Excellent service! Drain Masters came the same day I called. This was our 5th plumber in 30 days. Before them, no one was able to identify where the stoppage was nor tell us how to fix it. Jeff and Jeff used the camera to find exactly where the stoppage was and informed us of the choices and pricing and they went to work! Although it took hours to clear using the hydro-jet, they worked very hard the entire time. They were extremely professional and kept us informed every step of the way. I couldn't have asked for a better service! To top it off, we ended with a 1 year warranty! It was worth every penny spent!
Description of Work: We called Drain Masters due to a stoppage with sewer backup coming out of the floor drain.

They did a fantastic job. They were friendly and easy to get along with. They answered most of my questions before I even asked them. They were very considerate. They were an outstanding team. I feel the price was fair. They came out to give us the estimate a day after we called. Then when we were thinking of starting they didn't rush us to get a commitment from us. When we did decide to commit, they were a pleasure to work with. They were outstanding.

I would recommend them if you don't mind paying for the service. The work was excellent. I could have gotten it done cheaper, however, I would have had to wait another month. They were here within hours after I discovered the problem. They knew what they were doing.

The company is technologically advanced but that outpaces the experience of the operator. However the operator was very nice and professional. In the end the area he believed had a problem, in fact, had no problem but was just extremely difficult to navigate and inspect. The operator was very kind in approximating the cost of the repair. My greatest objection is that he didn't mark every 3-5 ft where the pipes were. Only in one area.
Description of Work: The iron pipes in my basement were scoped with a camera and inspected for evidence of damage. All in all 3 were inspected.

The quote was fair, was in the middle. They did not give us a complete discription of what would be done on the job. I had asked for this, and I had never got it back. They gave us a bid, for a basic price. I had asked for a detailed discription on what would be included in that, and I don't remember ever getting that back.
Description of Work: Only got a bid from them, never decided how to have the job done.

Everything went fine at the time and I opted to sign up for a $7.95 monthly service they offered that would give me discounts on future visits (having an older home I thought this might be a good Idea at the time). After paying for this service a number of years, I decided it wasn't needed and called to cancel it last June. They STILL have not discontinued the charge. I have now called 5 TIMES since then to have this stopped and have the extra money charged returned to my account and they assure me it will be taken care of. But it hasn't. I have now called again and if they don't resolve this matter, I'm reporting them to the BBB. Any company that operates this way is not professional and sketchy in my opinion. Choose someone else.
Description of Work: Back in the mid 2000's I had Benjamin Franklin out to do some minor plumbing work, then signed up for a service program. This review has to do with the program I signed up for. Please note that the date of initial service above is my best guess. It was a number of years ago and I no longer have the receipt, but that this review focuses primarily on the last several months I've been dealing with them.

The old and corroded interior shut off valve for the outside water faucet was leaking in both positions and needed to be replaced. I called Drain Masters because I had good experience with them about year and half prior. The plumber arrived quickly as promised on the phone. He was very courteous and made a quick diagnosis of the problem. As with my last drain master repair, the plumber showed me a tiered "menu" of by-the-job prices for a full gamut of plumbing repairs (parts included). At this point I asked if there was room left in the price fix the leaking exterior valve. He suggested the valve be replaced with a frost free-model and showed me a "parts room" card with the $129 price for the valve. He agreed to charge no additional labor as it was minimal additional pipe cutting and soldering. Since I live in slab home where it's messy to replace pipes, I agreed to the additional repair. The job was in a tight spot and took about an hour and a half. Overall I'm satisfied with the Drain Masters although the $129 additional material charge seems high for a simple valve. They do charge a $79 service call fee which was waived with acceptance of the work.

My call to the 4th company was picked-up by an actual person (not a recorder) who was very personable and understanding. She stated the technician will arrive between 1-4pm and he arrived within the time she said he would. The technician looked very professional, and was very affable, he finished the job quickly in less than one hour, he cleaned up a spill made by the hose, explained we had 30 day guarantee and left. Dealing with this company for the first time left a good impression, if I have the problem again I will call them again.
Description of Work: Basement drain backed-up. Owner’s attempts to clear drain stoppage proved futile. Placed calls to 4 companies’ from Angie's list. The first call was placed to a company close to the home owner, thought since the address was so close to his home travel expenses will not be that expensive, only to find out the technician was coming from far away, therefore, bill was going to be quite high since he quoted $195/hr from the time he started traveling. The second call was not returned. The third call came after contacting the 4th company, therefore, had to be cancelled.

