It went very well and there was essentially no mess due to their special technique to reduce the dust. They were responsive to all of our concerns. The workers were courteous and when we had a question about a spot post job the came the next day to resolve the issue. I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Kitchen and hall floors sanded and refinished. company used special machine to reduce amount of sanding residue and it was fantastic.. The stain matched perfectly with the adjacent floors.

Sales person was on time and prepared as we had given some info on what we wanted on the initial contact. We used the same flooring on the second job. We were given a general schedule and notified to preplan having the flooring in our house for at least five days before install. There were no surprises in the scheduling; the flooring was delivered exactly when agreed upon and the installers started on schedule (also finished on schedule as well). We were also contacted by Scott a few days later to see if everything was OK. In the future, for any flooring needs, we will be contacting Champion for product/labor estimates without conventional shopping (pick out the product and take pot luck on the labor. I also apologize to Champion for not doing this review sooner.
Description of Work: Actually did two jobs for us, Installed hardwood flooring (nail down with underlayment) in two second floor bedrooms. The first install was so good, we had them back for the second room about four weeks later. I also asked them to come back and do a minor re-stretch of the living room carpet (unbid) and expected a bill a hundred or two. They ended up doing the job gratis. The sales person Scott, defined the jobs in detail, including what we would move out of the rooms and what they would work around. Both jobs went exactly according to plan. I think the price (around $10 per square foot) was reasonable especially since we received a top quality product very professionally installed.

They just finished work last Friday. There was an extra charge for the painting because they don't normally do that. They were absolutely wonderful. I in fact will use them again to do my dining room. They were very responsible. They stuck to their schedule and in fact finished one day early. All the workmen were very polite and professional. I have nothing negative to say about them. I would recommend them in a second.
Description of Work: Champion Floor Co Inc pulled up carpeting, moved furniture, installed new wood in one room and refinished the flooring in another room as well as the hallway. They also did a little bit of painting.

Poorly and we won't use them again. This is a two-part story so use this a guide should you select them as your installer. Initial response was excellent. Owner, Ralph Kuehn personally came on site and was friendly, professional, and quick to provide suggestions and estimates. Likewise, when the work started, the workers knew there jobs although I did have to provide a little oversight when they tried to cut corners or patch a mistake. Below is the final email I sent to Champion Flooring; I think it speaks for itself so I would advise others to beware. The owner did contact me via phone afterwards but it was the same story, a mis-communication that wasn't his problem. Item 6 was addressed including the three sub-points. Champion Flooring was on the higher end of the bids and they went over budget. With repairs to their work, I will be 1.5x over budget. Email to Champion Flooring: I selected Champion Flooring because of your rating on Angie?s List. While normally a reliable source, it is safe to say that my experience was not typical of what was posted by others. To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. Monday?s visit by Ralph felt more like a blame assessment than an owner trying to satisfy the customer. I was expecting a solution, not to accept something I didn?t like. Trying to lay blame because ?base shoe? was in the estimate is like me telling you that ?PE R610 Rack Bezel? is needed for your office server; they are terms identifiable only within the specialty of that industry. My expectation was for a finished product that looked like the product already installed, just a different color. What I got was a sloppy shortcut that will cost me considerably more to hide the lack of craftsmanship. Not including staining the steps was a mystery as well. Was it really the company?s expectation to install new flooring and steps and just leave them bare? I am certainly glad Glen pointed that out to me and I had the budget to approve the quote provided by Susan. I felt strong-armed by Ralph during his visit and just have too much on my plate to argue the many points of quality work and the customer always being right. From my perspective, I treated your company professionally and politely; responding quickly to emails and phone calls, paid promptly, and was generous to your staff, supplying them breakfast once and a hearty lunch every day, cash to your sanders to buy lunch, and unlimited beverages. I helped clean, sweep, carry out trash, supply cleaning equipment (why someone shows up with one trash bag and no dustpan is perplexing) and generally made sure the guys had whatever they needed to get the work done as efficiently as possible. In return, I see a company less caring about its customers and more focused on per job profit margins. I got short changed and unless I am willing to invest far more than the project cost to fight the point, I have what I have and can only post my results so others are aware of my experience with Champion Flooring. With few options left other than let your company finish the remaining work so I can pay someone to come back and fix it, here are few things you should consider going forward: If you tell a customer when you are going to be somewhere, be there! Recall my delivery was ?the first one of the day? with a window of 8 ? 10. We were expecting 8:00 so when they finally arrived at 10:45, the person I had waiting had to make other arrangements. It was a bad first impression The job was supposed to start on Thursday, Dec 8 but had to be delayed because another job was running over. If the customer is expected to assist in moving, disassembling, and reassembling furniture, it might be best to tell them up front. Just because I work from home doesn?t mean I am not working and available to do manual labor. While customers expect some level of inconvenience, having to sleep on the sofa downstairs for a week wasn?t in my playbook. It might have been slightly helpful to explain this and perhaps offer alternatives. It also didn?t help that after the floor was installed another week passed before the trim workers are expected to arrive. That leaves the customer living with everything piled in the center of the floor. Be professional about your arrival / departure times. Glen?s hours varied daily so I was never sure when he was going to arrive or leave. Jeremy was here right on time and often worked late. Kudos to him for not only working long, hard hours but asking permission before doing so. Same for Amir who actually called me every day to tell me when I could expect him. Glen informed me on Wednesday they would need to work Saturday. On Thursday he said Dennis had not confirmed if they would be work Saturday. Friday afternoon I asked again and Glen said that Dennis still hadn?t decided. At that point I made the decision and said no after having put my weekend plans on hold for three days. Safety ? On Monday the guys set off the fire alarm due to dust. It went on for an hour before I was able to shut them down, greatly interrupting my work and causing me to work late into the evening. Glen was emotionally upset by the noise and had to leave early. The solution, cover all the smoke and fire detectors in plastic which was sensible at the time. However, the work team left and over the weekend they remain covered even today, leaving a deadly situation if a fire started (lots of Christmas lights this time of year). I did give them permission to leave them taped overnight but expected them to be removed when they finished cutting. Work left unfinished or status unknown: Trim at top of stairs still missing. Broken drywall not repaired. Glen said the sanders would fix it, the Sanders said someone else will fix it. Tape on ceiling, smoke detector disabled, others remain taped shut (see Item 5). My advice if you use them: Have them describe in detail EXACTLY WHAT THE END PRODUCT WILL LOOK LIKE. Any "savings" they offer will likely come from shortcuts that will take away from the quality and appearance you thought you were paying for. As for me, it was a painful, embarrassing situation and I hope that others won't have to go through a similar experience.

