THEY PUT THE ROOF ON SEPTEMBER 28,2011. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER THE ROOF LEAKED DURING THE RAIN. THEY FOUND THAT WHERE THEY HAD PUT FLASHING AROUND THE SOLAR PANELS ON THE ROOF, THEY SHOULD HAVE MOVED THE PANELS AND PUT NEW ROOF UNDER THE PANELS AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY DONE. BILL, THE PRODUCTION MANAGER, TOLD ME THAT A CREW WOULD BE OUT THE NEXT MORNING. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP. AT ABOUT NOON I CALLED BILL AND HE SAID THEY WERE RUNNING LATE AND WOULD BE THERE . ABOUT 3:00PM BILL SHOWS UP BY HIMSELF WITHOUT THE TOOLS AND ANY HELP THAT HE NEEDED TO DO THE JOB. THEY WERE PREDICTING MORE RAIN SO I LOANED HIM MY TOOLS AND ALSO GOT ON THE ROOF AND HELPED HIM MOVE THE PANEL. WHEN BILL REMOVED SOME OF THE NEW SHINGLES THAT THEY HAD JUST INSTALLED HE FOUND A HOLE IN THE PLYWOOD ABOUT 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER THAT THEY HAD SHINGLED OVER WITHOUT REPLACING THE WOOD. UNDER FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE NEW RIDGE VENT THEY ONLY CUT ONE SIDE, SO WE ONLY HAD HALF THE VENTILATION. WEEKS LATER THEY FINALLY REDID THE RIDGE VENT PROPERLY. WEEKS AFTER THAT THEY SENT 2 GUYS TO REPAIR THE OTHER SOLAR PANEL. AFTER THEY GOT DONE, THE PANELS WERE UNABLE TO BE USED. A FEW WEEKS LATER, I CALLED LEO, THE OWNER, AND TOLD HIM THAT WE NEEDED TO TALK. HE AND BILL CAME TO MY HOUSE AND THEY AGREED TO REPAIR THE TWO SOLAR PANELS AND REPAINT ONE ROOM WHERE THE ROOF LEAKED. THEY STARTED THIS PROJECT SEPTEMBER 28, 2011 AND FINALLY FINISHED JANUARY 29, 2012. THIS WAS THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY THAT I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH.

This is Leo Knese, Co-Owner of EBS. Our motto is "We Provide Solutions, Not Excuses". In this case we did not live up to our motto. We were completely at fault for this matter being dragged out so long and the number of times we had to go back. Bill was our Production Manager at the time and should have seen to these matters in a much better fashion. Bill is a good employee and roofer but as we found out does not have the organization skills needed for that position. We have moved Bill to a different position within the company and hired a new Production Manager with 25 years experience. I have apologized to the client and have taken steps to ensure this will not happen again. Despite having problems with this job we stuck with the client and made it right in the end.

This is one of the most poorly run businesses that I have ever dealt with. Co-owner Leo is completely unprofessional and untrustworthy. Absentee "Superintendent" Bill is absolutely incompetent and has zero integrity. EBS sent an estimator to our home to bid the job. We followed up with him a number of times before deciding to go with them. Despite the fact that we had gone over the contract and agreed upon the work to be done, EBS suddenly disappeared and we didn't hear anything from them for over two weeks. When we called to find out the status of our job, we were told that the estimator no longer worked for them and that Co-owner Leo would come over to go back over the contract. Leo had no idea what his estimator had even agreed to. Not surprisingly, his roofer showed up unannounced a few days later to do the roof. Fortunately we were home. The roofer had no idea what had been agreed to be done. To make it even more of a cluster f, not one of his crew spoke English. This despite the fact that we had specifically told Leo that we were not willing to have a situation like that occur. The one day roofing job took two days because they didn't have the proper materials. Then we got to deal with Marty, the facia and gutter guy. He didnt' show up on the same day (as we had been told by Leo), but instead showed up a few days later with his crew. Again, without even bothering to give us a courtesy call. Guess what? Marty didn't have enough materials either because he didn't have a clue what he was supposed to be doing. Super Bill was, as always, not around. However, every time he was reached by phone, he told one lie after another to either me or the contractor while I was standing there. These guys are bad news.

