These guys were hard workers. Once they showed up they didn't waste any time. They loaded up beds, couches, refrigerators, etc. and made two trips that were only about 2 miles away. There was a delay caused by their truck breaking down on the second load. It wouldn't start. One of guys worked hard to procure a new part for the truck and got it working in about 1.5 hours. I do have to commend them for fixing a bad situation in a timely manner. My biggest complaint is that they were about 2 hours late showing up in the first place and the communication on why and when they would eventually get to our house was somewhat lacking. In the end it didn't impact us too much. The price was very good and it ended up costing less than what I was expecting. I will use these guys again.
Description of Work: We had them move the bigger items into our new house which was only 2 miles away.

Description of Work: This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor of any sort. Multiple pieces of furniture were damaged and they took no ownership. We ended up in arbitration with the BBB and came to a final settlement (which they had to be reminded multiple times to pay) which did not come close to fixing the damages and was only a small reimbursement for the damage they caused. Read their insurance language; it essentially covers only solid wood furniture. They damaged 7 pieces of my solid wood furniture, but refused to take ownership or turn it into insurance. In my opinion, no price is worth the headache or the aftermath. I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for moving services.

You're a real piece of work [removed members name], the BBB closed this case twice before your persistence was so annoying that I told them I'd give some money so you could move onto your next complaint against a fantastic & reputable company! It has been almost two years since we even moved you, wow. Move on Sir, you are on our blacklist of customers that we wouldn't help for $1,000,000.00... You are lying and your story has changed yet again. This can be seen on the StL BBB website as well. We see over 6,000 customers a year and have had a total of 4 complaints in 5 years. Statistics do not lie.

Things went really well! The movers called when they were on their way with an ETA of how long it would be before they were at my apartment. They explained all the paperwork then started working and there were no extra charges or fees that were unexpected. The movers had to carry all of my items up two floors to move it and not once did they complain about the heat or the extra work to carry things upstairs. They were very efficient not wasting any time which is good as I was paying by the hour. They were very careful in taking the furniture apart and reassembling it at my new home. If there was a chance that something could get damaged in the truck they explained that to me and gave me the choice to move it in my personal car or to have them put it in the truck. I opted to move the lamps and very personal items myself but after using this company I would trust them in the future. When we were at the new home they did their best not to scratch or nick the walls un-necessarily . It was raining out so they did their best to cover my wood items so they would not be damaged by the rain. The movers were very polite and if I wanted something moved within the room at the new home they moved it without issue. Overall I had a wonderful experience and would be happy to use this company again.
Description of Work: They helped me with a full sevice move from an apartment to my new split level home.

The end results were an absolute disaster. During the move, 7 out of 10 pieces of bedroom furniture were damaged by movers. We offered the mover the opportunity to rectify/correct the damage but these efforts were ineffective and unsatisfactory. After the conclusion of this, we informed Mantle's of this situation, offering to either accept a full refund or the claim owed by insurance. Information was provided for insurance claim to be processed. To date, neither a refund has been provided or information regarding the insurance settlement. I would not recommend this contractor to anyone. The end results border on negligence (how can you damage 7 of 10 pieces if the work is executed correctly) and the lack of responsiveness and rectification is unacceptable. Should you decide to hire a contractor to help with you next move, I suggest you do not hire Mantle's Moving.
Description of Work: Mantle's Moving performed partial move of home furnishings (bedroom furniture, other large items). Mantle's moved only large furniture as all fragile and small items were moved by ourselves. Total moving distance was 12 miles (according to internet based mapping information).

