Affton Roofing Co

I am writing this to warn as many people (especially single or older women) as possible about George Turner and Affton Roofing. He is charming and seems knowledgeable, but read on. We had our roof done by Affton Roofing in 2005. This included both shingles and a type of rubber roofing called bitumen. The dormer leaked into our back room from the first rain after his work was finished. Mr. Turner repeatedly sent a worker over to 'caulk' but it would leak again. Leaks did not happen in every rain so this dragged on for a year with no success. After 6 attempts over the course of the first year, I pressed him about what he would do. He hung up the phone on me, saying that the leak was past his one-year warranty and he was through. Calling him back resulted in no response. So we gave up on him and tried several handymen. Their efforts seemed to help for several months, but then a rain from the south would come and the leak would start. So now, out of frustration, we had two reputable roofing companies look at his work and they have both pronounced it as unsalvagable. We will be spending thousands to completely redo his work on the flat roof and dormer areas. Bids are coming in the next two weeks. UPDATE: Little did we know the extent of the problems with Affton Roofing. Two reputable roofers came out to inspect the problems and found the following issues that Affton Roofing had left for us. 1) no flashing around the dormer, 2) no insulation in the walls of the dormer, 3) incorrect installation of the siding, 4) flat roof of the dormer was coming off in spots and was not correctly finished, 5) incorrect placement of shingles up to the dormer, 6) nails in the rubber roofing 7) loose shingles in places that had not been nailed but shoved under other shingles. We had Richard's Roofing come to completely redo and rebuild the dormer, as well as some of the flat roof sections and a new window. See our review of Richard's Roofing. They did an excellent job, no more leaks. We thought we did enough homework, Affton Roofing got an A at BBB. He tends to work with single or older women, so be careful. By the way, he has several different names for his company, so check carefully under the name of George Turner on Weil Avenue!
