On Monday of the week of the repair, the dryer ceased drying clothes. I called Able and they could come out the afternoon that I called, but I could not get away from work and we scheduled a time on Thursday morning. Mark called before he was to arrive to make sure he understood the problem. When he arrived he checked the system out and discovered that the heating coil was snapped and replaced it. The effort to repair lasted less than 1 hour.
Description of Work: My Maytag dryer was not producing any heat to dry laundry. Replaced the heating coil.

The service call was only $9.95. He told us it would take $500 to fix the washer so we decided to buy a new one. He was very honest. The other people I called charge about $95 to come and look at it so we would have been frustrated if we had done that. He just told us what it would cost to repair our washer but he didn?t fix it.

It's 9 months later, and we have not had another problem. Able certainly could have soaked us for a new $300 motor, but instead, they opted to try a cheaper fix first. I am very glad that they did!
Description of Work: Our front loading Whirlpool dryer stopped working, so we called Able Appliance Repair, and they sent someone out the same day. He determined that the motor was the problem, and fixed it by simply turning it by hand (apparently, it was stuck). He said that he had likely corrected the problem, but that if the same problem occurred again within 30 days, he would recommend replacing the motor itself.

I called Able the week of Feb. 8 for repair. The first technician couldn't come out as scheduled, so he came out the next day. He diagnosed the issue but didn't have parts. He said parts would arrive in 3-4 days. He didn't follow up and two weeks later I called Able back. They immediately sent over another technician with the correct parts and the entire repair was complete in a couple of hours. Great service once I spoke with their office manager and once the second technician was assigned. I am happy with their service.

The response was fairly quick and the repairman looked over the refridgerator and immediatly told me the possible causes and costs involved in the repair. Fortunately the problem was the least expensive of the options. The repair wass quickly done and I am very pleased with the entire experience.

He was quick, polite, thorough, and punctual. He called when he was on his way, arrived in a timely manner, worked quickly and efficiently, cleaned up after his work, and was quick and courteous with the paperwork. We discussed our options and I was confident in the service. He actually went above and beyond by calling me back that evening to relay another thought he had on our problem. I will happily call Able again when I am in need of appliance repair!
Description of Work: The technician took a look at our spare refrigerator. The freezer stopped working. He arrived, I led him to our very cold garage where the fridge was located, and he got to work. He checked the appliance over thoroughly (and quickly) then told me what he thought was wrong. It was not something we were prepared to fix (i.e. would cost more than replacing the fridge) so he did not complete any further repairs, but cleaned up and wrote out the ticket.

There was no project done besides the troubleshooting of the issue.
Description of Work: The company sent a technician that confirmed that my refrigerator's compressor was broken. He suggested buying a new fridge because the price of the compressor would be close to the price of a new fridge. My fridge was old and in great need of an upgrade. I was extremely pleased with the technician's report because he did not try to sell me a new compressor. He actually recommended a store that sells scratch and dent refrigerators at remarkably affordable prices. His service was amazing and extremely useful! I went great. Jake called me when he was on his way and quickly diagnosed the problem. He did not have the replacement circuit board on the truck, but this worked out well because I was able to shut down the unit and let it completely defrost overnight. He again called on Tuesday to let me know he was on his way and quickly swapped out the circuit boards. I am a repeat customer of Able and would highly recommend them for major appliance repair.

My dishwasher would not drain properly. I called Able Appliance on Thursday afternoon, they were going to schedule a repair the following day but I was going out of town and scheduled for a 2-5pm appointment the following Tuesday. The repairman (Jim), called me promptly at 1:45, got directions from me and was at my home at 2:00pm. Jim was there less than 10 min as he immediately found the problem as a clog in the entrance to the garbage disposal. Jim was personable, and very knowledgeable and I would not hesitate to use their service again.

I called Monday morning early, after being without my washing machine all weekend, and the person answering the phones said she could have someone out between 9 and 12 that day. My serviceman arrived (after calling us) about 9:30am. He was very knowledgeable, and explained that my machine needed a new water pump, which was expensive, but he felt that the machine was in good condition, and worth the repair. I also asked if he could put on new stainless steel fill hoses that I had purchased. He didn't recommend the type of hoses I had purchased, explaining that they are designed to lock up when they sense the water pressure has increased, and therefore there might be a break in the line. He had some that he liked and put those on. His were also a stainless steel type, only without the locks.....he said the locks malfunction often and I would be paying a plumber to come out and unlock them, and stainless steel hoses don't fail. (I have since checked that information out and both plumbers I queried agreed with him). There was a little sweeping up to do after he left, but overall, I was very pleased with the repair.

