After writing to Angies list, the company responded and did get the problem resolved. Some of the problem was a lack of communication between the tenant and the repairman regarding times available for return service, however, I was not contacted at the time. They have since called several times to check on the outcome and I have therefore changed the initial rating.
Description of Work: Called to have a dishwasher repaired in sept- the appliance was 1 yr and 1month old so out of warranty. The repair man came out and said that there were two parts broken which seemed unusual for a new dishwasher. He also said the parts had to be ordered and would return by weeks end. He did not return as promised. This has been going on now ( January 24) forever. He came and installed one of the parts but the other is at the house, and, he has not returned to install it. I would definitely avoid using this company. They are not reliable and not sure if the repair person even had any idea how to fix the appliance. Still waiting for him to return. He has said he has problems arranging a time with tenant- I am available 24/7 so not a very good excuse.

I was called back shortly after sending out the request. The appointment was for the first day I was able to be at home. I received a call at the expected time to let me know the repairman was on his way. Jim was courteous. He checked out the dishwasher and knew exactly what to do to fix it. I was extremely pleased with the results.

I picked Able based on all of the positive reviews. I must say that my experience was just the opposite. The cancelled and rescheduled the original appointment, they failed to order the correct part, and they didn't show up for the follow up appointment when they where scheduled to make the repair. I received no call or notice that the repair person was not showing up due to taking the day off of work. I contacted Able and spoke to the owner. He apologized for my experience and offered to give me a discount for my inconvenience. I never received the discount and my follow up calls to inquire about the discount were never returned. I'm inn the customer service business, so I understand that mistakes can be made. However, broken promises and unresposiveness are not acceptable. I would not recommend this company.

I called Able and they sent someone to my home that day. Charlie was prompt and courteous. He helped me empty the fridge and freezer, giving me advice on what to save and what to toss. He was in and out in a few hours. He even cleaned a few parts that were in dire need. The only odd comment I would make was that he left two tools at my house. I called and left a voicemail letting him now. I never heard back. But I would most definitely call them for future repairs.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator stopped working days before a huge holiday party we had planned. Charlie, the Able technician, was able to tell after inspection that the motherboard was bad. Fortunately he had the part on hand.

It was a stress free environment. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The only cost I had was for the visit. It was well worth it. This company is great, and I will definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: My drtyer was making a real racket as it worked. I called them to initially get an estimate on repair. The serviceman was very prompt, efficient, and friendly. He took the time to look over the dryer to prepare an estimate. He showed me where the problem was and why it really needed repaired. Unfortunately, he also took the time to show me that my dryer was too old (over 20 years) and the parts needed to repair it were discontinued.

I had called Able because of their low charge ($9.95) for a service call and the recommended rating from Angie's List. Was able to set up an evening appointment during the week which was a major plus. Tech arrived about 30 minutes late (no call, I called to confirm he was still coming) and made diagnosis within minutes accompanied with a quote for repair. Had part on truck and finished job in about 35 minutes from arrival. I had an expired coupon that he allowed me to still use. I was quite happy with the with the overall experience and would not hesitate to call Able for any other problems I might have in the future.
Description of Work: Diagnosed that interior cooling fan had quit. Upon further inspection found cooling fan had gone bad, removed and replaced, reinstalled interior panels, confirmed that refrigerator was now working correctly.

Quick scheduling was a plus. Technician Doug was prompt, called ahead. Fast diagnosis, had part on the truck! The flood proof hose became an issue with new valve letting water in faster- he offered to return same day with new hose, no charge for that part. In addition to the repair today, Doug was extremely helpful offering more information on how my dishwasher would perform better. I will definitely use Abel again. The service I had used in the past charged a very high 'service call' whether they fixed anything or not! I am so happy to have Angie's list to check ratings. This is a winner.

