They provided me with HOPE.. They seem and I still believe they are Dependable Contractors who know what they are doing. However, when i have to follow up with a contractor more the once only shows me they are suffering going pains. I can understand larger jobs have higher priority. Just call and inform the customer " I know we said 3 to four weeks however...." I am just up set the sprinker, and landscaping was all on hold until the patio was put in. I asked to rescind the contract and they were kind and done so. In short.. i feel they are good contractors just get a starting date.. This was a lost for both I wish them luck

I am not really sure what this person is talking about. I provided them a proposal in the time frame I said I would.
Tom and his team did a fantastic job. They showed up when he said they would, and they worked hard until the job was done; there was no wasted time. I had to wait for quite some time for his team to do the work, but it was worth the wait. They did a professional job, and the front of our house looks beautiful! Tom is a perfectionist, his standards are very high, and he wants everything to be just right. He is definitely someone I trust, and I feel comfortable hiring him to do a job; because I know it will be done right.
Description of Work: Put down dirt to build up our yard in some areas, added sod to bare areas, buried the drain pipes, installed stone wall, and landscaped the front of our house.

I truly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know this couple and have the opportunity to work at there home. There happiness when we were done meant very much to me. There was allot of time that went into the planning of all the work we did to the front of there home, from stone type and color to plant design and selection to installation and more. You can certainly say we put the Finishing Touch to the front of there home. Everything turned out looking incredible.

No return call for estimate. I had to call him a second time. He did come out and said he would have an estimate in 7-10 days. That was 2-3 weeks ago. Don't bother. Edit to posting on 6/3/13: Tom called on 6/4/13 to tell me he had emailed his proposal but he did not have the correct email address. Advised him that in fairness, I would edit my review to reflect this. I do appreciate him taking the time to call.

I called and spoke with this customer, I explained to him that I did send a proposal to them after about a 2 weeks. I had not heard anything from them. Then I seen this report, I called them and go to find out I had sent it to a e-mail address that did not get kicked back to me, it was a working e-mail but was not my potential customers. These people said they understood that and would gladly change this report, they have not changed yet. Sometimes these things happen.

We planned the steps I'll need in the fall and next spring to getting my yard to rights with his help. Everything else, all the smaller projects I can work on now with knowledge he gave me for free! Took his time, a buisinessman and gentleman.
Description of Work: Tom came to my house 15min prior to scheduled time. Tom walked with me front and back of my home giving me valuable information about feeding my lawn, edging walkways and flower beds, variety of plants in the sun and hard to grow shady areas as well as maintenance on already established shrubs.
Tom showed up as scheduled to bid on our projects. This was on April 23, 6:30 pm. Today is May 23, and I have not heard from him since.

Sometimes I find myself behind on getting bids back to potential customers. Everyone's project is important to me, so I don't turn down much work, but then I also find that I go on 25 to 35 appointments a week and after 4 weeks, well you can see how things can get backed up. We are growing.

Tom Watson, owner, did come out on 4/29 look at the space and committed to getting back to us with a bid. After a week and a half, we called to get a status. He informed us that he had not had time to work on it but he would do it over the weekend and get back to us. After several more weeks with not hearing from them, we called him again and he again told us that he hadn't had time to work on it. During this whole time they never contacted us to let us know that they were "too busy" to get to us. We had other bids done and were holding off on making a decision until were got their bid. A little communication from them could have gone a long way and prevented us from delaying our project by several weeks. Obviously we want be using them for our patio project.

I e-mailed my proposal to this customer a few days after I told them I would, not sure why they did not receive it. I asked them if I could verify the e-mail address and resend it and they said no. I did the work I was expected to do and was excited to hear back from them and get the opportunity to work at there home.

