Justin did an outstanding job representing Able Appliance Repair. He was professional, curtious, and quickly gained my respect and confidence. I definitely would recommned Able Appliance Repair to all consumers.
Description of Work: Justin was the servicing Technician. Our Maytag Dryer was no longer drying clothes in a timely manner. Justin quickly identified the problem (thermostat) and replaced the faultiy part. He explained what caused the problem (clogged exhaust) and demonstrated an effective way to keep the exhaust clear.

They are very well known in town. They provide excellent service. They are friendly, punctual, and do a great job. It was expensive, but I think the machine is going to run another 10 years.

Overall, the repair experience went very well. I appreciate the punctuality and professionalism of repair person (Ron). He was very friendly and explained what needed to be done thoroughly.
Description of Work: The repair was to my 7-year-old Maytag gas dryer which had stopped heating up properly. The repair person, Ron, arrived on time, called before he came, diagnosed the problem quickly and had the part needed available on truck. He was very polite and professional, as was the person to whom I spoke on the phone to make original appointment. I would definitely call Able again for my appliances.

the tecnichian was promt in getting here and after examining the dishwasher and outlet he found the outlet burned and saved us from having a fire. in other words the dishwasher was ok but we needed an electrician instead.

On his way to the appointment to my home, informing me of the time of arrival, he asked me to tell him the problem. When I described the error code, he advised me where/how to look up the error code on the internet. When I was able to find the code, he said that that particular code was rare and that I should try to reset the digital readout on the refrigerator. He gave me details on how to do that and within a couple of minutes, the problem was solved. He said if the problem persisted, call again for another service call. He explained that the problem may have been caused by a power surge.
Description of Work: Refrigerator had an error message that I could not interpret. The repair man solved the problem over the phone on the way to the service call.

It didn't got particularly well because of what I feel is price-gouging on the part (~5 x online retail). The water valve was available online from Sears for about $33. I asked if they would install the part at their hourly labor rate of $108, if I provided it , and they refused. It took no more than 15 minutes for Charlie-who was prompt and polite- to pull the appliance away from the wall, install the new part, and move the appliance back to its original place. The original price I was quoted for the same part, installed, was $275. I called and talked to the service manager and was able to get the price lowered to $170.
Description of Work: Replaced water valve on refrigerator.

We can't use our customers parts because we could not give you warranty of any kind on your part. We can only back our part and give you warranty on our part that we install. We are an service company and have been in business for many years and we offer our customers the best deal that we can and try to keep them happy. The Service Manager did take care of you and that should show you that we go above what is needed to make our customers satisfied. It's unfortunate that we can't use the customers parts that they find online and give them the warranty, but it's not our parts, so we could not warranty it if it didn't fix the problem, that's why we use our own, if it doesn't work we take care of it and give you the warranty that comes with it. He wasn’t able to fix it as it was some kind of electrical short and so I had to buy a new one. He tried what he could to repair it but he couldn’t just do it. It was a good service because if it was possible he could have done it. I would recommend them to others. The technician was a nice guy, professional and he did what he could. He came right out.

I should have paid attention to the other bad reviews on this company.I called about a dishwasher repair at 9am on Saturday morning. The lady who answered was abrupt and took my name and adress and said someone would be out between 10 and noon. I was thrilled. The technician called at eleven to ask what the problem was and I told him. He said he was sure he knew what was wrong and that he was going to go get the part needed and be over to repair it. So, I waited. And waited.That was the last I heard from them.After a few hours I called their office and they did not pick up. So, I left a message nicely asking what was up - were they still coming out? Did he find the part?Nobody bothered to return my call. I also called the technician's cell phone, and he never picked up either.So, now I feel like an idiot since I waited all day on a Saturday for someone to do what they said they would. They obvioiusly have no concern about their customers.
Description of Work: Dishwasher wasn't cleaning load on top rack. Called for repair.