This is Leo Knese, Co-Owner of EBS. First of all I never speak poorly of a client so this response is merely a statement of facts. I do not lie, I am extremely trustworty and professional. I am sorry this client feels this way, we never want any of our clients to feel they have not received our best. This client signed a contract on 8-31-11. At that time we were telling clients that our backlog to install roofs was 6-7 weeks (due to 2 tornados and a large hail storm last year). This is why the client did not hear anything in 2 weeks. After our estimator left EBS I contacted this client just to go over the contract to ensure everyone was on the same page. After meeting with the client the contract they signed on 8-31-11 stood as was originally written since everything was in the contract that they wanted done. Since I had a copy of this contract I did know what our estimator had agreed to. All of our crews always have a written work order specifying what work needs to be done on each and every job. Our crew did know what needed to be done and did it in a manner that was professional and thorough. Also, our Hispanic crews always have a minimum of 2 installers that speak fluent English. I signed an agreement for this client that stated we would not have any illegal aliens work or set foot on their property. This seperate agreement also allowed for the client to request right to work paperwork from any of our installers. The client never asked. All of our installers are either U.S. citizens or are in this country legally with the right to work. They pay taxes just as you and I do. This was never supposed to be a 1 day job due to the size and very steep pitch of the roof. We never schedule or tell anyone that we are going to schedule gutters/facia or any other work on the same day as the roof work. There would be just too much going on and would present a safety issue. Bill is our production manager. Bill is very professional and honest with everyone. I have never had anyone else accuse Bill of lying to them. Estimaters are called that because nobody bidding a project like this can come down to the exact and precise amount of material needed to complete a job. Sometimes you have material left over and sometimes we do have to pick up additional material. If we did not call ahead of time to schedule the work that was an oversight as it is our standard procedure to call ahead of time. As everyone can see from the rest of our reports on Angie's List we take extreme measures to ensure all of our clients are happy. Do we make mistakes? Sure we occasionally do like everyone else, but we stand behind our work 100% of the time. In wrapping up, when I met with this client before any of the work started I gave them my business card with my cell# on it and told them if they needed anything to please call me. If these problems occurred why didn't they call me? Thank you, Leo Knese.

The process started a little rough, but the smooth ending more than made up for the bump. I contacted 3 roofing companies after suspecting I had roof storm damage. 2 of the 3 came in with bids in the $7500-8000 range, but EBS (this company) originally gave me a bid over $10,500. I was stunned by the bid, but the consistently strong Angie's List reviews for this company made me want to try to figure out what happened. I called one of the co-owners (Leo) directly and told him the situation - he was very surprised and also wanted to find out the problem. Turns out I had a newbie salesman who simply messed up the bid. This incident is the only reason I gave them a B on price. But Leo went way above and beyond to try to get my business after I called him. He was at my house on my roof himself within 24 hours and came in with this bid of $7910, including the ridge vents and architectural shingles. He brought samples of products and a contract to my workplace, as I was preparing to leave town in 2 days and couldn't afford time away from work. He walked through the products with me, then made it possible for me to sign and put down a deposit before I left town, then letting me contact him with my final shingle selection decision while still having me on the schedule. I did have to wait about 4-5 weeks for the work, as St. Louis area roofers were busy, and the unbearable summer heat slowed down work, but they were at my house, as promised, within 5 weeks. He knew I was about to do screened porch reconstruction and was willing to come back to do that portion of the roof if I needed it, which it turned out I didn't. His job foreman gave me his cell number and was always accessible to me by phone, as I was not on site while the work was taking place (again, during the work day).Their crew was at my house at the crack of dawn during the 2 days they worked, and they worked VERY hard even during the continued heat (as confirmed by my neighbors). They left absolutely no mess or landscape damage. The only glitch was that they put my cupola (on my garage) back on backward (I could tell by the weathervane), but when I called the foreman, he had it taken care of within a few days, no hassle. The architectural shingles look great, and I appreciate having the ridge vents as opposed to the old-style vents I had previously. My insurance company took my signed contract as sufficient documentation and got partial damage checks to me before the work began. I would recommend this company to others. With the number of disreputable roofers out there, it's really important to be able to choose someone who does quality, warrantied work as promised, with responsiveness and a company history (so that they will hopefully be around for you in the future). EBS fits the bill.

This is a difficult review to write. Leo was extremely responsive to my initial contact, we set an appt. time, and he & a colleague came out.they were extremely thorough, spent quite a bit of time on the roof, and outlined a quote at that time. However, when the work began there were problems. The subcontractor was having crew difficulties, people not showing up or quitting. The job was supposed to take 2 days but lasted 6. On Saturday, we had to phone the office answering service because the crew was not here by noon, altho we were told they would be here by 9. Sunday was clean up day. I will say the subcontractor and his son, who were faithfully here, worked very hard. One evening they were trying to make up time and were will still working after dark. I went out to ask them to come down, both for their safety and also I wondered as to the quality they could provide after dark. I did not like how the premises were left each day- there were usually cups and plastic bottles tossed on the driveway and lawn. The subcontractor brought his family to clean up on Sunday- they tried to be very meticulous and did spend quite a bit of time. My final bill arrived today. I was told by a supervisor perhaps? that I would receive the lien papers( they did come with the bill) and that the job would be inspected( it wasn't). All this being said, the difficult part is that i could not get anyone else to come bid the job. I contacted only companies that are repeatedly very highly rated on angle's list. 2 called but never came out, the 3rd finally did come out after a few calls on my part. Both bids were similar. If there is a bad economy, you certainly can't tell it in the roofing industry! The initial up front that Leo handled was outstanding, the follow through not as well done. I don't think I would use them again, but from my experience I don't know who I would. Perhaps in this industry, angie's list is not the best referral source.

