Started on time, very good communication and asked exactly what we wanted, even redid a few things when we changed our mind. Got held up a few days by rain, but worked on weekend and holiday to get caught up. Very considerate of our schedule and tried to be quiet as possible in the mornings. Very neat painting and cleaning up.

Doug and his crew did an excellent job. They were on time every day, were professional and very polite. The crew did an very good job of cleaning up. We are very pleased with the finished results and would hire Bates Painting for our next painting job.

They were here when they said they would be and the walls looks fine. They explained everything they were gonna do. They asked questions on what I want. They did the job quickly as they possibly can. I would have them again if I need any more painting.

Had a great experience with this company! Doug and crew try hard to please and work for customer satisfaction. They are sensitive to cleaning up at the end of the day. They arrived on time and the job was finished within the time promised. No drips anywhere!

The painting was EXCELLENT. But even better....Doug and his crew....were prompt, courteous and professionall. Doug is very good at communicating and scheduling. He is quick to return a phone call. From the bid...to the final walk-through....Doug was accessible and efficient. There were no surprises....just a fantastic painting job during the agreed time-frame.

Started on day we arranged. Workers showed up exactly at specified time every day. Basement turned out very nice. Popcorn ceiling repaint ended up with some challenges, but the crew stayed on it until it was right (without any instruction from me). Cleaned up very thoroughly after they were done.

He was very reasonable and personable but we needed someone that could do more than just paint so we went with someone else who was known by an acquaintance of ours. I was very satisfied with everything that he told me. He listened to what I needed and gave us a very low quote. He told us what he could not do but was willing to try to do some rock wall repair work on the outside of our house. We also needed some interior construction work and some wiring but he was not able to do that. He was very knowledgeable and used Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paint, which are top brand names, so we were very satisfied with his quote.

Doug and team were excellent and great to work with from start to finish. The quote was provided in a timely manner and was very straightforward. The crew was there for 5 days. They always arrived on time and cleaned up each day. The job was done on time and exactly as described. Doug's team is very professional and friendly. We felt comfortable coming and going from our house while they worked. Doug made a point to follow up regularly and at project completion to make sure we were satisfied. We will use them again for future projects.

They started the work at the scheduled time, the owner checked with his crew and us often during the work, the crew arrived promptly every morning, they were polite and showed special attention to detail.

I basically made my choice for a painter from Angie?s List. I did research by asking friends/co-workers whom they used and what costs they experienced. I also saw some results for some of those references and heard stories, good and bad. So, I had a good idea of what to expect. Doug Bates arrived on time for the estimate. He explained exactly what they could do and asked questions to help me decide what I wanted done. He was friendly, professional and experienced. He sent me an estimate that was in the middle of the range I expected and I accepted the quote. It was probably 6 weeks or so before he started working on my house but he kept me informed of where I was on the schedule and gave me a firm date (weather permitting) a week before starting. Everything that was quoted was done and seems to have been done well. I gave a 'B' for the price because I know I could have paid less but not sure I would have gotten as good of a job. Hard to rate this category. I am very happy with the work done and probably won't need to use the 6 year warranty. I also appreciate the fact that between Angie?s List references and Doug Bates experience I didn?t have to spend a lot of time trying to get a job done. I also got a discount after the work was done. A nice surprise.

Doug was on time from the start. We asked him to restain the railing of our deck and touch up the cracks, peeling areas and window caulking around the whole house. He gave us an estimate within a day and told us he would start within a few weeks. He began and finished the job within expectations. The whole crew was extremely professional in all ways. We have asked Doug to do an annual inspection and touch up as needed.

They did their best to keep things as normal at the house as could be with a major project going on. Every day things were cleaned up and no mess was left.

Tom and Doug Bates were very responsive and provided an estimate after a walk through. Upon start of work, the crews showed up everyday and cleaned up every day. Crew was very professional and either Tom or Doug stopped by everyday to check on the work and ask if there was anything I wasn't happy with. Super experience overall. We have received a number of compliments on how good our house looks.

They power washed on a monday, sanded windows and then primed on tuesday, and on wednesday they painted. They were very professional and their painters had been with them for a long period of time.

