We are heartbroken. Essentially, we tried to go with a small/local business, and we should definitely have paid more and gone with a larger/regional firm with appropriate standards of professionalism and quality of work. I think they were not equipped to handle a job of this scope, and I wish they'd considered that and declined the job. Now, I know that there are multiple perspectives involved here, and that there likely are some details I have remembered incorrectly or variables I forgot to include, but please know I am trying to be honest and fair in my recollection and representation of our experience. Steve and his crew are friendly/personable enough, and I want to give one compliment in saying that I felt safe with them in my home and enjoyed talking with many of his crew members. BUT, there's a caveat--there are some major flaws in the way the business is run and the way the business approaches its HR, and it all spills over and shows in the finished product of our house. Steve's always looking out for number one, and beware--that number one isn't you the customer, nor is it his crew/workers. It's him, and that's evident as well in the way the business operates. We often felt bad for his workers, and ultimately, we also felt bad for ourselves, because we have to live with the fallout of the major areas of concern in dealing with this business. We definitely don't want others to find themselves in the same boat we're in. As of now, we've followed up and asked for some of our money back OR to have the items at issue repaired by a different crew/company and the bill would go to Steve, but so far, they are claiming that most everything is just wear and tear and not their responsibility, etc. This is extremely disappointing to me, as I hate to end things on a sour note, and I have been open and honest in communicating with them and open to compromise to resolve these issues. We're at the point where we are considering either reporting them to the BBB or contacting an attorney, though we'd prefer to just work with them to settle the issues in a fair and ethical manner. It's been exhausting to deal with them. We have also had roofers, HVAC crews, and insulators work on the house leading up to this remodeling project, and we had none of these issues with any of their work or their workers. After saving up all our money for 10 years (over $110,000.00) and specifically asking Steve to do right by us, we ended up feeling betrayed at the end. We feel like he nickel and dimed us at every turn, his employees were often in over their heads or did not possess the appropriate skill sets for specific tasks (in most cases, this was not their fault), major items from the remodel began falling apart within months or were never completed correctly to begin with, and the business (though they claim to have a one year guarantee on work performed) refuses to take financial responsibility and allow us to have the problems corrected by a different company OR else refund us part of the money we paid. It really does boggle my mind, and it's upsetting, because we always paid on time, were courteous and generous to his staff (we didn't take issue or complain about them smoking outside, eating on the porch, charging their phones/car batteries, etc., and we gave them some cash bonuses at the end because many of them drove in from quite far every day and did not receive any allowance for that, and also because they did genuinely nice things like change a flat tire for me one day, etc.) We saved for a decade to have this work done, and now we are left with: *cracked/crumbling grout in multiple rooms (showers, walls, and floors--we were told that after only a few months' time, the cracking was "normal wear and tear") *a new back door and frame that literally fell off the house after a few weeks because it was installed with trim nails (I had to call my spouse and ask him to come home early because I did not know what to do) *an upstairs bathroom that does not work (leaks into ceiling still, despite us trying to get the issue addressed before the work was completed--we were told it was fixed or there was no issue when that was not the case as the first time the shower was used, seepage and stains appeared in our bedroom ceiling) *a toilet that sits out six+ inches from the wall and overlaps the doorway to the dressing room (plumbers/Steve claimed they would have had to do costly work to reroute the pipe or correct the issue, though the old toilet did sit flush with the wall, so I'm still confused about that) *window trim that is not nailed down securely because they did not go back and properly fill in the frames in the installation process on the new windows *wood floors that were refinished poorly and mismatched stain in some areas of the house *original, beautifully stained wood doors that were "cleaned up" with mineral spirits but not wiped down afterwards, so the lacquer/top coat has begun to bubble up and flake off *a ton of nails in the yard, oil stains in the driveway from a leak in Steve's truck, and cigarette butts throughout the property *a bill from our HVAC company, because the drywaller and/or Steve's regular crew nailed through our thermostat wiring because it was not properly run the way we'd asked for it to be *in one bathroom, tiles that cracked and broke after installation when the crew had to try to fix a plumbing problem, and they were just grouted together rather than replacing the broken tile (extra tile was available/left over) *HVAC venting placements that are asymmetrical and "wonky" in a noticeable way because no one centered them when reinstalling after drywalling *an antique restored cast-iron tub whose feet are now attached using sloppy construction adhesive *additional supply lines, parts and adapters for the clawfoot tub I had to purchase (roughly $250-$300), due to the fact that the lines were not installed by the plumber in the “standard” placement for a clawfoot tub *scratches on/in my new marble and tile floors because they did not keep paper on the floors until they were completely done with work *missing vent covers to the HVAC that have to be replaced because the crew would take them off to do work, then misplace them and not be able to recall where they were located; some got thrown out *a broken window in the basement; *a shrub I had to replace that got damaged from stuff being dropped out the window on it *ground/floor outlets on the 3rd floor were not installed flush with the floor, not to mention the issues with the plastic caps left on the floor plugs and just stained over AND THERE WERE MORE ISSUES...I just am running out of steam at the moment and need to come back and fill out the remainder of the list later. But the above list should give customers an idea of what's happening Here are some behaviors we witnessed: *One day, I came upon one of the employees peeing on the side of my house, even though they had access to the interior and four bathrooms to choose from *Bags of trash and meal/food debris were left on the front porch for days at a time on a regular basis; we had to pull our dogs out of them multiple times and found evidence of wildlife accessing them as well *The crew attempted to spray paint exposed (it's a console sink, so they're visible) plastic/PEX pipes with "nickel" paint as opposed to sourcing and using satin nickel fittings/pipe or stubbing out with copper, even though I was able to find most of the items they needed myself online and always offered to pay for/help located needed parts *His flooring guy walked off the job and delayed work for a long period of time (we kept our fridge in the dining room for a month, and we ultimately got charged an EXTRA $1000.00 for stripping wax off of floors, though I'm not sure how that entire cost should have been ours to bear) *We were told the project would take 9-12 weeks, and though we did change and add elements (so I could have lived with a extra week or two), they ended up being there for 18 weeks (February into July)...and stuff started breaking within a few months, which is unbelievable to me *The crews often were told to use the cheapest materials possible, and the approach to difficult projects was not a "standard of excellence," to say the least, but rather a "bubble gum and rubber bands," "bare minimum" philosophy
Description of Work: We have a very old house and finally saved enough money to do a first major round of renovations/remodeling. Here is a list of the things Remodeling Source performed: *complete renovation of four bathrooms *complete renovation of third floor (we did demo down to studs) *repair, sand, and refinish wood wraparound porch *refinish multiple wood floors and stairs inside the house *install some new kitchen appliances *interior painting *major plumbing (partially subcontracted) *drywall/plaster repair and installation *electrical work (partially subcontracted) *extensive tiling *fixing pocket doors *installation of new exterior door and storm door *installation of multiple new windows (not all the windows in the house, but probably 8-10) *some custom carpentry (building seat benches under windows, some millwork, etc.)
It went great. Steve was clear about what was in and out of job scope, fixed any mistakes without having to be asked for the most part, was done in less time than expected, and was a very reasonable price. The work his team performed was great. I had a wonderful experience hiring them!

