Andres gave us a bid on our roof job which was competitive with other reputable companies. The final cost was exactly what they had quoted on the bid, no hidden costs or surprises. They offered a variety of shingle and gutter colors, and were happy to bring me samples to choose from. They were prompt and efficient, finishing the roof in two days (due to rain on the first day) and the gutters in one afternoon. I am very pleased with their work. All the workers were pleasant and polite; no loud music or rough language. They were always willing to answer questions and work with us on every detail. There was nothing they did that was less than excellent and we recommend them highly and would use them again.

They did a very professional job and were very honest. I felt he gave us our money’s worth. When they took our old roof off, they found a rotten board in our roof and they replaced that; so I felt like they did a really good job. The workers were excellent. I would recommend them and would use them again in the future.

We have used them in the past. They had such good prices and we were very confident. The work was fine. They were able to repair the roof damage from the tornado which took off portions of some shingles and some of them were bent back. We had a water issue inside which was totally unrelated with him. We decided to put a vent from the bathroom fan outside, to go through the roof. When we were putting the vent, we noticed that there was water damage. He worked on both together and put the connection to solve the problems. He saved us from more water damage and we realized why it happened. He solved our problems. They don't sell you more than what you need.
Description of Work: Andre Roofing of Des Peres came out and did the damaged work on our roof end of March. They also did skylights repair and put in some vents on two houses.

The job went very well. Russell was good to explain and show me the issues. This leak had been a perennial problem in my home ( It rained heavily shortly after this work was done with no leaks).
Description of Work: Russell came to my home after another employee had given me an estimate to repair the junction of the roof and chimney which had been leaking. Russell explored the area around the chimney, showing me each step. He did the following: 1. Removed existing shingles and all flashing and counter- flashing from around chimney and front of the house. 2. Applied ice and water underlayment . 3. Re-shingled area using new matching shingles to current shingles. 4.Installed over-sized 4X4X12 step flashing 5. Ground new mortar joints and installed new counter-flashing. 6. Sealed all with FSO Quad-clear silicone. The resulting bill was higher than the estimate due to the additional work done on the chimney. I approved this process.

We never sub out our work and sacrifice our quality. Thank you for your response. John Andres

After a nasty midwest winter I noticed in Jan or Feb that the spot was leaking again in EXACTLY the SAME location. I called them back. Despite the fact the leak was in the exact same location and despite the fact upon inspection the roofer was able to see that the patch had buckled he told me that the leak was actually coming from a different location 2 feet or so down slope from the previous patch. (A leak in that location would have been dripped into the adjacent room). They patched that spot as well and charged me an additional $75.00 Additional prior to call for roofing repair I had used a wet patch to stop the leak until I could get it repaired. This wet patch is an oily, tar like substance.. After the initial repair and during the winter the residue from the wetpatch oozed down my siding. Easy enough to clean up. HOWEVER Andres roofing mentioned the stains on the siding and insisted it was a result of water damage. I am glad I am a hands on person familiar with my home repairs.

I just read this report. I do not think it is representative of what happened and believe it is a very unfair report. This is what happened: Member had a leak in her flat roof. I met her at her house in a punctual manner to check where it was leaking on the inside then I determined that spot repairs would take care of the leaks. She approved the repairs and we did them soon after in a timely manner back on June 26th. Around the 2nd week of February she called and said it was coming in again in the same spot. I made it over there soon after and checked the leak again on the inside to confirm. I checked our patch and it looked good but I thought maybe it made it in on one tiny edge that was up just a bit so I had our same roofer, Rob, that had completed the original repair come back and re-torch down some material around the original patch. Rob, 20 yrs. roofing experience and our flat roof expert, told me it was not coming through his original patch but was coming in just below on a seam where the roof steps down. This was the seam that Member had done with the wet patch (see her comments). Her wet patch that had looked fine when we did the original repair had not held through the winter so Rob repaired that area as well. That is why it was an extra $75. Our patch did not leak, it was Member's patch that had leaked and we fixed that. The stains on her siding down by the gutter (15 ft. down from the area we worked) were not from our work. I mentioned these stains to Member when I had gone back out there a 2nd time but they were not due to the repairs we had done. They may have been due to her wet patch mixing with water. I don't know. In my opinion we should of received an Overall A. Price- A, we repaired at a reasonable price and only charged $75 to do more work to fix the leak. Quality- A, we had a great roofer install a good torch down modified bitumen material in exactly where we said we would Responsiveness- A, I made sure to check the leaks quickly and repair soon after both times. Punctuality- A, the 2nd time around I had gotten there a day later than I said but made sure to do the repairs before the next rain day. Everything was taken care of within a week of when she called. Professionalism- B, I responded quickly the 2nd time but I did not communicate as well as I should have. I should have called and explained that it was not our original patch that failed but her patch job. I take my job very seriously and always aim to please the customer. I was surprised by this report. I had no idea she was so upset. I wish she would of called me to talk about it then maybe I would not of received this unfair report. However I learned from this and in the future will communicate more effectively and timely. Thank you for allowing me this response. John Andres, Andres Roofing Co.

