Green Thumb Lawncare N' Landscape, LLC

I contracted with Green Thumb to level a spot in my yard to install an above ground pool. I have since been warned by multiple experienced landscapers and a landscape architect that their leveling job is not fit for its intended purpose, as it simply cannot be guaranteed to to support the weight of the pool without a retaining wall to support the portion of the yard they built up above grade to achieve level. I am now hiring another company to come in and fix their unprofessional, unskilled work as it is clear after talking to them that they are either not knowledgeable enough to recognize the blatantly obvious issue or they simply do not care. I will pay them because I always keep my end of a deal even if I do not believe they have kept theirs, but my advice to others is to avoid this company at all costs. Update: Originally I left this review on their facebook page. Apparently it must have lowered their overall rating on facebook to a level below the owner's liking because he immediately deleted every other negative review from his facebook page (there were numerous), artificially increasing the rating back up to an insanely deceptive 5 stars. So I decided to post the review to other outlets. I mean wow, you should have seen some of the pictures unhappy customers had posted on his facebook account before he deleted them all! In one particularly memorable photo, Green Thumb had planted a boxwood shrub directly into mulch (no soil) and left it half out of the ground, then when it died they refused to pay to replace it and plant it correctly. Seriously, don't work with this company.

The project went very well I have been a long term customer, Everything as always is great! Their Lawncare division is always professional they call you beforehand to let you know. This summer I had a large project done by them and the Landscaping division is just great. They removed a patio, and tie wall then installed a new trash pad, installed a new Belgard paver patio on top of the wall they installed. Everything went smooth except they found drainage pipes under the concrete so that had to be pulled up and new stuff put in. That was extra but other than that clean-up was great and the guys were always professional and in uniforms every day.

Its been good. This my ten year with them. Satisfactory

I think it was Nick that came out to give me a quote. It seemed that he was not very knowledgeable on landscaping ideas Maybe more of a lawn care business than landscaping. After he came over he said he would send me a quote and I never heard from him again. Not a very good way to do business.

I was put on the schedule for the day after I contacted them (3/29), but was told that a rain-out was likely in which case, they would mow the following Wednesday (4/5). Today I woke to an invoice in my email for "services rendered" on 3/29. They have NEVER been to my property! I contacted the company and after a few exchanges, they said that they must have "hit a wrong button". They also assured me that they would be out today, because yesterday was rainy. The sun has gone down and I have not heard a single pass of a mower. This is the first time that I've fired someone before they have even begun to work for me.

Trim was OK; after trim, clean up was minimal, had to call them to return & finish clean up, which they did.

It was okay. I didn't see the people. They came, did their work and left. I wanted aerating and over-seeding. I don't know if they had gotten a big response for their advertised price but I felt they came out kind of late and they didn't leave much time for grass to grow in the fall. Actually, I was a little disappointed in how long for them to come out. It was actually later towards the end of October before they actually got here, maybe the second week of October. They were good. There wasn't any additional cost. The price was really good that's why I scheduled the service with them.

They were fair, did exactly what they said they'd do. I guess they were okay. I would recommend them or I just do the work myself. It was cheaper to have them come than it was to buy the material. They did a good job.

Good... the contractor did the work during the day while I was at work. But it was on the day scheduled and for a good price.

It was fine. We had no issues . We don’t own a home so we couldn’t use them again

It was a mess. The folks came out over a weekend and the person from the business called me on a Friday and left a message that I never got saying they’d be there. It was 3 or 4 guys with a trailer. The guys did a half-*** job. Anything resembling a hillside they didn’t aerate. I watched the guy in the back and he was lifting up the aerator to make it go faster. I called the owner about it and he offered to send them back out, but I didn’t want them to come back. The owner did send me the $30 back.

It went good but I do not remember how much we paid for their service. I was not here when they did the job and I was not able to meet them. I really did not have any experience with them but my husband did.

Was supposed to overseed and do aeration, no evidence any seed was put down. I did not ask for redo, would not use again.

Basically, their treatments killed my front lawn. I called the owner and spoke to him and he was to come out and never heard from him again. So I cancelled my service. I would not recomment this company.

They did a nice job. Communication could have been improved. No follow up (day of work or after) to discuss work or check in on task. Phone communications could be more professional as well.

We've been very pleased with them and I would give them an 'A' overall. We've been using them since October of last year and they are a local company. They were last here 2 weeks ago and we spent $50 for them to mow our lawn and do some weeding. 9 or 10 months of the year they are here every week. They're reliable, competent, responsive and on time.

