We called Academy Air on Christmas Eve morning when our heat wouldn't work. We were having our family get together Christmas night and we were very worried. Mike came out quickly after we placed the call and we were surprised that there weren't any holiday or overtime charges- Mike said they never charge to work after hours or on holidays which was nice. Mike found (and happily showed us on his meter- my husband is an electrician and wanted to see what he was testing!) a defective blower motor. After offering to repair it , we inquired as to whether or not it would be better to replace the system instead. He was very helpful in reviewing all of the options and measuring the house to make sure we got the right size. We decided to go with a new high efficiency system and they said, much to our surprise, that they could put it in first thing in the morning on CHRISTMAS DAY. Needless to say, we were thrilled. Mike put a temporary motor on before he left so we had heat until then. The install team arrived promptly at 7am to make sure we had plenty of time before our Christmas gathering. The installation could not have gone smoother and everyone who came to our home was very professional and courteous. They all wore foot protectors so they wouldn't track in dirt and they laid down protective coverings everywhere they would be waking to ensure that our floor was 100% protected. Our new furnace was up and running with plenty of time to spare before our gathering and I could not be happier with the incredible service, professionalism and experience we had with Academy Air

I called because we didn't have heat. It was after hours so I talked to their answering service and they had a service man call me and he called less than 15 min of my phone call. He was at our house in less than one hour later. He found a dirty flame sensor, cleaned it and heat was working after that. The service man explained that if I had maintenance done regularly I could avoid this problem. So I decided to sign up for their maintenance agreement which gave me a discount on this visit. I will be having maintenance soon. I am impressed by how quick, kind and professional everyone was to me. Also, I found out that they do not have any overtime charges.

It was beyond what I could have expected. So positive! I can trust them to give me an honest evaluation. Very refreshing these days!
Description of Work: I had no heat and booked a service call. When the technician arrived, on the early side of the time frame I was told, it turned out to be an issue with my filter. The technician instead of charging me for the service call, performed what they called a "24 point tune up". He cleaned and checked all the components of my furnace assuring proper working order. When we had the subzero temps I assure you I had no fears that my furnace was up to the challenge!! I also want to give big thanks to the girls in the office! They were so polite, compassionate and helpful!

We cannot say enough nice things about this company. Service technician Mike came out to inspect a pipe that had begun leaking in our steam heat system. This was our first time using Academy Air. Last year a different heating company had been out to repair nearby sections of pipe twice. Mike recognized a problem that our previous heating company had failed to diagnose - our asbestos insulation had become damp and was causing the pipe to rust and corrode. After we had a company that specializes in asbestos abatement come to remove the insulation, Mike came back out to inspect the rest of the pipe and make repairs. He was professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and punctual. Most importantly, he seemed trustworthy and performed the work for the lowest possible price. We went ahead and signed up for the annual service plan and will continue to use this company in the future.

As an allergy sufferer in the St. Louis area, I can really appreciate this company and their ability to always keep my A/C and heating running effectively and efficiently. While there may be other companies out there which have low mark down?s on their services, I believe they are not nearly as effective as Academy Air when it comes to servicing your equipment at your house. I have a maintenance agreement with this company and they always provide maintenance on my equipment and point out things that will help my equipment last longer. Also they always remind me when I need to consider changing the pad for my humidifier since I am really allergic to mold. It?s the small stuff that counts, and I really appreciate the fact that they provide exceptional service and are very trustworthy as a company.

Service technician was very patient and answered all my questions and explained why I need a maintenance check twice a year. There were no additional charges. He was very professional and knowledgeable about the workings of my unit. I felt very comfortable with his answers. I have used Academy Air for my service for many years and have never been disappointed.
Description of Work: Provider did bi-annual maintenance check on my furnace and ac. They always check for gas leaks and carbon monoxide levels for safety.