We called a few different painters and this is the only one that called us back, went by the house and gave us an estimate in a timely manner. They were pretty busy but since we were in a bit of a hurry, they worked us in as soon as they could. The house looks really good and we are very pleased with their work.

It was a great experience and my house looks wonderful. Doug's father gave me a bid last year and originally my house was going to be painted last Fall. Doug called me and said that if I was willing to wait until the Spring he would give me an additional 5% discount (he was already giving me the 5% Angie's List discount.) I agreed but since I was making a drastic change in my house color (taupe to yellow) he painted a sample so I could view it over the winter to see if it was what I wanted. Well, 3 colors later I finally found the perfect yellow. We had a number of rainy days so the job took longer than they had anticipated but the crew did not skimp on the care they took with my house. Everyone has commented on what a great job they did.Mike was the team leader and was there everyday, all day. Doug or his father came every day to see if the crew needed anything and to check in with me. I added things I wanted done (screen repair, porch rails, etc.) and they were always accommodating and did it for a reasonable price. They were not the cheapest or the most expensive quote I got but I can't imagine any crew doing a better job.

Doug was punctual every time we met (from providing the estimate to making the final payment). We waited about 7 weeks from my agreeing to the contract until the beginning of work. The crew of 4-5 worked 4 days on the house. Everything looked fine when they were done. I certainly hope the company is still around when the house needs painting again.

They did a good job. They were great at both, interior and exterior painting. I will absolutely use them again in the future. I wouldn’t use anybody else.

His bid was comparable to others we received, but we selected him because we felt he did the best job responding to our questions. I also liked that he runs a smaller company and always was quick to return messages. It was an eight day job. When the weather cooperated, the three-man crew arrived for a full day of work everyday by 8 am. I was highly impressed with the crew. They treated me with respect and were helpful in answering my questions. I would walk the house every day after work, and they always addressed my concerns the next day. The job took longer than than initial estimate, because we decided to replace additional decorative wood strips. A few months later, we had our gutters replaced and one of our downspouts moved. Doug came by and did the touch-up for free. I would recommend D.A. Bates painting to anyone who wants a quality job at a resonable price. His customer service is excellent.

We did not choose this company. Too pricey compared to others

I sent this company an email asking for a exterior house painting estimate and had no response at all!

They are going to start the exterior next. They did a very good job. I like them and would recommend them. I had cheaper bids but I went with quality. You get what you pay for. I may have payed a little more but I received excellent service. They came when they said they would and finished early.

They did an excellent job, I plan to use them for my interior soon.

Doug and team did an excellent job. Doug spent the time driving around neighborhoods with us to pick the exact color of paint that we wanted. He then took the time to put samples up on the house for us to make the final selection. They spent a lot of time on the prep work. They sprayed and back rolled. They will be back for touch ups once we have the windows put in. They cleaned up everyday. They showed good manners. I would recommend them. They did an excellent job!

I had three companies bid the job; D A Bates' bid came in close but slightly higher than the others but came with extensive list of prep and backed by a 6 year warrantee. Doug Bates (owner) stopped by my house to write-up a bid and returned later to discuss the bid and the colors I wanted to use. On the day they started, Doug had four seasoned and on new employee on site to power wash, scrape and remove storm windows. His employees showed up everyday between 7:00 and 7:15 even though they weren't scheduled to start until 7:30. Though they were early, they were very professional and remained in their trucks (rather than milling around the house) until 7:30. D A Bates spent almost a week prepping the site, scrapping, taping, laying tarps and plastic. They were able to remove all my storms which is something other painters were unable to do since they were calked in place. Unfortunately, a couple of the storms windows glass was broken during the process but D A Bates took them to be fixed at no extra charge. They were very conscientious about moving deck and porch furniture away from the site so they wouldn't get damaged by ladders or overspray and moved all their ladders and supplies to an out-of-the-way place at the end of the day. One of the nicest things D A Bates did was made sure all my double-hung windows (even the ones that have never opened in the 13 years I've lived in my house) were completely functional before leaving. Due to weather it took a little over two weeks to complete the job but it was well worth it. Overall the job went very well. My only real complaint is that the storm windows and house windows weren't cleaned before reinstallation of the storms; after being rained on multiple times and being sacked in the yard the storms are very dirty and I am unable to get to the upper, interior part to clean them and will have to remove them from the house to clean them properly.