My initial meeting with Steve (the owner) went very well. I really felt he had a vast knowledge when it came to remodeling. He had some very good ideas on how to finish my basement. Unfortunately, every phase of the project was plagued with problems. Most of them they took care of, but some they did not even after I asked about them. Some of the issues I had were: Framing: Some walls were not secure, they went back to secure them only after I showed them. As they framed around my fiberglass shower, they managed to damage it. It was fixed at their expense. I would have preferred they were more careful. Electrical: They wired my basement with 12AWG, the problem was they connected the 12AWG line to an existing light fixture that was running a 14AWG line . They were not going to do anything about it until I supplied them with the correct wire so it would all run off 12AWG. Drywall: They left numerous roller (trail) marks on the walls as they back rolled the primer. They didn’t properly roll out the primer and it left ridges in it from the edge of the roller. Some of these they fixed, others they did not even though I pointed them out. Painting: Despite what they told me, there was not 2 coats of paint applied to the walls. I showed them where white primer was showing through and the paint was thin. I had to go back and repaint several walls myself just so they looked right. I have several places where the paint has excessive picture framing. They also tried to touch up the ceiling in one area. It appears as if they used a different type of roller than what was originally used because there is a different texture that can be seen in these touch up areas. Plumbing: They reversed the hot/cold lines coming out of the wall for the sink (not standard). The shower head leaked out the wall. This was discovered after the project was finished. It took them 2 visits to finally get it corrected. The toilet leak where it attaches to the floor. It wasn’t properly secured to the floor and rocked. Because of this, it leaked and damaged my floor. They came back to shim the toilet so it didn’t rock, but didn’t do anything about my damaged floor. I tried repeatedly for over a month to get them to come back and fix the floor that the leaking toilet caused from being improperly installed After about 6 weeks of trying, I finally, was able to get one of their workers (James) to come and do something about it. After waiting around all evening for him he never showed up. The next day I contacted them and all I got was a text message with an apology. I really expected them to reach out to me and try to rectify the situation, especially since I was still under a warranty with them. Instead I was left feeling like they didn’t care. This was very disappointing. I really had high hopes that this company would exceed my expectations based on all the reviews I read, but they fell a little short. The project turned out ok, but there were too many mistakes made along the way. I think if there was more attention paid to the details and Steve had a greater presence on the jobsite overseeing construction and his workers, things would have been much better. ~