Dishonest service tech, Steve. He did not honor the advertised discount. He said he sold new units, and immediately concluded that my system could not be repaired, but needed to be replaced by a new unit. I guess he needed more sales. But I needed repair, not a new system. This place is a ripoff.
Description of Work: The service tech started a diagnostic and repair, but then he said that he couldn't guarantee that his repairs would be successful in getting the furnace to run. He stated that the system needed to be replaced,

VERY DISHONEST SERVICE TECHS - They tried to charge $513 for a control board that was NOT BROKEN. I told them I would fix it myself or go elsewhere. They charged $90 for "diagnostic fee". OK...fine.. After replacing the board myself(cost $169 retail), it did the exact thing it was doing with the "bad" board...Hmmmm, must not have been the board after all. I cleaned the flame sensor and it worked fine! I re-installed the original board and it still worked perfectly! They either price gouged because snow is on the ground and you need heat, or their "senior" tech misdiagnosed it. Either way, they don't deserve $90 for what they provided. They deserve to be prosecuted. THEY WILL CHARGE YOU $500 even when a piece of fine sandpaper and 30 seconds will do the trick. Do yourself a favor and CALL SOMEONE HONEST...NOT THESE GUYS!!! These people will rob you blind! They are either crooks or don't know what they are doing...either case means you are spending more money than you need to. I called and asked to speak with owner and they would not give me his/her number. What is he/she hiding from, other ticked off customers? SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! I wonder how many senior citizens they have scammed? How many homeowners without furnace skills have they taken advantage of?

[member name removed] elected to not use our service because of price and we never charged him. We have a difficult time understanding how he can complain about a service he never received or paid for. Our technician arrived at his address in Maryland Heights. The call was for no heat (this is a rental property). turned the system on heat at the thermostat. There was 24 volts at the circuit board calling for heat. The ignitor never came on indicating a bad circuit board. Mike, our technician called the customer and informed him that a new circuit board was needed. Also mentioned that a capacitor for the blower motor should be replaced. quoted $513.00 for the circuit board. The customer said he could buy the board cheaper himself. The customer tried to negotiate the price and told that he he could go ahead and do it if he can do it for $300.00. [member name removed] called our office later that day complaining about a misdiagnosis. He wanted his money back and was yelling at the dispatcher calling her stupid and Mike stupid. He asked to speak with the owner. The dispatcher informed him that I went home ill with a migraine. She told him that I would call him the next day. He called us a bunch of idiots and then hung up. We never charged him for the service. We didn't replace the part for further diagnosis. If we had replaced the part and it didn't work we would have removed it and not charged the customer. If we had been allowed to replace the board then we would have been able to diagnose any further issue that the system may have had (ie: a dirty flame sensor- which would not have been clear unless the board was operational in the first place). Again, [member name removed] elected not to use our service due to price and we never performed any work or charged him for that work. We have used Academy Air for heating and cooling for the past 8 or so years. We first brought them in because they had great reviews and they were located in Maryland Heights, where we live. Most years, we?ve signed up for the maintenance agreement and it has been helpful since we have had several repairs needed throughout the years. They have been able to come out fairly quickly and everyone we have worked with there has been nice.

The technician from Academy Air explained some steps I should take for best heating performance and the problems I may face with my air conditioning system. Although the AC was replaced only a year ago, that purchase was apparently part of the effort of a kind- hearted church group that helped make the condo marketable. The unit purchased for my condo unit was, as a result, very inexpensive and is not fully compatible with my interior system. Further, it uses freon (R22), which is becoming more expensive and will eventually be unavailable due to EPA restrictions. What I appreciated was getting all of this information without any pressure to replace the existing equipment. Since the furnace was original with the building in 1988, I anticipate needing to replace it and the AC in the not too distant future. Academy Air gave me a sense of my options and costs I can plan for while they help me maintain the equipment I have for a long as it continues to function. My payment of $269 gives me system checks in the spring and fall for two years and priority attention for service if I need repairs during the life of the contract.ll
Description of Work: I bought my condominium in 2011 after it had been condemned by local health officials and the previous owner had been forced to vacate the property. Many aspects of the home needed attention, but the HVAC seemed to be functioning adequately. When spring came, I decided to have my system checked and readied for a St. Louis summer. An Academy Air service technician came to my home and did an inspection and tune up of my furnace and air conditioning system.

