They'll make promises they can't keep. Customer service is horrible. Their energy efficient overpriced windows leak and do not perform any better than cheap vinyl windows.

This was the second time we have had Anderson install windows for us. Like last time they were there in a timely manner and were very courteous. The install and clean up went quickly. I will always recommend Anderson for not only the quality of product but the wonderful crews they have.

What a joke. Placed a order 10 months ago and still haven’t received any of the order. Told them to cancel the order but they kept saying we will be out in a couple weeks The office manager tried to tell me they would negotiate after the order was installed. Anyone knows you negotiate before the job is done. But the bank is still sending me statements saying I owe the money. Be very careful with this company. If they are so far behind why would they continue to send sales people out. I believe I will have to have my attorney handle this What a shame for such a well known name

What a nightmare!! Signed a contract with them in May 2020. After finally trying to deliver the wrong door ( a common problem with this company apparently based on other reviews) late this fall they have had five different crews in here and it is still not right. Leaks at the bottom and I now have a worse problem than I started with. Maybe sometime in 2021 it will be addressed??????

The worst experience imaginable. We had the initial sales consult, provided all relevant information about our home and what was needed. We then paid the 50% down and signed the contract. A MONTH later the company decided to cancel because they suddenly cannot install the door. Of note, nothing changed about the information provided or the house during this time. The managers were rude, with one even hanging up on me when I demanded they honor their contract. They kept our money for over a month without any work performed and without any information changing.

Terrific! Everyone from the salesman through the installation team were wonderful. Windows came in on schedule and were installed soon after. This is the second home that I have had Andersen replace windows in with both experiences being excellent. They have a great product and are worth the money. Good customer service also.

I had Renewal By Anderson of St. Louis replace 16 windows in my home (all but the bathroom - it was less than 5 years old). These included a large triple slider at a corner, two kitchen windows at a corner, and two large double windows requiring center supports (other windows were standard single windows). Their consultant, Desiree Woodrow, provided a lot of detail and not only answered all my questions, but anticipated many of them. I had replaced windows previously in another home in another state, so I was familiar with the process and various products. I knew what I wanted to accomplish for my home for efficiency and comfort. There was a small wrinkle with measurements on a couple of windows but the issue was resolved perfectly and company staff always responded promptly. The installation crew led by Keith Radar was amazing - they worked neatly and efficiently and when they were done, it was nearly impossible to tell that a big, messy job had been done all over my house. My previous experience with window replacement was good related to the window quality and function, but a very bad one related to the mess that was made and left for me to clean up. They were a pleasure to have in my home. Keith took time to explain everything they found with the house structure when the old windows were removed and showed me all the details for how the new windows operated. The paperwork he left included a handbook for window maintenance and printed instructions for window operation. I'm thrilled with the window performance. My main floor is considerably more quiet, and I’ve already noticed that my AC is operating more efficiently in the recent hot and humid weather. I knew I wanted Renewal by Anderson windows so I didn’t shop around this time (my other home was in a desert climate so I did a lot of research then). Not only is the product great, but the customer service and installation quality is fantastic.

I had scheduled an appointment with them to get an estimate on replacement windows. The Friday before the appointment, their office called to confirm the time. On the day of the appointment, they were a No Call/No Show. When I contacted their call center, I was told that a "design consultant" was never assigned to me, so there was NO appointment. They were going to figure out what happened and get back to me. When I called a 2nd time and spoke with a different call center rep, I was told that there WAS an appointment -- but they couldn't figure out what happened. If this is how the initial interaction is with this company, I can't imagine what goes on after a customer signs a contract. I would never use this company.