Erin was very responsive to our changing schedule as some of the other repair work we had done took longer than anticipated. The painters were very quick to give quotes on the additional work we wanted done (trim work, closets, etc.) The house looks great and the painting (ceilings, walls, trim, closets) for our 2200 sq foot house was done in 1 week.

I am selling my house and St. Louis county required that the chimney needed to be painted. The house is two stories so it is not an easy feat to paint the chimney. I was in a time crunch and the company was gracious enough to send their painter after hours so I could meet the deadline with the inspector. What outstanding service. I have used this company many times and they are outstanding

The process went well, however for us cost was the most important issue so we needed to make the less expensive choice on labor and modify the project. Otherwise, he would have been our choice. He seemed very easy to work with and I liked his vision for the project.

That was okay. We were living in another site. We were remodeling this house from Saint Louis and we needed somebody to do some painting and I was on Angie's List, got them in, and my daughter let them in the house, they left and that was it. The quality was okay. I didn't have any problems with them. The price was kind of high for what they did. They came when they were supposed to.

Overall it was a good experience. The largest nuisance was the time it took to complete the projects. You have to expect some delays, but unfortunately there would be days in which only one or two people would show up on the job. Steve was responsive to all of our requests and fixed the items that needed it. He was flexible to the things that we added along the way.

All in all, a worthwhile purchase, since it gives us specific information for our house. We have a couple higher-priority house projects before we can start the remodeling, but this was great information and gave us a better starting point for planning the basement remodel out.
Description of Work: Their guy showed up on time and listened to our basement remodeling ideas. He then advised us on what some rough costs would be, and suggested ways to stay with a lower budget but still have it look good. He spotted a couple additional potential issues with remodeling that we had not realized yet. No floorplan was provided, but that's not an issue since I already had one drawn out and we're still in the "idea" phase. We wanted the remodeling broken out into a couple "phases" and he provided an itemized worksheet of the project costs a couple weeks after the appointment.

The owner was on-time for our first meeting and provided great ideas for finishing our lower level expansion. He was very knowledgeable and I felt highly qualified to do the work. My only issue was the time taken to provide a cost estimate; which took four weeks to receive.
Description of Work: Provided a cost estimate for construction to expand our lower level. This was to include a fireplace and wet bar.
We did not go with Remodeling Source but they are our list for future projects. I would recommend them to anyone
Description of Work: Steve came to give us a bid on a basement remodel. The basement would required about 700 sq ft of finishing. He was great to speak to and was very professional. We received a drawing and a detailed proposal in a very timely fashion. The proposal seemed to be quite in line with other prices we received. It was very detailed and provided us with the options we were considering. The were a little slow to answer some of our emails about follow up questions though. .