When the technicians arrived to diagnose my fridge, I told them that it had "flooded" and the electronics were fried. Of course, they looked at the fridge and determined the electronics were fried. The technician, more concerned about telling me what I had to spend, immediately called and quoted me a price, telling me I had to give them the $$ before the work was done because they had to order the part. I said, I don't want to buy new electronics when there is a reason why there is a flood in the fridge. Then they finally believed me that there was a problem and discovered that the problem was a cracked filter. We had installed the filter so I felt that if that was the problem the refrigerator company could pay for it. The technician told me that I wouldn't be likely to convince them to do it but I could do that retroactively after purchasing the new electronics. In other words, have him fix it and then I could go to the company for payment. The only problem is that he didn't tell me that he's not authorized to do work on this fridge so the company would not likely have paid his services. And when I called, the company agreed to pay for the part but not the labor. I will give Able appliance credit that the technician wrote the receipt to explain that the problem was with the filter. The technician ordered the part, it took several days to get in, and came to install it. Turns out, it was the wrong electronic part, which, according to him was not his fault in ordering. The fridge company apparently makes it difficult for people who are not certified to find the correct part. Of course, I didn't know this until after I had already put down money for the service. With the one part, the fridge was at least cooling so he said I could use it. The second part had to be ordered, so I go into another week of a dysfunctional fridge. I said that I needed this fixed immediately as soon as the part came in. I was assured that wouldn't be a problem. As it turns out, the part came in as ordered, but it didn't come in until the technician left for the day so it ended up being even longer before I could get it put in because I had family visiting--the reason why I said the fridge had to be fixed by a certain day. But the technician assured me that because the fridge was cooling, it wouldn't be a problem. Then, on Sunday, the day before he came, the fridge quit working. For the 3d time, I had to move all of the food out of the fridge. I put in an SOS call to the company and got no response. On Monday, he came to fix the fridge. The electronic part, evidently, at least worked to cool the fridge and give the right temperature. After a long time of frustration, he finally got it installed and working. At that point, I was done with this company. Disappointed in the promises made and the inability to fix my fridge. I will give the company credit, they did show that they were trying to fix the problem and resolve the issue. However, if you don't have the ability to fix the product, you should just admit this in the beginning rather than drag the customer through weeks of waiting for you to figure it out. I would have been better off paying the $$ for the initial visit to diagnose the problem and then contacting the fridge company for support. In the end, my fridge is cooling but all of the functions of my electronics are not available to me. When I try to make extra ice, it just pumps up the freezing in my fridge. The function to tell me when the filter needs to be changed doesn't work. I think the goal for the company was to get my fridge working again, but this doesn't change the fact that I don't have the same functions I had prior to the changes.

I am very disappointed that you are trying to make it sound as if you were forces to use our company. It is true that our company requires payment on jobs when parts have to be ordered from the manufacturers. The reason for this is that our experience that people change their minds after having service companies order parts for appliances and heating and cooling equipment that our company does not own and did not break. If you want your equipment fixed it your responsibility to pay for your replacement parts that have to be ordered! Suppliers have started to charge service companies very expensive restocking fees because this part ordered by our company is considered what the suppliers call “non-stock items,” as they don’t sell many of these products. the member is also not telling that this product was out of warranty and I was very surprised to find out that the manufacturers covered a product out of warranty. I am quite sure most of us have experienced being rejected help on products out of warranty. Fortunately for the member she obviously knows how to get what she wants and knows what to say to get it. She also does not have to hire someone to represent them in this matter as she informed me that she herself was an attorney. the member is also correct that because we are not factory authorized by Frigidaire that we did have trouble getting the correct part even though the supplier had the correct model number & serial number. It is also correct that the member called in and SOS on a Sunday that we were not open. I would suggest to the member that she might contact the manufacturers and try to get expert testimony from the manufacturers to why their ice maker is not making ice fast enough to her satisfaction, because in my expert testimony the only way to make ice faster is to freeze the ice faster as the ice maker has its own thermostat to cycle the ice when the water freezes. In the end it is my testimony under oath that the member had and has not contacted our company to alert us that her refrigerator was not operating correctly. Mark was on-time, pleasant, knowlegeable and repaired the refrigerator in less than an hour. I was pleased to have a same day service call which probably saved some spoilage of food. Total charge of $204 seems a bit high as the part replaced was a fan motor that was a standard part carried on the truck.

