Description of Work: Replaced a 5 year old corrupted hard drive with a new solid-state hard drive. Removed Windows 10 and reinstalled Windows 7 at my request. Also reinstalled Microsoft Office 10 and a new version of Norton Anti-virus program plus several other programs. Spent a bit of time discussing viruses and malware, and how to avoid these problems.

Description of Work: We used Computer Problem busters a couple of times. Once when our computer had a virus, and another when we were switching from a Mac to a PC and needed to move files with conflicting formats, plus some other jobs I can't recall. They did a great job each and every time and I never felt like they were talking down to me or trying to sell anything unnecessary. As someone who also works in IT related areas, I appreciated not being treated like an imbecile about my personal computer problems. That said, price was always great, turnaround was great as well. Highly recommended.

Please see previous paragraph as to what was done from start to finish. This is a continuation of an earlier review of Computer Problem Busters. Overall, it went well.
Description of Work: This is an updated review of Computer Problem Busters. After I left an unfavorable report on Angie's List earlier this year, I was contacted by Aton and Allon. They wanted to see what they could do to make me happier. They kept my computer for a week or so and tested it for the problems that I complained about. Then they asked me to come in to the shop and use it in just the way that I use it at home so they could observe my problems. All in all, what I learned is that I should have given up on this old 2007 computer and just went ahead and used my new one. While it is working fine for how it is set up, it doesn't have the speed to be able to use it to work (I work from home). It has been upgraded as much as it can be but it still is not fast. So the promise of getting it to work "like it did when it was new" more involves the programs (Yahoo) than it does the machine. In their defense, I was personally in a place where I could not come to their shop at the time (January) due to a surgery and was not in a good place to be making large decisions. Yet I needed to work. I am not knowledgeable about computers and thought that I could fix this one and not get a new one and save myself money. Instead, I spent the money to fix and analyze the old one and also had to spend money on a new one (about the same amount). I made the choice at the time to go ahead and fix it so that is on my shoulders. BUT, I wish that I had just been told that a new one would have served me better with what I do and then I wouldn't have fixed/analyzed the old one. Now I have an extra computer for personal stuff but I don't really use it. However it is a backup in case my new one goes down. Allon DID offer to do some work on my new computer for a discount so, they really do try to make you happy. I appreciated the extra time he spent with me to listen to what I wasn't happy about and watch me work. They are very good at what they do and thorough in their inspection of your computer. I would go back with other computer problems.

Please read above. Overall, not a good experience.
Description of Work: The hard drive was replaced by an extra hard drive that was already in my computer. All my data was tranferred to their server and scrubbed and reloaded on to my computer. This was supposed to make my computer faster....like it was when I got it. It is not any faster and the scrubbing part and reloading was the most expensive part. I had all of my information on a seperate external storage unit and wanted to just use that but was convinced that there could be a virus on my external unit. I wish that I had not done it because it added several hundred dollars to my bill and I did not get a unit that was faster than it was when I turned it in. I ended up having to purchase a new laptop anyway. My pictures didn't even make it on to my computer. Good thing I had saved them myself. All in all it was not worth the investment.

My computer started giving me trouble, running very slowly and doing strange things that indicated to me that there was something wrong. Before we could get mine fixed, my husband's computer began giving him trouble. We took both computers into this company and they took all our files off the computers and put them on their server. They then did a search for the problem. Our computers were brought to our house and hooked up by one of the people from the company. My husband could tell immediately that his was working good. However, I continued to have problems with mine. The computer company had me take the computer, the monitor, the key board, and the mouse back in so they could eliminate each part and find out what was not working right. They could not find anything wrong and we picked it up and they suggested changing the keyboard and mouse in case it was incompatible. My computer still didn't work right and we took it in again. The computer company called and said they had found a problem with the mother board and suggested I buy a new computer. They also said that since I had paid to repair this computer and they were unable to do that, that we should buy the computer and bring it to them. They installed all my files from their server that they still had from my old computer and set the computer up so that it was just about ready to do everything I had on my old computer. They did this at no additional charge. I found them to be friendly, helpful, and professional at all times. I know that if I have any problem with my computer, I can call them and get some help. What they told me is that I could call 100 times and they will still help me. That's terrific.,

When I suspected that my laptop had a virus I called Computer Problem Busters. They explained what they would do and how much they would charge. I took the computer in one day and picked up the computer the next day. They fixed the problem and recommended new virus scan software since the software I had did not block the virus. I had them install the new virus scan software. It is now six months later and I have had no other problems with the laptop. I thought their service charge was a little expensive but that may be unfair on my part, since I have nothing to compare it to. They did explain the charges to me before they did the work and the bill was as they stated on the phone.
Description of Work: My laptop computer had a virus that would not allow me to do anything on the internet. I took it to Computer Problem Busters to get rid of the virus.

