I have been working the patio cover manufacturer American Louvered Roofs, who I believe is located in Kentucky, to get the problems with the improper installation corrected. I believed I had an agreement with American Louvered Roofs for them to have their new local dealer properly rebuild my patio cover. When workers showed up to do the work I found out that they were independent contractors sent out by the local dealer with the premise that I would be paying for the labor required to rebuild the patio cover. This was certainly not the understanding I had from Paul Sessum, part-owner of American Louvered Roof. I called Paul and was told that they are only the manufacturers and any problem with the installation is not their problem. He suggested calling the original dealer/installer (see below) who is no longer in business. In any event American Louvered Roofs does not really stand behind their product and its installation. My advice is to stay away from this product at all costs. It may be a good concept, but the installation is complex and subject to many problems. STAY AWAY! Met Ron Williams at the OP Home Show where he demonstrated a louvered patio cover system. The concept of being able to open or close the patio cover to let light in or keep rain out seemed like a great idea, so we arranged for an in-home estimate. The samples Ron showed us seemed good so after a couple days of consideration we decided to go ahead with the project. The materials were delivered direct from the manufacturer's factory in a reasonable time. When the installer arrived we began to get nervous. The installer arrived in a beat-up pickup that probably should not have been on the road and he seemed to have very minimal tools and equipment. The installer also had a couple of different helpers and the one with him for the actual installation was probably just out of high school, at best, and obviously had no construction experience. The actual installation took 2 days but it quickly became apparent that the installer was not really sure what he was doing. With the first rain we discovered that that the patio cover was installed with no side to side slope so that during a rain water would not run off of the louvers but leak through onto the deck area. The product is advertised as being 98% water proof. Also after installation many of the louvers did not close completely and several were not completely locked into place. When we called about the louvers not closing and the leaks, the installer did come back 2 times to try to adjust the louvers but was never able to get them to close completely or to stop water from leaking through. At this point Ron stopped returning our calls and we were never able to contact him again. It is my understanding that The Amazing Patio Cover Company, aka Ron Williams, is no longer in business, at least under that name. The actual patio cover system is manufactured by American Louvered Roofs out of Kentucky and actually seems to be a decent concept. I believe all of our problems are due to improper installation and lack of knowledge about how to install this type of patio cover. The manufacturer has been helpful with answering questions and supplying parts (at my cost) as I try to fix the problems myself.

Description of Work: This company is owned and operated by a Ron Williams. I contracted with Mr Williams to remove an old and rotted pergola over the patio in the back of my house. Mr. Williams was to install a louvered patio cover. This product is a manufactured aluminum cover that has louvers that can be opened and closed electrically by remote. The order was made in September 2011, and by December 2011 the product still had not been installed. It is difficult to get a response from Mr. Williams when you contact him. I found that his business office is a mostly empty rented store space with one desk and a telephone. I was finally able to contact the owner and get this product installed. After many disputes with the owner and investigation by myself, I found that Mr. Williams does have a Kansas City business license, to conduct business in the city. Mr. Williams did not have a contractors license to do this type of work as required by Kansas City. Also he did not acquire building permits for the work as required by the city. During the installation Mr. Williams son, the site supervisor, lost a cashiers check needed to pay a trucking company for delivery of materials. I discovered the workmen attempting to install the new materials over the top of old and rotted rafters from the old pergola. I had to get the owner to stop construction and replace the old material with new lumber. After construction I found rusty, bent nails sticking out, screws not totally inserted, and materials not aligned properly. Mr. Williams and his crew left the property with no instructions for the electrician on how to program the remotes for the louvers. Building inspectors from Kansas City stated the structure would not pass inspection. The city required me to remove the structure, which I did. Mr. Williams was found guilty and fined in Kansas City court for 'Non Permitted Work'. I also discovered that Mr. Williams had done work in two nearby cities and did not have business licenses for either city.