So this is why I subscribed to Angie's List. Our refrigerator stopped cooling and freezing over the weekend. From the list, I selected Abel Appliance Repair. First I was surprised when they said that they would be at my house later that same morning. I kept thinking, no way. I'm going to get some lame call to cancel or reschedule. By 10 am, Mark of Abel calls and lets me know that he is on the way and will be at my house in about 10 minutes. Mark came in and proceeded to work on the fridge. He amped out the current draw and checked a couple of circuits with his meter and then told me what was broke, the cost and the risk to fixing it. Since we had left the refrigerator plugged in, the compressor could have burned up and replacing the starter may not fix it. He offered me the Abel guarantee that if it doesn't work, I'm only out the price of the service call of $10. Mark did his magic and the fridge has been working great. Not only am I excited about the fridge being fixed, but I'm glad to know who to call next when the next (knock knock knock) appliance decides to misbehave. For what Mark did, $240 seemed high at first, but I think this is more a matter of experience than being overcharged. Mark put me right at ease and I got the impression that he had done this a thousand times before and knew exactly what was broke by listening to the fridge or maybe a vulcan mind meld. This was a great experience and I truly was impressed with Mark's professionalism and honesty. Abel has a good one there.

I called Able on Friday, 10/25/09. A repairman was schedule to arrive the next morning. Prior to coming out, Jake called to discuss the problem. I told him that I believed the water pump was broke. He agreed and immediately checked to see if he had the part. He called back in a timely manner and explained that the part would need to be ordered. He quoted me a price and said that the part would be in Monday and he could be out to install it that same day. Jake was very professional and I was impressed with his expertise. I will definitely call this company again.

Repair went fine, and it was nice of him to come in the evening. However, there was some confusion between the person making the appointment and the repairman. A change to the appointment time because of the late hour wasn't either wasn't communicated or wasn't listened to. Turned out fine in the end.

At the beginning, he was gung ho about doing things for us but he kept putting it off. This morning, I dismissed him after about four weeks of stalling. They installed a sensor in the oven but that did not fix the problem. Since then, he has told me that I need a very expensive part to get the oven working correctly and that it would take three days. That was three weeks ago. He failed to do what he said he was going to do and the oven still does not work. He may be good at some things but he was not able to help me.

Great experience. Called on a Sunday and had a response Sunday evening for an appointment immediately. Serviceman arrived and diagnosed the problem immediately as a faulty control timer. Called several parts places to get the best possible price. Had to come back to install timer. Serviceman was courteous enough to come back, when I felt that the work was not performed correctly. He educated me on how the washing machine should work and showed that the work he performed was accurate. A great experience overall and would highly recommend them for any issues with appliances.

The service technician, Rick Davis, was excellent. He called at the exact appointment time, arrived 15 minutes later and had the repairs diagnosed and fixed within 45 minutes.

I wish that the person taking the call would have mentioned the fact about icemakers being replaced and not repaired. It may have impacted the decision at the moment.
Description of Work: The icemaker on a four year old refrigerator was not making ice; the water source was fine. He explained when he arrived that they don't repair ice makers, that they only replace them. He had a compatible maker in his vehicle and replaced the existing one.

Thier staff was very friendly, but not very knowledgable it seemed. Our air conditioning unit had failed last year, and for a little while we were just dealing with it until it became too hot to bear. We called them to come in and take a look at the air conditioning unit to see if we could get it resolved. When they first came in, the technician took a look at the AC unit and Furnace, and determined that we needed a new sensor of some sort inside the A/C unit, that he would have to order. 2-3 days later he returned with the part, installed it, and left. The following day we had to call him back out because it was still not working. He returned and determined that the condenser needed to be repaired. At this point, my wife has been getting sick the point where we had to rush her to the emergency room. The heat in the house was making it far worse, with her temperature rising to 102-104 several times. I spoke with the technician and he said that they simply did not keep any spare parts in stock for these, as Lennox was not a common A/C unit. (According to my HVAC Certified Father in law, Lennox is one of the leading 2-3 brands) Thier site (http://www.ableappliance.net/) lists them as a 24/7 emergency repair service. The technician said that there may be a compressor unit that he could get ahold of somewhere in Overland Park. The following day he came back and installed the compressor, but still could not get it to function. He came back twice more over the next 2 days, unable to repair it. They then began to say they would charge me for each visit, until I mentioned I would be speaking to my lawyer in regards to both that, and the increasing medical costs partially related to thier inability to provide the guaranteed service. I spoke with the office many times, explaining the urgency and asking if there was anyone else that this technician could request assistance from. They said that he was the best that they had. Getting frustrated, I spoke with my father-in-law who suggested Niel-Harris, so I gave them a call. They came over within 2 hours of the call being placed, and has us up and running within a couple of hours. They also did not charge for the diagnosis or emergency service fee due to our already bad experience with it, simply for the repair itself. They mentioned that this was the most common air conditioning unit in the area, so they kept a good stock of repair parts for it, as any emergency service should.
