SAM'S RETAINING WALLS & HOME REPAIR

This is the third project that Sam's has done for us over the past 10 years. We are very satisfied with all of the work. Sam personally supervises the installation and makes sure it is done "right". They have well engineered construction, are efficient, and stand behind their work. Pricing is very competitive. We can highly recommend them.

Sam responded quickly and came out to my house to do an estimate. He showed me pictures of work he had done. My house was in his pictures and he did not do the work. In fact two of the pictures he has on Angie's list are of my house. He tried to say it was somewhere else but it is my property. He gave me a verbal but never sent me a formal estimate. I don't know about the quality of work he does but it's wrong to display my property as an example of his work when he did not do it..

Exactly the way Sam told me. He went above and beyond, doing several things to make the job better than excellent...like strawed and grass seed, made leaning fence straight, etc.

Sam came out to assess the job and gave me an estimate of the work. At that time he wrote the estimated cost on a business card. When we decided that we wanted to proceed with the work, he provided a detailed written proposal for us to sign. I first spoke with Sam in late September, signed the contract in October but he was not able to get to the job until January. His is a small company, just him and his crew, which we appreciated. We really liked knowing that the owner was on the job with his crew. This also means that a new job has to take its place in line. That was fine with us, we were in no hurry. The end result was very nice and well worth waiting for. Once they got started, they showed up bright and early each morning and completed the job quickly. Since the work was done in January, I had to wait a long time to get to my planting, but I've been having fun planting the swale Sam built behind the wall, with mostly Missouri native plants. Thanks to Sam and his crew I have a lovely improvement to my yard

It was a great decision!! The front of my house looks so updated and the new porch and steps are so comfortable to ascend and descend. Sam and crew tore out the old concrete and put in beautiful brick and stone. My paver patio in the back yard is the beginning of some overdue landscaping. Very pleased!

We hired Sam's Retaining Walls for a second backyard hardscaping project. Last year Sam and his team put up a 160 ft retaining wall along the back of our property, which was a monumental task. We reviewed that previously on Angie's list and gave Sam and team an "A" rating. This year we had Sam design (with us) a new patio with fire pit and stone wall seating. In addition a stone paver path was installed as was underground drainage and under deck stabilization including a sitting wall and rock. Finally Sam installed several flower beds and lined them again with pavers. Sam and his team did a great job again. Please note that he is meticulous and committed to doing a perfect job, from excavating through the limestone a few inches under our yard, to installing walls or pavers, to backfilling. Thus if you are expecting a quick job you will be disappointed. Sam's attention to detail meant our job took about about 5 weeks to complete. But we would far rather have a time consuming job done right than a quick job requiring repairs a year later. Also once Sam gets into a project he sees things that would make the project even better. I would recommend listening to his ideas as in our case they clearly made the final product better. Our yard now is the best that we could have dreamed it would be! Everything went well with no issues or problems. Initial schedule was a problem but Sam found a way to work in our small job.

Work was done some years ago now but I failed to leave review at the time because my Angieslist membership expired. The work is still under Sam's 10 year guarantee and in great shape, I am very happy with the results. Sam and his team of guys were professional, friendly and clearly experienced. They also had an obvious good working relationship with each other. They dealt with changes made to the design by myself mid way through which I'm sure must be annoying but they dealt with it professionally and fairly. I would recommend Sam to anyone that wants high quality retaining walls built the right way. His prices are fair and he goes all out for the customer including giving good advice on materials and other options.

Hired Sam to replace an old wall of railroad ties that was falling apart. The wall was 75 ft long and about 3-4 feet high. Sam replaced it with concrete wall block. I contracted with him in November but he was booked up till March. I didn't mind the wait. He completed the wall in less than a week. The wall looks great. He did an excellent job, making sure to route a drain pipe properly, fill in with dirt for proper drainage around the wall, and seed and straw when finished. His price was fair. It was in the middle of 2 other bids I had.

Great. We are thinking of asking them to next install a new patio in the backyard.

Sam and his team did a terrific job on this massive project. The team showed up bright and early every day, including on days when temperatures were beyond frigid. Sam is a straight-shooter and he and his team are all hardworking and diligent. It’s very clear they all take pride in their work. I think the overall price paid for this work turned out to be good relative to the difficulty level of this job and the quality of the work that was performed. One of my principal “asks” was that everything be constructed to last. The stairs and walls, aside from looking amazing, all seem extremely well constructed (Sam's education as a civil engineer was a major plus in our decision to go with his company) and he warranties the labor on his work. From my end, the project was basically on auto-pilot after the contract was executed, which was enormously helpful given that I work long hours and therefore didn’t have the capacity to micro-manage the project. The end products met or exceeded our expectations in every instance. Sam will be my first call to bid on any future hardscaping projects and I won’t hesitate to use him again or recommend him for other projects, large or small.

It was a free estimate. I might use them in the future for the first time. It was fine. Putting it off till the spring, I think.

Very professional. Excellent quality and really beautiful work. We have a small, strangely-tiered and oddly-shaped back yard that had a lot of problems. Sam assessed everything and created a truly beautiful back yard. Night and day difference from what it was before, and this was not an easy job because of many levels, many obstacles, etc. (Our back yard went from hideous to truly lovely within a week.) Sam is artistically gifted and created something we could not even imagine. I'd hire him again in an instant. I'd recommend him to anyone.

Sam and crew did excellent work. They were very timely everyday, kept a very clean job site and communication was great. Sam and team even went above and beyond by using some of the dirt they removed to raise a low spot in the backyard. Price was very reasonable and the quality of work was very good. Hire with confidence.

Great service...they dug a french drain in my backyard and with all the rain we got last year it was just in time. No more pooling water in my backyard. Excellent work.

We were disappointed that the work did not start when we initially expected. However, we did not send in our signed contract until several weeks after receipt. Sam received other signed contracts by this time which put those customers ahead of us. Top notch! Sam and his crew are great. Sam is a no BS guy - honest, fair, hardworking, and proud of his work (as he and everyone should be). He's got the right crew, too. Sam's quote was 1/2 of what a local fence company quoted. We were scheduled quick and the job was done in a few days. Cleaned up everything after. No complaints. 2 neighbors were impressed enough to stop by to get his business card. We're already looking to have more work done with Sam and his crew.