I hired this company because my neighbor had previously used them and had a GREAT experience ? so I called and was informed my move (after explaining in detail ALL OF MY BELONGINGS) would take no more then 3 hours and I would need NO MORE then 2 men. When the move date came there were ONLY TWO GOOD THINGS that happened that day: The movers arrived on time, and seemed friendly enough. When the movers arrived my girlfriend and I were not fully packed so as the movers took our boxes we had packed, we finished packing everything into boxes and then took our clothing to our cars. It took the movers 3.5 hours to move a ONE BEDROOM/ONE BATHROOM apartment which HAS AN ELEVATOR. Ridiculous. It started getting REALLY BAD when the movers (who seemed nice enough) started telling me they were thrilled my move was taking so long because they hadn't gotten much work lately and needed the money. Not only is this COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE (even as a joke) it makes me feel as if you're slacking to take MY HARD EARNED MONEY! When the move finally came to my new home it took about 1.5 hours to unpack. I appreciated that the movers took the headboard off my bed and put it back together. But, that was the only thing to say thank you about. I started looking over my pieces of furniture and noticed some things were broken, scratched, chipped. But, I didn't say anything to the movers and decided I would call the owner Monday. I asked one of the mover's what the company price was to move and he told me $75 dollars an hour. That seemed strange considering I was told it would be $300 for three hours but, whatever. So - when they were finally finished (after FIVE HOURS) the "main mover" (I won't say his name, but it starts with a "K") told me my total was $500.00. That was another weird thing to me. So as I was computing how this could possibly be the price ? "K" then said "And the tip is mandatory today". Now, while I understand this was meant to be a joke ? it is AGAINST THE LAW. Soliciting a tip is equivalent to stealing something worth $500. Not cool. The worst part about coming to me and asking for this money was they are two very large men. I am a small woman and was alone in my home when they stood over me "demanding" a tip. While I didn't think they were going to hurt me ? it is intimidating. ck It is my fault I didn't do more research about what to tip movers (which normally is about 5% for each mover), but I was trying to be generous so the day before I took out $150 in cash to tip the movers with and put it in a special place in my wallet. When I went to get that money ? it was gone. I cannot say for sure that one of the mover's STOLE FROM ME, but nobody else went into my apartment or had access to my wallet. After all the money had been paid I was NOT GIVEN A RECEIPT! Thank goodness I had gone to the ATM and taken out extra cash so I could tip. I handed "K" $100 (in 20's) and said is this enough and he told me "most people tip a little more" so I eded up giving them $140 dollars. "K" then said I guess that is all right. Wow. Way to be grateful. I was SO UPSET about my move that I called the owner on Monday and told him the story. The first time I spoke to him he was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. He actually begged me NOT to write a review on here and said we could figure something out. I told him I didn't want a free move (since I won't be moving anytime soon) and wanted him to talk to the movers and I would think about it. When we talked next he told me that "It was my mistake" "It was MY misunderstanding" "They were just joking" I was appalled. Here I am a customer telling him my concerns and he has ZERO sympathy. He also told me that my total was $450 dollars. This was very confusing to me considering I had heard WAY TOO MANY DIFFERENT STORIES ABOUT WHAT I SHOULD HAVE PAID! I was pretty upset with his unwillingness to work with me so I had my girlfriend call and he was rude, and unapologetic to her as well. We decided to wait some time hoping he would think it through and see that in business ? "The customer is always right". THAT IS NOT HIS MOTTO. I JUST got off the phone with him. I called and told him that I think I deserved $240 back to me for my tip and for the move discrepancies or that I would write about my experience on Angie's List. My thinking was this: if you just did what I wanted I wouldn't write an awful review, but I would just not say anything or recommend you. But, if you can't even try and make this right at all: people deserve to know. So, after telling him this he told me "I couldn't bribe him." I was lying about "K" telling me my move was $500. I should have been smarter about my tip money and it was my fault. All in all DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! They will take WAY TOO LONG, "UPCHARGE YOU," break your things, and then do absolutely nothing to make it right. I am so completely disgusted with the owner, I ended up hanging up on him because he was so insulting. I am still incredibly upset.