Professional customer service. I would recommend them based on the interaction with the company, but unfortunately cannot speak to their work as we had to go with another company.

A friend had recommended them. They showed up as planned. They were pleasant and respectful of the house. They showed their plan. It was a lot of things actually. They were good all around. The salesperson that I had, Scott Bernstein, was excellent. There are other providers who are cheaper out there.

Ralph, the owner, came to the house for the estimate. Very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time measuring and getting an exact scope for the project. Upon acceptance of the contract, work began about two weeks later. Cory, who installed new subfloor in the hallways (we had some out-of-level floors) and the new wood flooring was at the house for 2 1/2 days and was awesome. Great guy, very concerned about making sure the floor looked how we wanted, and super at his craft. Two days later the sanding and refinishing crew arrived, also very good at what they do, and finished the job in another three days. They had an especially difficult task working in the kitchen, where they had to sand through thinset (previously tile in the kitchen) and fill many holes from the cement board nails - but the end result was excellent. The Atomic Sanding System (99% dustless) was a worthwhile investment, but still expect a lot of dust. Also, if I had it to do all over again I'd put up plastic between rooms to minimize the dust getting throughout the house. Just plan to stay out of the house during their work if you can arrange it and expect a thorough cleaning will be necessary after it's finished. My only complaint was on the final installation of the shoe moulding. We had many different levels of baseboard (from the previous tile and laminate and many transitions) and we should have corrected that problem before we had them try to install the shoe moulding. The guy who installed the shoe moulding did a good job, but the baseboards were generally in such poor shape that we should have corrected that problem first. We have a lot of unfinished corners and trim pieces that we need to go back and correct. (Baseboards weren't part of the contract, so I don't fault Champion for the result. At most, I wish the installer had warned that it wasn't going to look "finished" after he was complete. I should have simply had the baseboards corrected first - lesson learned.) Overall, the floors were in awful shape and they made them look nearly good as new. The cost was marginally higher than some other estimates, but you get what you pay for - and a little more upfront was well worth the great result. I would not hesitate to go with Champion Floor again for hardwood floors and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: 1) Install new subfloor and new wood flooring in two hallways & closet (~125sqft) Lace-in new floor to existing wood floor. 2) Sand, stain and finish existing wood floor (~800sqft). Finish with waterbase sealer and two coats of waterbase finish. 3) Use 99% dust free atomic sanding system to minimize dust. 4) Install, sand and finish three flush mount wood vents. 5) Paint and install shoe moulding.

The workers from Champion Floor Co. Inc. did an excellent job. They came when they were supposed to. Unfortunately, my husband had instructed them to leave a window open and then turned on the sprinkler. My husband got the floor wet where they had just finished it so they had to come back and fix it again. Of course I was charged for it which I should have been. I thought that their price was reasonable. They also gave me a 10% Angie’s list discount. They did the job in a timely manner. The dust was minimal and the rest of my house wasn’t messed up. They finished their job quickly enough so that my routine work wasn’t disrupted. They were always on time. They were very professional. They did a good job. I would use them again in the future.