Justin and Charlie from Able Appliance Repair were awesome! They explained up front in non-tech terms what had happened and what needed to be done, called with updates on the status of the parts that were ordered, and quickly did the repairs. Would used them again!!
Description of Work: Our refrigerator was not cooling and the dryer was making a loud noise even though it was drying the clothes. Charlie replace the thermostat in the freezer and Justin replaced roller bearings and an idler pulley and shaft in the dryer.

They came out in December of 2011 to estimate the job. The guy took roughly 5 minutes and charged me $15 for coming out, since I wasn't ready to spend $340 to get the work done (I didn't realize it would be that much). Important note - the free estimate is only free if they end up doing work. I had them come out in January to do the work. It took him roughly 15-20 minutes to replace the parts and ended up costing $340 (they did discount the prior $15 from it after I asked, so $325 at the time). They mark-up the part prices quite a bit - I've seen the washer inlet valve for $15 online and I think they charged me $80+ for it. This last weekend, the washing machine broke again - the suspension, specifically (same part as before). I called Able to see if they warranty the parts / work, and they said they cover 30 days for labor and 90 days for the part. Coincidentally, it's been 96 days since the work was done, so I'm out of warranty. I won't be using Able again. They didn't seem to diagnose the entire problem correctly in the beginning, and then put in expensive parts that lasted just long enough to get past the warranty.

Dear Sir, unfortunately we can't give our customers more warranty than what the parts supplyer will give us. We do our best to take care of our customers and we do try to be as reasonable as we can. As for the service call, we offer free service call with an repair. I don't know of any company that can come out for free with the price of gas and the wear and tear on the vehicles, We charge $9,95 and certainly feel that is more than reasonable for our customers. When we opened the company, we agreed that we wanted to give something back to Kansas City area and thought an $9,95 was a good thing to do, for our customers. I'm sorry sir, that you feel that it should have been a free service call, and I wish that the parts house would give us more warranty that they do so that we could pass it on to our customers. Late Friday evening (4/20/12) I noticed my side by side refrigerator was not cold on the refrige side. I went to Angie's List for a repair company in my area and one that had Sat. appointments, read the reviews, and choose Able Appliance Repair. Called them at 8:00 Sat. morning, the lady that answered the was extremely pleasant, asked the problem, the make of my refrigerator, took my personal information and said the tech she was sending was Charley and he would be at my home between 10:00 / 12:00. Charley called a little after 10 and said he was on his way. He found the problem and had it fixed in less than an hour. Charley was on time, friendly, up front about what the problem could be and the cost, but most of all he was very neat/clean about the job (since I am OCD about clean that was a big plus with me). Needless to say my new appliance repair peeps is Able Appliance Repair. Yeah Able!!!
Description of Work: My refrigerator was not working properly Charley the tech from Able Appliance Repair said the problem could be one of three things. He pulled the panel off the back of the freezer and found the defrost heater was bad. Charley defrosted the back and replaced the old heater with a new dual heater.

The first time I called, they were able to get a technician out right away. Jeremy came the next day and was able to fix the washer. (However, he left a bucket of dirty water and a mees in my laundry room). However, the dryer was working fine at the time, so he suggested we do a complete cleaning of the vents, etc. and that if the PF code returned, it was probably the control board and to call. We cleaned out the vents, etc, and almost immediately the dryer began shutting off. I called, and it was going to be a couple of days before Jeremy could come back out. Since he had told me before that the control board would need to be replaced, I gave the person the model number of our dryer so it could be ordered, and Jeremy could have it when he came back out. This is where the service and response level began to break down. The day Jeremy was scheduled to come out, I did not hear from him until after 5 pm. I asked him if he had been able to order the control board, and he indicated that he had not been giving the model number. I gave him the model number, and he indicated that it would be the following Tuesday after 5 p.m. before he would get the part and be able to come out. On that Tuesday, he did not call until after 7:30 pm. He asked if I still wanted him to come out that evening. I asked to be the first customer the next morning. He indicated he would be out between 9 and 11. The next day, it was almost 10:30 before he called. Another customer, closer to Jeremy's house, had needed a repair, and he had gone to that one first. When he came out, he replaced the control board and found that the dryer had not been installed properly causing lint to accumulate all through the machine. He cleaned the dryer out, and replaced a second part. The dryer is now working great. My only reason for giving this call a B is that I feel the model number should have been given to Jeremy when I called with it and there was a lack of communication on the technicians part.
Description of Work: Fix washer which had quit draining. Also fix dryer that was shutting off and had PF error code.

