Having done?the same job myself when I was younger and having?the scars to prove it I was delighted to outsource the job this time. No surprises, no muss, no fuss, good price, good value.
Description of Work: The job was simple and straightforward: replacement of our existing kitchen sink faucet with one we had on hand.

Ron, the technician was patient and was easily able to work through some problems that arose with the chandeliers. I feel the prices for work are high but I would use them again because of the quality of work.
Description of Work: Moved two chandeliers. Installed a small door for my cat to get into the basement and removed a microwave that had been installed on the wall.

Description of Work: Our toilet had been leaking around the base and was staining the floor. Don came out, checked the toilet and plumbing below, took out the stained vinyl without disturbing the wall tiles that went all the way to floor, and laid a new sheet of vinyl. The toilet no longer leaks and the floor looks great. He also installed a quick vent under the bathroom sink, replaced the totally clogged drain pipe in the basement that ran from that sink, replaced a rusted water line from the wall to the toilet, installed a new GFI outlet in the bathroom and two GFI outlets in the kitchen, located ground wires for outlets, replaced a florescent light under a kitchen cabinet, and replaced the faucet at the kitchen sink. Don was easy to work with especially as we thought of things to add to the original job. He took pride in his work and truly seemed to enjoy his job. We will be calling on him again for future projects.

+ -1 moreIt could not have turned out any better. I was super happy with everything. I will certainly use this company again because they earned my trust.
Description of Work: A cheery professional voice answered the phone. I would like to give kudos to the gal, but I didn't write down her name. I explained to her that I had a minor leak at my water spicket in my back yard. The Shut off valve inside my basement was closed but the spicket continued to leak. At first it appeared that it may take several days to get someone to my home to fix the leak. I expressed my concern that though the leak was outside and was very minor, temperatures outside had been dropping and I did want water to freeze in the pipes. So she made some adjustments to the schedule and shifted some appointments. Now I don't know if they will be able to do that for you, but I was impressed that they were willing and able to do that for me. And so Don was scheduled I believe the next day to come out and do the job. Well I got a call from Don that same first night, confirming the appointment. He explained to me his availability on the appointed day, and that he might be able to arrive several hours earlier than scheduled. I agreed that earlier was indeed better. He promised to call me as soon as he finished the prior appointment and come right over. I was happy. So the morning of the appointment came and I failed to hear my cell phone ring because I was vacuuming and cleaning and had music on. I missed three early calls from Don over about a three hour period. I felt so bad because I may have ruined Don's productivity at other potential jobs that he may have been able to work in. But I called Don and he came right over at the originally appointed time. IF I messed Don up, he never let me know it. He had a smile on his face and was super nice. Now I had never met Don before, but you can just tell the instant you meet him that he's very personable and professional. So Don took five mins to figure out that a simple washer and a screw was all it would take to fix the leak. He offered to do it, but said it is super easy for me to do it and would save me a bit of money. So I went to Lowe's and got the washer and the screw. It took me all of 3 mins to do the job myself. I ended up spending a couple of dollars at Lowe's and only $40.00 for Don to come out. I was prepared to spend what I thought would be at least a couple hundred for something a bit more complicated.

Decided to go with Handy Man matters based not only on price but on the basis of my phone conversations with Lisa, the woman I spoke with over the phone. Don was our handy man technician the first time. There seem to be some confusion on the exact start time so he was late arriving but we were quite pleased with the finished product. Opening up the doorway an extra two feet has made a world of difference in our ability to get in and out of the closet. And the master bath looks totaly transformed with the new stool and fresh, clean grout. Thanks, Don. For Job #2 we had Nick, another nice gentleman with a good working knowledge of his craft. He removed rotten wood from both my house and my mother's house and replaced the trim with new materials. Turned out great. Wish I would have done it three years ago. Thanks for the good Work, Nick. There were a few minor details the lead to the B rating but maybe not worth going into details on. My overall experience was positive. One job came in slightly under the estimate, the other slightly over. As to the main question: Would I used Handyman Matters again? The answer is YES - not only will I use them again, but obviously I have. If you have work needed to be done around the house I would recommend you at least call them for an estimate - I'm glad I did.
Description of Work: Job #1: Bi-fold closet doors expanded from 4 feet to 6 feet. Old Stool removed, now high-efficiency stool installed. Old shower door removed, shower tiles re-grouted. Front door jamb repaired. Job #2: Replaced rotting wood on exterior windows and replace and repair rotting wood on walk-out basement door threshold.