Very well! I contacted Andres Roofing in October requesting a bid that included repair a flat roof over the sunroom and a complete roof replacement including a roof vent. Of the three bids, I accepted the Andres bid and was added their schedule. John Andres contacted me when he was ready to do the work, orginally set for Nov. 29, however due to a rain delay, the work was done on Dec. 1. Part of the coordination was the cupola needed to be removed, painted by my son and reinstalled. All the work was completed in a day. Also, after signing the contract I discovered a coupon in the Angies List newsletter and John accepted the $300 coupon discount.

Wonderful job. Have read other recent reports and our experience the same--professional, on time and our roof looks great. John coordinated job wtih painting and gutter installation and it went smoothly. After the job there was a mark on one of the gutters. I called John and the next day a guy was on a ladder cleaning it off. The company takes extreme pride in their work. We are extremely happy and highly recommend this company.

Thank you for the positive report. Since the homeowners already had a painter lined up to paint the house before we could do the roof we removed the gutters, then they had the house painted. To protect the paint job we had the gutters installed before we did the roof. We tried to protect the new gutters and paint job during the 2 layer tear off with boards and jacks but we unfortunately made a mark on the gutter that we did not notice. I was happy the Linsin's called so we could clean off the mark on the gutter. It is very important to us to know the customer is very happy with everything.

Overall my experience with Andres Roofing was very good. I got an initial estimate from them as well as probably 7 other companies to put a new roof on my house. Their bid was among the lowest for their boilerplate estimate, but what was odd about Andres is their charge to upgrade from standard shingles to architectural shingles was much smaller than all the other companies, so once we decided on that type of shingle they were the cheapest bid. I went back and forth with the owner? via email asking alot of questions and nailing down all the extras I wanted, such as extra ice & water barrier instead of felt in places, new flashing and a ridge vent. I liked all the quotes and went with the extras except for the one for a synthetic underlayment instead of the standard felt. The quote for that added $500 over felt so I said forget it. I'm guessing he just didn't want to use it because the quote seemed pretty high. We emailed back and forth over the fall and by the time we decided on everything it was too cold to schedule anything right then. He said what they do is just watch the weather and if they have a window of opportunity where the temp is above 40 for a couple days they'll schedule the job. I was a little nervous about doing a job in the winter since I know it's not recommended but John said they do it all the time and only work when it's warm enough for good shingle bonding. So we waited a month or so and then all of the sudden he called and said they could do my house in two days if I wanted, so I went for it. The job went great and I didn't have any complaints. It was a little scary with all the trucks and workers descending on your house like like that but they seemed to be organized with people and deliveries coming and going throughout the project. I wasn't asked to pay until the work was completed, which was good. I also liked the small business feel of the company versus the big companies that do all the advertising and have armies of salespeople. I think that's a big part of how they keep their costs down. Also the workers all or nearly all appeared to be legal American citizens. One company we got a bid from actually bragged about how they use all non-English speaking workers, like that would be a good selling point.

Thanks for the positive report. I am always interested in these reports so I can learn about what was important to the homeowner and help make Andres Roofing a better company. Like many of our customers, this Angie's List member wanted the best products and the best workmanship for the best price. We always want the homeowner to choose the 30 yr. architectural shingle over the basic 3 tab 25 yr. shingle because of the superior quality and looks. Since we have all our own local roofers and we pay them by the hour we can offer the architectural shingle for not much more than the 25 yr. 3 tab shingle due to the fact that they are easier to install. We make up the difference in material price with a decreased labor price. I was also happy to hear that this homeowner was happy we have local roofers (many of our roofers have worked for us for many years) as opposed to many companies that sub out their work to foreign crews. When you use Andres Roofing you support the local economy.

Jon Andres is very professional and attentive to details. The bid/estimate process was quick and fair (mid-range bid but we felt they were the best choice). Once scheduled, they called in advance to tell us when they would like to start and showed up promptly. Took one extra day to complete the job, but they cleaned up the job site and covered the roof with felt before calling it a day. After installation, Jon personally came back to do a final inspection. The gutters were sub-ed out, and the subcontractor was excellent. We are extremely happy with the quality of workmanship and the communication with both the gutter sub and Andres roofing.