I called them and described the problem of a noisy freezer fan. They requested the model & serial numbers and got the fan. He had the correct part with him when he arrived. They were at my house within 2 hours and had it repaired 20 minutes later. It now works perfectly. The repair person was courteous, pleasant and skilled at replacing the fan.

I called Able on Tuesday afternoon and got an appointment for 10am-12pm on Wednesday. Charlie called just before 10:30am to let me know he was on his way to my house. He looked over the dryer and after 15 minutes determined that the start switch was bad. He called to order the part and told me it would be in on Thursday, so we set up a time for 11-1pm. Charlie called me a few hours later and said that a different supplier had the part and offered to come back and install the switch on Wednesday. Charlie went above and beyond the normal call of duty to get our switch replaced the same day. He was polite and professional. I would use Able again.
Description of Work: Our dryer wouldn't start. Charlie came out and figured out within 15 minutes that we needed a new start switch. Charlie replaced the switch.

Our dishwasher had been acting up, and on Sunday started to leak like crazy. We called Sunday mid-day, and we had an appt for the following Monday afternoon. We were told Justin would be here between 12 and 4. He arrived around 1:45, and there was a phone call heads up when he was on his way. He asked appropriate questions, listened to our dishwasher story, and fixed the dishwasher in about 30 minutes. (fyi, we'd had another company look at the dishwasher several times as part of the home warranty that we got when buying our home - they were never able to fix it correctly, so I was impressed Justin did such a great job so fast).

I called at 1030 Friday morning to make an appointment, was told someone would call back before heading my way. At 11:40 Alan called and said he was done in Grandview and headed to our home and gave an eta. He called back moments later to apologize and say another call in Grandview just came in, and that they would be sending Charlie my way. Charlie called moments later, gave an eta of 2:30 then called back again at 2:43 to say he was on his way. Both technicians were polite and called when they said they would. Charlie had our dryer dismantled in less than 10min and gave me his appraisal. The motor was going out, causing the rumbling and shaking. I was unsure if I should replace a motor on a 9 plus year Dryer, so I was charged $9.95 and he put everything back together. He gave me an estimate on a new motor, at approximately $300.00. I am going to replace the Washer and Dryer in the near future with newer ones, but would certainly call Able Appliance again. Very prompt, professional, and friendly!

I felt that the woman who answered the phone was rude and dismissive. When I explained what we thought the problem was, I mentioned we had previously replaced a part we thought was the issue, but discovered it was not. She brusquely said they could not/would not service the dryer because they will not repair anything that the owner has already touched. She said there is only one service worker who would even consider doing repairs under those circumstances, and it would be a while before he would be available. The part that we believe needed repair/replacement was a different part from the one we had replaced. I tried calling a second time, in hopes of getting someone different, in case I had misunderstood, as this seemed like such an odd reason to refuse our business, and it really surprised me that a business that was getting good reviews would be so rude over the phone. We ended up not using their services.

I called Able to request a service call and they had availability the same day in the evening or the next day, which I scheduled. The "appointment" was for" after 3p and that the serviceman would call before. At 4:15p, Alan called to confirm address and said he was on his way, but would be close to 5p due to travel time. Alan arrived, assessed the problem, gave me an estimate which I approved and started the repair. He was courteous and kept the space clean during and after his service. He seemed very knowledgable and was informative with my options. This service call went extremely well. I will definitely call Able again if I need service on an appliance.
Description of Work: Repaired the freezer of my refrigerator that had iced up. Defrosted the freezer, then replaced the heater and thermostat.