Technician arrived on time. I was surprised at his diagnosis, as I was convinced it was the pump, but all it needed was to clean the clogged filter. He advised us to use some CLR in the was cycles for the next few times. We followed his instructions, and the disherwasher is gradually getting much better. It was refreshing to find a technician who was so honest and efficient. I have their sticker affixed to the face of the dishwasher now so we can refer to them anytime we need any other appliance services.

As mentioned above ... repairman finished the job. I payed the $1,300.00 bill -- would have preferred to have the bill show parts & labor. The air conditioner is still running and the house is still on the warm side but it's almost 90 and it's 9am in the morning.
Description of Work: After 2 visits, replace evaporator coil .. 8/9/10 came to check air conditioner. Checked outside unit found it low on freon .. added freon -- took about 5 minutes charged $200 for 3 lbs of freon. Air conditioner performed as usual for 1 day then 8/11/10 called Able Appliance Repair since air conditioner wasn't operating. Repairman came out 8/11/10 & then checked blower system inside and informed that coil was leaking freon. Said that they were able to 'get a new one' by tomorrow afternoon ... total bill (parts & labor) $1300.00 I said okay & repairman was to return to my house by noon on 8/12/10 and it would take all afternoon. Did receive credit for the freon added on 8/9/10. Repairman didn't show up until 1:15pm -- should have called -- complained to him that he should have called . He tried to explain .. but I stated a call takes 2-3 minutes and I'm sitting here in my house & the inside temperature is 91.

My family and I have been very happy with them. They were able to clean-out the defrost hole of the fridge, so I didn't have to get a new one, which I was very happy about. The price of the service call is included with the cost for the labor and parts. They are very responsive and arrive when they say they are going to and call when they receive the necessary part for the repair. The one downfall was that they tried to sell me a service policy, which I really didn't feel I needed. When they came for the washing machine they wanted to sell me a service package. They kept persisting in asking me to sign up for the package. I didn't like that he was so pushy. It seemed like the parts were overpriced.

Initially she asked if I would be home the next morning, but when I stated it was an emergency said she would try to get someone that afternoon. She called back and said Jake would be coming that afternoon. Jake then called to say he would be there in a few hours. Jake called again when he was on his way. When he came, he said the good news would be a bad relay. The bad news would be the compressor, which would be more expensive than a new unit. He put the relay on and thought for a moment it had worked. When it didn't, he gave me advice on what brand to buy and where to buy it. Then he did not charge for either relay or service call.
Description of Work: Refrigerator/Freezer problem - Freezer was melting. Serviceman said it would be a relay or the compressor. He put on a relay. When the relay did not work, he said he would leave it on until a new refrigerator/freezer was installed. Then he said I had had enough trouble that day and would not need to pay for either the relay or the service call.

Although the part was expensive, Able performed great. They could come the same day and this was important because the refrigerator was badly overheating, and this was the Saturday before the 4th of July. They said someone would come after 5:00 and showed up around 7:00 PM. He went straight to the source of the problem, and was friendly and clean. Quite professional. PS There were no overtime (saturday) charges and actually charged only $9.99 for the call as they quoted over the phone. REMARKABLE! Not to mention the 10% discount for using Angie's List.

My wife called on Friday and was pleasntly supprised to find out they could have someone out that Saturday, with no extra service fee. The service man got there late afternoon (we did not have an appiontment time) but it was a short stop. He was friendly and knowledgeable, and quickly helped us determine that we did not want to pay to repair our old washing machine. He also gave me some prices on having some maintenance done on our dryer and frig.
Description of Work: Looked over our washing machine that had stopped working. Unfortantley it would have been more expensive to fix than by new (water pump, suspension, and bearings). He also looked at our dryer and frig that need some maintenance.

