Chris and his crew did an outstanding job. From the very beginning when I met him for the estimate you could tell he was professional and conscientious regarding the work to be performed. He was very helpful with ideas and cared about the job being done right. After deciding to have him do the work, he stayed in close communication; started right on time and ended two days early! The job looks great-- we are very happy with the work.

There were some frustrating things working with them. He told us that he was going to come out and check things; then he just had his workers do that. They had power washed it before and there was still some mold and spider webs so we emailed him. He said they would take care of it and that the guys would brush off the mold and spider webs before they painted. We got the spider webs ourselves because we didn't want them painted in. Then they started painting over the mold and we asked them and they said they would scrub it. They scrubbed some of it but they didn't get all of it.

Chris, the owner, responded to my initial email within 24 hrs. The other two contractors I contacted were slow responding or did not respond, although they, like Alkema, had A+ ratings from Angie's List. Chris came to do an estimate almost immediately and emailed the detailed estimate the same day. One other contractor called back and gave an estimate at the end of the week. Once I accepted Chris's bid, the crew of 3 arrived at the precise time and washed the house. It was very windy, so other prep had to wait a couple of days. The crew came back the following week and completed the job in three days. Shawn was the main painter, and he was a pleasure to have around the house. He is a very conscientious and efficient painter. He finished the trim and cleanup on his own on the last day. During the job there were two very small mishaps: a broken piece of a gate and broken glass from a lamp taken down from the wall. To his great credit, Chris took these minor things as his personal responsibility and immediately offered compensation. This illustrates the fact that Chris sees his business and his work as an extension of himself, taking total responsibility for the little glitches as well as the overall quality of the work. He is the most attentive contractor I have worked with. He will be cleaning and sealing the concrete around the house when the weather is right, and it will be a pleasure to see him again.

By the end of the day, I had a written quote from them. It gave me different options that I could add into what I had wanted. I was in the process of letting them know that I have chosen them to do the first phase of the job. I had e-mailed them during the weekend. They called me on a Friday and set up an appointment for Monday. The gentleman was on time and was very professional. He answered all my questions. He walked through the house and talked about every room. He walked around the perimeter of the house as I wanted the trims painted. So far, I am very pleased with them. The quote was for a variety of jobs. They quoted me $625 for the painting materials and labor. The interior painting quote was for $1850, which would include rooms, bathroom, and the kitchen. The quote also includes the repair of the walls. They gave me many options. They called ahead of time and were on time for the quote. The guy was professionally dressed and behaved professionally. He understood some concerns that I had. I have an elder in the house. So, I told him that showing up on time was very important. He told that it wouldn?t be necessary to move my mother out of the house. He told me that he would do the work in parts and portions. He told me that he was experienced in doing the work. He also told me that there would be one person coming out, so there would not be a lot of confusion about people coming out. He took the time to address any concerns that I had. He told me how he would take care of the concerns. I can?t vouch for their work yet. I will use them in the future.

Excellent experience overall. Chris was very articulate and knowledgable and instilled confidence that his group would do a great job. He spent a lot of time discussing the job with me to make sure he understood exactly what I wanted done and he explained the necessary processes to do the job correctly. His workers were meticulous and courteous...I didn't see one drop of paint where it didn't belong. They even spent a great deal of time razor-blading old paint off the windows from previous (bad) paint jobs. The house looks great. Would definitely recommend them!

My interaction with the company went well. I was really impressed with him. He seemed like a very good guy. He came very close in terms of price that I went with. He was very professional and I got the impression that he was very trust worthy.

They were very responsive and professional. He gave me a detailed scope of work. The price was very close to the other estimates I received. We didn't go with them but we were impressed by their professionalism. I would definitely contact them if I had another project.

No contract was signed as of this date (09/11/2010).

Chris came to my home to look at the job. He then emailed me a detailed estimate. Their estimate was the highest, but I had a feeling that Chris was going to do the best quality of work on my home. He is very professional. His crew showed up on time. Chris was able to match the paint they used to the color of my shed perfectly! He guaranteed the paint job for 5 years, so if it chips or peels, they will come out and fix it. They said it would take about 5 days to finish the project, and the team was done in 4 days. They did a pretty good job and I am happy overall with my experience.

I had Alkema Painting back to paint my exterior. They did great prep, painted 2 coats and gave me a written guarantee. They were quick, professional, and priced right. I highly recommend them.

Chris and crew are very good, performs the work they say they will, does all the necessary preparation work needed, and clean up after themselves. Chris was very helpful in helping me select the paint colors to be used to cover the bland off-white walls. I was hesitant to go with much color, His recommendation (which has more color than I thought I would like) looks great! I am so glad I went with his recommendation!

The prep was outstanding. I was so pleased with how nice and clean they were. Chris let me know every step and used the best materials. Everyone was so pleasant and they worked fast. Chris finished when threy said they would and I'm very pleased. I plan on having them back next week to paint my exterior. Alkema went the extra mile.

I had Alkema refinish my 4 year old redwood deck. They cleaned it, sanded it, and put a sealer on it. It looks new. Im very happy.

This was an excellent experience for me. Chris came out to give me an estimate within 48 hours of my call. Together we examined the exterior of my home and he made recommendations. He worked around my work schedule and finished the job exactly on time. As this is a halfplex and only my side was done, I was very concerned that the color match my neighbor's. He matched the color EXACTLY -- you cannot see the difference between the two homes. Before he started he provided me with a detailed contract that clearly listed every aspect of the job. The estimate was much less than I had expected and it was exactly the price I paid. The work was done professionally and of the highest quality.
