**Avoid Cardinal Contractors: A Warning About Incompetence and Greed** I want to share my troubling experience with Cardinal Contractors to caution anyone considering working with or hiring them. My time with the company exposed alarming incompetence and greed. I was hired for a roofing sales position despite having no experience in the industry. They assured me I’d be paid for each week of training, but after leaving the company, I realized I never received the promised pay. When I tried to resolve this, I encountered disorganization and indifference. I contacted Cassie King, the receptionist, who ignored my messages. Later, I found out she no longer worked there and had failed to submit payments from multiple customers, delaying payments, including mine. How could a company allow such carelessness? I escalated the issue to Stacy Williams, who claimed my check was ready but never followed up. Tim Schroeder later told me my check was withheld until I returned my work materials, which I had already done. Despite proving this and getting confirmation from Blake, my hiring manager, they still refused to release my pay. When I visited the office in person, Stacy became increasingly hostile, blaming me for the issue. Tim Schroeder initially seemed helpful, but he blocked me after failing to follow through. Stacy accused me of harassment when I continued to ask for the pay I was owed, telling me I’d get my check “when I get my check” before hanging up on me. In a final attempt to resolve this, I met with the Vice President, Mary Enke, and owner Alan Peele. They claimed they couldn’t verify my work for the week in question, despite having no clock-in system or policy requiring such verification. Instead of resolving the issue, Mary resorted to yelling, and Alan even put his hand on me, both threatening to call the police. In conclusion, Cardinal Contractors is plagued by incompetence and greed. They lack basic organizational skills and show no regard for their employees. If you’re considering working with or for them, I strongly urge you to reconsider—it could cost you time, money, and peace of mind.

EMPTY PROMISES and NO SHOWS. After an inspection by a Cardinal Contractors salesmen, he said our roof had enough damage & we should contact our insurance company to file a claim for a new roof. I was skeptical as we've been told previously by other roofers that insurance would not cover it. The salesperson assured me he would be there for the inspection & get it covered by insurance. The insurance adjustor contacted me the night before with his arrival time & he confirmed the time with the salesperson. The adjustor came to our home for the inspection & the salesperson from Cardinal Contractors didn't show up. I didn't get a phone call or any notification. The insurance adjustor said there wasn't enough damage for insurance to pay for a new roof & left. I called the salesperson several times & he never called me back. I called the office & was told that the salesperson had a personal issue come up & someone else was supposed to be at my home for the inspection. Apparently this person went to the wrong address. The total lack of communication was appalling. Cardinal Contractors suggested I ask for a re-inspection with the insurance company. They were certain we could get insurance to buy the roof. We scheduled a re-inpsection. The person from Cardinal Contractors who came out for the 2nd inspection was NOT the person who did our initial inspection. He left before the insurance company was done. He told me it looked like they were not going to pay for the roof & he left. The insurance company told me they were not going to pay for the roof. This entire process was a complete waste of our time! It will likely result in our insurance premiums going up because we filed a claim on our homeowner's policy. The no show, lack of follow up, person leaving before the inspection was done and the fact that we should never have filed a claim in the first place because our roof didn't have enough damage are all the reasons why I'm giving this company a one star rating. Go elsewhere!

Description of Work: The roof looks great! The PM I worked with was very nice to work with, and mostly the job was done very well. I did have to call back and have them repair a hole in the roof that let in water that dripped into my kitchen after the new roof was installed. But they came out right away and fixed it quickly. I continue to fine scraps of roof in my garden - not just a few pieces, many many pieces. I'm sure some of this cannot be avoided, but I'm not sure how much of an effort was made to get these up.

Generally a very good job. (B+) Excellent job in dealing with insurance claim issues and paperwork. Good work crew that persevered through an unforecast, very severe lightning/thunderstorm to cover up the roof while replacement was in progress (took three working days). Cardinal Contractors proved to be very responsive to my concerns and questions. Scheduling was an issue, but we had a run of extended and unpredictable wet weather. Only a few hiccups such as not covering up the low-voltage lights as we had discussed, and then breaking several ofthem in the process of working though the old roof removal. Also, theydid not really know how to deal with my Solatube(TM) sky lights. I ended up ordering replacement domes myself, through a local vendor, and then having Cardinal Contractors install them, which they did just fine. They worked very well with us to meet our specific requirements. I would gladly work with them again and recommend them to friends and neighbors.

