American Roofing Contractors

Description of Work: This company was subcontracted by AARP (The Hartford Home Owners Insurance) to replace our roof last year (2014). They did a very good job. They sent 5 men out, they worked fast, and had most of it finished in one day. |Only c/o, if any, was they worked from very early morning until too dark to see any longer. It was extremely hot that day. The men were 'Green Card' workers from Mexico from what I understood when I was called a few days later by a woman from the firm asking about our satisfaction.I am a retired nurse, and this working all those hours on a horribly hot day doing this sort of work bothered me very much. I can't say if, or how many 'breaks' the men were given.

Description of Work: Removed old roofing, replaced with new shingles and underlayment. Had their own receptacle for old roofing removed. Five men worked from 7am until too dark to see any longer. One man returned next morning to complete the job. All workers were foreigners, some could not speak English. All workers arrived together in a cargo van with out of state license plates. I did call the company over this entire situation, as I did not want work on my home done by anyone who shouldn't be here in the states. Was told they all have "Green Cards". They cleaned up the nails with a magnet apparatus. Found water bottles under landscaping after the job was completed, as well as many nails. The painter sent for the inside ceiling damage was on his first job alone. I had to call about an area that was not satisfactory. The man who apprenticed him came out and repaired that ceiling area. The name of that company is "Grey's" or "Gray's" Painting I was told. Also, that they do the work for American Roofing when the repairs included require painting. I was extremely disappointed to find American Roofing, nor the painters are non-union. Had I been aware of this, I would have attempted finding someone else. |We wanted to upgrade to Architectural Shingles, but they wanted an additional $800.00 to do that. (As it was, we had received a bid of $4,500.00 to do the job WITH architectural shingles, but had already signed a contract with American Roofing.)I feel they are over priced, although they do keep their word about coming back until you are satisfied with the job. |No, I would not use them again.
