+ -1 moreOur home is about 30 years old and still had the original heating/air con system. It is in a rural area, built in levels up a hillside, and everything about it is nonstandard and quirky. There's no basement, so the furnace is in a very tiny room (with other equipment) just off the dining room. I sought bids from several companies and Charles VanBoening from Smith H&C was the only one who took more than 15 minutes to evaluate the situation. He really took the time to listen to our problems getting the house heated evenly and efficiently. He offered unique solutions and sent a detailed proposal with several options to choose from on components. The overall cost was very reasonable. . The actual installation of the Carrier system was done on time and the installers were very professional, Mr. VanBoening conveyed his plans to them and watched over the work. They persevered through the trickier parts of the work, constructing proper vents and fitting the equipment into a tiny space. They cleaned up nicely and took away the old equipment. We are very happy with the outcome of this renovation. It's quiet, it works reliably. I am already seeing a drop in electric bills. Everyone we dealt with from Smith seemed dedicated to doing a good job. They even called us a few days afterwards to see how it was going. I would recommend them without a doubt.
Description of Work: Install new electric heating and cooling system, added vent to previously unheated room, cleaned vents, upgraded and enlarged some vents, redesigned air intake to furnace.

Description of Work: I got a 95% efficient furnace and the lowest quality A/C. If I would have been told that they were giving me the lowest quality A/C I would have gone with a different A/C unit. The 95% furnace is only as good as the installation. They ran new metal ducting but did not seal or insulation one inch of it. At least 2 of the new duct work separated within 2 days of use. One register was never connected. They drilled two holes through basement wall and did not seal it properly. They distorted two ducting boots to the point that they are unserviceable. They did not cleanup after themselves. I had to pickup all their trash. The only things they removed was anything that they could scrap out for money. I believe that the reason I got such low quality service was because they under bid the job. This is not my problem, I was charged approximately $1,500 more, by Smith, than a whole house installation I had done by another company than installed higher quality A/C unit. I would not use this company again for any furnace or A/C work or repair. I could not recommend them to anybody. If you want a job done right I suggest that you do research and find someone else.

He talked a lot and talked about the company but he did not come prepared and we had to supply some of the part that he would have otherwise needed to complete the project. We called the company to complain about a week later. My husband was working a lot and didn't get back to them about a week later but when he called the company, they seem really defensive and just felt like my husband was just complaining about how much it cost which wasn't the case. He was friendly but he was not professional. They called us right back and they seem very helpful when we spoke to them in the office.
