Description of Work: Water was pouring out the ice dispenser outlet onto the kitchen floor. I turned off the water valve in basement. I scheduled the appoint for the next day in the morning. Justin called that morning and determined what the problem was over the phone and arrived at my home within an hour, with the new valve. This particular valve had to work with my 1996 kitchen aid refrigerator. Justin gave me a lot of advice during his time at my home, which I greatly appreciated.

I called the company and set an appointment for the next day. They called later that afternoon and said they had someone in my area and could come that day after all. Unfortunately I was not at home at the time, but I appreciated the fact they called and tried to get me taken care of sooner. The next morning, the service tech called and confirmed directions to my home, arrived when he said he would, and immediately went to work. When he had reconnected the hose that had become disconnected and tested the water shut-off function at all levels of the fill cycle, he cleaned up all his tools and left my washer back in place with everything connected and ready to use. I asked him about another piece that had broken off and, rather than offer to order the part and come back out for another service call (which I'm sure many others would have done), he told me I could pick up the part somewhere and change it out myself and save a lot of money. The price for the service call was much less than I was expecting, and the service was exemplary. I would use them again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: The technician figured out what was wrong with my washing machine, which was only a hose that had gotten disconnected. He hooked it back up, tested it several times, and that was it. Another piece had broken off, but he even told me that I could replace it myself if I wanted to, but the machine was probably fine without it.

Called to repair oven which was not heating up. Said they would be there after 4pm the followiing day but came early when my daughter was home and not me. Fixed the stove as above--fixed burned out wire. But when he plugged the stove in, the main board shorted out. He asked if we had problems with our electrical circuits.At this time he oven would go on but would not go off and had to be unplugged. Although we have had some issues, none have been with the stove which is on a separate outlet. Estimated repair at $335. Said he would order part the next day and could fix it the following day (Weds) I asked him to com to fix on Thursday. Said he would be there after 12n. At about 1pm, called him to see if he got the part and was still coming. Acted like he forgot, called for the part, called me back for the part number, then called me back again to say that part was unavailable and would have to be shipped in. Could have it in several days. I told him to forget it and went out and bought a new stove.The people at the store said to be sure the repairman is not only insured but knows how to fix the new stoves which are like computers. I learned my lesson and next time will call someone I can trust and who is more reputable.
Description of Work: Came to repair a stove (electric) that had an oven that would not heat up. At the time, the broiler worked and the stove top worked. Repaired a burned out wire but when he connected it back, it tripped a breaker and he said the motherboard burned out. Estimated repair at $335 with labor and part.

The evening of 12-14-11, I noticed a pool of water on the floor in front of the refrigerator. We could not find the source of the leak but we assumed it had something to do with the icemaker and the water line. The morning of 12-15, we called Able and Vickie said they could have someone there around Noon and they would call when they were on the way. At 11:30, Charlie called and said he was on his way and would be there in 20 minutes. He showed up, quickly diagnosed the problem as a failed inlet valve. He had one on his truck, quoted us a price and fixed it on the spot. This was as easy of a repair process I can recall. I highly recommend them for appliance repairs. We will use them again in the future.

Ice maker wasn't producing ice (in door kind). Refrigerator less than two years old. Had called a Sears technician before. He fixed it and it worked for a while then quit again. Found Able Appliance on line and read the reports on Angie's List (positive). Called them. A young technician came out and cleaned out the ice maker (which Sears had done previously). Said if it stopped working again it was the water valve and they would have to come out and fix that. So they did. Ice maker still didn't work. So they replaced the ice maker. Stopped working after a day or so. By this time I was four service calls in and they sent a more senior repair person out. He fixed a sensor. Worked for a while then overfilled and ice cycles formed in the refrigerator. This time they said it was a bad part (the water valve) so they replaced it. Same problem (overfilling), so the owner came out. Assessed the problem as a install on the water filter so he fixed that. Ice maker still didn't work so they replaced the ice maker (the overfill problem burnt it out). On the good side, they didn't charge for the follow-up calls. And it's now working. Bad side, took about eight visits which takes up time because they schedule in windows. Did move to evening appointments after a while. Also had to hear them complain about the situation which doesn't help when I just want it fixed. Not sure if the $9.95 service call fee and the wide range of things they service is a supportable business model. Or maybe I just had a really bad run of luck. Their saving grace is its hard to find reliable service techs.

Description of Work: KCP&L told me I needed to have someone inspect my furnace; the technician refused to come out to make sure the hookup for the energy optimizer thermostat was correct. Chris with Able came out & quickly diagnosed the furnace was working properly. He explained to me everything he was doing and showed the furnace was working properly by bypassing the thermostat. He also provided a few lessons about the humidifier on the furnace and the opening and closing of the vents in the ductwork in the basement. Chris was very knowledgeable and professional. I called and left them a message (after hours) to have them come out and take a look at our refrigerator. They called back quickly and we set up an appointment for the next morning. As soon as I made the appointment we had a conflict come up. I called them and they adjusted their time to accommodate our schedule. Once they came to our house they found the problem within minutes. It was a clogged drain. The tech that came out actually gave us the option to do it ourselves. We choose to go with him while he was there and it took only a matter of minutes to fix the issue. It was the first time using Able and our experience will bring us back to them again.