No work has been performed to date. No bid has been received. Ms. Watson was at my home over a month ago and stated I would receive a bid in about a week. No follow up to let me know anything. Poor customer service. I read all the wonderful comments about this provider prior to calling. Very dissappointed
Description of Work: I contactted this company to set up a time to get an estimate on some flooding issues in my back yard. The owner was very responsive and set up an appointment for the survey of the issues the following Saturday at 8am. He arrived a little early so I was immediately impressed. He reviewed the landscape and photos that I had taken of the flooding issues. He then took measurements. He stated that I would hear back from him with a bid for the work (french draines) in about a week. After about a week and a half I contact him and he stated that he had been very busy, but would put mine on top since I had called and he would get it to me. I stated that it wasn't my intent to push someone else's bid back but asked for a timeframe for my bid since the first one had obviously passed. It is now May 22 and I have yet to get a bid or hear from Mr. Watson. During my initial phone call with him he stated there was no need to call anyone else as he would be the best with the best price. Now how would I know that?

Tom came by and advised what we could do to correct drainage issues and improper grating in the yard. He also advised on our back patio as his brother (Hungry Carpenter- awesome too) would be building our deck. He had creative but very practical ideas. He has great vision and communicates it well. He's a down to earth, honest guy. We loved talking to him, we loved the ideas. We walked through the front and back yards and he gave us lots of pointers on our lawn and existing plants. This was just yesterday so we are still waiting on the quote. I am hoping it is as reasonable as the deck quote his brother gave us was. We are looking forward to working with him and having a beautiful and functional yard!

Great experience. Tom promptly sent me an email and set up appointment for getting an estimate. I accepted and he scheduled the work for approximately three weeks later. E-mailed me that he would be here on Wednesday but then showed up on Monday. Did all the tear out work on Monday and finished the job on Tuesday. When he e-mailed me that the work would be started he had no problem when I asked if more could be added. Great looking work. My girlfriend is always sceptical about stuff but she was very pleased with the work also.

Tom is great. He is so postive you WANT him to do the work. He was prompt in coming out to give bids on planting a dogwood tree and diverting the output of a sump pump by adding a good length of underground pipe to flow water to an inconspicuouspop up valve. He took away our sogginess around the front porch and side of house (my neighbor must be pleased also). The tree is lovely and budding now. Tom is quite professional and knows his business on the horticultural and the hardscaping side. I plan on using him again to help me landscape the back of the house. His very pleasant and efficient crew are wonderful

Yes, as the Customer mentioned this is the second paver Patio we have built for them. First one was at a rental property they own and this one was at there home. Everything turned out looking very nice. I look forward to future project with them.
ISSUES: 1) Tom did not apply for any of the necessary permits. 4 hours into ripping a hole into my front yard with a bulldozer, the town inspector shut the project down. I had to basically take a day off of work to deal with it. Permits are the contractors job. This delayed the project 2-3 days while I was constantly on the phone with the city. It was not just the dumpster permit, it was zoning permits as well. One call to city hall by Tom before the project would have prevented the large bright orange stop work order on our lawn. 2) I am left with a VERY DANGEROUS SET OF STEPS THAT DON'T WORK! I hired Tom to build a set of steps on the side of my driveway. He constructed the steps in a way that the steps (made of stone) are always popping out of place, such that if someone is coming down the stairs, the stone pops and the person is in danger of falling down the stone steps. First he denied that anything was wrong --- "that's how I build them all the time, I don't know why they are loose, they shouldn't be". Well they are loose and its irrelevant that Tom thinks that they shouldn't be. After hounding him for two weeks, he will show up, do a poor, quick and shoddy job fixing the steps, and they pop loose several days later. After 14 months of this, I am going to have to pay someone else $1000+ to fix Tom's shoddy work. 3) When placing the dumpster in my driveway, the dumpster was dropped incorrectly and put a huge crack/hole in my driveway that remains unrepaired. I would not hire Tom again and I would not recommend him to anyone else. There are enough professionals out there that will get the job done well and professionally. Try someone else.
Description of Work: We had a very narrow driveway that was dug into a hill, so high walls on both sides. The project consisted of: 1) Ripping out the wall (about 5 feet) on one side, digging the hill out so that our driveway was about 6 feet wider. 2) Constructing a new wall 3) Installing stone steps up to the side of our house from the driveway 4) landscaping the side walkway of our home, which was muddy, with large stepping stones 5) Putting sod on our front lawn and along the new wall of the driveway 6) Putting gravel down