Response from Mantle's Moving Company of St Louis LLC
On Sept. 29, 2012 we had a scheduled move with the Member and she had received the scheduling confirmation email which explains the services ordered, date and time agreed to move, hourly rates and minimums payment info, insurance info, customer responsibilities, etc… she also received a phone call 2 days prior to moving to ensure that she was prepared for move day and to see if there were any last minute questions she may have thought of, every customer receives this call. So upon arrival she lets the movers know that she had a long night out and was not completely packed, she told the crew she would “take care of them” if they would just help. The crew also informed me that she did not have the elevators reserved at either high rise loft buildings she was moving from and to, these are the 2 reasons that her move took 5 hours. She was estimated between 3 and 4 hours from the initial call, all 1 bedroom lofts and apartments with standard goods are estimated at this time frame. All moves have a 3 hour MINIMUM and 1 HOUR TRAVEL FEE, her move still only took 5 hours with us packing and moving her overfilled bins and unclosed boxes that she had begun to pack, and had us finish helping. These are situations that we try to avoid by putting helpful preparation info on our website ****.com and also doing the final confirmation phone calls. During the move checked in with the crew a couple of times and 20 minutes prior to completion her bill was settled and the crew leader, Kenny collected the bill and while Ryan completed her move by bringing the last few things. A few days later I received a phone call from the Member explaining that she was not happy with her move that was completed over the weekend, I politely asked her what happened and how I could help her feel better about the situation. She told me her initial story and then immediately called the crew that handled her move. I called the crew members back to back and got the same reaction and story from both men, they were shocked that she had any complaints! The both went on to remind me of the situations that slowed the move down and why it went over the estimate, I am a professional mover as well so I totally understand these situations. I called the Member back and was not able to get too deep into the situation because she was at work. I did hear back from her several days later. When I did speak to her I broke down exactly why it went over, she then went on to talk about over tipping and I explained that gratuities are not mandatory they are commiserative to performance, which is worded the same on the contract she signed. The movers must have been pretty satisfactory at the time because she did give them $70 each. Her bill was $450.00 + her gratuity of $140 = $590 / not $640 that she is claiming. This is when she asked for a refund of $100 because she felt like she spent too much money on her move, basically she wanted part of the gratuity back, I was persistent in conversation and my explanation that the bill was right at the hours of labor it should have been because she was not prepared, not packed, no elevators reserved meaning we had to share with others moving in and out, inconveniencing them as well, etc. She seemed to understand when we got off the phone, it was a 40 minute conversation, within minutes I get another phone call from her girlfriend who was trying to be more aggressive in her tone that they want some money, I explained to her the same things as I had just did to the Member, I do not just give cash back, unless there is a claim of damage to insured items, eventually she seemed to understand where I was coming from. About a week later 10/13/12 I received a call from the Member on a Sunday afternoon demanding that I give her $240.00 or she was going to bash me with an awful review on Angie’s List, I was very quick to tell her this situation was resolved in my view and I thought they felt the same. I will not be BLACK MAILED by anyone and she had contradicted her story so much that I wouldn’t give her the money she demanded. I do not black mail or bribe people and will not let people do it to me! She did exactly what she was going to do and completely falsified a new story on my company, crew members, and the way I conducted myself in our previous conversations. Unfortunately the customer is not ALWAYS right, like trying to bribe my crew and black mail me for half of her bill to be refunded. We are a small family owned and operated business and cannot hand out money to people even it is to avoid this type of slander. Sincerely, Timothy Mantle – Owner