The hardwood flooring in our home we recently purchased had stains, most likely pet stains, which we wanted removed. We were going to be out-of-town for a few days and left a key for them to refinish the floors. After they sanded the floors, they left some stain color samples and put some stain on the floor for us to choose. I choose a stain which covered the pet stains. I pointed and chose the stain color I wanted, and left a note for the service men. When they returned, I don't think they saw my note. They sanded the sample stain colors off, and then applied a stain (not sure if they used the color we chose to hide the stains) and sealed in the work. When we returned to the house, we noticed the pet stains were not covered. The work and job they did was top notch, but what really bothered me was the fact that the pet stains were not covered. I called them back and asked why they finished the floor without covering the pet stains. He was unapologetic and demanded payment. The salesman's attitude was less than professional. I told him I wouldn't pay him until he came to my home and saw the work. He insisted that he didn't guarantee anything and it was my problem. The salesman did come to my home to see the work, however I ended up paying the full price and ultimately was disappointed in the service. I never received an apology and expected a better response from the salesman.

Response from Champion Floor Co
To begin with, I am Ralph Kuehn, the owner of Champion Floor and was the salesman for this project. It is regretful that I left such a negative feeling with the member and called to express my apologies when I received this report. I am also surprised and disappointed to learn about this more than 2-1/2 years after the work was pronounced satisfactory. I would certainly have addressed any issues immediately; had I been made aware. Before the project was started the customer was informed that the urine stains cannot be hidden by staining over them nor would sanding remove them. At the customer's request we tried to bleach out the stains which added days to the job but which also did not remove the stains, (and for which we did not charge extra). The common solution is to remove the offending boards; obviously there would have been additional costs involved. We are passionate and dedicated to superior customer service. I hope that you will consider our many years of positive reports as you make your purchase decision. Thank you for your time and consideration. Ralph Kuehn, Owner

It was not the cheapest bid I received, but it was the most detailed and comprehensive. I knew exactly what was going to be done and how long it would take. They did not try to sell me additional services I didn't need. Ralph, the estimator, was by far the most courteous and professional of all bidders. I had a very tight schedule, which they met successfully. A full crew came when they said they would, worked late and even on a weekend to finish on time, and the quality of workmanship was superb. I will definitely use them again, and would not hesitate to recommend their work.

The company was very response from the start. The individual who came out for an estimate was thorough and gave various options for completion of the project--this included how to store and/or move furniture while the rooms were being completed. They were very accommodating and created a two-stage project so we did not have to remove the furniture from the house. When the job was started they were prompt and stayed ahead of their timeline. We were consulted every step of the way and are very pleased with the results.

Decided to do a "less than extreme makeover" of my fathers house for his birthday. This meant new furniture, refinished floors, and new paint on the walls. Researched Angie's list for appropriate talent in the St. Louis area, as we lived out of town. Found Champion Floors, and contacted them via email for more information. After the exchange of information including floor plans and a site visit, we received what we felt to be a competitive and flexible quote. We made the deposit and set a schedule. The schedule was tight in that it allowed for all the furniture to be moved on the weekend before Easter, the flooring to be refinished in the first part of the week, the painting to follow, and the furniture returned to the house before Easter Sunday. A lot rested on the quote and timing from Champion. I explained it to the owners, and they and their crew did not let me down. We did our part to prepare the house as best we could, and kept in touch with the refinishing crew throughout the process. We were delighted with the results. We would use Champion again and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Sanded, stained, and refinished floors in small 50's style ranch home, including three bedrooms, hallway, and living room. House had been stripped of furniture, and most of the former carpeting nail rails. Champion's crew came through the house, examined all the area to ensure no residual nails were left, and began the restoration process. The floors had been sealed over 18 years before with a gym seal, and needed to be sanded back to the wood. The red oak floors sanded beautifully, and with a light stain, and satin finish, the results were spectacular. Using a vacuum assisted, dust free sander, the crew sanded and stained the floor in one day, and then came back the following days to apply the three coats of satin finish. The team lead kept us informed every step of the way, and the final results exceeded our expectations.

We would have done it but it required moving two rooms of bedroom furniture and it would have been back breaking work for the two of us. It was also a time factor because we would have to be out of our house for a few days. The man was really nice and fair. We would have wanted him to do the work if he had somebody to move the furniture out. We would have paid extra to have somebody move it. The floors would have been beautiful. He was very professional and he came right out.
Description of Work: We got an estimate from Champion Floor to refinish and stain the floors in two bedrooms. He would have also stained them again.