I was happy to know we had won this project and was given the opportunity to work at the home. I knew about the permit for a dumpster in Clayton if the dumpster was going to be placed on the street, but this particular project we were placing it in the driveway, primarily because the driveway was going to be taken and out and a new slab poured along with the extention area of the driveway and therefore the dumpster would not be blocking the street for traffic. The city of Clayton, go to find out, wants a permit now for a dumpster anywhere on the property, thats a new change that I was not aware of, so Yes, I worked to get that resolved and got my crew back to work, I don't view this as a bad thing trying to keep the project moving along with out delays. The project turned out looking awesome. We deserved an A report.

We contacted Tom again after his excellent work on his previous gutter job for us. We had a basic design plan for the yard, but wanted a professional to help with advice and to do the work. Tom and his crew were excellent again! Our only complication was a very bitter winter, which killed about 20 of our 70 plants/shrubs. He will return this fall to replace these plants. We will use his company to also help us maintain the mulching.
Description of Work: Landscaping wall (40 ft. 2-tiered retaining wall) was constructed on our backyard "hill." Landscaping stone, gravel and/or mulch also placed around the front of the house to create perennial beds. Pavers and 2 ft of gravel placed against foundation all around the other three sides of the house. Bedding plants and shrubs were planted on two sides of the house and on the two levels of the retaining wall. Two trees were planted.

Mr. Watson seemed to be a good contractor, and a nice guy. He and I were trying to come together on the cost of the landscaping. Even though his bid was higher than other bids we had received for the same work, I was looking forward to working with him because of the reviews I had read about his company on Angie's list. When we agreed on the cost and on the specific portion of the job that would be completed, he said he would do the work soon after Thanksgiving. I'm not sure what happened, but I never heard back from him.??????? I spoke with Mr. Watson and it appears there was some miscommunication. However, I don't feel comfortable giving a contractor 50% of the cost of the work when a date has not yet been scheduled. I am planning to meet with this contractor again, and hopefully we can go forward with the project. When the project is completed, I will update the rating for this company.

Wow, I am actually very surprised to see this report, becuase I was wondering the same thing. The customer was wanting to hold off on the project for awhile and then she called and said they wanted to do a portion in the Fall. I was very happy to hear that and asked them to send a signed copy of the revised proposal with a 50% down check to get the project scheduled and ready to go, like I ask of all of my customers. Well, I never got the contract and the money down in the mail, so I figured they changed there minds and wanted to hold off till Spring. I will call them again and follow up like I had done in the past.

Tom and his crew did a great job rebuilding the retaining wall as it looks beautiful. They took great care in taking apart the blocks as they were able to reuse a majority of them. This was a difficult and time consuming task as the blocks were all glued together. They also took the time to ensure all of the glue was completely removed from the blocks prior to reuse. In addition, the level of detail they took cleaning up after the job was unbelievable. Before, during and after, Tom was very responsive to voicemails/emails and was professional and friendly throughout the whole process. The bottom line is that I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would highly recommend Finishing Touch Landscape to anyone in need of a good, honest landscaping contractor. Thanks again Tom.
Description of Work: I had a large Versa-Lok mosaic retaining wall constructed in the front of my house in early 2006. Unfortunately the original contractor I chose did a horrible job as the wall began to fall down over the last few years due to its errant construction. Essentially, I needed to have the wall torn down and rebuilt. During late 2012, I got bids from three different companies and decided to go with Finishing Touch Landscape based on Tom's detailed analysis of what was wrong with the wall and how he was going to rebuild it and the reasonable price to do so.