Had a little problem getting a response to a request for a bid. Found out later it was due to employee not following up. Co-Owner Anthony Grossman got back with me by phone. Came out and gave me estimate for the above work. Also discussed some other issues and he was honest enough to tell me that other work really wasn't needed. Being on a limited income I appreciated that advice. My problem started with storm damage from a tree planted too close to an addition on the back of the house. As the tree grew it branched out and become much too close. Consequently when storm came it batted against and damaged the gutter along this addition. Also one of the branches overhanging the addition did damage to the roof shingles. Rubbed them down. And part of the soffit on the edge just disappeared. Never could find it. Anthony replaced the whole gutter with a seamless one. (Old gutter was in three separate pieces.) Seamless looked so much better. This was done quickly, so much so that one day I came home and it was done! Anthony then came out later on himself and finished up the roof shingle replacement. Matched the old shingles very nicely. Was a hot day and he did a great job. He also replaced the soffit with material I had on hand. All old gutter and shingles were cleaned up and taken away. Nice clean up job. Also received a One Year Warranty on workmanship. Thanks Anthony for taking the time to follow up and get this work done for me!

EBS was so responsive to our small projects. They made sure that someone came out quickly to fix the facia so it would not get worse with the continued forecast for storms and wind. I was really impressed by this. Further, Anthony came to fix our roofing for the ice-damming himself to make sure we did not wait too long for that repair. What impressed me the most was that he was concerned with damaging a large tree we have in our landscaping, so much so that he went above and beyond good customer service to make sure the tree was tied back out of the way of his equipment to minimize the damage. The repair was completed, the work area cleaned up, and no damage to our tree. EBS really puts their customers' needs first. A very professional business, and I will be calling them again for roofing work.
Description of Work: EBS replaced the vinyl facia on our highest gable which had blown off in the spring winds. While they were here providing the estimate for that, I discussed an ice damming problem we have had over several winters. Anthony took a look at our roof and gutters at that spot and suggested the best fix for us. His estimate to do both projects was less than a competitors quote to just replace the facia. We hired EBS for both projects.

We had an extremely positive experience. We called EBS at first thinking we needed a repair. Anthony was prepared to repair the roof, but was candid that our roof was of terrible quality and we were just sticking our finger in a crack in the dam. Anthony gave an incredibly competitive bid, and was very patient with all of our questions. In fact, even knowing I was seeking other bids, Anthony answered my phone call every time I had a question about someone else's bid. In the end, we hired EBS, which was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. But Anthony spotted things the other guys overlooked or wanted to charge extra for. When the day arrived, the crew, led by foreman Jose, was professional, courteous, neat and friendly. They came back the next day to clean up (a Saturday of a holiday weekend), and then Jose returned one week later to put a few finishing touches on the project. Anthony came out on a Saturday once again to inspect the work for himself - again, the attention to detail is impressive. We didn't expect to have to replace our roof any time soon, but our experience with EBS made it easy. We have already personally recommended EBS to other clients.

