The sidewalk project Midwest completed for us went extremely well! Our summation: The pour was done Friday morning, February 5th, 2016 and the Midwest crew did a terrific job. The walks and steps look great! Additionally, I had asked the foreman to dump the excess concrete in the ditch along the street below our culvert. When checking on this the next day I found the excess concrete had not been randomly poured into the ditch. Instead the crew had taken the time to use the excess to create storm water entry and exit ramps at both ends of the culvert. Wow! How cool is that?!! This example of above and beyond customer service is hereby recognized and duly appreciated! The Midwest employees were courteous and professional and they kept us well informed as the work progressed. I appreciate their efficiency and craftsmanship. We couldn?t be happier with the results!

MIDWEST CONCRETE & CONST INC did a fantastic job on our driveway! We watched them work on THREE other driveways (over the past year and a half) on our street and were so impressed with the quality of materials that was used and for the look of the final product that we were willing to wait for MIDWEST CONCRETE & CONST INC to do our driveway. When Tom came out to give us a bid he was the ONLY contractor that mentioned replacing two slabs on our sidewalk that had settled and were pulling away from our front porch. This was an issue that I wanted my husband to fix but he was unable to do so. Now our side walk and porch looks great! We had about 8 contractors come out and give us bids and MIDWEST CONCRETE & CONST INC WERE THE ONLY contractors that would use "clean rock" (4 inches), wire mesh and Raineri Concrete (4 inches) to complete our job, a QUALITY job from beginning to the end! The pitch of the driveway is nearly perfect to run the water away from our back door and off the driveway. Tom's bid was the 2nd least expensive bid and used the best QUALITY PRODUCTS. Two of my neighbors have already asked who the contractor was that poured our driveway and we are happy to say "MIDWEST CONCRETE & CONST INC," so Tom and his crew will most likely have more jobs from our street in the near future. Also, Tom's Crew worked in a professional manor EACH day they were on the job site! I will recommend MIDWEST CONCRETE & CONST INC to EVERYONE!

Awesome job! Both areas were replaced with aggregate concrete with dye coloring mixed in concrete! Finished product is beautiful! When initially discussing job with Tom he provided a recently completed job I could go see that was done with aggregate and the colored dye. I appreciated this because putting dye in concrete was something new to me and I was a little unsure. Wow, is it it ever beautiful! Tom was full of great ideas, improvements and positive changes we hadn't even thought about. He was easy to talk to, not pushy and listened to our concerns. Tom's group of workers are great too! Their teamwork and eagerness to please was continuous from start to finish! I truly wish we would've found them years ago!

After I used them, we went through our first winter and we had a crack all the way across. I called them. They took my phone call. They said that they would come out there and do what needed to be done. They told me that because we had spent so much money with them, they would be glad to do that and then they never did come. I called them twice. I would never use them again because we spent $35,000 with them and they wouldn't even come out one time.
Description of Work: I had them do extensive concrete work at my lake house. We had them do sidewalks and build a retaining wall. They actually had to build two retaining walls and then a huge patio area with a built-in fire pit on the lake.

Response from Midwest Concrete & Const Inc
Mrs. [Member Name Removed], I just want to clarify a few things on the job and the follow-up. The job went well, the quality was good. Being as this pad was poured at the bottom of an extremely steep hill next to the lake there were some conditions existed that weren't favorable to a freezing climate. I am sorry that the concrete cracked, we did everything we could to do the job correctly, gravel sub base etc. everything we could to try to prevent it from cracking. It is unfortunate, and again I am sorry that it cracked. I did come out and take a look at it, and Mrs. [Member Name Removed] and I talked about it after I looked at it. We discussed the possibilities and that the only thing that could be done was to vulkum that seam. I thought we agreed that we were going to vulkum that seam, I just need to have accessibility due to the locked gate, or have the customer meet me there. I am happy to do this, it will help keep the crack from getting worse and it will help it look better. This is the only fix for something like this that we have available to us. I'd be happy to do this, please contact me. There is some warm weather coming up next week and this could be done then, if that works for you. I hope this helps your situation and helps improve your feelings on the portion of our work you were upset about. I wish there was some way we could pour concrete where it would never crack under any condition, it has just not been figured out how to do that under every condition, that is encountered. please schedule that with us so we can get this scheduled next week. Thank you, Tom Silber - owner

Midwest concrete did an excellent job. We agreed to the contract on Friday night and they started the job the next Tuesday. The vibration on their trucks on the property caused some of the damaged bridge to fall off, it was that unstable. Someone could have been seriously hurt had we had to wait much longer for a repair. The new wall and driveway look amazing. It will be dry and ready for our scheduled estate sale. We can list the house immediately now and most importantly the bridge is safe now. We were so very grateful for their quick action to get our job done and the wonderful work they did. I would not hesitate to recommend them and will use them in the future if I ever need concrete work.
Description of Work: We are in the process of selling my in laws 2.5 acre property. We had a strong storm and flash flooding caused damage to a bridge over their driveway when the creek underneath it flooded. The wall on one side collapsed and fell into the creek and the driveway started to buckle as the weight of the unsupported bridge caused it to crack down the middle. We had an estate sale scheduled and we were ready to list the house and we were panicking. Midwest concrete came out and poured a new support wall and driveway. Installed rebar to hold the whole thing together.

