I have no idea if they would have been good or not since they were never open when they should have been.
Description of Work: I have tried to go to this light store two times, both at times that they are supposed to be open, and they have not been. The last time it looked like they might be out of business. Will now be looking for a new store.

The owner, John Ottwell, told me if I had a problem when I returned home to come back if there were any problems. He also tested the lamps to make sure they were working correctly before I left the store. Both lamps were fixed and I left the store a happy customer.
Description of Work: I took in two very nice lamps. One the button to turn it on broke off. The other had a crooked finial. Both lamps were fixed on the spot since they were small jobs that did not take much time.

Owner explained the possible on-going problems with the type of switch I had and suggested an effective, inexpensive alternative. Lamp now actually works, and works much better than before.
Description of Work: Very knowledgeable owner. Looks for best, least expensive!, way to fix problem. Will happily use again and consider other services. A+++

I took the lamp into John and he called me with an estimate before I got home. When I returned his call he told me he could fix my lamp for around $35.00. He said he had to order a new socket from a supplier which would take about a week. I said go ahead. He called me in less than a week and said my lamp was ready to pick up. He said as it turned out he didn't have to order a new socket but fixed my lamp with parts he had on hand at his shop. I picked up the lamp, paid him, and returned home to put the lamp up in the hall bath. The lamp worked fine, all five bulbs, but I noticed that one of the brackets holding one of the globes was installed upside down. I retuned the lamp to John who fixed the problem right away without any additional charge.
Description of Work: John repaired a lamp that was illuminating our hall bathroom. The lamp had five bulbs. One of the bulbs had a broken socket (didn't work) and another bulb worked but the globe surrounding it was about to fall off.

I found this company on Angie's List and took my lamp there for repair. They couldn't have been nicer. John (the owner?) looked at my lamp and gave me an estimate to repair. He suggested I go have a cup of coffee and the lamp would be finished in about 15 minutes. This was a real convenience - so much better than leaving the lamp and having to come back for it. I came back about 20 minutes later and the lamp was repaired and ready to go. I would most definitely recommend this great company and I will use again.
Description of Work: My lamp stopped working and I needed it repaired. The lamp wasn't that expensive, so I didn't want to spend a lot on fixing. It turns out it just needed a new switch.

I purchased a lamp at an antique mall. When I got it home, I realized one of the lights was hanging. (There are 2 lights in this lamp.) I took it one place and was told it needed all new wiring and would cost about $90 to $100. I decided to see if I could get another opinion, so I went to a consignment shop I frequent and was told about this company. John was very responsive and told me he could repair it for $50. He also said he thought the lamp was worth it. I left the lamp with him and got it back a couple of days later. The shade still needed a little tweaking to sit straight. I took it back to him and he straightened it out. John also gave me his opinion of the background of this lamp and it's brand which I really liked. I was very happy with A Light Above and will use them again .
Description of Work: Repaired the wiring in the lamp and straightened the glass shade.

I had searched everywhere to find someone who could repair my light and had been turned away by several businesses who said they couldn't help me. The problem was that my light was an antique and it wasn't a straightforward repair. I finally found A Light Above and e-mailed John a picture of my broken light. He promptly e-mailed me back and indicated that it didn't look like a difficult job and that it would likely cost $50-60 to repair. The next week I arrived at his shop with all the pieces of my fixture in a ziplock bag. When I arrived he was in the middle of what looked like a large and complex job, but he immediately stopped what he was doing and came to assist me. He was very patient in helping me figure out how all the pieces went back together and asked if I could wait 20 minutes while he repaired it. He said that it was better just to do it now, because it was a simple job. I was thrilled. I walked down the street to a bakery, and when I returned, he was finishing up the repair. He said it wasn't as easy as he thought because the sockets were attached with lock-tight bolts (I had no idea what that was, but he explained). When the repair was complete, he had removed the old sockets and lock-tight bolts, and then re-built each arm/candelabra of the light with parts from his shop and put on three new sockets. He then re-assembled the light pieces and re-wired the entire thing. At the end of the day, he charged me $30 - less than he quoted me, and despite the problems he encountered during the repair! He said that he calculated the price based on his hourly rate and based on how long he spent, that was the price. I was incredibly impressed with his honesty and fairness. I was thrilled. It would have cost me hundreds to replace the fixture.
Description of Work: John repaired a pendant light from my entry hall. We had broken sockets and needed a complete re-wire. We had taken it apart in attempt to fix it ourselves, so I literally brought it to him in pieces.