One was not worth repairing and they told me. The other one had data on the hard drive. They would've charged me $610 to retrieve it. It was my daughter's laptop. I paid their $65 examination fee to check the laptop. I took it back and recovered the data on the hard drive myself. I think well of them considering what their business arrangement is and what I asked them to do, but certainly not on price considering that I did $610 worth of work for under $100. That price for data recovery is competitive with other shops. It would have been a lot more if they had to send the drive away to be taken apart. Fortunately, that wasn't the case. I felt challenged and I called a friend who knew how to do it. He advised me on which software to use and that's what I did.

We were referred to them by CompuSmile (though we'd also seen on Angie's list.) We had to take computer in but they had it done in a couple of days. It was expensive, but then we did have to replace the hard drive. Dell phone support had said it didn't need replacing, but then the computer kept crashing after we'd followed their instructions

I was having multiple computer problems--booting the computer, pop ups, disabling McAfee, keys sticking. I looked at Angie's List and the BBB and based on reports, took my computer to this company. The man at the company asked very detailed questions about the problems and logged in to the computer to see what I was talking about. The agreement was very detailed. I recieved a call within two days about what needed to be done to repair the computer. I was given options and costs. There was also a need to contact Dell for a replacement and they offered to do this. There was a problem with Dell delivering the keyboard and they called to let me know. But within a day there was another call that the part was in and the computer ready to be picked up. Within 4 days, I had my computer back. They also offered to come and take care of establishing my DSL and installing the printer.

I live in Chicago, but my son attends college in St. Louis. He called me to tell me that his lap top was acting up, so I checked out Angie's List and found Computer Problem Busters. He dropped his lap top off and they said it would be $65 to run some diagnostics. Later that day, they were able to determine that both the hard drive and optical drive were failing. I was told that while they could install new parts, they did not recommend it and gave me some very valid reasons why. Not only did these guys walk away from what could've been a $500 + job for them, the guy that we were working with helped steer me towards a deal on a new lap top he had just seen and they don't even sell lap tops. He was just being nice! (Shocking in this day and age, I know.)

This company was recommended to us by another vendor from Angie's List. We took the tower to Computer Problem Busters. They got back to us with their evaluation within hours. They performed the work very quickly and gave us suggestions as too which firewall program to use in the future. We will consult with them on any future problems and would highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: We were unable to turn on the computer. This company ran a diagnostic test to determine the extent of the problem. We needed to replace the power pack, but we had lost all of our stored data. They were able to replace the power pack, re-install the programs, and retrieve our files.

They were prompt. I brought my laptop in and they told me the problem in less than ten minutes. They were very honest with me and didn't charge me anything. I was very impressed with them. I will go to them if I ever have any more problems.

I took the old drive to Computer Problem Busters. Within a few hours they called to say that they had recovered the data and they placed it back on my computer the next day.
Description of Work: I had taken the computer to Best Buy Geek Squad for maintenance. They reported that I had a bad hard drive and that it needed to be replaced. They were unsuccessful in recovering the data from my old drive.

We were very pleased especially with the cost. The diagnostic test cost $69 which they deduct from the repair if you choose to have it repaired. They were extremely professional. I am very happy to have my computer back and the whole experience was great. I am not very computer savvy and not very familiar with computer terms but they never made me feel stupid.

My computer just shut down while I was working. I had no idea what the problem was. Compusmile referred me to this company, advising that Computer Problem Busters could probably diagnose and repair the problem more quickly and at a lower cost. Computer Problem Busters was able to diagnose and repair the problem very quickly. I dropped my computer off at 6:30pm and it was repaired by 11am the following morning. I appreciated the professional manner of the staff. They were quick to call with the diagnosis, informative about the expense of the repair, and prompt in making the repair.

The operating system would not load. I called and was told to bring my CPU in any time. I did so and was greeted immediately. My computer was connected on a test bench and the problem noted. I was told that there was a standard $65.00 charge for a diagnostic, but that charge would be applied to any work that I agreed to have done. Early the next day I received a call that the hard drive had failed. I agreed to have them replace the hard drive and was told to bring in my software distribution Cd's. I had my computer the next day working perfectly.

I called and was told to bring my laptop in at any time. I was helped within a few minutes of arriving, and left my computer there to be checked. I did have lots of viruses, so they suggested I replace the hard drive and install new anti-virus software. I had my computer back the next day. When I had questions a few days later, they listened patiently on the phone and offered to look at the computer again in their shop. I brought it in again and was helped immediately. They were able to clear up my problem right away and explain it to me (at no charge). I will definitely use them again if I have another problem with my computer.
