They had a flat rate for service calls. That was what attracted us to them at first. I'm glad we didn't have to use them because it would have been so expensive. The person who came out was fine though.
Description of Work: One of the switches for the element on our cook top went out. They didn't have the switch with them, so I ended up just buying a new cook top because it would have been so expensive.

I called and even though the yellow pages said same day service, they insisted on two days from now. Also, the lady answering the phone was not pleasant at all. When I told her that it was a Neptune washer, she said that they don't work on them because they are too hard. When I asked who I should call, she said that I have to call around. Not helpful at all!! I will have to think twice before calling them again.

They came when they said they were going to. They were very helpful and showed how to shut off the water supply in case of emergency so I didn't have that concern. He got the part in a very timely fashion. Overall good experience.

They did a good job of diagnosing the problem, securing the needed part (which was only available in St. Louis) and finished the job by coming out on a Saturday morning. The responsiveness of their call center was great and the repair people were knowledgeable and courteous.
Description of Work: I had what became a complicated refrigerator repair. Initially it appeared that the control panel had gone out, but later they determined that it was the thermostat. The refrigerator had shut off while we were gone on vacation and we had an enormous mess that required us dismantling all the refrigerator bins, drawers, shelves, racks, etc. We had a very hard time getting everything back together and the repair person helped us with that even though we were the ones who disassembled it to clean it.

Rick (tech) called before the appointment time to let me know he was on his way. He arrived earlier than expected which was a pleasant surprise. Rick was very professional and personable and, after listening to my summary of the problem, went right to work diagnosing the problem. He didn't mind that I watched as he was working and explained everything he was doing. I even got a mini-lesson in refrigeration, which I found very interesting. After Rick completed the work he explained what I needed to look for to avert further problems before they became serious. Rick cleaned up the work area before he left which was much appreciated. Thank you, Rick, for a wonderful experience. Able will definitely get all my future appliance repair business. They certainly seem to be a company built on integrity and professionalism.
Description of Work: Ice was forming on the bottom of the freezer in my side-by-side. The tech removed the freezer panel which covered the defrost mechanism and found the drain pipe plugged and unplugged it. He also noticed some shorts on the heating element and manually put the freezer in defrost mode to check it. He determined that the defrost cycle was not nearly long enough. He recommended the installation of a new bi-metal switch to lengthen the defrost cycle and I gave the ok. He also indicated that the heating element may have to be replaced later but that it would be ok for now.

First, we called Able because of their $9 cost to come and diagnose the problem. That was very much better than anything else we found (like the $64 we were quoted by a major appliance company people. The gentleman (sorry I forgot his name) came in and had a HUGE job to get at and replace the part; but he got it done. Sadly, but to the credit of Able, something went wrong about a month later - the problem recurred. When he came back out, he had to pretty much repeat that big job. Apparently the replacement part failed or may have been broken when we moved the fridge back into its sort of built-in space. But he did the job - AT NO FURTHER COST TO US - and everything has been fine since. We're most pleased.
Description of Work: The freezer side of our refrigerator wasn't working. It was quite a large job to move the fridge around and get at the broken part, but he got it done.

My old refrigerator had stopped running late in the day. I checked Angie's List and found Able. I called to see if someone could come out that same day and she said someone would be at my home shortly. A very nice young man named Justin arrived in a short time. In the meantime I had unplugged the refrigerator and then plugged it back up and it had restarted. He explained about the overload relay capacitor and the charges to fix it. I decided that, because of the age of the refrigerator, I might as well get a new one so I declined the service. Justin gave me a lot of helpful information regarding the new refrigerators. His advise made me more knowledgeable in knowing what to look for and what to ask for. He had to come quite a distance to help me and he was very polite and knowledgeable. I will certainly have Justin back when problems arise.

The service charge was great. The tech was very personable. He said it could've been a couple of things and tried the thing that wasn't; it ended up being the compressor. He had to come back a second time and didn't charge me for that. In the end, because it was still under warranty an Amana serviceman repaired it. Able never contacted me back regarding a refund.
Description of Work: The freezer was not working. He recommended a starter, came out and put it on.

John was not only on time, but was 15-minutes early. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a loose hose connection and reattached it. He only charged me $9.95 for the call which was on a Saturday no less. John was very honest and friendly and I would certainly recommend this company.

We've used Able before and though they may be pricey, we feel they do very professional and competent work. They're polite, professional and they know what they're doing.
Description of Work: Our dryer had (all of a sudden) stopped working. A serviceman from Able came out on a Saturday (no extra charge) and after looking at the dryer offered up a couple of scenarios of what happened. His first one, a blown thermal fuse, was correct. He replaced the fuse and also cleaned out the back of the dryer.

Doug was on time and very professional in his assessment of my possible problem(s) with my washer. He asked me questions and answered mine . He balanced my washer . He explained to me how to balance it. He also observed and listened to any odd noises coming from within it. He spent about 30-40 minutes checking things. He charged me only for the service call and told me it was good for 30 days and to call them if I continued to hear any odd noises. I did 2 loads of wash after he left and I think that the rebalancing was the problem. The washer was working fine. I would certainly contact this company again for any appliance problems.
Description of Work: Checked for my complaint of a noisey washer. Rebalanced washer and checked overall condition of my washer for any specific problems. None were found.

THE REPAIRMAN CAME IN AND KNEW RIGHT AWAY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WHILE I WAS OVERALL HAPPY WITH THE EXPERIENCE, I'M NOT SURE THE GENTLEMAN INTRODUCED HIMSELF.