These guys were very responsive, came right out, very friendly, got the work done quickly, and overall it was an excellent experience. They seemed very interested in customer satisfaction.

+ 1 moreMy first experience with this company was positive. Lisa was very friendly on the phone and spent a lot of time talking about the company and what they did. Don arrived on time, assessed what projects I wanted done and gave me an approximate amount of time to complete. He fixed one outlet quickly with no issues. Started on the window ledges and realized he didn't have all the carpentry tools with him that he needed. Plus needed to run to Home Depot to get the new wood and a new switch plate for another outlet. He was to be gone for an hour, but ended up being about 2.5 hours (had a few complications and then ended up running over to a 1:00 appointment) but did not charge me for the time delay. I was home all day anyway so I was okay with this. He called multiple times while gone to keep me updated on the progress. He was back about 3:00 with the completed window ledges. They looked great! I left them unfinished because I was going to paint them anyway. He finished the rest of the projects in about an hour. 2.75 hours all total. I also like that they offer a coupon which saved me $25. I was very happy with the work and have more projects for them to complete!
Description of Work: Two window ledges replaced (due to dog scratch/damage) one window ledge adjusted (due to shifting of the house); outlet adjusted and light switch fixed.

+ 9 moreHandyman Matters sent Don to us early in 2012 for the first job and we have called on them repeatedly since then. We are remodeling a three story Victorian house in Pendleton Heights; this is both a joy for us and a great challenge for any contractor. Don is very professional and never complains or whines about the surprises that he unevitably finds in our 100+ year old home. If you have ever worked with any contractors, you know how important and unfortunately rare this quality is. He is always a pleasure to work with and I know he will do the job right no matter what it takes. He first completed a stunning black slate tile shower wall for us. The job was very challenging; he worked in a tight space with sloping walls yet managed to complete the job to perfection. Since that first project he also moved a claw-foot tub up to a second story bathroom, managed to get it into the space that was not large enough and make it look great. He installed a specialty tub fixture that was a big challenge. In this bathroom he hung beautiful lights and re-installed window and door trim that had been removed. For this portion of the project he had to actually create a matching window sill that had been lost in the renovations. I think most importantly to me, he transformed my mother's dresser into a sink vanity for me. He understood how important this piece was to me and that I was a bit nervous about cutting a hole in this very sentimental piece of furniture. He put the care and attention into it that I needed and this bathroom is absolutely stunning and I think of my mother every time I walk in that space. She would have loved it! Handyman matters works with me within my budget contraints and I know I'll always get my money's worth. Handyman Matters has completed many projects for us and will do many more. I highly recommend them. Don is very responsible and personable and I think he is more than a handyman, a more fitting title is craftsman.
Description of Work: Tiling, plumbing; installing corner shower, claw-foot tub, and multiple sinks, repairing old toilets and installing new ones, carpentry, electrical troubleshooting, repairing and hanging old doors, removing a door and sheet rocking the opening in the wall, expanding the opening of a patio door and installing a new one, repairing lights, hanging lights and ceiling fans, installing bannisters and much more that I probably am forgetting.

They did a good job in cleaning, they have repaired the flush mechanism of the toilet, and they did some extra works on other parts that needed to be fixed. They find the needed parts and came after few days and completed the job. They did a really good job, I think they can do small or big jobs. I will recommend them.