It was July 4th and we got a terrible rotten egg smell in our house. Fearing that it was a gas leak, we called our gas company to come out and check. The gas inspection came up clean in terms of leaks but they found a gas pipe that led to an area in our house they couldn't verify where it ended. So they turned off our gas until we got that line capped. In desperation of needing to get our gas turned back on and finding the smell we openned the Yellow Pages and saw a Drain Masters ad which stated they were family owned and guarantee their work. Luckily they showed up within a couple of hours. The plumber was fairly good at listening and trying to understand what was going on. I didn't like that he was throwing out very high quotes to be more sure as to what the problem may be, but in the end he felt it was not a plumbing issue and thought it was more likely a dead animal. (SIDE NOTE: while it was greatly appreciated that he didn't just recommend doing things when he really wasn't sure what the problem was - in the end it turned out to be a plumbing issue in our attic associated with our new HVAC system that we definitely talked to him about and another plumbing company found and fixed). Where the bad score comes is because I feel that their price was ridiculously unfair for the job he did capping the pipe. They claimed we were not getting a 'holiday rate' and yet I still feel that they took advantage of us on the immediacy of our needs.
Description of Work: Looked for the cause of a rotten egg smell in our upstairs and capped off a gas line that lead to an untracable destination.

We discovered a water leak in our basement one evening. A quick Google search found Drain Masters in our area and a lady answered when I called. We set up an appointment for the following morning between 10 and 12. When the technician had not arrived by 12:00, I called the office, the lady said that the technician would call shortly and I left my phone number for a second time. The technician did not call, but did show up about 35 minutes later. It turns out that the receptionist wrote down my phone number wrong both time I communicated it to her. The technician came in and found the source of the leak which required removing a fair amount of drywall. While I feel that we may have been charged a little more than we should have been, the tech spent nearly 3.5 hours replacing the pipe and did a decent job. This is where our moderate satisfaction ends. Following this work we filed and insurance claim to recoup the cost. The insurance adjuster asked for a detailed receipt of the work done. I have called their office nearly 10 times asking for this to be faxed to our insurance adjuster and it has not been done. Every time I ask for it someone says that they passed the request on to the master plumber or technician and they will take care of it. I don't believe I'll ever get the detailed receipt.
Description of Work: This company replaced a damaged drain pipe in our house. The damage to the drain pipe was on the main floor of the house, but other water damage occurred in the basement. This involved finding the source of the water leak and replacing the damaged pipe.

We woke up this morning to tepid water from a water heater not yet old enough to die. An Angie's List recommended plumber couldn't get to it soon, so I called Ben Franklin now Drain Masters. "Technician" was at the house in about 3 hours, looked at the water heater, and tested nothing. After looking at the base -- pilot light on -- and the water spot on the floor -- wasn't there at 7 AM -- he concluded a new water heater was needed. His estimate was for $2435 for a replacement 50 gal power vent heater and guessed half of that charge was for the heater. I asked for an itemized estimate but he said his boss wouldn't let him give one. Seemed expensive. I paid him his service fee and told him I would call. I looked at the operating manual -- taped in plain sight on the heater -- opened the pressure relief valve, then cycled the thermostat. The Heater came on and we now have hot water. Drain Masters has my $79 but I still have $2350+ that they wanted, hot water, and the satisfaction of filing this report. I also have the knowledge of who not to call next time.
Description of Work: Technician came to house, examined water heater, diagnosed dead heater and recommended a replacement that would cost $2435 -- although he actually recommended getting a bigger, more expensive one, despite my expressed satisfaction with the historical function of the present one.

This was a mixed bag. The bathtub spout, temperature controller and valves on the main line were done very well. With the water softener, we had some problems. The original softener failed after about two weeks in a catastrophic fashion. Due to a defect in the unit, it overflowed and spilled a lot of salty water over the floor of the utility room where it was installed, ruining a couple of rugs and some other items stored on the floor. Ben Franklin came out immediately to clear the water and turn off the softener. It took many calls to get a new unit delivered and installed. The office people promised us this would happen quickly, but in the end Ben Franklin insisted that the manufacturer had to come out and determine the cause of the failure first, which took nearly 4 weeks. This was way too long. We wanted Ben Franklin to replace the unit immediately and deal with the manufacturer on their own time, but they would not. In the end a new unit was installed at no charge and works fine.
Description of Work: Benjamin Franklin Plumbing (which also goes by the Drain Master name) did 4 plumbing jobs for us over the course of about six weeks. Installed a whole house water softener, replaced a bathtub spout/shower diverter, replaced a shower thermostatic temperature controller, and replaced the main shutoff valve and installed a ball valve on the main line. The water softener was about two thirds of the total cost noted above.