We wanted to get new windows on the entire house. We stopped by their showroom of Anderson Renewal windows on a Saturday, and arranged for a home visit the next day. Nothing was said at the time about their business practices, although they did stress that they wanted us both to be home at the time. The person arrived the next day on time, and seemed professional. However, there were some statements that I really questioned. In reading about windows, I was told that I should look at the U factor, which is a measure of how the windows conduct heat. A low number is good. She told that the number did not matter. Indeed, I never could find the number in their literature or online, but had reason to believe that it might not be very good compared to others. She specifically refused to tell me the U factor. She said that the composite materials used by other companies were associated with lung disease comparable to that caused by asbestos. I looked this up in the medical literature (I am a physician), and although there were a few papers about the subject, it appeared to be the general consensus that the fiberglass did not cause lung disease. She told he that the fiberglass would need to be polished frequently and the house would smell like a speedboat. She made some other rather outrageous statements. There was one window that was a bit complicated. She blew it off and said that they could bid it separately. She clearly did not want to bother with figuring out the details until I had agreed to get the windows. I was not impressed that she could not bother to think about what to do there. At the end of the process, she gave me a verbal quote of about $44,000 for the windows, but said that if I signed up in the next 5 minutes it would be $36,000 or some such. I almost fell off my chair, as I have never seen such a business practice. She gave me a single sheet of paper with a number on it, which I think was the $44,000 number. There was no details of the windows and what they would look like. We got bids from 2 other companies, and both gave us detailed quotes that listed the windows and their sizes and the types of windows. She said that she would not do this as the competitors might steal their ideas. After asking her 3 times if she was totally bonkers to want me to sign within 5 minutes or pay an extra $8,000, she did say that there was a recividism law, which means that if I signed a contract I could get out of it in the next 3 days. (I think that was the term, maybe I got that wrong.) I was never given any warning that this would be their business practice. When we visited the store the day before, there was no mention that we would not be able to read over the bid and think about it. Indeed, our final choice of windows changed slightly over time (type of window, adding grids or not adding them), and we needed time to think about it. This bid was done on Sunday, and the next day was a holiday. I did not actually trust that I would get my money back, as I figured they would find some way to say I did not do it within 3 days. It is possible that their windows are fine. I hate to give something a D when I did not actually get the work done, but I thought their business practices bordered on the unethical. I might have purchase the windows if they had not acted in this way.

While enjoying the Butterfly House in Chesterfield, I saw a marketer for Andersen. I am in need of a replacement sliding patio door and possibly some windows, so I approached her and decided to schedule a consultation. I don't know whether she is an employee of Andersen or independent, but she was polite, helpful, and professional. As she called in to request the appointment with Andersen's call center, I did get the sense that she had little control over the process. I'm the sole homeowner, and I intended to meet their consultant myself during business hours. When the marketer called in the appointment, Andersen's call center rep said they WOULD NOT schedule the appointment unless my wife would promise to be present for the consultation. I was very put off by this. Also, the rep wanted to speak to me to verify my information, so the marketer's phone was passed to me, rather than the call center rep contacting me at my number. It didn't feel like verification of contact info and desired repairs as much as proofing the marketer's work, almost like they don't trust that the marketer isn't 'making up' leads... I have come to understand that this is a national call center and was told that these marketers are not just commissioned but have quotas. I was starting to feel like this 'consultation' was going to be just like the last time I stupidly let a Kirby vacuum salesman (make that sales TEAM) in my door and couldn't get rid of them. Regardless, I set the appointment, even though my wife is very busy and in the holiday season, doubly so. Of course then I looked at reviews here and elsewhere, I see repeated complaints about the requirement of the spouse's presence, and I see repeated responses from Andersen that it is not a requirement. That is a flat out lie. The rep would not schedule the appointment without that promise. I called a few minutes ago and politely and succinctly told them that I would not like to reschedule and instead want to cancel it entirely. When asked the reason, I said I was no longer interested getting an estimate from Andersen. The rep on the other end acted confused and said "Well, Mr M.., when you spoke with our representative you did express that your current windows you are experiencing some drafts and it looks like the current windows do not work properly. Is that correct?" Was I supposed to suddenly realize the reason I had initially scheduled the consultation and then want nothing more than to schedule another appointment? This redirect is typical of sales reps, but I still find it annoying and condescending. (I also never mentioned drafts or broken windows; just that the windows were 15 years old and may need to be checked out.) I make it a point to avoid businesses that are dishonest, condescending, and don't respect my time. I'm glad I cancelled and won't bother dealing with them again, although I did foolishly sign a form consenting to be contacted by email and phone, so I'm sure I'll be hearing from them again and again, as usually happens when sales people get your consent... Hopefully they will respond to this review and say that the spouse's presence isn't required. Yet again.
Description of Work: Scheduled a consultation. I cancelled before they were to arrive.