It was great working with the members. I thought we would be able to finish the job in one day but it had torn off bad/slow with the 1x8 roof deck and we were a little short on manpower (one of our roofers was sick). We made sure everything was watertight with the heavier weight underlayment (30 pound felt) and finished it up the next day. I was pleased with the way the architectural shingle added to the look of the house. I am responding to this report because I just realized I could and wanted to express my gratitude for having Andres Roofing do the work. Thanks, John Andres, Andres Roofing Co.

I was very satisfied with the job from start to finish. I had prepared a detailed checklist of concerns I had, prior to contacting the 5 Angie's List contractors from whom we obtained bids. Four of the five came over to our house for my extensive individual "interviews." All were very helpful during this process and spent at least an hour looking over the house and explaining what process they would follow in response to my concerns. It was hard to make a decision between them, because I had the sense they would all have done a superior job, and the bids were quite comparable in price. In the end, we selected Andres because of their extensive roofing work over the years, their stellar record as reported on Angie's list, the fact that the workers were their own employees instead of subcontractors, their inclusion in the contract of the specific ways my concerns would be addressed, the environmentally-friendly option of having shingles recycled instead of merely dumped at a landfill, and the impressive website that provided helpful information about the company and its history. We were not in a hurry to get the job done, and John Andres had made it clear that they would do it only if the weather was favorable. The large (approx. 10) crew arrived at about 6:45 A.M. the morning the work was scheduled and John introduced me to Joe, who would be the crew chief and person to talk to if I had concerns along the way. In talking to Joe it became clear that John had thoroughly briefed him about my concerns so we were on the same wave-length. John also stayed for several hours, himself, and helped tear off the existing roof. A truck was parked on one side of the house in the driveway during the tear-off process, and the small side-yard between our house and the neighboring house was covered with tarps, which made the cleanup a lot easier later on. At the end of the first day (at about 4:30--it had heated up substantially at that time) the tear-off was complete, flashing and felt work was completely done, and approximately one-half of the house shingles were on and all the garage shingles. The site was also cleaned thoroughly even though the work would have to be finished the following day. About 8:00 A.M. the next morning, John, Joe, and one of their best workers came to complete the job. They did that in short order, finishing the work by about noon. We were very pleased with the end-result. It looks great, and the substantial rain we received several days afterwards provided a test of the new roof. No leaking problems, at least that we are aware of at this time. Andres lived up to our high expectations, and I would certainly recommend them to others!
Description of Work: We had the existing roofing materials stripped off down to the deck-boards on our house. Rotten wood and flashing were replaced with new materials, and then, new 30-year architectural shingles were installed. New lead, plumbing boots were also put on. We also had the same shingles installed over the one layer of the newer, existing shingles on our two-car detached garage. The existing gutters on the house were screwed in tightly, since we had encountered previous problems with them loosening up. The gutters and work-site were thoroughly cleaned, and debris hauled away. We also took advantage of the opportunity to have the old shingles recycled (a $150 fee within the total contract price).

I just saw this great report. Thank you. The member was very thorough and had extensive questions. He was also easy to work with. It was good to go over everything and make sure everything was covered in the contract. Since I work on the job as well as bid the roof it was easy to communicate to Joe and crew all the details. I think that is what separates us from some other companies is that we have all our own roofers and most of them have been with us for a long time. Joe has been working for Andres Roofing for 30 years and is an excellent foreman. Many of our other roofers have been with us for 7+ years. They understand the importance of communication with the homeowner and myself and making sure the homeowner knows what is going on. I was also happy to know it was important to the member to have his shingles recycled. At that time we were paying more to recycle them and I had to pass on that cost but now I have a new place that is actually a bit cheaper than just taking them to the landfill. We now recycle almost all of our tear offs at no additional cost.

I called Andres Roofing to look at my roof. Mostly it was for my piece of mind as I saw some shingles that looked like they were cupping some. I was told a few yrs ago by our home inspector that the roof was not more than 5 yrs old. Since we've had the house a few years now, I have doubted some of the things the inspector had on the home report. I wanted to see if Andres thought the same thing about my roof. He stopped by at the time he was suppose to and got out and told me the roof was fine. He could tell just standing from the ground that the roof was about the age our inspector said it was and it was in good shape, should last about 10-15 yrs more for us. He told me not to worry about what I thought were problems, he said this is the way this roof was done, something about the architectural shingle style. I'm glad he came out, it really put my fears to rest.
Description of Work: No services were performed. He stopped by and was able to determine just with a few minutes of looking at our roof from the ground that is was fine and there wasn't anything to worry about.

