We had a highly rated Angieslist provider out the day before and noticed there was a blocked coil in the new unit we received through our home owners warranty. He suggested because of the costly expensive of the repair and freon to contact home owners warranty. Glenn shows up and I show him the write up the previous company provided for him to see. Glenn speaks in way that is yelling at me. He goes outside to the unit and after 2 minutes of reading with a thermometer decides there is nothing wrong, it's not overcharged and no coil problem. He never opened the unit. He went to the basement and put 2 holes in the air duct flow units later realizing he did not need to do that. So now I have holes in the air flow units that didn't need to be there. Even though I asked him numerous times to open the unit to see the coil he insisted he was not going to. He was ready to leave pretty much after the initial 2 minutes and collect the $75 home warranty cost. Very disappointed and did not even attempt to try and see the coil or open the unit and now have holes in the units.
Description of Work: Provider did absolutely NOTHING!!! Worst service I have ever had!!

Our boiler retaining tank had begun to leak. The home warranty company, Old Republic, enlisted this company to come out and diagnose the problem. Tom and Joe, I believe these are the names, came out promptly and were courteous and friendly during their visit but I didn't feel that they were entirely professional in their manner and work. One of the two gentleman just supervised but it didn't seem like he was training the second worker, though he did correct his notations. This supervision seemed awkward and strange to me and wasn't something I've encountered before with service providers. Because the service to replace the tank was estimated at $3000 and because I would have to pay for quite a bit of this in spite of my coverage, I obtained two further quotations from Gaines and Harster. Both estimated came in at the same price which was reassuring. I chose Harster though based on their long line of positive comments and because they had a much more professional manner when they visited my home. In addition, I realize now that I paid A-1 $60 for the visit but no work was done. The other two companies did not charge me for their time.
Description of Work: A-1 visited my home to diagnose a leaking boiler retaining tank. No work was done but a quote was given for later work and replacement.

A1 Interstate was instructed by the warranty company to collect a $60 trade call fee. This was for the service call and diagnosis. We also do not charge for bids.

It was a fair experience - can a broken heating system in November be any better, really? The workers were kind and helpful. Things were not exceedingly smooth, but mostly that was because of regulations from the home warranty company, not A1.
Description of Work: Our boiler (we have a hot water radiator heat system) stopped working out of the blue. A1 was dispatched by BPG home warranty company. The correct diagnosis was made immediately (electrical failure fried the the thermostat and aquastat). Joe and Glenn were friendly and helpful. We did have some problems getting the correct part, which I believe was an issue with the distributor rather than A1. Anyway, it took a few trips out, but things got working and I learned a lot about my heating system. It only cost me $60 via the home warranty.

If I didn't detail enough in the previous area, let me say that the owner, Joe Halley, sat in his truck outside my house, while his worker tried (for the 5th time) to fix my unit. He never stopped in to see how things were going, he just spoke to the worker from inside his van, then left. This is a company used by an incompetent home warranty group (BPG). That is they only way they stay in business. You get what you pay for. The home warranty was paid by the seller, if that tells you anything.
Description of Work: This company came out 5 different times and, each time, had a different story on why their "fix" did not work. They were dispatched by a home warranty company ( BPG) who uses cheap, unqualified organizations. First time, repaired suction line and installed new filter drier. Second, they said the new drier they installed had a factory defect. Okay, could happen to anyone. Third time they fixed the defect in the drier, but that the previous company working on this unit was bad, so they had to contact the manufacturer to order it. When they came out the fourth time they installed the "fix". The owner, Joe Halley, said he was "positive" that would fix it. So, when the evaporator coil had an inch of ice and the temperature in my house got up to 92 degrees, they came back out. I found out they had not bothered to check if the evaporator coil (pulled out during their previous work) was level. So, they shimmed it with pieces of bent metal, which should also be a red flag to anyone who is not an idiot. So, as I sit here the next day, with the A/C giving me a cool 78 degrees, I will tell anyone in the Greater St. Louis area, to NEVER use this company.