A woman came to our door to see if we wanted a quote for window replacement. We are actually in the market for some new windows and decided to schedule an apptmnt. The representative called the company to schedule a time and stated it would take 90 minutes ( which seems a bit long) and then my husband was told both of us would need to be there, but I would not be able to be there due to kids' practices and such. The rep was on the phone with the company and said we both would need to be there so my husband said no thank you. Unusual practices for just a quote.

Response from Renewal by Andersen of St Louis MO
Thank you for your feedback and I sincerely apologize for your recent experience. Let me assure you that Renewal by Andersen does not require all homeowners to be present during an in-home consultation. Many of our locations may ask if all homeowners can be present as we have found over the years that given the nature of the project our customers actually prefer this type of consultation. It is, however, absolutely not required. If that is not preferred or convenient for you we will be happy to set up an appointment that works for you. Again, thank you for your feedback.

The woman on the phone goes thru a number of questions and said they were to see if they could even help me. First I find that off-putting like they are the 'customer' and they may or may not choose to work with me. It's windows, either you replace them or you don't. Though as they were going thru, the questions were clearly sizing up the potential $. At the end of the 'interview' she said they ask two things before they come out and that was that they have a minimum of 2 hours onsite and that all home owners be present. Two hours hinted a little towards 'high-pressure' sales presentation and a salesman that won't leave my home, but I overlooked and went on. However, I was more concerned about having to have both owners present, when trying to pin my partner down for a 2 hour sales presentation is going to be a little difficult. Plus, I am the one that takes care of the house projects, so there is really no need for him to be present. Of the two times they offered as available, I chose the evening appt (6pm) so we would both be home. The woman on the phone said she then had to get her supervisor on the phone to confirm the appt. Again -strange. As I was on hold, I went to verify w my partner on the time and of course of all evenings -he had a 7pm appt which would conflict with the 2 hour minimum. When the mgr got on the phone, I let her know of the conflict and she offered 5 or 5:30. I mentioned that earlier would not really work, but I really make the decisions on these projects and is this 2nd request 'in stone' as I would be happy to still meet w them and she repeated from her cue card, that "we are available 7 days a week for appts" (aka no). I said ok and thank you. Very strange phone call. Andersen you just lost my business and sent me to Lowes. Then again I guess that is acceptable per your customer 'hand selection' policy. Update 2016-01-14 Fellow Angie's List members, this policy of requiring both owners to attend the pitch is again COMPLETELY TRUE as I have no reason to make this up. Furthermore, the main 800# just called me 5 minutes ago AGAIN (after requesting to be removed from the list previously) with information on their latest and greatest sale. I informed the girl that when I tried before to get a quote, they would not come out because both owners would not be present and she again stated off the cue card that they have very flexible hours. I explained again that this is all fine and dandy but the other owner wants nothing to do with bids, so again only one would be present so this would not work. Yet gain, to no surprise, her response was NOT to go ahead and make the appointment as a normal business would, but rather saying she is "sorry to hear that" and something to the effect of 'thank you for your time" then disconnected the call. Also know that prior to this call today and after the original appointment phone call, I continued to receive multiple hang up calls from the 800# and when I finally picked up, I had a call exactly as just described and ended with 'please take me off the list" only they did not.
Description of Work: I have 35 year old single pane wood windows, so am in the market for new windows. I have had one quote so far from Lowes. My current windows are Andersen and my neighbor recently recommended them for replacements. Then I recently received another Andersen flyer in the mail, so I called the number to request a quote and was unable to get one.

I ended up not buying because they were too expensive. We love them and all of our windows are Andersen wood windows. We are going to go the off brand route because it doesn't need to be the same quality as the rest of the house. They are absolutely great and their work is impeccable. If we were staying here in the long term, we would probably use them but eventually we will be selling our house. The quote was between $3,500-$4,000. It was a very good system. They also have an off brand that they sell in a big box store so that is probably what we are going to do. They are wonderful and couldn't be nicer. They don't hound you. They are a wonderful company. We probably couldn't get that particular door any lower.
