Richards Carpet & Tile

Product quality is fine, but the customer experience is lousy. We want to support local business but this company makes it impossible to want to do business with them. We had 4 different experiences, only one of which was satisfactory. The first instance resulted in us laying carpet in a room and the mis-measurement left us with 80-100 sq feet of carpet extra. The owner wouldn't return the carpet and said it was the third party contractors fault. The second instance was related to a tile purchase we intended to pick up and install. We asked what the tile weighed in total so we could plan for the right vehicle to pick up. The owner told us 500 lbs, knowing it was more like 2500, then watched while he sat in the forklift as we loaded it on our trailer. He also said he would return unopened boxes of tile, only to change after the sale and say the manufacturer no longer would take it back from him, so we were out of luck. The final issue again related to carpet laying and our new baseboards being scratched after they laid carpet. Again, he blamed the layers and our paint, rather than taking any accountability. For us this is an issue of integrity and accountability, or lack thereof. We will be finding another company for these needs in the future.

Everything looked great after they finished. The installer did a really good job of installing the carpet. It took about half a day.

Just moved into the house and wanted a better floor in the basement, decided to go with a local business to keep the money in town. They were easy to talk to and get it set up. They were fast and quiet, which was great as I work nights and was sleeping while they installed. Also we found paperwork from our house previous owners who also used these guys and those floors look great too.

Richard is an old fashioned salesman. He's been in the business for a long time and you can tell he loves it. Liberty is a small community. He's maintained a good reputation. We were happy with the price and products we chose. The workers arrived on time and worked steadily till the job was done. The carpet's been down for over a year now and we haven't had any problems.

I went into Richard's and selected some samples. They were readily willing for me to take samples with me, which was nice, so I had time to really look and make a decision. We'd previously had the house measured by another vendor and Richard's used those measurements in order to provide a price. Their pricing was slightly less than what I'd received, so I'd say their prices are competitive. However, during my visit to the store to return samples, the owner was on the phone with an evidently unhappy customer. When he hung up, he went on to tell me the whole story as to what her complaint was about and called her a "B***". I was offended and felt I'd rather take my business elsewhere than to deal with someone with that level of unprofessionalism.