John, the owner, gave me a bid about a month ago. He was very detailed and answered all of my questions. They hauled all the old roofing away and cleaned up afterwards. I am very happy with the job they did.

They showed up when they said they would. They finished the job in two days as originally estimated. They cleaned up at the end of every day and took a lot of care to cover nearby surfaces to prevent damage. They asked me when there were any questions (like what I wanted done to the pergola) instead of assuming. There have been no leaks in the heavy rains since then. They did a very professional job. The roof looks great. John came by 2 days after the job was complete to walk through it with my husband and make sure we were completely satisfied before taking our check and giving us the lien waivers.
Description of Work: Remove existing shingles, and re-roof same with a 30 pound felt followed by Tamko Heritage Series (architectural shingle) – 30 year warranty. Both felt and shingles will be nailed in place (4 nails per shingle). Moisture guard will be installed as an underlayment in valleys. Vertical off-sets will be step flashed and counter flashing sealed. Plumbing vents will have new lead boots installed. Defunct power vent replaced with gravity vent. New flashing kit will be installed on 2x4 skylight. All debris will be hauled away. Work guaranteed for 5 years. Ridge vent installed. Shingle warranty and lien waiver supplied on completion.

After inspecting my gutters, I saw a depression in my roof and was concerned that I had a structural problem such as a broken rafter or termites. Andres sent someone out at 7am the next business day to do an inspection. It turns out that it was just the way the rafters have settled and it's nothing to worry about. While he was here, he repaired the flashings around the furnace flue, bathroom vents, and chimney, and gave me a referral for a someone to tuckpoint my chimney. Most importantly, he gave me reassurance that my roof is in great shape.

With the torrential rain we have been getting all October - John managed to get it in amazingly fast. He was able to fit us in between storm fronts on the few dry hours in an afternoon and get it swapped out. Not a single dribble since. This is the second leak he has repaired for us - and so far all of his repairs have stayed fixed!
Description of Work: Last year we had another contractor replace our old, leaking, skylights. What they failed to tell us was that they did not put the new flashing in with the new skylight - just put lots of tar over the old flashing. One year later - leaks - and the original guys wont repair it under their warranty. John was able to go up, see what the problem was, order the proper flashing for the skylight and get it repaired.

In the valley of my garage/house, we had a water leak. After numerous attempts to caulk and get it working, I got bids from several companies. They all recommended the same thing, but prices ranged from 800-1500. Not only did John offer the lowest bid (and have excellent angies list ratings), but he also is the only one that emailed me a bid the next day and offered a 5 year warranty on the work. They were prompt and professional, and my garage is completely dry in a hard rain.

I received two estimates from A rated roofing companies in your listing, with Andres Roofing Co. being the company I chose. Too they offered a coupon discount until 4-15-09, from your magazine. I signed this Contract on 3/12/09 and they performed all the work in one day, which was on 3/20/09. Mr. Andres called a day ahead and said the crew would start at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. All personnel showed up on time and they all worked in an efficient manner until job was completed. They did an excellent clean up job on the grounds. I'm very pleased. Prefer not to state "how much did you spend," as each house is different and there is a lot of competition. Andres should receive "Honor Roll" status.
Description of Work: Removed two layers of old roofing and felt. Then installed new heavier grade felt and good brand of algae resistant architectural shingles with 30 year warranty. Also replaced a roof type air vent, as well as vent with damper for range hood.

They are very prompt and they fit in to my schedule. We had a dance in the middle of the winter so they came and cleared the snow off. I was very happy with them. They were very responsive and I have no complaints about them what so ever.
Description of Work: The last time I used Andres Roofing of Des Peres was for them to do a complete tear-off roof replacement about 3 years ago.

They were backed up after the bad winds and storms this fall, so it took a while before they got to us to do the job. But we had a leak that was only there when severe storms and could wait to replace the roof. The original roof was 30+ years old, so it needed replacing anyway. They were very professional, did excellent work at an excellent price and cleaned up everything. They are very good and I would recommend them highly to anybody!
Description of Work: Removed old shingles, replaced plywood where needed and installed new shingle roof and also installed ridge vent.

They are nice to work with. They called back quickly. They are very friendly. Very good prices. Looks good so far. They are a small business. He has ordered the products. They have a family wedding and as soon as that is over then they are going to finish up the job. They told me previously about the wedding and agreed to the wait. They came out and gave a bid very quickly. I am sure they are going to do a good job.
Description of Work: They are replacing two roofs that got damaged during a wind storm.

The company responded right away to our call. They were courteous and professional. They listened to our needs, what we could really afford and got the job done right away for minimal cost.
Description of Work: We had some form of a leak which caused the plaster on our ceiling to bubble and eventually fall off during a big rain storm.