We had a horrible experience with Mantle's Moving. We hired this company because it was less expensive than other movers we had used in the past, and we were moving literally across the street. We should have known something was up when the owner, Tim Mantle, told us we had to pay the movers in cash at the end of the move. We moved from a second floor apartment to a third floor condo. Tim did not ask whether there were elevators in either building. Two "movers" show up on time, in a rented truck, and with no moving blankets. It became clear pretty quickly that they were not professional movers because they did not know how to disassemble basic furniture, did not have the correct tools, and did not know how to carry furniture through doorways without breaking the furniture or the trim on the doorways. We were originally quoted that it would take 5 hours to complete our move. At the end of the 7th hour the move was about half way done. Tim said this was because he did not know that there were no elevators in either building. Fair enough, but he did not ask whether there were elevators when he gave my estimate, and there is not a single building in the area that does have elevators (other than a 15 story high rise). At the end of the 8th hour, I called Tim to let him know that the movers were sitting in their truck smoking cigars, hitting on my neighbors, and waiting for their friends to bring them dinner. I informed Tim that I had no problem with the movers taking a break, but that they had had a total of about 90 minutes of breaks throughout the day and that I did not want to pay for the time they were on break. Tim told me that his movers were entitled to take all the breaks they wanted, I had to pay for the time they were on their breaks, and I should go to the ATM before the banks closed so that I was sure I would have enough cash to pay in full or else we would have a problem. Things went down hill from there. By the end of the 10th hour my brother and I finished the move ourselves and asked the movers to leave after they yelled at my wife for telling Tim that they had taken a break. One of the movers managed to make several lude comments to my sister-in-law on the way out. The next day, Tim called me and told me his movers left some tools at my former apartment and I was required to reimburse him for the value of the tools. I informed him that I did not have his tools and would certainly not pay him any more money. I would strongly suggest using a more reputable company rather than Mantle's Moving. The owner apparently just pays a couple people who are not professional movers to show up and make a stressful experience much worse. We have used 2 Men and a Truck before that move, and since then and were very happy. Ironically, even though 2 Men and a Truck charge a higher per hour charge, the move I had with them after my Mantle disaster was actually less expensive because the movers knew what they were doing and were able to complete the move much faster and without any damage to my home or property.
Description of Work: Mantle's Moving moved me from an apartment to a condo across the street from the apartment comples. They showed up on time, but took approximately 30% longer to complete the work. They did not use moving blankets for furniture, did not cover the floors, or protect the doorways.

I, Timothy Mantle - Owner of Mantle's Moving Company, LLC will be contacting Angie's List first thing Monday morning. This complaint was sent to the BBB of St. Louis last year, 2011, and the BBB sided with us after I sent them the signed contract, estimate and copies of the emails exchanged confirming everrythong we discussed. This was also removed from YELP.com due to slander and hearing the whole story from us as well. Whoever reposted this on this site should be ashamed of themselves for trying to make a great moving company with a great reputation look bad. I am certain that this will be removed off of this site as well due to this not being legit. Sincerely, Timothy Mantle - Owner/ Operator Mantle's Moving Company of St. Louis, LLC 314-578-3105

They advertize that they will box items. They are not clear that you should purchase boxes in advance. The boxes they did bring when I didn't have enough were expensive and inappropriate. They did poor job of packing. They loaded things hapazardly except for dishes which they did wrap. The boxes were only partially full because no effort made to arrainge items in the box, therefore I spent more money as moving price highter. Some boxes too big and heavy things put in them, some too large but had really small items. The men were very nice, really liked them and they did act professionally. However, the mentioned many times that they were running late and had a wedding to go to, and I let them rush and job not done as well as it should have been. However, they broke one dresser drawer becasuse the moved the dresser with the drawers full. Also, broke door on a shelf. I unfortunately signed at deliverly without complaining about this and manager made no effort to even say he was sorry. This wasn't the worse mover but sometimes you get what you pay for and it wan't a real bargain,. Don't asked them to pack!
Description of Work: I was moving from a condo which was down one level approximately 10 miles to apartment on ground level. I moved two bedrooms, combo living and kitchen, two baths. I did have a large walkin closet with shelving that had to be moved. No appliances. They had a quoted special but I was over due to number of extra boxes and extra to "pack" my items that weren't packed yet.

Like you said you didn't mention any of your complaints suing or after the move to me, so I couldn't apologize without knowing of any dissatisfaction. The boxes you purchased from us were definitely better than the boxes you had for us to use as we purchase from a movers supply warehouse. I do apologize now that I know a year after the fact. Sorry for any inconvenience. Tim Mantle- Owner/ Operator MMC-StL LLC

I ordered a piece of furniture and scheduled a delivery. At the time of scheduling I requested to be contacted one hour before the arrival. Rodney and Tim called exactly one hour before they arrived. I needed two pieces of furniture moved in order place the new piece. Rodney did this with a smile! The new piece was set in place and the mirror was attached. These guys were so nice and professional. While I only had one piece of furniture delivered - Mantel's Moving Company is a full service moving company. I cetainly would contact them again either for a move or delivery.
