Description of Work: An energy audit was performed using an infra-red device to find areas where air was coming in or leaking out of the house. The blown-in insulation in the attic was adequate. Heated or Cooled air was leaking out from the top plates of our walls [interior walls meet attic]. Spray foam insulation was applied in the attic to correct this & to seal the air returns. The ceiling fans, electrical junction boxes, recessed lights & plumbing/flue chases were sealed with spray foam or foam board. Also, 2" of closed cell spray foam sealed the rim joint area in the basement [floor joists rest on foundation] to R-13 level. Nine recessed can lights were replaced with Energy Star LED retrofit recessed lights since there was no access to attic above a room addition to seal off air leaking in/out through recessed lights. Finally, an old whole-house fan was removed from the ceiling. It was inefficient & lots of air [hot/cold] from the attic leaked into the house. | |The workers were polite & cleaned up when they were finished. They wore booties over their shoes & worked very hard. The attic was extremely hot but they did not complain.

+ -1 moreKelley Markowski was a very proficient and diligent energy auditor. She has very strong communication skills and was available to answer questions after the audit was completed. She was very comfortable with the energy audit equipment and careful getting it inside the house on exit. She was very professional explaining what she was going to do and what it meant. She was very focused on educating me as to what to do to accomplish recommendations. The original audit and follow-up took several hours and Kelley was focused on doing a good audit and not trying to merely finish. She was very flexible about waiting to go to the exit and until I had completed artwork. She was also punctual on both visits. I would use her service again and recommend to friends.
Description of Work: Home energy audit with visual and machine inspections. Recommendations to improve energy efficiency and lower air leaks in written and CD form. Follow-up inspection and testing to evaluate implementation of recommendations. Written exit report.

+ -1 moreGreat Job! We own a 3 story condo/town house built in the late 70's. It was difficult to keep warm in winter and cool in summer. Great variation between the 3 stories. In summer with heat set at 72 on the main floor in was 64 in the lower level and 87 on the third floor. Kellye came in and did a through job, spent more than 4 hours, and gave us both a verbal report and a written one. As result we hired an insulation company which followed her recommendations. We also had some minor adjustments to the HVAC, sped a fan up and put in a less fine filter. The result: 70 in the lower level, 72 on the main level and 77 in the upper level - even on the hottest days. We are very please. Kellye came back and did a retest and provided a follow up report. We are very grateful to her and await winter to see how much more comfortable our home will be. These few cool fall days have already shown a difference.
Description of Work: They throughly went through the energy systems in our home. Use a fan in the door to simulate a 20mph wind on the building and then went through with an infrared camera to show us where we were losing energy. Very graphic and easy to see. Also examined our appliances for function and safety and well as evaluated possibility of carbon monoxide build up in the home. Produced an extensive report with recommendations, both written and on CD with pictures. After we had made some of the adjustments came in and retested our home with another full report provided.

Communication from the start was great and he explained all the tests that were going to be performed, how long it would take, etc. He walked with me throughout the house with the infared camera showing areas of air infiltration and how to correct them. The 23 page report detailing the tests, results, and recommendations for improvements was sent quickly. I couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Performed energy audit on a house I just purchased including blower test, infared camera and visual inspection of the interior of the house. The whole inspection took approximately 4 hours.

Our BPI certified, construction expert, diagnoses air leakage, insulation, gas appliance safety, moisture, lighting, and appliance efficiency. Energy Smart Homes’ detailed report provides our recommendations, preferred contractors, product information and links to rebate and tax incentives specific to your needs. One post-work re-inspection is included to verify results.
Energy Smart Homes does not do remediation work. However we will provide you a list of preferred BPI trained contractors who understand Whole House Performance and are partners in the Energy Star with Home Performance Program under the Missouri Botanical Gardens direction and certified by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources which qualifies you to claim your tax benefits. These programs provide customer quality assurance.