Our fridge/feezer stopped cooling. Power was working, but not cooling. Called several times on Sunday morning and did not get a return call until Sunday evening. Vickie said they had a medical emergency and apologized for the delay. She was very friendly and told me she would set up service for Monday morning between 9am and Noon. She offered to have the service tech call me 30 minutes before he showed up. Charlie called and gave me 45 minute notice....which worked out great. My wife met him at the house and said he was very professional and friendly. He had to replace the main control board and even took time to show her the brown "burn spot" on the board which caused it to fail. He had the part on his van and had it fixed in no time.My wife did not know I had booked this through Angie's List, but Charlie explained it to her and also included the 10% discount which he didn't have to mention. Very honest and ethical business. Everything is working GREAT!!

I got up on a Saturday morning and saw that everything in my refrigerator was thawing. I called Able and they told me they'd send someone out after noon. Luckily he came around 11 am. He pulled the refrigerator out and found something that wasn't working. He replaced it. The refrigerator is still working.

I have used this service before (06/10/2010) for washer repair and chose them again, including the technician--Rick. The scheduler went the extra mile to get the appointment based on my time and I always appreciate that. The technician called prior to coming to my house and gave an approximate time when he would be there. He arrived at that time and went to work. He explained exactly what he was doing and showed me the part that needed to be replaced and why. I appreciate the expertise of the technician and his ability to explain the work to a novice. Technician arrived to appointment later than indicated (called at two different times to say we were the next house, even though he was at two different locations for the two calls), but still arrived on the same day that we called for service, and performed the diagnostic promptly and professionally. The $168 estimate for this repair was over-priced compared to online estimates (which indicate this repair averages closer to $100), and following research, I was able to replace it myself for the $20 cost of the part with minimal difficulty. However, $9.95 is a very reasonable price to perform a diagnostic, and we would consider hiring them again for diagnosing appliance breakdowns.
Description of Work: Provided diagnostic on washing machine that wouldn't enter spin cycle following drain cycle. Identified the problem as a faulty lid (actuator) switch, and provided a $168 estimate to replace.

After seeing all of the reports and positive grades on Angie's List, I called them because my wife was convinced that our oven wasn't heating properly. In addition, we had an issue where smoke was coming from the base of the oven, so I wanted to have it checked out. I took at look at Able's web site and loved that it was family owned and operated and that they had been in business for 17 years. Additionally, I REALLY loved the $9.95 price to come out and tell me what the situation was. Fortunately for us, the oven was heating properly (sorry honey, no new oven!) and the smoking issue was non-existent during our test run. I met with Charlie, who is the nephew of the owner Vicky...Charlie couldn't have been nicer or more professional. We even talked about some of the work I do as a social media consultant with Facebook, LinkedIn, etc...and how we also do WordPress web site development...so there might be an opportunity for us to work together there too....I can tell you, I LOVE referring people that are awesome and I can't stand people or businesses that SUCK....My experience with Charlie and Able was great and I will definitely refer them (already posted a note about them on my Facebook page)....and use them in the future for other appliance related issues.

Very well -- I called them about 3 weeks ago when the problem first started. They diagnosed the problem and said to call them when I decided to make the repair. I called them this morning and they were able to come the same day. Mark was very friendly and helpful. Not only did he put in the new motor, but he did extra maintenance to my 17-year-old dryer and fixed something that he noticed was missing that I didn't even tell him about. It runs great now, sounds and works so much better than even before it started to go bad! Hope it will go another 17 years now.
Description of Work: My clothes dryer needed a new motor. It was making a terrible loud sound when you pushed the start button, and sometimes it would start drying and other times would not. I finally got tired of not knowing whether it was going to work or not.

A coil in the back was freezing and the fridge wouldn’t maintain the temperature. Able came out and looked it over and offered to unthaw the coil, but the issue may return. However, we should have held over until the proper part arrived. We were charged for the labor to unthaw it and within 24 hours, it was frozen over again. I called the guy a few times after words and they were very helpful. Sub Zero sent the part out for free as it was covered under the warranty and I ended up installing it myself. I felt the $69 to unthaw the coil for 24 hours was not worth it.

Able came out on the day my washer stopped working for $ 9.95 and told me what the issue was and provided a quote to fix it. Other appliance people were going to be a day or two before being able to come out. I didn't have ABLE fix it, but after the diagnosis from the technician, I was able to fix it myself. Very prompt, diagnosed the problem, and it didn't cost a lot of money. I'll use them again when necessary.

Fine, no problem. The service man was very informitive and did not do anything that would be costly that he felt would not be worth it.
Description of Work: Checked to see why central a/c was not cooling the house enough. Added some freeon but said they a/c unit was about the right size for the house but it was just too hot out (this was during a heat wave). He suggested we insulate the ducts and house to help the problem rather than change the a/c unit. I had a 2nd opinion later and the 2nd opinion confirmed the first.

As I was getting breakfast, I noticed water on the floor under the refrigerator. The unit was running but not cooling and all of the ice in the ice maker had melted. After calling several companies without much luck (wait was 2 - 6 days), Able sent a repairman out that day. He quickly diagnosed the problem (faulty circuit board), replaced the board and corrected the problem. I do appreciate they corrected the problem quickly but thought they were a bit pricey. However, it has been years since I have had refrigerator problems so this may be the going price. Thanks for getting us up and going quickly. Overall I was pleased with the response and would use them again.