I called Academy Air and made an appointment. Terry,the owner, of the company came to my home the schedule time and was very professional. He put covers over his shoes and came in took a look at everything and then gave me the estimate. I believe the estimate was very fair and I know they would do a great job. The estimate was a bit more than I have to spend on this project right now. Terry and his employees are a pleasure to work with and they are all very friendly and honest in my opinion. They will come out and will not give up until they give you a quality level of service. I have dealt with them on many occassions and have never had a problem. they will not try to sell you anything you do not need. They do all the work themselves and do not subcontract it out. They are neat and very professional. Academy Air is wonderful and great to work with if you have a heating or cooling problem. They really care about their customers.
Description of Work: I contacted Academy Air in order to get an estimate on having a new A/C and furnace installed in my home. The weather has been so hot that my old one could not keep up. I had used Academy Air several times before and had found them to be wonderful.

We had the annual maintenance contract with Academy Air and on their bi-annual inspection their guy claimed we had a rusted out HVAC air handler with mold inside. He claimed we were in dire need of a new HVAC system very soon and would have their salesperson come out and talk to us about a new system. He did say that Lennox systems were not their specialty, implying some doubt as to whether they knew what they were doing. The salesguy arrived, and did his best to convince us to buy a $14,000+ (with labor) system. Needless to say, we indicated we wanted to have some time to make a decision. On price shopping, we found the same exact system from a local competitor for $9500 (with labor). I wondered why the salesguy seemed so eager to close the deal!! The kicker is, the second HVAC company we contacted to give a second opinion before spending $9500 came out, took one look and said our HVAC system was just fine....he proceeded to remove the mold with a bleach rag and said all systems rust...it's a natural amount of corrosion that doesn't compromise the system. We chose that company (Controlled Heating & Air) to double-check because they specialize in Lennox systems. We immediately cancelled our annual contract with Academy Air and went with the new company for our bi-annual maintenance plan.

Our AC stopped working the night before a 107 degree heatwave was supposed to hit. The outside unit was working properly, but the blower in the basement wasn't kicking on. We called the 24-hour answering service around 9 PM on a Wednesday night and the operator took down our basic information and told us a technician would call us shortly. About 5 minutes later we got a call from a tech who had just finished up a job and could be there in 30 to 45 minutes. He was able to give me a rough idea on prices and even had the problem diagnosed down to one of two things just from my description of the issue. The tech arrived right on time and was incredibly courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. He identified the capacitor as being the problem (which turned out to be just about the cheapest part to replace out of the things that it could have been), and replaced it right away after going back out to his vehicle and getting a new one. The whole time he explained exactly what he was doing and even showed me how he was diagnosing the problem with a voltmeter. He did a thorough check of the system as a whole to ensure nothing else seemed like it was going to fail anytime soon. At no point during the process did he attempt to upsell me on anything or push any additional services on me. I asked him about maintenance plans (as we're relatively new homeowners and hadn't thought about regular maintenance for our HVAC system until this point) and he showed me what they had available and how that broke down in terms of price. I opted to sign up for a 1 year maintenance plan, but I stress that this was entirely my decision and at no point did I feel pressured. Signing up for a maintenance plan significantly dropped the cost of the current after-hours service as well, so in the end I feel like I got a great deal on everything. I would highly recommend this company, especially the technician, Ben Cook. I couldn't be happier with the speed, service, or value and will definitely be using them in the future.

They showed up right on time. It took them about 3-1/2 hours to replace it. They covered up my carpet and wore booties. They cleaned up nicely and now I have a working (not leaking) hot water heater.
Description of Work: In January 2012, I had Academy Air do a routine check on my furnace and a/c unit. This was free and included with my original maintenance agreement. They didn't charge my anything on that visit, but they did note that my 19 year old hot water heater was in bad shape and quoted me $1086 to replace it (50 gallon natural gas hot water heater). I figured if it's not broke don't fix it, but it started leaking last week. They knew what they were talking about. I called them on Monday, and they were able to come out on Thursday to replace it. The hot water was still working. The unit was leaking a small amount of water so it wasn't an emergency to replace it.

Note: I used Academy at both my old address and my current address.
Description of Work: I used Acadamey in 2005 to install a new furnace. They were prompt, cleaned up and did an axcellent job. Staff and Terry are very pleasant to work with. Used them again in 2011 to install a new a/c unit that did a most amazing job. They matched the a/c to the current evaporator (2.5 ton). Sold the house in 2012 and moved. Day of closing furnace went out and again used Academy. They were out that morning to measure what was needed. New furnace was installed the next day. I use Academy to do my yearly maintenance on both my furnace and a/c. Highly recommend them.

