There were a couple of minor issues with the siding with job. They were very concerned and made up for it right away. No arguments.
I'm not sure how much they cleaned up, but there was some sweeping (pieces of aluminum and nails) on the driveway that I took care of.
Overall, the job turned out great. I have no regrets and will consider EBS on my next project.
I'm pleased with the repairs they made but will probably not hire this company again.
"My apologies to this member. EBS understands that communication with our clients is critical especially with the amount of time it took to restore homes this year due to the massive hail storm in April. Obviously we failed to meet our own and our clients expectations in this case and have reinforced with our production department just how important communication is."
Gutter removal/replacement occured on Monday, Oct 22nd. It only took a few hours & again the foreman kept me informed of what would happen. This crew also swept the area for debris after they were finished.
Final inspection occured Tuesday Nov 6th. I am currently waiting on the final bill.
I found E.B.S. to be a good company to work with. They provide a project manager (& phone number) to communicate with. The crews worked hard, were proficient & cleaned up after themselves.
I had already chosen E.B.S. in my own mind before joining Angie's list & checking them out. That they had a 5% Angie's coupon just sealed the deal for me.
Once the solar tube came in Mike was right out. Again, he did a great job. He was very excited about the installation of the solar tube which was fun.
We are very happy with the solar tube and are thinking about having another one installed....by the same company!
Cons:
-They charge a 2.5% service charge if you want to use a credit card. Normally, I wouldn't really make a big deal out of that, but when you are shelling out almost 5-grand, it's really annoying. We tried to get them to waive it but they wouldn't budge. In the end we did feel like we got a good deal for all of the work they did so we didn't make a stink over it, but still, it's the principle of the matter
-Did fine some caulk and a few scratches on our new windows. Don't know where the scratches came from but the caulk is definitely from their workers. It's not a large amount so I will probably just try and remove it myself.
-It did seem to take a long time to get the detail trim work started due to other projects for other clients. During the wait time we did have several heavy rains which allowed water to leak onto the front porch (the finished trim work would have prevented that from happening).
Pros:
-For the most part everyone was professional and willing to work with the various issues that needed to be fixed.
-All workers are employees of the company and not sub-contracted out
-workers were friendly and took time to explain to us every step and work through some of the un-forseen problems that old houses tend to bring up
-end result is an old house that looks new. No more leaky gutters, clogged down spouts, or ugly aluminum siding that does not belong on a craftsman style bungalow.
-So far so good on the impossibly persistent leak that we have been dealing with for 2 years, and we have had a couple good rains since they last came out to repair the step flashing that got cut back in the last phase of work.
Will definitely hire again for future work.
I can't really tell if they did a good job, I don't know enough about roofs to judge it. But it looks fine. My only problem with them is that the roof and gutters were finished on July 5th, while the fascia and shutters were not completed until September 21st. (The insurance agent kept asking me for documentation, and I had to keep telling her the job was jot yet finished.)
The crew leader was careful to explain the nature of the work that would be done and requested feedback on his proposed approach. The company's project manager returned two days following completion of the project to both inspect what his workers had done and to review the scope of the project and my expectations of it.
This is the third time we have used EBS for various needs, from new roof to cornice repair, and I won't hesitate to call or recommend them again.
"This is Leo Knese, Co-Owner of EBS. Our motto is "We Provide Solutions, Not Excuses". In this case we did not live up to our motto. We were completely at fault for this matter being dragged out so long and the number of times we had to go back. Bill was our Production Manager at the time and should have seen to these matters in a much better fashion. Bill is a good employee and roofer but as we found out does not have the organization skills needed for that position. We have moved Bill to a different position within the company and hired a new Production Manager with 25 years experience. I have apologized to the client and have taken steps to ensure this will not happen again. Despite having problems with this job we stuck with the client and made it right in the end."
These guys are bad news.
"This is Leo Knese, Co-Owner of EBS. First of all I never speak poorly of a client so this response is merely a statement of facts. I do not lie, I am extremely trustworty and professional. I am sorry this client feels this way, we never want any of our clients to feel they have not received our best. This client signed a contract on 8-31-11. At that time we were telling clients that our backlog to install roofs was 6-7 weeks (due to 2 tornados and a large hail storm last year). This is why the client did not hear anything in 2 weeks. After our estimator left EBS I contacted this client just to go over the contract to ensure everyone was on the same page. After meeting with the client the contract they signed on 8-31-11 stood as was originally written since everything was in the contract that they wanted done. Since I had a copy of this contract I did know what our estimator had agreed to. All of our crews always have a written work order specifying what work needs to be done on each and every job. Our crew did know what needed to be done and did it in a manner that was professional and thorough. Also, our Hispanic crews always have a minimum of 2 installers that speak fluent English. I signed an agreement for this client that stated we would not have any illegal aliens work or set foot on their property. This seperate agreement also allowed for the client to request right to work paperwork from any of our installers. The client never asked. All of our installers are either U.S. citizens or are in this country legally with the right to work. They pay taxes just as you and I do. This was never supposed to be a 1 day job due to the size and very steep pitch of the roof. We never schedule or tell anyone that we are going to schedule gutters/facia or any other work on the same day as the roof work. There would be just too much going on and would present a safety issue. Bill is our production manager. Bill is very professional and honest with everyone. I have never had anyone else accuse Bill of lying to them. Estimaters are called that because nobody bidding a project like this can come down to the exact and precise amount of material needed to complete a job. Sometimes you have material left over and sometimes we do have to pick up additional material. If we did not call ahead of time to schedule the work that was an oversight as it is our standard procedure to call ahead of time. As everyone can see from the rest of our reports on Angie's List we take extreme measures to ensure all of our clients are happy. Do we make mistakes? Sure we occasionally do like everyone else, but we stand behind our work 100% of the time. In wrapping up, when I met with this client before any of the work started I gave them my business card with my cell# on it and told them if they needed anything to please call me. If these problems occurred why didn't they call me? Thank you, Leo Knese."
But Leo went way above and beyond to try to get my business after I called him. He was at my house on my roof himself within 24 hours and came in with this bid of $7910, including the ridge vents and architectural shingles. He brought samples of products and a contract to my workplace, as I was preparing to leave town in 2 days and couldn't afford time away from work. He walked through the products with me, then made it possible for me to sign and put down a deposit before I left town, then letting me contact him with my final shingle selection decision while still having me on the schedule. I did have to wait about 4-5 weeks for the work, as St. Louis area roofers were busy, and the unbearable summer heat slowed down work, but they were at my house, as promised, within 5 weeks. He knew I was about to do screened porch reconstruction and was willing to come back to do that portion of the roof if I needed it, which it turned out I didn't.
His job foreman gave me his cell number and was always accessible to me by phone, as I was not on site while the work was taking place (again, during the work day).Their crew was at my house at the crack of dawn during the 2 days they worked, and they worked VERY hard even during the continued heat (as confirmed by my neighbors). They left absolutely no mess or landscape damage. The only glitch was that they put my cupola (on my garage) back on backward (I could tell by the weathervane), but when I called the foreman, he had it taken care of within a few days, no hassle. The architectural shingles look great, and I appreciate having the ridge vents as opposed to the old-style vents I had previously. My insurance company took my signed contract as sufficient documentation and got partial damage checks to me before the work began.
I would recommend this company to others. With the number of disreputable roofers out there, it's really important to be able to choose someone who does quality, warrantied work as promised, with responsiveness and a company history (so that they will hopefully be around for you in the future). EBS fits the bill.
