John constructed a temporary plastic barrier around the work area to contain the dust created by the work. He removed the old, poorly installed mortar and tuck pointed the brick fascia. He also removed an old ash trap door and bricked-in the hole. The entire fireplace was cleaned to look like new and a protective sealant was applied to the firebox. The job took one more day than expected, but that was acceptable considering the fine job he did on the fireplace. John also identified other potential problems related to water seepage and recommended contractors to address the issue. John is very honest and trustworthy. He is willing to take the time to explain any issues he identifies, your options to address them and the work he is doing. It is a pleasure to work with him.

The work was completed on budget and on schedule. John communicated decisions and actions well and provided extensive information about options and the work he was doing. His workmanship is excellent, he is passionate about his craft and is very honest and trustworthy.

He returned my call the same day I left a message. Set up an appointment within a week. They were waiting at my house at 2:15 when I returned home for a 2:30 appointment. They were very professional and thorough. They laid down a tarp to protect my floor. Then they vacuumed up the entire fireplace and swept the inside of the chimney. Then they checked the outside for any hazards or immediate repairs. The owner seemed very knowledgeable about chimneys and fire safety when it comes to the use of fireplaces. We currently have a standard bath rug in front of the hearth. He recommended a fire retardant rug from a specialty shop. He also made sure that we had thick gloves and the necessary tools for maintaining a fire. Most importantly, he did not try a hard sale for a repair job. He left us a folder he made up for fireplace maintenance and repairs records. All in all...Excellent customer service.

Our chimney was last cleaned 5 years ago when we bought the house. Since then we have averaged 2-3 fires per week in the winter. John and his son were very informative about chimney safety and did a clean, quick and professional job. They arrived a few minutes earlier than their scheduled time and were finished in about 40 minutes.

When calling to set up the appointment, the woman who answered the phone was very helpful and knowledgeable. We were able to set a time for the chimney work according to my schedule. John Craft and his son arrived on time. They introduced themselves and described what they were going to do. They covered the area around my fireplace so it wouldn't get dirty. They inspected and cleaned the inside. John climbed on the roof and inspected the outside of the chimney. He took digital pictures to show me what he saw. He was very informative about how chimneys work, safety precautions, and some common things to keep an eye on in order to avoid costly repairs down the road. I will definitely use them again.