This is by far the most professional contractor I have ever dealt with .They know what they are doing ,there very good at what they do and most of all they take a lot of pride in what they do and they refused to cut corners. They only use top quality products in doing the job. Another plus is they listen to what you're asking for and they do the very best to supply you with what you want and they will go beyond what you're expecting. I just can not say enough about the professionalism of Tom and his crew. Bottom line. I highly recommend this company and I will use them in the future.

I signed a contract with Midwest Concrete on April 14, 2014 to have my driveway, sidewalk and three steps replaced. The contract read that there would be minor damage to my landscaping. There was excessive damage done to my yard. The crew that took out the old concrete and asphalt drove over a bedding of plants with a bobcat after telling me, he would remove the slab by hand. The yard was left in a horrendous condition even after "the soil was put back." Three steps inside my garage were replaced. The steps are not smooth and have bumps in them. The empty cement bag and nails and other trash was left in the garage after the steps were poured. Cement was smeared on the casing around the door leading from the garage into my home. I chose to have the concrete stained and was assured by the owner that there would be no difference in color between the slabs of concrete. There is a significant difference in color between two slabs in the sidewalk. I mentioned to the owner's son, who came to pour the driveway that I had had a great deal of work done since buying my home in March and that not one tradesperson left my home or created the mess that Midwest Concrete did. His response was, "Did they work with concrete?" His mannerism and responses to my concerns was upsetting. I sent pictures to the owner of the unprofessional way my home was left. I spoke with the owner and he said the crew was anxious to get done because it was a holiday weekend (Memorial Day)and they were going "fishing." He said the work was "not quite the same "as he "would have done" then added they are "a good company" and asked if I would do him a favor. He said he would seal the driveway and sidewalk at no cost to me using an upgraded sealant. The contract included sealing, but the owner said he would use this upgraded sealant, which he said would be a $400 - $500 job if I would write a favorable review on Angie's List for his company. The owner came to my house and sprayed the concrete. I showed him the damage that was done to my yard and the different shades in the concrete. He said it would even out. It hasn't. I called the owner and told him the slabs of concrete had not evened out and were different shades. We were not able to finish our conversation, so I called him back. This was about 4 -5 weeks ago and left a message asking him to call me, but have not heard from him.

Response from Midwest Concrete & Const Inc
October 27, 2014 Midwest Concrete has been pouring concrete for 36 years and has built a reputation that stands for quality workmanship. Our record with Angie’s List and the BBB are excellent. We would like to address some of the concerns [Member name removed] has stated: *In your contract we inform you that there will be damage to your yard. Each job is different and will have a different level of damage. If there will be more damage than normal we will speak to you regarding this. You not only signed the contract but were informed of needing to use the bobcat to break out the walk. The bedding plants were in the way of the size of driveway that you requested and you responded with verbal approval that you understood the walk was going to be broken/removed with the bobcat due to it being 8” thick. *When pouring concrete against structure you will have splatter. This is removed as soon as possible and yours was removed. Any materials/trash as well will be cleaned up as soon as possible and I believe this was done as well. A job can go on for several days depending on size and if left in your garage may have been unsightly; your driveway was not finished and could not be driven on for the minimum of 7 days to cure. *The concrete was all poured at the same time so any discoloration was due to the exposure of the sun and moisture in the ground. Over time all of the concrete will cure to the same color. Concrete can take up to 7 years to completely cure depending on the strength of the concrete. We use a high strength mix (4500 PSI), which is better for our customer and can take 3-6 months to cure in color. At this time there is no discoloration with your job. *After hearing of your concerns Tom came by the job to speak with you and look everything over. He asked what would make you happy and you replied with a better sealer you would be happy. He in turn asked that if he applied a better sealer at no charge would you write a favorable response to Angie’s list. At no time did he say that the work was not done correctly or he could do better. Tom did apply the lifetime sealer for you as promised. *The last time that Tom tried to reach [Member name removed] she replied she was too busy and she has not contacted us again. We at Midwest Concrete value our reputation and our customers. We have built this business by recommendations not by advertising. Our crew is courteous and friendly. I ask all that read [Member name removed] letter and our response to please go by the job and look for yourself. 16231 Windfall Ridge Dr., Chesterfield, MO

