We verbally agreed to a start date and price and he asked me to mail him the down payment. The check was sent and he called 5 days before he was to start the work and cancelled. Said he never received the check. Another check was left at his home that day within 30 minutes of receiving his text and he still refused to move forward with the agreed work!

I had contacted several remodelers who I had learned about from friends and material supply firms. Three did not show up as promised, two came to our home to estimate the job; one declined after he got a bigger job and the other one we never did hear from again. I had seen Joe's business card at a lumber store and called him. He came to our home, listened to what we wanted, made some suggestions and promised to give us a firm estimate and schedule. Within a day's time I had an estimate which was reasonable and a time when he could install the new railing and bannisters. The whole process took less than two weeks. Incredible. Joe showed up on time with all the supplies and equippment he needed to do a very professional install. I learned a lot just by watching and visiting. I also learned that he had contracted interior finishing on new houses for many years until the housing bust when he downsized his business to a direct customer remodeling service. I was very impressed with Joe's woodworking skills and attention to details. I would not hesitate to hire Joe for other home improvement projects.
