With Steve, it always goes very well.
Description of Work: Steve has been doing jobs for me for about a year now and I am so happy I found him. He was recommended by a friend who has been using his services for several years. The biggest job he's done for me was in remodeling my living room. He removed a wall to open the space between the living and dining rooms and built a beautiful shelving unit as the support needed when the wall was taken out. He refaced my unattractive, 1950s, red-brick fireplace with beautiful limestone tiles and redesigned the mantel to look more elegant. I hired a painter to paint the walls, but he didn't do a very good job, so I asked Steve to fix the mistakes that stood out. He installed some lovely slide-out shelves in my kitchen, so now I can get to dishes more easily, and recaulked the seams around my kitchen counter and my shower. He even reorganized my garage, which was a mess and poorly thought out originally. Now everything has a place and it's easier to get in and out of the car. He did a beautiful job on framing my windows with new trim (to replace cracked, brittle old plastic shutters), and replacing the old, 1950s original wood windows that wouldn't open. He repaired areas of dry rot under the windows. He's painting the exterior of my house now, and he's sanding down the places where old paint has peeled (many homes in this neighborhood are not scraped and sanded before painting, and it looks sloppy). He's replacing any shingles that are rotten and he's going to replace the rotted facia board for the guttering. I keep a running list of things that "go wrong," (like a hole in the plaster or a new light fixture to replace an old one) and when I get enough stuff together to fill up a day, I call him and he finds time for me. Everything he has done, he's done well. He cleans up afterwards; he's also good at suggesting materials or items that might be best for the job (like the windows!). He has a broad scope of experience in many areas---carpentry, tiling, painting, lighting, structural integrity, plaster work. He's tidy and very conscientious about doing a good job. I've paid less to have comparable work done, but then I've had to pay again to have it redone. Having Steve do it right the first time is so much more sensible.

We have used Steve Olson to remodel and repair our home on several occasions over the last few years. He always gives us a good price and sticks to the original estimate. He works quickly and has it done in a reasonable time-frame. He has kept the construction area neat and cleans up after himself. We have been very happy with his suggestions and attention to detail with everything he has done for us. It's great to have someone we can trust to do a good job at a good price.
Description of Work: We've had Steve take care of several home maintenance needs over the years. He has replace our front door, back door and sliding glass door. He has also repaired some drywall, installed a dishwasher. Most recently he repaired some guttering for us.

Description of Work: Stephen has worked for us in many capacities for the last 10 years, remodeling our house, building on a porch, finishing a basement (including rec. room, wet bar. business office,) and painted the house twice. Most recently he replaced all the siding and insulation and insulated the roof, Steve built cupboards in the kitchen and repainted the porch this summer. Steve has done electrical work and plumbing. He is a master carpenter and does most of the work himself. He has been responsive and thorough on each job and cleans up at the end of each day. We could not recommend him more highly.

All of this work took a week and two days. We are very pleased with the appearance and the profeesional manner in which all work was completed in the time frame and price that was quoted. Steve is a conscientious individual that you can trust with the key to your front door or the code for the keypad to your garage. He had installed the garage door, the opener, vinyl siding and replacement windows years before, for us. All work has been done to our complete satisfaction. He has also done wiring and plumbing work for us. .
Description of Work: Steve used a hydraulic jack hammer to break up and remove the existing 60 year old concrete steps that were 6 steps tall. He built new steps using four 2 x 12 inch stringers for solid support. He then used gray composite materials to place three 5 1/2 inch wide "boards" on each step and placed a six inch wide backing "board" on each riser so your foot couldn't slip between the steps. He placed the same 6" wide boards on the exterior of the two end risers so the appearance was more complete. My wife and I had picked out hand railing materials that were thick and strong enough to support a person using a walker, cane or crutches. These hand rails are white and included a top and bottom rail and were well installed. We opted to have Steve rermove old black wrought-iron porch railing and hand rails down the stairs. With the wrought iron removed, he used 3" x 3" boards covered in the same material at each corner of the porch for support of the attached roof, to complete the proper look. He then attached hand rails to the house on both sides of the porch and connected them to the roof supports as well as the new steps. He then replaced the facia covering the underneath portion of the overhanging roof. Once this was completed he caulked all of the top and bottom spindles on the stair rails to keep rain from getting in. He also caulked where the top of the support posts met the facia of the roof of the porch, as well as the places where the side rails were attached to the house. He also replaced the sill, threshold and storm door on the back of the house. He wrapped the sill in white aluminum for a good appearance and long lasting service. The silver colored threshold sealed out any and all winds that had been coming in before. He adjusted the interior door as well as hanging and adjusting the exterior door.