We received several estimates on this job. The first company to come out looked at our system and informed us what the issues were with it. It was at that time I realized a new system was in order. The first company also quoted us a price the same day and wanted us to sign the contract right then and there. After hesitation from me he told me I had to make a decision by the end of the day or the price would go up $1000. Needless to say I kept looking. I had my wife do the initial interview with all the A/C salesmen and then let me know which ones she felt comfortable with. We ended up with 5 quotes. My wife had narrowed the field down to a company in Saint Charles and Academy Air in Maryland Heights. We set up an appointment to have both companies come out and give their sales pitch to me. After talking with Zack for a couple of hours, I knew they were at the top of the running. He was knowledgeable about the products and seemed to actually be working with us in order to procure the job. The one area he seemed to be lacking on was thermostats. When the sales pitch ended I felt comfortable enough to sign the contract and get the work started. I didn't even call the second company, because they said they wouldn't even come out to meet me for another week. I wanted to schedule the install one week after the initial meeting and Academy Air was able to fit us in. The technicians came out when they stated they would. They laid out a "red carpet" from the front door, over our hardwood floors, down the stairs into the furnace room where they were working. My daughter stated she felt like a movie star. I had initially asked them to put the outside A/C unit back on the brackets that the old one was on. They called me up stating that that was going to be difficult to accommodate due to the size of the unit. So they offered to set it on the ground below where the old was was sitting. When I came home later in the afternoon, I saw what they meant by the size of the unit and had no issue with them putting it on the ground. Not only did they place it on a pad, they landscaped around it with retaining wall bricks and pea gravel, free of charge. Looked really nice. After the job was completed I went around to make sure everything was installed correctly and discovered that the thermostat wasn't what I expected it to be. I though I was going to be receiving a remote thermostat that was going to be able to come off the wall and be placed anywhere we wanted. Zack had told me initially this was the unit we were getting. So they placed a call to Zach who called me back a couple of weeks later apologising for the error. He said they would come out and replace the unit with the one I thought I was getting. Since I got comfortable with the touchscreen that they installed I told him it wasn't necessary anymore, because I actually liked what they installed. He said he wanted it to make it right and didn't want me to leave with a bad taste in my mouth, which I didn't. He ended up giving us an extra year on our service contract. I'm going to have to say that was a class act. So when all is said and done I would highly recommend Academy Air to install whatever your HVAC needs are.
Description of Work: I needed a 16 SEER A/C unit with a 96% efficient furnace. I also had them install a whole house humidifier and a touch screen thermostat.

The company dispatched a technician to my house within one hour. The problem was fixed within 15 minutes. Needless to say the temperature outside was in the high 90s that day. The problem was related to a starter in the air conditioning system. The technician (Bryan) was professional and polite. He explained/reviewed his repair and showed me the part that had to be replaced. He reviewed the costs throughout the process. There were no surprises. I had used Academy Air in the past, and now I remember why..their service is great. I would highly recommend the company.
Description of Work: I had an emergency air conditioning issue on a Friday eve/after hours. My system stopped completely. I called Academy Air and gave their after hours dispatcher my information (and a brief description of the air conditioning problem.) A starter within the air condiitoning system had to be replaced.

They came out because we signed up with them for service contract. They did all the work without any charge and that was really good. They came out, when we had our air conditioning shut down on a very hot summer night. They came the same night late around 9.30 or 10.30. He was on his way back home and he diverted to come here. He got us back up and running. We don't find such guys like that. The contract was not overly expensive. They were dependable and reasonable.
Description of Work: Academy Air Heating & Cooling found some parts needed to be replaced late last summer.

Superb service! All of the company's representitives have been both friendly and professional. The work done on both occasions was completed correctly and as promised. The installer took time to explain what was being repaired and how to operate the new equipment. With respect to price, Academy was not the most inexpensive, but was definitely the best value. Their mark-up on parts is less than most and the quality of the work/service is worth the modest additional costs. Thanks for the good work! I'll be sure to call again should I need service.