Tony came out and climbed our roof. We already had an insurance approval for replacement of roof and gutters and he basically said they'd do it for price on the insurance estimate. I asked for a written estimate and he wrote out a brief quote stating they'd do the work for the price provided by the insurance company. Other companies actually did the measuraements and provided a quote based on their costs - though I can't say this alone eliminated them in my mind. What surprised me was that this was the only company to strongly warn me against putting in ridge vents. All my neighbors have had them installed and every other company was recommending them. When I asked Tony to explain why he didn't want to put in ridge vents, I really didn't find his explanation very valid. I'm not an HVAC engineer, but I am a somewhat logical person and I could get over that he was trying to explain to me that putting an opening across the top of our house would actually trap heat in rather than let it escape. When I continued to press for how that could be, he didn't really seem to be able to explain it. It was if someone told him to tell the customer that ridge vents trap the air in your attic but no one had ever asked to really understand why that would be. After i persisted for a better explanation, he told me to look it up on the internet - that there's all sorts of information on the internet about how ridge vents don't work right. Well I can't find that information - I "googled" ridge vent problems, ridge vents, reviews on ridge vents, and a number of other search terms I coujld think of and didn't find anything to disaude me using them. I just dont' get why they wouldn't want to put them - and certainly didn't get an adequate explanation to convince me that Tony had the knowledge to trust a 17k roof and gutter job to.
Description of Work: He came out to give me estimates. FOR SOME REASON - ANGIE'S LIST BLACKED OUT THE BELOW COMMENTS IN THE BOX THEY ACTUALLY BELONG IN - TO WHICH THE CONTRACTOR RESPONDED - I HAVE COPIED THE COMMENTS HERE UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ANGIE'S LIST FIXES WHATEVER CAUSED THAT TO BE BLACKED OUT. I NOTICED THIS WHEN I CAME TO THE REPORT TO UPDATE THAT AS OF ALMOST TWO MONTHS AFTER THESE COMMENTS, THE BUILDER NEVER ATTEMPTED TO CALL ME AS HE'S INDICATED - SINCE THEN MY ROOF HAS BEEN BUILT BY BONE DRY ROOFING AND I''M VERY PLEASED & WITH A RIDGE VENT. Here are my oriiginal comments for your consideration: Tony came out and climbed our roof. First of all, I will personally call this member tomorrow and apologize to him for what transpired. This is NOT how we treat our clients or potential clients. While we will perform the work on an insurance claim for the price the insurance carrier pays, we will also provide an estimate to clients who request one. Tony is new with our company and while we believed we had adequately trained Tony, obviously some things were not retained and Tony will be pulled in for additional training. Again my apologies will be conveyed to this member.

Process was very professional. Sales person came to the house, took photos of the roof and trouble spots to confirm we needed a new roof, then briefed us on options including clever new roof vents with eave air intakes to provide attic ventilation. Their bid was in the middle of two others, but their thoroughness and attention to detail was what convinced us to go with EBS. We expected the work to take 2.5 to 3 days...actually did it in a day and a half. Work crew was courteous, quiet, and attentive to the shrubs. Clean up was outstanding with a couple of follow ups to ensure they got all the nails and trash. All in all a very satisfying experience. And the roof vents really work...we can tell the difference: on hot days the a/c doesn't run constantly like it used to and the upstairs is noticibly cooler. Thanks EBS

After the tech finished, we paid him by check before he left. We were surprised a few days later, to receive an invoice detailing the service was paid in full, with a lien release attached. I was not notified during the phone call, to schedule the appointment, that the business (as standard operating procedure) places a "lien" on the job, in conjunction with scheduling a service appointment. I would understand, if I was notified and, if the work to be completed was a large job with a high bid. So many times clerical errors are made and go unnoticed. And "liens" are placed on homes, and no one is aware until either a credit check is done, or a title search is done, when the home sells. It is hard enough that we as consumers have to deal with a multitude of problems, like identity theft, over charges, wrongful billing, high interest rates etc, that this is one less issue, I don't think consumers should be forced to deal with! *That is why I gave a "B" grade for overall experience.
Description of Work: We have been having drain problems with our gutters. I decided to give Exterior Bldg Solutions a call to see when they could come out and take a look. The day I called EBS, they had someone working in the area & asked if I minded if they dropped by our house, on their way home. At the end of the day, not only did they come to our house, but they fixed the problem. Our home is a two story, so I was surprised they were willing to get on the roof and check the gutters, after all the rain. Apparently, the previous gutter business (from last year) cleaned out the opening in the gutters, but didn't follow up by checking the downspouts. All the downspouts were packed, not only with leaves but softballs. In one down spout, the softball had been stuck in there so long, it had partially decomposed. He guessed the ball was in there for over 2 years! The tech took the time to check all of the downspouts and clear them. It's the first time, since we purchased the home over 5 years ago, all of our gutters and downspouts are working!! We were very happy with the service.

Response from Exterior Building Solutions
I'ts unfortunate that this member thought our sending a lien waiver upon completion of work and payment was a threat to place a lien on her home. I called this member and explained that this waiver is sent to all our customers as protection for them so a paid service can never be the cause of a lien beng placed on their home. I am sorry this member felt we were treating her as if she were not going to pay for the work we provided her.

From the initial call to completion, I was very pleased with the service. The woman in the office was very friendly and I felt confident from the start I would get good service. Someone came out quickly and looked at the problem, both inside and out. The bid came in $100 lower than another estimate I received (plus they offered an Angie's List discount). The workers came out the next week and, in fact, worked in the evening to get the job done. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I had a poorly installed bathroom skylight that had leaked and damaged my ceiling. They re-installed it properly, replaced shingles and damaged plywood.

Mr. Grossman was able to make the repairs on the same day that he came out to give an estimate. He explained where the water was coming in and provided a 1 year warranty.
Description of Work: Loose shingles were sealed down and a leak that was letting water in around the chimney was repaired.