I called the OP number first thing Friday morning, June 25th. Explained my front loading washer had an error code come up that I had water flow/pressure issues. The lady asked if an afternoon appt would be OK and yes they would call me before they came. Around 12:15 or so I get a call from a Jake and I again explain the issue. I told him I had already talked to the water dept and it had to be the washer. He kind of him-haws around, "well it may be this or it may be that, I just don't know". "Let me ask some of the guys in the shop and see what they say." He calls me again at 1 pm and says he's asked around and they all agree that it's probably the water pressure valve. I asked as patiently as I could, how could he possibly know that since he hasn't even been to my house and even looked at the washing machine? Well he's pretty sure and that's what the guys thought. He may have one there at the shop. He'll look around and let me know By 4:20 pm I still have not heard back from Jake so I called him (Thank You Caller ID). I said who I was and wondered if he had found a water pressure valve, "Oh yea" he responds "I tried to call you once then forgot." *I was on the phone a whole 20 minutes with my mother from 1:30-1:50 pm! He didn't have a valve but he thought he could get one from Louisville by Monday afternoon. No one in the city has one because those front loaders are so specialized you know? No, I don't know since I've never had any problems with my front loader! I told Jake to order the water pressure valve that would cost me approximately $200+ I then called my neighbor to ask if I could bring some clothes to her house to wash. She asked me if I had looked at the hose screens? NO. . . She and I cleaned the hose screens with a toothbrush and the washer is running fine! I'm furious that Jake did not come to my house, look at the machine and assess the situation. *I'm a nurse, if that would have been a patient, it would have been dead! I'm also angry that I was told (and I was willing to buy) a part that no one even knew would work just because some guys thought that would fix it! Funny, after I posted my experience on my facebook page, I'm not the only one who has had a problem with this company.

As for Jake not coming to your house to diagnose your low water pressure, I apologize! We demand that our service technicians not make any diagnosis over the phone! Secondly I and by your own admission agreed that it was a supply Valve Issue, water was not getting through the valve to the washer dispenser. I would like for you to know that Jake was penalized for not doing his job 1st by bad response time and 2nd failing to go to your house to diagnose your problem! I am very happy to hear that you are a nurse and that no one died in this matter, and that you didn't have to spend $200.00 or whatever the charges may have been. As for my poor response time, I have no excuse except for that we have been through some changes at Able Appliance Heating and Cooling, and I am in the service field from 7:00am to 9:00 sometimes 12:00 pm for the last few months because we have experienced because of quality work that is normally performed by our company. I truly regret your poor experience in this matter. I wish you would not have contacted Jake on his personal cell phone and would have called our business line for us to respond more appropriately by alerting a person in charge to follow up on our service technicians. Had compressor go out on the 13th and while checking out the refrigerator repairman noted the thermostat board was not functioning properly-he replaced it free with a part he had in his truck. On the 27 the thermostat quit working and the repairman told me he would be by at 10 am. He arrived at 11:50-too late to order a part due to the holiday weekend(the repair office evidently closed before noon instead of at noon. Part was not available until June 2 and although I was told the appointment for repair was in the morning he didn't arrive until afternoon. Because he was coming early in the day I had not gotten more dry ice and lost even more of my food. I think that communication was the main problem because the repairs were done quickly.

I hope you understand this is completely out of our control as for the part getting ordered on the 27th of June that part was ordered by a system called Swift Link later that day and again out of our control when local part supplies do not have parts in stock. I called Saturday morning around 11:00. The dispatcher told me the technician only had a couple calls before us, which gave me the impression our wait would be 2-3 hours. He didn't call until until after 5:00. I was unable to reach anyone in the meanwhile to check status (when I called their answering system was not working), so was stuck at home all day. I'll cut them a break on the rating since it was Saturday. After Mark arrived, he diagnosed and repaired the problem (a faulty starter) fairly easily. I'm very happy with the result, but the process was frustrating because of the longer than expected wait and no way to communicate.

Very well. They promised to arrive in a 9-noon window; technician arrived shortly after 10am. He diagnosed problem and the charge was only $10, since he can't do the repair job himself.
Description of Work: Washer leaking water; technician took washer apart, diagnosed problem as a clogged drain. We need to call a plumber.

Someone was supposed to come between 12 to 2 from Able Appliance Repair, I havent got any call till 1.45 so I called their office. Then Doug called me saying he's getting late. He arrvied by 2.20pm. He found problem with water valve. He seems to be knowledgeable. Dishwasher is working fine. He also suggested I should use dishwasher cleaner as I have some mineral deposits on inside parts. By 2.45pm he was done. I paid around $210, I dont know if thats more or its standard. But I am glad, my dishwasher got fixed and I got the appointment on the same day I called.