My husband and I had filed a claim two years ago for hail damage and had been turned down by the insurance company. We'd done the $7000 restoration every 5-10 years to maintain the cedar shake roof. Wiser people reading this will say, Never go with the first answer! Boy, is that ever true. ***As a quick side note: If you're considering putting a cedar shake roof on your house, don't. Don't get it. Don't even consider it. There are contractors in St. Louis who will install it. Unlike other areas of the country, though, here there are only a couple of uninsured fly-by-nights who will do the required maintenance. You will be at their mercy. I know. I bought a house with one twenty years ago.*** Anyway, along come the hailstorms of spring 2015. Our insurance agent didn't want to send out an inspector until his "knowledgeable, trustworthy friend" looked at it first. Meanwhile, next door neighbor gets new roof and gutters --same insurance company, different office. Daughter gets new roof. Neighbors all along street and in subdivision get damages repaired. West county basically got a redo. A steady stream of roofers drive in, leave business cards, talk to us, leave samples. We find spare time and go roof shopping. Saw some really bad jobs; crossed a couple of cagey roofers off the prospect list. Found styles we didn't like, namely slate. Found colors that wouldn't do. Talked to roofers who were out to make easy money and move on. Looking around really helped. Finally we came across a similar house in St. Albans with the perfect roof for us. Roofer was Cardinal Contractors. Did an angieslist search and read some feedback on Cardinal and Aaron. When you search for Cardinal, there are several companies with slightly different names. Be sure you get Cardinal Contractors on N. Main in St. Charles. Ask for Aaron. I'd read a good review on him, so I was happy when he was the one who came to meet us. He talked us through everything. He always listened. He was on site often--a big plus, and when not, if we needed him, he arrived amazingly quickly. There were a couple issues we thought we had; he explained everything in detail, without any I-know-best attitude, and it turned out to be non issues. For example, we thought the new roofing wasn't horizontal in two places, so my husband took a photo, printed it on graph paper and found out that it was indeed as perfectly straight as Aaron said, just an optical illusion. Aaron did everything he promised, and more. When he painted some trim on the dormers, he decided the cedar had been dinged up a little, so he painted that too. He spray painted the roof vents to match the new roof before installing. He painted all vertical pipes on the roof (stacks and radon mitigation vent) so they'd be unnoticeable. The crew worked from sun up to dark. I never saw guys standing around talking, on the phone, or wasting time. Aaron and his crew have restored my faith in roofers. Every evening before they left, they cleaned up. Trash, pieces of roof, plywood, tools, whatever. Our driveway is only two years old, and it's stamped concrete. To say we worried about Meridian putting a ginormous dumpster on it would be putting it mildly. Aaron explained how it would work. He took photos of the driveway in case there were issues later. There weren't. I was concerned that Aaron would request the final check before everything was complete, because he was doing a great job, and I didn't want to have to tell him no, not yet, not until x, y, or z is removed, finished, painted, etc. To my pleasant surprise, he did not. When there was absolutely nothing left to be done except sit on the bench and admire our perfect new roof, he requested --and I was happy to give him-- the balance.
Description of Work: Tore off damaged cedar shake roof and replaced it with composite, shake-look product. Handled most of paperwork and phone calls with insurance company.

Cardinal Contractors did a complete roofing replacement at my home. Aaron Wallis, from Cardinal Contractors, was project leader, he did an outstanding job. He was with my project from beginning to end visiting the site probably several hours each day. Aaron's attention to detail was outstanding. He coordinated everything, all of the material delivery and roofing crews, everything. My roof is steep (12 pitch), large (5000 sq ft) and somewhat complex and as such required a full week to completely tear-off and replace, although two days were cut short due to heavy rain. My roof has lots of valleys along with full hip and ridge venting which also had to be replaced. Cardinal Contractors installed an Owens-Corning Total Protection Roofing System with ice and water shielding and a full synthetic underlay. They did additional valley work to prevent a return of ice damage. I initially relayed my issues, concerns and problems to Aaron and he translated them into roofing solutions. The roofing crews did the job exactly as had been described by Aaron including the special handling of several problem areas. Aaron did the original on-roof inspection returning to meet with the claims adjuster from my insurance company he made certain the adjustor considered every aspect of my roof . I did contact two other recommended roofers to look at the job, while both provided complete bids, neither seemed to have the level of interest or follow-up that Cardinal and Aaron had. In their defense this was during a very busy season with lots of storm damage to properties in the area, they did eventually me call back. On my recommendation two friends also had full roof replacements performed by Cardinal again with Aaron Wallis handling the projects. At the end of the job Cardinal Contractors provided a paid-in-full statement, contractors final release, full lien waivers and an Owens-Corning roofing system warranty document. Overall I was very satisfied, I would use Cardinal again.