The company did all of the fertilization and weed control for the full season. At the beginning of the year, Kevin walked though all the recommended services for my lawn and allowed me to select those I wanted. I knew the full cost up front. He would call before each service and made sure I was happy. Bottom line is all I had to do was water and mow. Definitely recommended and I will use them again next year.

It was a nice price. They showed up on time and they did a good job.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was fine. I added on the overseeding and they did that at a decent rate.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out fine. This was very simple and straightforward. I was not here when they did the work. I did not have any difficulty in scheduling or getting the work done. They did not charge me anything extra other than the big deal.

It was excellent. They didn't charge us more than the big deal purchase. They come when they said they're going to come. They did exactly what they said they're going to do. We had some remodeling done for some old sink and some old TV . Those were the items that we couldn't find anybody to take. It also included an old dispenser and an old microwave. My husband put it all together because that's just the way he is. I don't think that they required that. He just put in on together so that it would be easy for them to get too. I would use them again. We came slightly frustrated because we had a slight difficulty in contacting the people. There was an issue going on. We called them several times and we had to email them. That's where we got a response.

They did the job. I wasn't home when they came. They came a week later after I bought the big deal. There were no additional charges besides the big deal purchase. I would use them in the future.

I one word awful. They brought in dirt and graded the majority of what they were supposed to. Then it started pouring down rain. They packed up the rest of the dirt and did not finish grading, and laid the sod in the pouring rain to get the job "finished". They stated at that time that some of the sod had been cut improperly and was too thin. Instead of laying the sod from back to front, they did the opposite wheeling their heavy wheelbarrows of sod over what they just laid. This further damaged the improperly cut sod and destroyed portions of the grade. They came back out and said they would replace anything I was not happy with and they would sod the side yard where they brought their equipment in. They were supposed to come back first thing in the morning in 2 days. I stayed home to wait for them. They showed up at 4:30 and did not have enough time or sod to fix it all. They said they would not replace it all because the damaged sod that sunk in the mud would "come back" eventually. I did not pay for sod to come back. They said they would come back the next day to fix the grade and replace that sod. They did not show up at all that day. They did attempt to fix the grade in one of the four areas only, but it was not fixed properly and it's worse now. It sunk. The sod that they did replace is doing fine. The sod that they refused to fix never came back. That is about half of it. That sod is very green, like the rest, but half bare and sprouting weeds. Parts of the yard are so lumpy you can hardly mow it. they did put rings around two of the trees they were supposed to but not the third. We had the sod reviewed by a highly respected contractor and a leading sod farmer. They both agreed the sod was not only poor quality but should have never been laid in pouring rain. We were shown examples of their poor installation including grade problems, lumpiness, sod laid over existing sod and rocks, gaps, no straight edges, and on slopes where it should have been laid horizontally, and ridges where the new sod should have been even with the existing sod to name a few. They both agreed that the best solution would be to remove everything they did, fix the grade problems and re sod the area including the side yard that was never completely repaired. The estimate for that was approx. $1500.00. The next best solution was to immediately fix the most severe grade issues by pulling out the sod, bringing in dirt and leveling and replacing that sod. The next step would be to sod the areas that were never sodded, aerate the rest, seed with approximately 100 pounds of seed, and cover with composte. There is a Chance that this would work. Also the minor grade issues would need to be fixed and the ruts filled with dirt. Green Thumb was supposed to come back to apply organic fertilizer within 3 weeks. They never showed up so we purchased and applied. Three weeks ago Jason said he was coming back out, but did not show. Without seeing it, he responded to the BBB that we did not water correctly. That is not true. I have the water bill to prove that and the sod would not be green if it was not watered properly. That is not the issue. Water will not fix grade problems, lumpiness or make grass grow where there is none. We decided to go with the second option due to the cost to remove it all. We have already removed the sod where the most severe grade issues existed, brought in dirt and leveled and replaced with 43 pieces of sod. That sod is far superior to any sod that Green Thumb provided. Green Thumb offered to come out and slit seed the bad sod. Both of the people we talked to did not recommend slit seeding. First off I have given them opportunities and they already did not show up. Secondly, I do not believe they use quality materials. This is certainly not what We paid for. I was told that the grass would be as good as or better than the rest of the yard. It's not even close.

Ground was too hard in many places for tool to penetrate. I don't remember the price.

Did the work as scheduled. No complaints.