It all went extremely spectacularly well! Met with Tom on 4 or 5 occasions & set the job up.Got the bid promptly.Had changes on my part & Tom rolled with them. One of those meetings included the concrete representative.Through out all the meetings Tom was always on time & stayed in touch, making recommendations, explaining the process & keeping my needs in the forefront of the job. This job was complicated by having to dovetail it into the concrete pouring schedule. After delays that were in part mostly my doing I canceled the job with no hard feelings & Tom was an expert at diplomatically getting me back on track! The job is now finished in a professional manner & the end results exceeded my expectations! The crew cleaned up after each work day, protected the work area & left behind no trash. They groomed the entire work area with hay & seed, groomed the gravel apron with additional gravel & cleaned the driveway.Stacked all old material neatly & went above & beyond what he said he would do with all the details. Tom is an honest, intelligent, artisan who is passionate about his craft. He is tolerant of difficult customers such as myself. Thank You Tom & Crew! See pictures I have added-

We got the bid in July, and finally made the decision to do it September 13th. Tom broke the bidding down into 2 pieces as we asked. The retaining wall tear-out and replacement with the gutter rerouting was one bid and the 3 tiered beds were another. We decided to do both. He called the Friday before they showed up on December 12th and said they would be there on the 12th. They worked everyday from then on, until it was finished. The crew was polite, fairly quiet for a work crew and did not leave a mess each day. They did a very good job and we were pleased. After finishing the construction, they reseeded the lawn and put down straw on the slopes. They also power washed the dirt and mess off of the patio. It looks wonderful and we are excited to get some new plants put in. The huge, stone steps, which were Tom's idea look very professional. He also suggested rerouting the underground guttering, which we thought was a great idea. The only complaint we have, is that it took much longer for him to get to us than he had originally told us. I talked to him on September 13th and he said that he should be there in 3 weeks. October came and went. I emailed him and then talked to him in November and he said that there were problems with illness on the crew and other jobs that were before us, wanted more done than they had originally agreed upon. November came and went. When he gave us the bid he had told us he wouldn't cash our down-payment that we sent along with the signed contract until he was ready to come, or we would have been concerned about the delay. However, we had been thinking of doing this for over 10 years, so we obviously weren't in a big hurry. When he did call to let us know when they'd be there, they showed up right on time. Overall, the job looks great, we are pleased and would use Tom again. He's a very nice guy, also.
Description of Work: Tom and his crew tore out an old railroad tie retaining wall that was around a U-shaped patio at the back of our home, and rebuilt it with versalok blocks. They also rerouted 2 underground gutter pipes that ran underneath the old retaining wall. They took them out into the yard with a pop-up green cap, so that if there was ever a problem with the gutters, we wouldn't have to tear out the retaining wall to fix them. On one of the legs of the U, they put down large stones to serve as steps, where the railroad tie steps had completely rotted and disappeared. The other leg of the U is even with the ground. They also built 3 new tiered, raised, planting beds with the versalok along the foundation of our house that runs up a steep hill.

The workers were dropped off and Tom arrived and checked in with them. Initially, the 3 guys were hanging out and one of the 3 was working. They got into an argument and I reported them, since they were so slow and then yelling at each other was intolerable. I reported this behavior to Tom who was very responsive. He met with the head worker and things improved immediately. The project did take a couple of days longer than we were told it would, due to the slow pace in the beginning. The finished product was worth the trouble. It is beautiful and exceeded our expectations. My brother was here about a week later and he has a number of related businesses. He was very impressed with the quality of the work! In the end, we got a top notch job and the price was significantly lower than the competing bids. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

This customer were very fun to meet and work with. I got the call from my customer about the guys arguing, this was a huge shock to me because they have never done this in the past, they are usually very happy go kinda of workers who all get along, I spoke with my crew leader and he said that they were not arguing about anything just talking loud and getting the work completed. My workers know what I expect and how we act on customers property so I don't see this as being a on going problem. The guys finished the project and well all i can say is, it turned out looking great as the customer has mentioned also.

We had some initial confusion on the start date but once we got that worked out his team showed up and completed the projects promptly. They did a great job on both projects and we are looking forward to the spring to see the new results.
Description of Work: Tom provided us with an estimate to extend a small retaining wall with some new plants on the side of our house and a project to install some boulders around a pool pump.