It went really well, very professional and helped cement some ideas for the room. Unfortunately the estimate was a bit high and I had to go with an estimate that fit within my budget.
Description of Work: Provided estimate for basement remodel of one room.
Working with the Your Remodeling Source was a mixed bag. First, we met the owner in Home Depot where he offered some great suggestions as I was getting ready to run our electrical. Found out he had a remodeling company, read some reviews here and decided to have them come out to do an estimate. I had done a lot of the work myself, hired another crew to help with the framing but wasn't happy with how the soffits were built. Steve came in, recognized right away what was wrong and was able to make recommendations to fix and the framing looked great. They also fixed some other framing issues from the first crew and did a great job fire blocking. They did a good job running the electrical and getting things prepared for the rough inspection. Inspection went well, even though not all the electrical work had been done (missing fixture, old wire not pulled) and all was good heading into the home stretch for drywall. And this is where the problems started. During the estimate process, it was made clear that there were multiple crews that specialized in drywalling as we would "not want them to do it as they are slower and not as good as the drywall crews", which makes sense, drywall is an art. However, we did not get a drywall crew, it was the same crew that did the framing, the fire blocking, the electrical, it seems the other crews were working other jobs. I really liked the team working on the house as they were always on time, very friendly and worked very hard. As they said, they don't do drywall very often as it's difficult and not as good as the crews. It took them much longer than they expected to complete the job and although they tried hard, it definitely was not the best drywall job. Additionally, it didn't seem to matter how many times my wife asked to make sure that they remembered to cut the openings for the drain clean outs and spigot valves, they didn't cut them out always saying we know where they are and we'll get them done. So now everything is sealed up and we had no idea where the openings were. Here's where the lack of professionalism comes into play. After the drywall was completed they scheduled the prime and ceiling paint crew. I asked when they were coming out to inspect the drywall work but was told that they weren't planning on coming out for that. So in comes the paint crew and done in one day. Next day we receive the invoice for the services that were completed. All without anyone coming to look at the work, ensure that it was done to the level expected. I had to put together a list of issues for them to come look at. When Steve finally came to inspect the job, he started out with an attitude that we were an annoyance until he started looking at the work that was done. He started to realize that it wasn't done well and when he kept asking why it was done "that way", the gentleman that had done most of the work kept saying, "this isn't what we do". Steve marked up the walls and ceiling (now painted) to mark what needed to be corrected?..by the same guy that did the original work. Some of the items were fixed, others weren't and some that were, I wish they had just left alone. Again, I received an invoice and no one came by to inspect the work. At this point I was very frustrated and realized that this was as good as it was going to get. - We paid for the ceiling to be painted, but after the large number of fixes required, we had to repaint the ceiling again, money wasted. - We paid for an outlet that wasn't installed, so they installed it?by running the wire in the half inch gap at the bottom of the drywall, instead of cutting the drywall between the two outlets and running it thru, so I had to re-do that work. - Had to cut the openings for puck lights in archways where bare wires had been left behind finished drywall - Had to fix multiple places on the walls that were "finished" Overall this company has a lot of potential and the crew works very hard, is always on time and some of the best folks we have ever had come in to work on our house, and we have had a lot of crews for different jobs. Unfortunately they have either taken on too many jobs or it wasn't enough work/money to warrant full attention. That may be the case for them, but it's my home and I had put in months of time and effort on the basement to do it right, if it hadn't been for the good reviews, I probably wouldn't have hired this company. I'm not sorry I did, they did a good job on the framing and most of the electrical and it sped up the job. It's just unfortunate that the final part of the job, that is so critical for appearance was an after thought. It would have taken very little time for Steve to have stopped by every few days to correct things he saw not being done correctly or even to do a final inspection without asking. If you choose this company, just make sure that you get it documented about what is expected for the inspections, who is doing what work and the expectations on what is meant when the job is "done". Learn from my lessons and things will probably go very well and you will be happy to work with this company. Don't and most likely you will end up writing a review similar to this.

They were on time each day and did a great job. We had to have them come back out aftward to fix a spot we both missed. Honestly, I can't remember the details on the cost etc. What I do remember is that the painter was supposed to paint for 4 hours. He spent about an hour setting up so he actually painted for 4 hours. He refused to paint around the roof line, which is what I really needed. He said it was too high up. We have a 2 story house, nothing special. I didn't think to ask about this issue as I have a relative (out of state) who paints for a living and he would not have flinched at that; very normal expectation. Whatever I paid, I thought I got that much work done. I did not think it was a special deal though. The person who came was very polite.

We paid additional because we had them do a lot more painting. There were a whole bunch of different people coming out, there were always 2 guys for the painting. We asked them to give us a bid for the painting, and they added the hours of the big deal and told us that we had these many hours, and so we should choose what we wanted them to do. I just recommended them across the street to my neighbor. They are very honest and do good work.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and they were good. They came out within days after I bought the coupon. This was the first time I used them. I think the deal was for two men for eight hours, but they sent one man and spread the work over two days. So they were here for two days instead of one, but this did not matter to us. He painted one solid color on plaster walls so it was a little difficult. They did a really nice job.