Work performed in a timely professional manor. They were on time and worked until finished with the cleanup work. Done in 1 day. Daryl was the man that came out & did the estimate. Daryl & Jarret were the ones that did the work. Daryl was very personable. He explained everything in detail & never once did I feel that he was talking down to me since I am a single woman. Jarret lacked a little in the clean up category. I had an issue with low water pressure after job was complete. Jarret was inexperienced and wasn't able to fix the problem. However Daryl came back the next day and adjusted the regulator on the shut off which fixed the situation in about 10 minutes. I was pleased with the work done.

This plumbing company really knows their stuff. They are trained in the latest technology, offered creative and helpful suggestions, and resolved all the unexpected problems in a timely way. The delays were caused by U. City inspector scheduling to approve whether or not the work met code (it did). They cleaned up each day and were careful if of my home and gardens. They made this very descriptive and expensive job as convenient and smooth as possible.
Description of Work: Originally, the plumbers thought my kitchen drain in the basement needed to be replaced. Once basement floor was torn up, it turned out that all drains and pipes in my basement were collapsed or disintegrated (my house is 80 yrs old). The plumber explained and showed me the problem, and accommodated my schedule to get all old pipes out and new ones installed within 3 days.

WHEN CALLING, I ASKED FOR AN ESTIMATE, AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE GIRL TOLD ME THAT SHE COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON THE PHONE, BUT THAT THE PLUMBER WOULD GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR THE JOB WHEN HE ARRIVED. WHEN WE WERE FINISHING UP THE PHONE CALL, CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE $79.00 FOR THE SERVICE CALL AND TERMINATED THE CALL. AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT, I CALLED THEM BACK AND ASKED THEM IF WHEN THEY CAME OUT AND GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON THE JOB, THAT IF I DID NOT LIKE THEIR PRICE, DID I HAVE TO PAY THE $79.00 ANYWAY, AND SHE ANSWERED YES. EVEN IF I DID NOT HAVE THEM DO ANY WORK. I TOLD HER THAT I WAS NOT WILLING TO PAY $79.00 FOR A SIMPLE ESTIMATE. SHE ATTEMPTED TO ARGUE WITH ME OVER THE ISSUE, BUT I TOLD HER TO PLEASE JUST CANCEL MY APPT.

Wonderful! I got someone to come out the very day I called to book an appointment. The gentleman was courteous, worked professionally and was down-to-earth. He actually offered me some tips on how to ensure my faucets don't get the build-up again. Wonderful individual! When the driver was running a tab late (due to traffic) the office called to tell him he hadn't forgotten me and was on his way.
Description of Work: I had low pressure in one of the bathroom shower heads that had reduced itself to a trickle. The gentleman who came by took the shower head off and cleaned out the mineral salt build-up that had occurred. He replaced the shower head (for no extra cost).

We called first thing in the morning. The call takers were very friendly and helpful and offered to send out the first crew. The guys showed up in the time that they said that they would and were very quick to resolve the problem. The only weird thing that happened was when the call taker called back to confirm the time, she did not realize she was in my voice-mail and left an inappropriate message. I would have them out to my house again.

In my opinion the work was done very sloppy. The leak was across the street and yet they came over and dug in my yard, which wasn't necessary. I have an in-ground sprinkler system which they broke. I know it was my fault for not notifying them of this before they came, but I feel that before digging up my lawn someone should have at least come to the door and let me know they were going to do this. (I didn't even know they were out there working.) I was not rude or anything regarding this as I knew it was my fault, but the job foreman was not polite about it at all. My lawn is very nice, but the section that they dug up now is uneven, full of rocks and half the grass seed they threw on it didn't even grow. This happened early in the year and I called the county and complained and they said they would contact Drain Masters. I also called Drain Masters and told the office girl about it (she said the boss would call me back.) That was the last I ever heard from them.
Description of Work: There was a water leak across the street from our house and I reported it to the water company. It turned out that it wasn't their problem to fix and so it was reported to St. Louis County who picked Drain Masters to do the work. Excavation and patching of lines was done.
