Poor John's showed up and immediately suggested that rather replacing the valve (which the plumber said would be a "minimum" of $300 rather than a "maximum" of $300 as previously indicated) the plumber recommended simply adding packing to the valve. I agreed, but as the plumber attempted to removed the valve handle, he broke it in half ... and then attempted to bore out the center screw which was corroded and would unscrew ... and by the time he was done manhandling the thing he had completely broken the valve handle and left me with only the tiny center stem. Although he did add packing to the valve and stop the leak, he did not replace the valve handle and told me I could "find a replacement handle anywhere." He did not have many supplies in his minivan which was disorganized to say the least. I have since tried at several plumbing supply stores and big-box stores but each store told me that valve handles are manufacturer specific, and except for square fittings on outdoor faucets which mine is not, I will likely need to replace the valve. I have been unable to find any replacement valve handles with a torx-head stem like mine. While I can appreciate that the plumber was trying to save me some money, but paying $100 bucks to have my main water supply valve broken is not what I consider a good bargain. The end result of the job puts Poor John's at the bottom of professionalism standard in my opinion.
Description of Work: Main water shutoff valve was leaking, and I requested the valve be replaced. Was told the cost would range from $100 - $300 depending on complexity.

After inquiring about having an inspection of some newly installed plumbing work, Poor John's Plumbing was very quick to respond with an estimated cost and availability. They were easy to schedule a time and I didn't have to wait long to have them come. A plumber named Jacob came out and was very punctual, knowledgeable, and professional. He did a great job of talking through the inspection, was very fair in the cost, and thorough in documenting the inspection results for me. Throughout everything, both Jacob and the Poor John's Plumbing office maintained great communication and were a pleasure to do business with. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I needed an inspection of previously installed, roughed-in plumbing for a new remodel of a bathroom and wet bar.

Went very well. They answered all my questions, cleaned up after themselves, and made sure I knew of the ins and outs of the new waterheater as our original was 20+ years old. No leaks months later and we are enjoying the hot water.

Eric was my technician. As promised, he called before he came. He spent a lot of time trying to diagnose the problem, which he believe was just the level of water presser. He adjusted it, and asked me to just monitor it for a few days. If the sound came back, we'd need to replace the piece of equipment that monitored the PSI of the water coming into the house. He provided an estimate of that cost, so I'd know what to expect should that need to be done. The final cost of his time was VERY reasonable! Eric was very professional, very informative, friendly, and easy to talk to. Poor John's Plumbing will definitely be my plumber of choice from this point forward. Thank you again!

Best company ever! Saved me almost $8,000. I had a sewer backup at my house and called my home warrantee company. They sent out Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. Do not hire Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. They quoted me almost $8,000 to replace a sewer line under my sidewalk, then tried to get me to finance without getting another estimate. I decided to get another estimate anyway. My mom and I had both used Poor John’s plumbing before and they were honest and fixed our previous problems the cheapest, most effective way possible. So I called them. When I called to get a quote from Poor John's Plumbing, the guy told me right away that I probably would not have to pay for it. Not only that but Poor John's Plumbing called the sewer department for me and had them out the next day to confirm that I would not have to pay for the repairs. Poor Johns’ Plumbing was a life saver! Thank you so much!

The plumber not only fixed the leaking guest room toilet and sink that had been muddled by another provider, but he was patient and polite as he explained the nature of the problem and the remedy. Jeremy the plumber was great. The office manager who answered the phone and took the service call and later followed up was equally proficient and professional. I am so grateful to Poor John's Plumbing and would recommend them to anyone with plumbing needs.
Description of Work: The provider fixed the leak in a guest bathroom which included repairing the seals and rings and connectors on the vanity sink and toilet. Jeremy the plumber also checked to see if the shower was leaking.

They were excellent. They came in and did it quickly and efficiently without any mess. They cleaned up after themselves. I would recommend them to a family member or a neighbor. They were very efficient and very effective. They cost me $80, which is nothing. They're just a small company. They're not trying to compete with big leagues at all.

My husband and I have an older house that is surrounded by older trees... and their roots. The roots are a constant problem. They get into our main line and cause it to back up and overflow in our basement. Yuck. We stumbled upon Poor John's Plumbing when I did a Google search last year (May 2012) when this happened. They were out the very next day for a flat rate of $79 to clear out the main line, plus a $10 fuel charge. They were the cheapest out of the (at least) 5 places I called. And they guaranteed the work for 90 days (no other company offered this). We had to have them come back out this week (approximately one year later - April 2013) to clear out the main line again. This is through no fault of their's though. If we want to get rid of the root problem, we have to replace the main line itself. I'd rather pay them $89 a year to just come out and clear it until we absolutely have to replace it! We also had them come check out a leaky pipe in September 2012 and they only charged us $25 to take care of it. Amazing Company, Great Work, Highly Recommended!

I called this company based on friend's recommendation. Spoke with Terri, the owner. Told her what my goal was (not to clean the toilet area), and she suggested an American Standard Elongated High-Efficiency Toilet. Perfect recommendation for home full of boys! Mike did the installation. He was personable and professional. When he found problems, he pointed them out and explained what he had to do to correct them. Toilet install is quoted as $120 on their website. He discounted two of the installs by $10 each. There was an extra charge of $50 for jackhammering concrete (lower level toilet did not have a flange, so he had to make room to install a flange-fair enough). There was a small fee for other materials and a fuel charge. Our total was $439.27. We feel that it was a fair price and we are pleased with the work. Definitely will call this company for any plumbing issues.

We are in need of some septic work so naturally I checked Angie's List first. Poor John's was among four companies I chose from to get estimates. This company was the only of the three that have responded to date; and its been about a week. Although Poor John's doesn't do the type of work I need, they offered names of several companies in my area that they recommend. And they responded within 24 hours. My husband and I are big on customer service and we will use this company the next time we have plumbing needs.