For the most part, the job went well. All company representatives were extremely easy to work with and were genuinely interested in our customer satisfaction. We are extremely happy with the color of the concrete and design. However, we are not as happy with the sharp ridges that were left by the stamp for the flagstone look. The sharp ridges limit our family’s ability to walk barefoot on the patio. The stairs were poured with just a skin and do not have the ridges left by the stamps. There are ways to eliminate the ridges (a.k.a., "crusting") that results from stamping. For instance, these can be rolled out while the concrete is still wet to ensure the colors are maintained. If pouring around a pool, we strongly recommend avoid a stamp finish that will leave any form of ridges that could tear up your feet or check with other companies that may be able to do the stamping without leaving sharp ridges. Prior to the submission of my initial review on 9/17/13, the owner of Midwest Concrete and Construction, Inc. stated that someone from the company would come out and smooth off the sharpe ridges left by the stamped work. As of 4/14/14, no one from the company has been out to address the sharp ridges.
Description of Work: We contracted with Midwest Concrete and Construction, Inc. to tear out an existing concrete pad (14’ x 14’) and replace with stamped concrete pad (14’ x 35’) with a stamped flagstone finish. We also had stairs poured from a garage service door to pad, which was approximately 25’ in length by 3’ wide. Finally, approximately 80 yards of topsoil were delivered to improve the grade of the yard around the newly poured pad and stairs.

Please see above. The overall experience was most positive.
Description of Work: I had a twenty-five year vision of landscaping the front lawn of my home. This yard was on a steep incline. I am sure a mountain goat would be right at home. I am getting older. However, I am not an old goat. Tom Silbert and I did some brain storming. Tom listened. Tom made some well considered suggestions.Tom is not only a lanscape artist he is a construction master. Tom did all the drawings. His construction plans passed the strict building codes of Des Peres, Missouri. He and his sons were most professional. The project was completed in a reasonable time. The clean up was outstanding. New sod was placed on top of a sizable area of clean fill soil and top soil . He sought out reasonably priced shrubs and other plantings. These were planted and mulched. He set up a timed watering system. When the temperature permitted, I was able to water the new sod. He installed a large volume drainage -pipe system. This system diverts the roof run off water volume and pressure from behind the large retaining wall. My neighbors have offered many positive comments. " This totally changes the presentation of your home " " The look is so stately " " Great curb appeal " If you have a landscaping project, a retaining wall issue,a concrete project, Tom Silbert and his sons have my highest recommendation. I should add, his spouse Marsha takes care of scheduling and various business issues. She was outstanding.

Given a referral, I contacted Midwest Concrete & Construction on May 20, 2011 regarding my patio, which was in disrepair. Tom Silber was quick to respond to my SOS and visited my condo a few days later. During our meeting he spent time showing photos and explaining the different surfaces and designs for stamped concrete, a term in which I was vaguely familiar. Tom allowed me to select a pattern that best suited my desire. He measured my existing ugly, cracked, chipped patio and had an estimate in the mail within a week. Because of the weather conditions, it took about 8 weeks for Tom and his team to start work; however, the wait was worth it. His team showed up and worked methodically, being mindful of their surroundings, to eradicate the poor quality material that made up my existing patio. Despite the hot temperatures, his team continued to make progress daily, conscientious of how the weather would affect the stamped "Stones of Athens" pattern. During the process his wife, Marsha, was in constant contact with me by phone and E-mail to keep me updated on schedule changes resulting from the weather. One week later the end result was not just a concrete patio, but an amazing work of art. What's interesting about the stamped concrete, is that it looks different each time I look at it depending on the sun or the shade. Different sized blocks stamped into the concrete, shades of tan mixed with a hint of red, sealed with a clear coat to perfection. Are my neighbors jealous? You bet!

Tom Silber was the first of five contractors that I contacted to return my call. He was also the first to come by the job site for an interview and job description. Their bid was prompt and reasonable. Tom was very prompt to return my calls when I had a question. Once the contract was signed and the weather cleared up, his son, Chris, came by and had the job done in two working days. I was impressed with his work ethic, quality, and the pride he took in his work. I would definitely hire them again.

When they built the patio, it seemed as though it would have footers and be structurally sound. They did not do footers and you can see the earth coming out from under the patio. We were forced to add a retaining wall immediately, and pay more for that portion of the work. The first part was bad, but they did correct the problem with the retaining wall.
